They have perfected essential elements of pizza, such as dough, tomato sauce, cheese, and many toppings. Different regions in Italy have created their toppings that they can enjoy around the globe thanks to globalization.
While this is certainly not an exhaustive list of traditional Italian pizza toppings, these are just a few of our favorites:
Pizza Margherita
Everyone loves Margherita pizza. It is a Naples-based invention with a fascinating history, inspired by Queen Margherita's visit.
Margherita's iconic pizza is famous for its red tomato sauce and white mozzarella. These ingredients combine to create a delicious pizza that has stood the test.
Pizza Marinara
Similar to the Margherita pie, pizza marinara was also created in Naples. This simple pizza is made with marinara sauce, oregano, and garlic. This pizza is very similar to the Margherita but without cheese or basil. According to legend, poor sailors popularized marinara pizza in the 1800s and 1900s. It could also be made onboard ships since the ingredients were well preserved.
Pizza Pugliese
Pizza Pugliese originates in Apulia, Italy, typically topped with tomato sauce, onion, and mozzarella. There are many versions of pizza Pugliese, including capers, olives, and oregano, and some recipes call for different cheeses, such as mozzarella, pecorino, and provolone. Others suggest that the tomato sauce not be used at all.
You can mix and match these ingredients to create your perfect pizzeria Pugliese.
Pizza Melanzane
Pizza melanzane is a vegetarian recipe that features grilled eggplant. It's the Italian name for eggplant and is considered one of the best pizzas. Parmesan is often added to pizza melanzane with vegetables such as capsicum or potato, also essential. The way that parmesan interacts and eggplant work together are magical.
Pizza is the ultimate food no one could resist. Even without visiting Italy, you can try Italian pizza in Brunswick. If you are also craving authentic Italian food, you can see restaurants near you that serve dishes that make you feel like Italy.
Cirelli & Co offers a variety of authentic Italian cuisine that you will love and enjoy.

Sept 11, 2022: Sienna to Lusignano: 19.7 km, CUS ~1,000 ft
Meeting People
For dinner last night, just a very small (primi size) bowl of pasta with a 1/2 litre of house red. Kim had the gnocchi sorentina and I indulged myself with the tagliolini with fresh truffles. We actually don’t seem to eat much lunch or dinner on days when we don’t walk the trail. We still pile on the fuel at the hotel breakfast buffet, but if we don’t burn it off, we don’t seem as hungry later in the day.
As we ate, the strong smell of grilled steak seemed to drift up the street. After dinner, we walked a block downhill only to find another Contrada party in the piazza; this time it was the Aquila (Eagles). Everyone was wearing their Contrada scarf, and drinking and partying while two huge charcoal grills cooked up thick slabs of beef. Sadly, once again, we were not invited to join the festivities.
Out from the Campo at 8 this morning after we each ate a breakfast for two. It was actually a pretty reasonable walking day. While there was a respectable distance and climb (see above) the temperature was mid 20s and the grade was almost always less 5%. In the early morning, we were passed by a very serious looking cycling race. Perhaps 50 riders were being shepherded by at least 5 motorcycles, a dozen support cars, an ambulance and a fire truck. I missed the main pack at the front but got a picture of the smaller second group.
Halfway through the morning there was a lovely bar for cappuccino (and Fanta). We had quite a long chat with two wonderful young Italian women (Beatrice and Veronica) who were doing a one week walk out of Siena. The conversation was helped by their very good broken English and hindered by our very bad broken Italian. Among others things, we learned that Veronica (on the right) is a structural engineer who is going back to school after 10 years to become a teacher. Apparently, while engineering pays better, it is a hard, boring and much less rewarding job than teaching (yes Jason and Julie hard and boring😂). At the same bar, we ran into a nice group of seven hikers from New Brunswick, who seemed close to our age but were carrying full packs. Had a nice chat with them as well, mostly about walking and the trail. This route seems to be a nice compromise between the Via San Francisco (saw 35 walkers in a month) and the Camino Portuguese (a moving continuous herd for the last 100 km). This makes it possible to meet people and engage with them while still maintaining some semblance of contemplative peace and solitude.
We rolled into our hotel in Lucignano d’Arbia about 2 pm hotly pursued by a surprised older Aussie couple from Brisbane who had already passed us once, 5 km back. We had inadvertently found a shorter alternative route through the little town of Montroni d’Arbia, enticed by a billboard showing a beautiful park with a picturesque old mill and millpond. Sadly, when we arrived, the millpond was a dry mud bog from either the drought (very evident throughout our walk) or an inactive renovation project. Rather than sit there and munch on trail mix and granola bars, we carried on to a Carrefour grocery where we were presented with a choice of 8 different fresh pizzas. You chose how much they sliced off the long narrow pizzas and then paid by the 100 gm. To this we added the obligatory cold beer.
In addition to our hotel, the tiny (250 m across) hamlet of Lucignano, had a castle, an 12th century church of St John the Baptist and a very cuddly cat that followed us on our local tour.

Hi!! What are some of your favorite foods?
The list is pretty unremarkable but reflects my Italian-American heritage and includes cheeses, cured meats, pastas, good pizza, and basically anything soaked in olive oil and/or garlic. Dishes I’ve loved is perhaps a more interesting account:Sesame Catfish served with sticky rice at this phenomenal little restaurant called Cargo in Brunswick, GA that unfortunately closedWild Caught Georgia Shrimp grilled, anywhereBolognese at Cafe Troia in Towson, MDCreamy Pesto Tortellini with pine nuts at Joe’s American in Boston and Mozzaluna to start (recently went back, and it’s not exactly the same as it used to be 😔) Ravioli at Joe Tecce’s in Boston’s North End back in the day (sadly, closed, but I also love La Famiglia which is still open I think under new ownership) Spaghetti Carbonara made by a foodie friend, MattRoasted garlic to spread on toasted baguette at a now closed restaurant in my hometownMy favorite dish that I make is chicken tettrazini, with chicken enchiladas a close second. We eat a lot of chicken.

5 Wood Fired Pizza Restaurants in Melbourne
If you’re looking for wood-fired pizza in Melbourne, there are a few good options. The Alle Melenzane pizza, made with eggplant, parmesan, garlic, and tomato, features an excellent mix of vegetables. You can also order an Alle Zucca pizza that features roasted pumpkin, pine nuts, basil, and garlic. And if you’re looking for a vegetarian option, the Vegetarian Pie is perfect for you.
Pietro’s
Pietro’s is a casual family-owned joint that serves specialty pizzas and pasta. The menu also includes a daily happy hour. The pizza is made with wood-fired technology, which gives it a crispy exterior and a soft, chewy interior. It also has a friendly and attentive staff.
The Code is located in a beautiful Art Deco building in Collingwood. It is the sleeping giant of Melbourne’s pizza scene, headed by the eponymous Alessio Albano, a former head chef at DOC Carlton. The Italian-born chef handpicks fresh market produce. His pizzas are simple perfection.
Il Caminetto
One of the first wood fired pizza restaurants in Melbourne, Il Caminetto boasts a stone-topped bar and an extensive menu of pies and other Italian dishes. The menu is designed to appeal to a diverse crowd, from meat eaters to vegetarians. There are gluten-free and vegan options. Il Caminetto also has a children’s menu and highchairs available for families.
Il Caminetto’s ambiance is warm and inviting. The restaurant has an imported Italian terrazzo-tiled bar and woodfire oven, as well as pendant and strip lighting in the dining room. The decor is light and calming, with neutral tones and curved archways.
Leonardo’s
Leonardo’s wood fired pizza restaurants in Australia are a great choice if you’re in the area. They offer delicious wood-fired pizza made with fresh, local ingredients. With an open kitchen and wood-fired oven, this restaurant features a menu full of innovative combinations. For example, you can order a pizza with pulled pork, a side of basil, garlic, and sage, or go for an all-vegan pizza.
Leonardo’s’ three main areas are the bar, booth dining area, and dining room. The bar is located at the entrance, while the booths are behind it. The dining room is the perfect place to watch the chefs make their delicious pizzas. The restaurant features a custom-built wood and gas-fired oven that ensures even heat and flavour.
Innocent Bystander
If you’re a pizza lover, Innocent Bystander in Healesville has something for everyone on its menu. The menu is centered around artisan wood-fired pizzas. They serve up classic Margherita and more hearty creations such as the spicy pork and red pepper. They also offer share boards, seasonal ingredients, and desserts.
Innocent Bystander started as a cellar door next to Giant Steps, which is now their own building. Both brands were started by Phil Sexton, who wanted to create an environment that was less pretentious and more approachable. The interior is reminiscent of a brewery, with high ceilings and polished concrete floors. Innocent Bystander’s name is a tribute to Sexton and his love for wine, and it represents the guy next door who loves a good glass of wine.
Bontempo
If you’re looking for a wood fired pizza restaurant in Melbourne, you’ve come to the right place. Bontempo is a new restaurant that’s reinvigorating Brunswick Street. The spacious venue has long tables and exposed brickwork. The menu features a wide variety of Italian and local wines. It also offers cocktails from The Everleigh Bottling Co.
Bontempo’s pizza dough is thin and airy — a true testament to the Italian tradition of pizza-making. Whether you’re craving a vegetarian pizza or a meat-free one, there’s sure to be a delicious choice for you at this fitzroy eatery. There’s also an extensive menu of pastas, homemade gnocchi, and fresh seafood. You can also find gluten-free and vegan options. The drinks are impressive, too. The only drawback is that the restaurant isn’t part of the OpenTable reservation network.
48h Pizza e Gnocchi
Located in South Yarra, 48h Pizza e Gnocchi is a wood fired pizza restaurant in Melbourne that is a favourite with locals and visitors alike. The restaurant has been around since 1988 and has an online booking system, so you can book a table in advance. You can also read user reviews of this Melbourne Italian restaurant.
This Italian restaurant has a wide selection of authentic Italian dishes, as well as a warm, inviting atmosphere. It is also known for its quality ingredients and the fact that the dough has to rise for 48 hours before it is cooked. The restaurant is ideal for Italian tourists or people who want to sample authentic Italian food.

Italy is known for its mouth-watering cuisine. Italian food has been a strong edge of their culture. From their savoury pizza and pasta dishes, world-class cheeses, and incredible wine, and sweet desserts, everyone could say that they have a lot to offer. Apart from pizza and pasta, they also have perfect baked goods that you must try to pair with your coffee.
Here are the four famous Italian cakes and pastries that you must try for a perfect coffee session with friends and family.
Tiramisu
One of the most famous Italian pastries to try is tiramisu. It is a coffee-flavoured cake with pudding and pastry. It is a layer of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and mascarpone cheese that is mood-boosting. The serving may be through an individual glass or cut like a cake - you can enjoy this with a spoon.
Biscotti
Biscotti is the most famous cookie in Italy. It is crunchy and has a delicate taste that can adapt to hold cranberries, mulberries, and more. Traditionally, there has no oil or butter in making biscotti. The dough is shaped into a log-like, baked, and sliced diagonally with a serrated knife. The cookies need one final time to bake to dry them out to get that crunchiness.

CHARACTER INTERVIEW
Repost. Don’t reblog.
NAME: George Augustus Frederick of the House of Hanover, Prince of Wales, Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Rothesay, Earl of Chester, Baron Renfrew, etc
NICKNAME(S): Prinny
AGE: born in 1762, he is played on this blog as in his forties, and is not yet Prince Regent (although that may soon change)
SPECIES: All too human!
personal.
MORALITY: lawful / neutral / chaotic / good / neutral / evil / true
RELIGIOUS BELIEF: George was raised very strictly in the Protestant faith with the expectation that he will one day become the Supreme Governor of the Church of England. Despite (or perhaps because of) this, he is an indifferent church-goer and detests most sermons, though he enjoys drinking with bishops. His current excuse for not attending the nearby Church of St. Nicolas in Brighton is that it is at the top of a very steep hill. He is rather distressed that the faithful of Brighton are planning to build a new chapel at the bottom of the hill especially for his convenience.
SINS: greed / gluttony / sloth / lust / pride / envy / wrath (he often persuades other people to share in his vices, insisting friends overeat or drink too much, and has a passion for encouraging adulterous affairs)
VIRTUES: chastity / charity / diligence / humility / kindness / patience / justice (he has few virtues, but his kind heart redeems many of his vices)
PRIMARY GOALS IN LIFE: A lover of beauty in all things, he wishes to gratify his own exquisite taste and share it with the world. The seduction of beautiful women, wearing of beautiful clothes, the purchase of beautiful objects, the development of beautiful and original architecture, and to serve his country by expanding English style. Most of all, he yearns to be loved and admired which has made him easy prey for those who chose to flatter him. It pains him that he is not more popular with his father’s subjects.
LANGUAGES KNOWN: English, French, German, Latin, and Greek (with a little Spanish and Italian).
SECRETS: His secret marriage to Maria-Anne Fitzherbert renders his marriage to Princess Caroline of Brunswick bigamous (in the eyes of God if not English law). He wears high cravats partly to obscure his double-chin and partly to hide the scrofula scars on his neck. Often he will come to believe any lie he might tell and thus his powers of self-deception often succeed in fooling others. He loves being ill because it is an excuse to stay in bed and be fussed over, and so makes much of every cough and sniffle. His growing corpulence is a great blow to his vanity although he pretends not mind it. He devours every caricature and article written about him, even though they depress and frustrate him, and then pretends to be above reading “such tripe”. He prefers to break up with women by letter or give no notice at all, not because it is more convenient, but because he knows he will cry and relent if he were to attempt such a thing in person. Although he is a spectacular spendthrift, he hates to spend physical money and often hides coins and notes in desk drawers and the pockets of his coats. He collects locks of women’s pubic hair, has kept every romantic souvenir ever presented to him, and likes to lie in bed and go through them when he is feeling particularly lonely or depressed.
SAVVIES: Although he has not an ounce of common sense, his sensibilities are extremely acute. He is highly intuitive (when not in a nervous state), thinks outside the box, and usually knows what to say in order to get what he wants.
BUILD: scrawny / bony / slender / fit / athletic / curvy / herculean / pudgy / average — to use his words: “rather too great a penchant to grow fat”.
HEIGHT: a little over six feet tall.
WEIGHT: This fluctuates quite a lot, but is currently somewhere between 16 and 18 stone.
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: The aforementioned scars on his neck as well as the scars on his backside from being whipped as a boy. It annoys him that the scar he gained from wounding himself to prove his love for Maria Fitzherbert has mostly faded away and it takes him a little while to discern it from his stretchmarks.
ABILITIES/POWERS: He is extremely well-mannered, clever, and articulate (even while drunk), a fine judge of art, plays the piano, the cello, and the flute, sings well, knows how to talk and how to listen, and can make himself agreeable to just about anyone should he set his mind to it. He is no snob and can be very kind-hearted. He supports many charities, is against slavery (although he cannot bring himself to quit sugar), patronises a society against animal cruelty, hates executions, gave up watching boxing when he saw a man die in the ring, and is exceedingly generous (albeit usually with other people’s money). He is charming, elegant, very witty, a good rider, can drive any vehicle on wheels, and does devastatingly accurate impressions of all his acquaintances.
RESTRICTIONS: He extremely emotional, perpetually in a dazzle, can’t shoot for beans, has no real idea of how much anything should cost, and often requires the support of his lovers and friends (who may not have his best interests at heart). He cries often, lies often, overeats, is incapable of fidelity, catastrophises situations, and can behave with astonishing immaturity. He is an alcoholic, increasingly addicted to opium, perpetually in debt, and prefers to run away from his problems. He is terrified of ridicule and has an exceedingly thin skin, although he does his very best to hide it. He chooses people over principles and often does not understand why a friend will suddenly become an enemy because of something he has done. He can be made to feel helpless very easily and often indulges in grand talk to hide his insecurities. He wants to do the right thing, but is too fond of escapism, so people dismiss him a stupid or silly.
favourites.
FOOD: His favourite foods are legion but particular mention goes to chicken, truffles, vol-au-vents, ice cream, marzipan, beefsteak, lobster, goose pie, puff pastry, turtle, oysters, roast capon, stuffed pike, syllabub, cheese, strawberries, peaches, pineapple, trifle, jellies, and custard pudding.
DRINK: Hot chocolate, cherry brandy, sherry, gin, whisky, port, hock, Madeira, champagne punch, and hot ale with toast.
PIZZA TOPPING: Pineapple ;)
COLOUR: He loves all colours, but his favourites are blue, pink, green, and gold. He is a magpie, attracted to anything that glitters, although he understands what suits his large figure and lately has chosen darker, more somber styles under the influence of Mr Brummell. His choices in interior design, however, grow brighter and more eclectic by the day.
MUSIC GENRE: He loves all sorts of music, employs a German band, delights in opera — particularly Rossini — enjoys cello pieces, will sing old catches and glees with anyone who cares to join in, taps his foot to keep time, invites soloists to perform for him, and will even dance a hornpipe or a fling if he’s in the mood (although lately he has begun to refrain due to his weight).
BOOK GENRE: He mostly enjoys light reading: poetry, romances, and comedies — although this is not a rule. He adores Jane Austen’s sharp wit and Walter Scott’s lavish narratives. He will inevitably end up putting himself inside the novel and agonising over the characters’ feelings as though they were his own. When he is alone, or as alone as a prince can ever be, he reads aloud to himself and “does the voices”.
MOVIE PLAY GENRE: The same. He has a particular affection for Shakespeare’s comedies and Sheridan’s farces. He will watch tragedies, if they have actors he admires, or has been told he ought to go, but they make him cry.
SEASON: Spring. He loves to see the world renew itself.
CURSE WORD: Damme, damn’d, God damn, and all varieties thereof.
SCENT(S): Almond cream, lavender water, rose water, elder flower water, jasmine pomatum and orange pomatum, eau de cologne, eau romaine, Arquebusade, essence of bergamot, vanilla, eau de miel d’Angleterre, milk of roses, huile antique, oil of jasmine, brandy, ripe fruit, civet, warm butter, roast meat, and the sea air.
fun stuff.
BOTTOM OR TOP: It varies between lovers and circumstances. He desires to be admired and treated with deference but longs for the security of a guiding hand. Without someone he can trust by his side, he will often go into an emotional tailspin. So, physically, it can go either way but emotionally he prefers a stronger partner.
SINGS IN THE SHOWER BATH: Loudly and frequently.
LIKES BAD PUNS: Don’t get him started!

More Is More, On The Floor!
More Is More, On The Floor!
Interiors
Lauren Li
This home in Melbourne utilises distinctive timber blocks on the floor, for a tile-like effect. Architecture – Bayley Ward, interiors and styling – Larritt-Evans, Photo – Eve Wilson.
Lately I have noticed a revival of patterned floors in interiors, and I am here for it! Over the past ten years in Australia, we’ve been drawn to quite plain blonde timber, or dark timber floors that lean towards a Scandinavian aesthetic. But more recently, we seem to be moving away from minimalist spaces and into more expressive and individual designs. And that includes the floor!
Don’t get me wrong, perfectly smooth wood or concrete floors will never go out of style… but it’s also well worth exploring different flooring materials, to bring more variety into the home, and inject real personality into any space.
We’re now open to something more textured and characterful on the floor. Using a patterned floor can instantly conjure an atmosphere; the rustic handmade terracotta tiles of a charming country homestead, to the romance of an Italian loggia with a well-worn checkerboard marble tile. A flooring selection alone can evoke any feeling that you want to in a space.
Of course, patterned floors are anything but new. From the mosaics of ancient Mesopotamia to the oak Parquet de Versailles; we’ve long held traditions of embellishing the floor beneath us. But, we must ensure we select a floor that is not just #trending in this moment – flooring is a permanent element in an interior, and not something that is quick to swap out.
Flooring can have a huge impact the way a space looks and feels, but it also has an important function. It needs to be durable, and suit the usage of the room and the lifestyle of the occupants, so material selection is key.
But don’t be dissuaded! If you’re looking to create more than just a beautiful space, but create an atmosphere too – then injecting some character into the floor is a guaranteed way to do it!

Colour Blocking
Colour blocking your flooring allows you to delineate zones within a room, without partitions or barriers. Varying the flooring in this way creates a feature in the space, but it can also be very functional, allowing hard wearing materials such as a tiles to be used where needed (entryway or kitchen), giving way to softer flooring in less high traffic areas.
In Vokes and Peters Subiaco house, and also their Byron Bay house (both pictured above), the delineation of the flooring creates interest, and marks out zones in these richly detailed interiors. Meanwhile in the stunning Melbourne home pictured above, interior designer Claire Larritt Evans has used timber endgrain flooring under the dining area, to soften an otherwise concrete floor, and add warmth to the dining area.

Is there a more classic floor than the black and white check? This timeless pattern is contantly re-energised in this kitchen by F3 Studio. Used against concrete, timber and black stone, it delivers the perfect combination of ‘timeless’ and ‘now’. Photo – Damien Kook.
Pattern
Using a pattern on the floor gives a space movement, creates excitement and interest and never fails to result in an amazing space! There are patterns out there for everyone; from conservative checkerboard, or a subtle change in texture on a tile; to a custom designed cement tile and just about everything in between.
A floor tile with a pattern really can transform a space from ‘nice’ to ‘WOW’, and make any space come alive. The patterned floor is the main event, taking the pressure off the furnishings to create an atmosphere.

For a more accessible option than custom terrazzo flooring, consider the variety of polished concrete floors now available. Terrazzo
To say that terrazzo has had a comeback is the interior design understatement of the decade. Whilst we may have grown up seeing terrazzo floors in our favourite pizza place on Lygon Street, in recent years we’ve seen it everywhere, from handcrafted ceramics to bespoke kitchen bench tops. This composite material made of marble, quartz, granite and glass chips is used in furniture, décor objects and of course, floors.
There is a long history of terrazzo that can be traced back to the ancient mosaics of Egypt, and later Italy, where it gained popularity in Venice around 1500-1600. Unbelievably, it was originally a low-cost flooring material, consisting of clay and discarded marble chips.
Today, Terrazzo flooring is an artisanal finish usually consisting of a concrete or epoxy-resin base, and suspended shards of stone, glass, mosaic tiles and other decorative details.
Custom terrazzo requires a specialized tradesperson and is a highly bespoke floor treatment – however there are many ways to get a similar look. If custom terrazzo is out of reach, consider a polished concrete floor, which can be tinted in almost any colour, and embellished to resemble terrazzo. Terrazzo tiles are another great option – try Signorino or Fibonaci in Melbourne for a great range of terrazzo tiles.

Texture
Character isn’t just about adding colour and pattern – texture lends so much to a space, and especially when it’s underfoot.
We’re seeing a lot of brick flooring, terracotta tiles and earthy, antique-style tiled floors in Australian interiors right now. Some great examples include Emma Lane’s spectacular home in the Byron Bay hinterland, and Georgia Ezra’s stunning Melbourne home, featuring the designers own signature tile range.
Another fabulous floor treatment is an internal ‘crazy paving’ look, utilising stone or slate pavers inside the home. This treatment has become a hallmark of Melbourne interior design studio Studio Esteta, and is executed perfectly in their Portsea beach house project, and also, Via Porta deli and cafe.
When it comes to bringing texture into the home in this way, the main thing to remember it to embrace irregularities and imperfections. We want to see and feel real materials in the home, and it doesn’t matter if they are not perfect.
