Blog Post: Embracing the Abyss: My Journey into Anton LaVey's Satanism
Posted by Damien Harker | Date: 13 September, 2023
Greetings, fellow seekers of the shadows,
Recently, I embarked on a new journey into the realms of Satanism, specifically delving into the wisdom of Anton Szandor LaVey, the enigmatic founder of the Church of Satan. As a metalhead, horror enthusiast, and lover of all things dark and mysterious, it felt like a natural progression to explore this intriguing philosophy.
My initiation into the world of LaVeyan Satanism began with "The Satanic Bible," a collection of essays penned by the High Priest himself. What initially drew me in were not the sensationalized stereotypes that surround Satanism, but rather the intriguing blend of individualism, rational self-interest, and unconventional wisdom that LaVey presented.
Satanism: Beyond the Misconceptions
Before diving into the book, I had to confront the misconceptions and misconstrued notions often associated with Satanism. Contrary to popular belief, Satanism, as articulated by Anton LaVey, isn't about devil worship, black magic, or malevolent rituals. Instead, it's a philosophy that champions personal empowerment, critical thinking, and a rejection of societal norms that stifle individuality.
The Nine Satanic Statements
One of the key aspects that resonated with me in "The Satanic Bible" was the Nine Satanic Statements. These statements serve as foundational principles, challenging us to question dogma and embrace the idea that we are our own gods. It's about taking control of our destinies, acknowledging our desires, and unapologetically pursuing them.
The Satanic Rituals: A Unique Perspective
While exploring the rituals presented in the book, I found LaVey's approach to ritualistic magic to be refreshingly pragmatic. Rather than supernaturalism, his rituals are psychological tools designed to tap into the power of the mind and one's own will. This practical perspective aligns with my fascination for the mystical and the psychological, bridging the gap between the macabre and the cerebral.
Embracing the Darkness
In the world of Anton LaVey, Satan is not a literal deity but a symbol of individualism, rebellion, and the untamed aspects of human nature. It's a philosophy that encourages us to embrace our darkness and to acknowledge that we are creatures of both light and shadow. This, for me, is a profoundly liberating concept.
My journey into LaVeyan Satanism is just beginning, and I'm eager to delve deeper into its tenets, explore its symbolism, and engage with like-minded individuals who share my fascination with the dark and unconventional. I'm not here to convert anyone, but rather to share my own experiences and perspectives as I navigate this intriguing path.
So, fellow shadow-dwellers, stay tuned for more updates on my exploration of Satanism, the occult, and all things that dwell in the twilight realm. And remember, sometimes, the most profound revelations are found in the depths of darkness.
Hail Satan, and hail the pursuit of individuality and self-discovery!
Until next time,
Damien Harker 🤘🖤

Itheist (formerly Aetherium Mors) is a UK-based extreme metal band formed by multi-instrumentalist Dan Couch and vocalist / lyricist Kane Nelson, with roots tracing back to 2004.
#gallery-0-4 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-4 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Now with the recently completed self-titled full-length debut album ready to unleash, Itheist is ready to enter a new phase of existence and creativity. With songwriter Dan’s involvement in multiple musical projects over the years (including Black/Death Metal band Carcinoma and Black/Thrash band Holodomor among others) making a marked impression on his writing style, the new album brings together blackened melody with dissonance, creating a unique style of Extreme Metal.
Elements of classic bands such as Death, Carcass and Dissection collide with more experimental bands such as Akercocke, Ulcerate and Gorguts, but without compromising Itheist’s own identity.
The wind howls uncomfortably chilling to the bone and the ringing guitars does little to warm the soul. Instead the off-kilter screeches of strings is like the realisation that death comes on these winds. Slow and methodical, the black metal vocals offer no respite. The sound of demonic hate and horror. All of this experienced in the first few minutes of opener Outcast before it goes in for the kill with a burst of blackened death brutality.
The violent and furious attack is continued into the roaring Mighty Father of Rebellion. Here many will be able to draw parallels to the likes of Behemoth, at least their formative years.
The evilness of Itheist isn’t coy, it’s happy to slither right up and offer carnal delights if only you’ll give your soul over. Something that is far easier to do once the likes of Guardian of Baphomet erupts. The cold is gone to be replaced with flames.
Belial Unbound is one of the riffiest tracks of the album, Horned One drips with sour threat built on chanting vocals and Infernal Insurrection is out and out extreme metal, no nonsense heaviness.
After such a scathing set of tracks, mercy might be needed but won’t be given as Neter Amon continues to push the aggression forward. A contemptuous listen, the fiery fury is only lessened by some catchy guitar hooks.
Relief is near though as the album comes to a close with Mankind in Extremis and Suffering in Existence. The former delivering a wonderful cacophony of deafening riffs and the latter a moody, darkness covered return to the freezing cold.
Itheist – Itheist Full Track Listing:
1. Outcast 2. Mighty Father of Rebellion 3. Guardian of Baphomet 4. Belial Unbound 5. Horned One 6. Infernal Insurrection 7. Neter Amon 8. Mankind in Extremis 9. Suffering in Existence

I want to legally change my name... via /r/satanism
I want to legally change my name...
but I'm not 100% sure about it. I only want to change my first name. I have a few reasons for wanting to change it.
I don't really like my given first name.
I want the power of choice over my own identity.
The name I have right now is a common name, and I want an uncommon, fairly unique name.
Also, from a religious perspective, I see changing my name as a perfect expression of my beliefs. I'm a LaVeyan Satanist. Among the many beliefs associated with that is the assertion that a Satanist is an "Itheist"; "You are your own God." I can't think of a single greater expression of that other than choosing your own name.
There are downsides though. The amount of work that would go into updating all my legal documentation is daunting. Not to mention the disapproval of my parents (who don't even know I'm Satanic). Also what happens if the name I choose doesn't "fit"? If I change my name I want to do it once, not try out several different names, since that would just be a big legal headache.
So what do you guys think? Opinions, advice? Would you want to change your name, or have you already?

iTHEIST Is man one of God's blunders? Or is God one of man's blunders? —Friedrich Nietzsche Accepting the axiomatic premise that no gods exist as independent supernatural entities means that Satanists are de facto atheists. We know that the objective universe is indifferent to us. Since our philosophy is self-centered, each Satanist sees themselves as the most important person in their life. Each individual thus generates their own hierarchy of values and judges everything based on their own standards. Therefore, we Satanists appoint ourselves as the “Gods” in our subjective universes. That doesn’t mean we think we have the powers of a mythological deity, but it does mean that we revere the creative capacity in our species. So to distinguish ourselves from the atheists who simply reject God as non-existent, we call ourselves “I-theists,” with our own healthy ego as the center of our perspective. This is truly a blasphemous concept that flies in the face of just about every other religion, and it is why Satan serves us well as a symbol. He was described as the prideful one, refusing to bow to Jehovah. He is the one who questions authority, seeking liberty beyond the stultifying realm of Heaven. He is the figure championed by the likes of Mark Twain, Milton, and Byron as the independent critic who heroically stands on his own. From a 1986 interview with Walter Harrington of The Washington Post: LaVey says. Satan is a symbol, nothing more. “Satan signifies our love of the worldly and our rejection of the pallid, ineffectual image of Christ on the cross.” http://www.churchofsatan.com/what-the-devil.php

Title: Navigating the Abyss of Thought: "The Devil's Notebook" by Anton LaVey
Author: Damien Harker | 17 October, 2023
[DISCLAIMER: These are my opinions and by no means representative of CoS as a whole.]
As I journey deeper into the uncharted realms of Satanic philosophy and literature, I've recently stumbled upon a hidden gem, "The Devil's Notebook" by the enigmatic Anton LaVey. This concise collection of essays and notes is a whirlwind exploration of intriguing themes such as nonconformity, occult faddism, erotic politics, the Goodyguy Badge, demoralization, and the eerie concept of artificial friends.
Nonconformity: The Satanic Pulse
LaVey's relentless championing of nonconformity is the thunderous war cry echoing through the entire notebook. His insistence on rebellion against societal norms, the outright rejection of hollow conventions, and the unapologetic embrace of personal identity resonates deeply with me as I navigate my own path of self-discovery. It's the essence of Satanic philosophy itself, a fierce call to arms against the stifling grip of conformity.
Occult Faddism: A Thorn in the Occult's Side
LaVey's scorching critique of occult faddism lays bare the festering underbelly of the mystical world. In a realm often plagued by sensationalism and mystical trends, he mercilessly demands that seekers embark on a relentless quest for genuine knowledge. This is not a polite suggestion but a thundering mandate, an uncompromising cry for intellectual integrity.
Erotic Politics: Where Power and Sensuality Collide
"Erotic politics" is a term that ignites the fires of passion and rebellion. LaVey's exploration of the intertwining of sexuality and personal empowerment is a ferocious affirmation of the Satanic principle of embracing one's desires, without a trace of shame or hesitation. It's a facet of Satanic philosophy that I've long celebrated with unwavering ardor.
The Goodyguy Badge: An Emblem of Questioning Virtue
LaVey's relentless deconstruction of the "Goodyguy Badge" tears into the very fabric of excessive virtue and self-sacrifice that many wear like a shroud. This is not a gentle inquiry but a thundering indictment, a reminder of the value of self-interest and a stark warning about the perils of boundless altruism, themes I've fiercely grappled with in my personal Satanic journey.
Demoralization: The Perils of Excessive Technological Reliance
The notion of demoralization paints a nightmarish picture of the perils of excessive technological reliance. LaVey's words are a chilling reminder of the necessity to cling to genuine human connections in an increasingly digital world...
Artificial Friends: A Positive Perspective
On the flip side, the concept of artificial friends is an intriguing battlefield. In an age of digital connections, these artificial friends can serve as vital weapons of support, inspiration, and learning. They can expand our arsenals of knowledge and introduce us to new battle strategies and perspectives. The key is to maintain a relentless balance, ensuring that we fiercely guard and fortify our genuine human connections while also harnessing the aggressive power of artificial friendships.
In Conclusion: The Devil's Whirlwind of Thought
"The Devil's Notebook" is a relentless siege on conventional thought. Anton LaVey's insights are powerful battle cries, encouraging readers to wage war on complacency, challenge the status quo, and obliterate stagnation. This, to me, is the very essence of Satanic philosophy—an unyielding call to arms against the forces that seek to stifle our spirits. The book is a testament to the unrelenting legacy of LaVey, a fiery torchbearer of Satanic thought in our modern world.
The journey through these pages has rekindled my commitment to intellectual independence, personal empowerment, and an unwavering thirst for knowledge. "The Devil's Notebook" serves as a formidable weapon in my growing arsenal of Satanic literature, a testament to the profound wisdom that continues to emanate from the depths of darkness.
