Quax and Char now have the Itemfinder Mark too. Just Luna left. I did try but it’s being just as temperamental with the Itemfinder Mark as it is with the Partner Mark plus my Switch’s battery is low. I can’t actually remember how many of my Violet aces have it I just know Cherry has it

it’s been three months.

things have… calmed down, for a lack of better words. with the help of my friends/community/therapist, i feel like i have a better handle on the legal/business processes and therefore have actually been able to grieve and process things.

(it probably helps that i took a weekend trip to santa barbara so hozier could reset my soul and that i quit my shitty job, too. i loved working in a community college, but unfortunately i was only a contracted worker, so my HR was spectacularly shitty and fucked me over wrt: my FMLA, etc.)

i dream of my parents, sometimes! the dreams are often mundane or silly, but never sad.

life keeps on keeping on. and mostly so do i. and that’s fine.

both my parents died unexpectedly and fairly traumatically at the beginning of august and i’ve been trying to juggle taking care of my apartment and my job and my cat and my car and their house and their cats and their dog and their small business.

and no matter what i do it never feels like it’s quite enough and there’s always more stuff popping up for me to address that it’s been a month and i haven’t even had time to grieve yet, really.

and i fucking hate it.

i hate the vultures and the bureaucracy and capitalism and all the weird expectations that society is placing on me to simultaneously Be Appropriately Sad but also Still Have My Shit Together.

SEPTEMBER 16TH

In Pokémon Violet, I finally made my way to the next signpost. And even though it took a day to get there, Kieran still showed up last.

More lore was shed on the legends of this country before Kieran gushed about how cool Ogrepon was.

Whatever Ogrepon is, I feel like I can really relate to it.

I thought we'd go to the last signpost. But I agreed to go with Kieran to check out Ogrepon's den. A task that proved difficult after I found out I had to climb a mountain.

Thankfully, it only took me a few hours to get there. Kieran suggested a battle would be just the thing to make Ogrepon appear. So, I was forced into a match against him.

To be fair, it wasn't THAT big a deal. He'd be even more shocked if I made Pikachu use Volt Tackle instead.

Even after all that, Ogrepon was nowhere to be found. But I did like this one comment from Kieran:

I wonder if people can use these new Pokémon in tournaments...

I thought we would've backtracked to the last signpost, but Kieran suddenly noticed that time existed and decided to save it for the day after the festival.

While on my way to his house, I went back to finding an Itemfinder Mark for Braixen.

Couldn't they have bothered to give this item any other name than THAT?

SEPTEMBER 17TH

I have a good design for the Dreams page on my website. I just have to draw it on paper and digitize it. But before I can get to that, I should finish those other art pieces.

My time with Pokémon Violet was a little short. Probably due to me finishing some work for school. While traveling back to Moussi Town, I met this man in a strange mask.

Apparently, he's part of a clan of Trainers. He was a lot tougher than I thought he'd be. It isn't an exaggeration when I say that he gave me more of a challenge than any of the Gym Leaders in Paldea.

I guess I should find the other Ogre Clan members to get a cool item.

After the battle, I set up the picnic site so me and my Pokémon could eat a sandwich. While at it, I set up the new chairs I received a few days ago. Let's just say I was less than impressed with the design of the Monstrous Chairs.

So I set up some Academy Chairs instead.

Gimmighoul is the most doesn’t-look-like-a-Pokemon of any Pokemon I’ve seen in a long while.  As soon as I knew it was treasure-themed I immediately recognized the classic Itemfinder in its antennae, but otherwise it looks completely out of place.  I have to wonder if that’s the joke, because it’s chest form is a classic RPG mimic.  But...items come in Pokeballs in these games, there’s never been an actual treasure chest in Pokemon.  So it’s really pointless and conspicuous and fails in the basic concept of a mimic.  So maybe the design is supposed to feel like it wandered in from some other game?

I do have to give a lot of credit to whoever decided on its English name, though.  “Gimmighoul’ is such a smooth line of pure nonsense.  If you’re watching someone play the game and spot one of these in the overworld, you end up shouting “Gimmighoul!” at whoever’s playing.  Because they’re hidden and you need to find a lot to get an evolved one.  So you want to help your friend find them, of course.  But then you’re just shouting GIMMIGHOUL at the TV a bunch and you look like you’ve forgotten how words work.  Gimmighoul, gimmighoul, it’s over there behind the rock, gimmighoul.

Apple got its first mark - the Itemfinder Mark!

And in the span of one pickle sandwich, we went from all three Proto Beasts needing the Gourmand Mark to only Apple needing it - Blueberry and Lemon must have enjoyed that sandwich. Blueberry’s Mark collection is now complete as well. That was all I was waiting for for it

they fixed the itemfinder mark (you don't need the dlc for it or anything) and so i spent my morning getting it on my 10 ribbon masters that are able to be in SV. riveting gameplay

[Pokemon Reborn] Replay Thoughts

I love this game so, so much. (Spoilers for Pokemon Reborn below so be warned!!)

I first started it back when I was in high school, and now, I've probably replayed it, like, 5 or 6 times by now? It's not a short game haha, but I love the story-based plot + the Pokemon gameplay formula itself is just so hard to beat. I've always wished the main series were more difficult and had a better story and characters, so this game is honestly perfect. <3

Plus, my shitty computers through the years have been able to run it perfectly. xD

Reborn recently released E19. I used an old save file which had finished E18 to play through the new content first a couple months ago. I had missed a couple of Anna points here and there, so I got the Lin ending. Which, I enjoyed a lot! Idk how the Anna ending stacks up since I haven't played through it in comparison. Anna is one of my least favorite characters... though I still like them all.

I started a new playthrough a couple of days ago out of boredom + to see what changes E19 brought.

Some thoughts so far in no particular order (just completed the Beryl Bridge scene):

A lot the main cast appears earlier in smaller one-off scenes in the game, so that's nice to see. I wonder what someone going into the game blind would think -- most of the time they say something cryptic and/or depressing and leave (except for Taka who is the best. And maybe some other characters I'm forgetting lol). I think it's nice to have more points of comparison with them at the start of the game to the end, though.

I liked the additional Corey scenes in particular. It really shows how he helps the community, as how torn he must've felt -- seeing the destruction Meteor causes, trying to help out where he can, and yet still loathing himself for continuing to work for the team. The extra dialogue between Corey and Lin, and Corey and Heather, as well as in Beryl Bridge scene also help to show how trapped he felt (and was), and why he chose to jump.

So far I'm not really sure what to think of Ace -- I think they have an interesting design, but I don't know a lot about them yet other that they like wordplay, and they don't like infighting. xD

Fern is significantly less of an asshole. I remember his dialogue in the old Beryl Bridge scene was way worse. It's still pretty bad, especially when "wow, what a moron" is what you hear right after Corey's heartbreaking monologue, but he at least acknowledges that he must seem rather callous, and from his point of view, yeah, I guess Corey was just "the enemy." His other scenes are also toned down a bit (granted, I didn't fall through the Nuzleaf pit so idk about that) but in the jungle, he at least tried to be reassuring lol.

Zel ordering Lin around like that... at this point in the story, is Lin still lower ranked?

Julia's fight was toned down a bit too. At least, there were fewer exploding Voltorbs than I remember. xD

Heather's characterization is also much better: in my first playthroughs I just remember her as "bratty and we spend half the game saving her" but here, she comes across as friendly, well-intentioned, stubborn, and very childish (which she is a child, so that's fine haha).

Corey's battle is also a lot easier than I remember.

I really, really like the new additions to the game with the Remote PC, early Itemfinder, and Magnetic Lure.

The updated areas of the game (Obsidia Slums, Rhinoceriousexpyaladocious Jungle, Obsidia Park, and some others I'm probably forgetting) all look great.

Victoria's dialogue in the slums in the little different (I think?) IIRC in the original she fights you because the slums are dangerous and she wants you to prove that you can make it through. Here it's more about training, though it might also be because she just wants to take her mind off things.

I got normal/flying from the type quiz which is kind of boring, but I'll take it. xD I like flying types anyways. I wonder if this quiz'll affect anything in the future.

The Underroot + Rhinendocrinesystem Jungle are also way more fun to explore than I last remember. I forget if we were forced into falling down the Nuzleaf trap to progress the story or not in the original.

Amaria's monologue to Corey is a lot more heartbreaking when I remember what she's going through, and how she probably tells herself the same thing every day...
