And we start with pre-competition practice.

And Jun takes his first step into the muddy paddy field to realise that an “Ah!” that mobility is over-rated here.

And he takes a nose dive into the stinky water right at the very first obstacle.

And takes more nose dives…

And almost sacrifices his masculinity reputation for possible Yahoo News headlines.

As the pride continues to take a beating…

That sunshine smile still makes its way through.

Though even he admits the uphill battle to climb.

However, it isn’t long before his competitiveness arises.

And it’s the day of the actual competition.

As Jun prepares for the preliminaries selection rounds (only top 6 will enter the finals), he realises he needs to do as good (if not better) than his practice timing.

HE CLOCKS 53s! NEARLY 2s OFF HIS PRACTICE RECORD!!!

We agree.  No arguing with PERFECTION right there!

Though his happiness is shortlived with the reigning champion clocking a whopping 48s timing! And Daisuke-san, 45s!!! (O_o)

Nevertheless, he’s in the finals, and he vows to give it his all, adopting an attack approach.

He’s got nothing to lose and all to win afterall.

OUTCOME: HE SHAVES 10 FREAKING SECONDS OFF HIS TIMING TO CLOCK 43.72s!!!!

Can you just see his joy~ (^_^) I’m beside myself with amazement really!

However, his stay at the top is brief as our returning champion rises to the challenge and beats Jun by just 0.3s. Awwww~

And even if he’s disappointed to have lost…

The outcome of the competition…

A very well-deserved second place! Omedetou~ (Daisuke-san got third place)

And Daisuke-san remarks it’s indeed a feat to be just 0.3s off the champion’s record (and remarkable considering he’s a complete newbie!!!)

Indeed, Jun the special guest deserves a well-earned round of applause for his hard work! *clap* *clap* *clap*

something that's not clear in the linked video is that the punch is a shoutout to degawa tetsuro and tani maria, who were in the audience then. they were sent by the variety show ItteQ! with the assignment of taking as many selfies as possible with stars at the cannes film festival

(for some reason, this segment involved them wearing karate gear)

so it was a nice gesture! ...that he did during a worldwide broadcast with NO chance of context.

2021.10.03 日テレ系秋のコラボSP

It's been a awhile since I saw ItteQ and it was even odder seeing Shige on it. It was an Autumn Special and he was a part of the team representing the new drama. The other actor did the festival segment with Miyagawa. That felt familiar. But the most fun part was where all the guests competed in teams of 2. One of them had to push the other tot he very edge of the giant ruler thing without falling. There were victims. Poor sensei, he already looked like he hasn't slept in days.
