Time for a track I'm very exited about!!! This is a remaster of the Retrorock version of Eiki's theme I made a little while ago. That version was only a test, as Beepbox couldn't handle the full length of this song, but Ultrabox can! Not only did I get the full version, but it's even better than I hoped! It's better than the original in EVERY way, and I love it SO MUCH!

warm lights & bold moves
Tumblr media
plot: you join your friends at the cafeteria, and your friends continue to tease you with their plan to make you sit beside the guy you like.
pt. 2 of 'a walk to remember'
ᵍᵉⁿʳᵉ: ᶠˡᵘᶠᶠ, ᶜᵒᵐᶠᵒʳᵗ
we join our friends at the corner booth as they wave to us. the shop is a cozy, familiar haven with its retro red vinyl booths and checkered floors. the scent of sizzling patties and french fries welcomes us. my best friend pushes me towards him. he takes the corner seat next to the wall, while she pushes me to sit next to him, their playful nudges and knowing smiles while my glares would have made it very obvious to him.
while glaring at my 3 friends who take a seat right opposite him, i muster a small confident smile and slide into the booth, my heart fluttering like a trapped butterfly.
the seat is warm from the afternoon sun, and i can feel the gentle hum of his presence beside me. the table's surface is cool under my fingertips, a contrast to the warmth of his arm resting next to mine. as we wait for our order, i let out a tired yawn. he probably noticed and shifted to my side as if to let me know that its alright to rest my head on his shoulder.
feeling bold, i let my head rest on his shoulder, the fabric of his hoodie soft against my cheek. his steady breath and subtle rise and fall of his chest are soothing, like the gentle rocking of a boat on calm water.
i close my eyes for a moment, savoring the nearness of him, the quiet camaraderie of our friend's laughter filling the air around us. his lack of protest, the way he subtly shifts to make me more comfortable, makes my heart swell. the scent of his cologne, a subtle mix of cedarwood and something uniquely him, mingles with the aroma of the coffee we had ordered along with our main delicacy.
my friends, of course, exchanged amused glances, their teasing smiles barely concealed as they chat about their day. my best friend pulled out her phone, acting like she was taking a picture of herself with her drink. i looked at her with wide eyes. i knew exactly what she was doing. this woman took a picture of me and him. i try not to smile at her teasing laughter as she looks at the picture and then at me. 'i am going to murder you if he notices' i communicated through my eyes while trying not to move much.
i could feel his gaze on me, curious and soft, as if he's trying to understand this unexpected closeness. i dare to look up, meeting his eyes, and for a heartbeat, time seems to freeze. his eyes, a deep shade of brown, hold a warmth that makes my stomach flip. there's a softness there, a hint of a smile that reaches his eyes and makes my heart race.
i quickly raise my head back up as the waitress comes to our table to deliver our order.
"thank you" both of us chimed together unknowingly, his softer than mine, mine brighter than his.
he shifts slightly, and his arm brushes against mine as it reaches for his share of the burger, sending a shiver down my spine. the simple touch feels electric, a silent communication that makes the world around us fade. i catch myself holding my breath, the moment stretching out in a perfect, breathless silence.
our friends continue to chat and joke, their voices a comforting background hum. i can hear snippets of their conversation, but my focus remains on him. the way his fingers tap lightly on the table, a rhythm only he hears. the slight curve of his lips as he listens to their chattering, the thoughtful way he nods along. every small detail, each one a new piece of the puzzle that is him.

Thought I'd share my very specifically curated female!V playlist, for those who love a bit of electro house/electro fuzz/techno/punk and most importantly, "songs that make me think of that one specific scene and/or character and/or relationship".
And because I'm nostalgic for old tumblr playlists, here's a breakdown of every song and why I picked it under the cut!
Saint Laurent Women's Summer 19 (SebastiAn): this is really here for purely audio-aesthetic reasons. It's the boot-up/loading screen vibe, but with even more vibes. SebastiAn is one of my favourite electro-fuzz artists of the 2010s, and he's been doing the mixes for the YSL shows for the past decade or so (they're all vibes).
Lost (Roger Sanchez, Lost in Rave Mix): This is for all the messy, clubkid!Vs. She may be an ex-corpo, or a streetkid, or a nomad living in the city, but she's always at the club getting lost in the sauce. Also, 2077 Night City is so 2010s coded for me (a former 2010s clubber, don't look at me).
I'm in Love With You (MSTRKRFT): It's the Sandra Dorsett mission, hardbass Scav style.
Steriods (Mr. Oizo feat. Uffie): Streetkid!V vibes. Messy messy messy.
Total (SebastiAn): The Johnny thematic tracks have entered the building. I love the way SebastiAn blends punk/rock elements with electro fuzz, and this track is the perfect glitchy mess to represent Johnny's flashbacks. (Also, notice the hand claps coming back from the last track?)
Moving in Stereo (The Cars): Some calmer Johnny vibes. Key lyrics here are,
It's so easy to blow up your problems It's so easy to play up your breakdown It's so easy to fly through a window It's so easy to fool with the sound
Sleep Deprivation (Simian Mobile Disco): A more chill track for the inbetween of V dying/waking up.
The Prime Time of Your Life (Daft Punk): Another glitchy, punky track for that delicious V/Johnny overlap. V's apartment post-surgery.
Yeah Yeah (Bodyrox, D-Ramirez Vocal Club Mix): V's gotta pick herself back up, and pick up the pieces. Favourite lyric here, "You think that you can rub me out, but I'm made of something".
Priceless (MSTRKRFT): Some Johnny vitirol here. Also love once more, the electro fuzz vibes that gives off a futuristic punk sound that is very Johnny/Samurai.
"Priceless what's the point of owning if you won′t collect? Surprises I took the doctor's orders and I woke up wrecked. Try this surely you've got more to say to me than that? And buy this ain′t exactly what I had in mind instead."
Chrystal City (Alan Braxe, Fred Falke): Downtown Japantown vibes. Something more retro in sound, but couldn't go past those sirens and crowd noises.
Us (Brodinski, Bloody Jay): A little bit Tigerclaws, a little bit Japantown, a little bit Pacifica.
MSMSMSM (Sophie): V is ready to fuck some shit up. Was definitely thinking of the Clouds/Scav mission here.
Behind the Mask (Yellow Magic Orchestra): This is my Goro/V specific track. That classic, late 70's Japanese electronica sound fits his old-world vibe. But the lyrics are especially choice:
"Now the mask you're wearing is stoney and staring. Lines and tears age and fears growing old passions cold."
And -
"Behind this mask I ask is it me or is it you?"
Infinite Us (Machinedrum): Those fluttering chords, footwork-style beats and the overall dreamy quality lends itself to a Goro/V scene we never quite got. And that song title seals the deal.
Blade (Digitalism): Careening around Night City in V's sleek ride of choice. Bonus points for the glitchy vibes in the middle of this track; lends itself well to a Netrunner V.
You're a Woman, I'm a Machine (Death From Above 1979): Is it Johnny and Alt, or is it Johnny and V? The lines are blurred. Some perfect lyrics here (note that it changes from "you" to "our/us" half way through):
"You want it all Just like you should Our thoughts are pure Our thoughts are good Be what you want You'll have it all I've seen it once I've seen it all."
Tiger Rhythm (Surkin): Another pick for the straight up audio-aesthetic vibes. Violent, pulsing and with some Tigerclaw vibes of course.
Reflection (Charlotte De Witte, Enrico Sangiuliano): Apart from the relevant, simple lyrics this is such a club banger that would fit right into Night City (or maybe the Heavy Hearts?).
Vista (Jackson and his Computer Band): 80's electronica meets the cyber-esque beats of the future, with a bit of wistfulness for good measure. Reminds me of the Ultimate Edition trailer that dropped a few months ago, and makes me feel a bit like happy endings could be possible afterall in Night City.
U Still Lie (Machinedrum): It's a little bit LizzyWizzy at the Black Sapphire, and a little bit Never Fade Away.

Childish Gambino - Atavista
I’ve made it no secret that I love Donald Glover, but ever since I saw Glover as Troy Barnes on Community in 2009, I knew that he was destined for greatness. Around the same time, Glover was doing a few other things: he was working on a sketch comedy YouTube channel, writing for 30 Rock, and most importantly, working on a burgeoning music career with the name Childish Gambino. With a name he supposedly got through a Wu-Tang name generator, I didn’t hear anything he put out until 2011 with his debut studio album Camp. I remember being 17 and hearing “Bonfire” for the first time, and my mind was blown from how catchy and clever his music was, especially for someone that hadn’t listened to rap music yet.
My enthusiasm did not share that of a lot of others, because Camp was not a well-received album. It’s gotten a cult following over the last handful of years, but it’s taken people the last decade to really get on board with Donald Glover as a rapper. 2016’s Awaken, My Love was the first time people collectively took his music seriously, but it was too long overdue. Since then, Glover released another mixtape and EP, along with the huge single “This Is America,” but he did quietly release an unfinished and unmastered project called 3.15.20 that a lot of people either didn’t know existed or forgot about completely.
I include myself in that, because I never really listened to it, unfortunately. The album didn’t have any song titles, only time stamps, and because the album wasn’t finished at all, I didn’t listen to it at all. Glover has said that he only released the album because he thought everyone was going to die, and understandably so. Recently he randomly announced that he was releasing a finished version of the album, only to surprisingly drop it on Sunday, May 13th. I was absolutely thrilled, because I’ve been wanting to hear a finished version of this album for years, now entitled Atavista.
Adding the title track and another “new” song, the fan favorite “Human Sacrifice” from 2018/2019, and removing a couple of songs (as well as adding some new guest features on the preexisting songs), the new album is here, so how is it? As I said, I never got into the original version, but if you’re discovering this for the first time, like a lot of people are, this is almost a transcendental experience. Atavista is one of the best albums of the year, if not one of the best of the 2020s so far. Hearing the finished version of this record has been an absolute treat, because it’s one of my favorite Childish Gambino records, and it may be one of his best.
This record both invokes some new ideas for Glover and a lot of subtle callbacks to his work throughout the last 15 years. It mainly has a funk, soul, and R&B sound akin to his last couple of projects, but there are moments where Glover raps and moves into some psychedelic and experimental stuff from Because The Internet. This album reminds me a lot of a mix between Prince, Michael Jackson, and an unfortunate reference, Kanye West. Make no mistake, I’m talking about Kanye circa 2004, not currently Kanye, but it’s also more so in his use of retro-leaning soul, funk, and R&B with modern textures.
Atavista has the interesting quality of where every song sounds pretty similar, but they’ve also got their own identities at the same time. The hooks on this record are quite nice, and Glover is the best vocally he’s ever sounded. This record is wonderful, and easily worth hearing if you’re a fan, or you want a catchy R&B / hip-hop record. I can see myself playing this a ton during the summer, because this is some perfect summer music. It’s also just one of my favorite albums of the year so far, and I can see it being awfully high on the list come December.

Brahman and LilDarkie’s departure from the idea of “LilDarkie” with a close look at the idea of “are you ready?”
Mixing rap and rock is a very very fun idea for me and it hits the spot CORPSE does without the gamer LED setup and his little cat ears. This is more of sound analysis without that much parsing through lyrics. I think with his recent releases of songs like “banana pie” he's going for more heartfelt angst with the tonal tag of a three wolves howling at the moon, coming from a 2020 perspective, in the same way CORPSE does it, and CORPSE is the sex icon of our generation for it. And honestly CORPSE is both underrated and overrated with people missing the absolute gem of “fuK u lol” and how it really encapsulates the idea of his spotify picture, it really is a “fuK u lol.” Very y2k without the tiktok.
I love how this genre of edgy boy music can be summed up in animated music videos. Being able to be actually soulful with an understanding of what the aesthetic is and how that plays into music. What “LilDarkie” now “Brahman” has over CORPSE is having more grit and less anime (which is ironic since I tend to prefer grit but love the anime music videos after y2k and I’m an ironic baddie). But said grit can lead to the stranger sounds of his guitar soul music Brahman now makes. Looking at his instagram Brahman is genuinely doing a full 180 from his previous persona dropping most of his trademarks to focus on his Indian blood heritage. Also as a tidbit on his insta he's seen doing a lot of wellness therapy which I find pleasing, self care seems to be much needed and I’d like to think it plays into the irony of HOLOCAUST without mentioning Hitler a single time.
His “big announcement” of who he is now and how he still has the “idea of LilDarkie” is in “are you ready?” which is very funny considering how it starts w/ “hahaha” and how it goes right into a CORPSE guitar solo which honestly is one of the freshest takes in current music and will be remembered fondly being put right in the niche where older music is just passing from cringe and into retro, where y2k music (like rave girl just not as universal) is going to come back into mainstream through it being paved in by CORPSE (please make more music we need you). But considering its LilDarkie I don’t think he’d give a single shit since he’s the man who made HOLOCAUST. My giddy around this new song is how it feels like hes stomp kicking his old fans who crowded around his persona of “HOLOCAUST” and “GENOCIDE” even with them being amazing songs which can be fun to critique on a social standing, to be done at a later date. What I hope is bringing back the skype days of the y2k genre, less glitz and glam and more of skype and anime posting with the same full-heartendess of a furry. If you were online in the early days you know what I’m talking about, it's My Immortal done right.
It feels like his newer stuff on Brahman can be seen as more “hidey” with his song “reminding” being a soulful guitar solo which he known to make. I find that fascinating and what has changed in him. Listening to his newest if not last album under the persona of Lil Darkie is just a social critique of society in general with the line “did the FBI calcify your third eye?” being the perfect line for his album with the context of “hehe funny hat.” He now has my soul and being with HUMANS AND MONSTERS being his best song of all time please devour me along with the earth and your Little Darkie realness. Also Lil Darkie flexing his platinum plaque is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen and all I do is squeal like a tumlbrina fangirl begging more more HOLOCAUST with a PC culture layover.
But considering the social critique his latest came off as I can fully see how he started to transition to a more soulful sound as a palette cleanser since he too, is a human being. Also consider his last song on this banger of an album is “it never gets better”
Glad youre in therapy Brahman, may you spend your time wisely soulfully and really tune into the ice that the blue filter brings into y2k internet and genuine feelings on myspace. You have enough clout and soul to carry it
Love
Tumblrina fangirl who hopes you mention her to your therapist, I am a fangirl after all

Love Over Anger Music is making waves with their latest EP: “Pure Heart”
March 2023: Love Over Anger Music managed to make a mark with a distinctive sound. The band’s sound is a blend of various influences, channeling the energy of classic rock with the unique twist of alternative music.
The group’s most recent studio effort, “Pure Heart,” stands out as a fantastic example of their artistry and flow, giving the audience a strong sense of natural character and edgy musicianship that feels spontaneous and natural yet balanced and creatively thoughtful. The EP features six songs. The song “Life as a Cartoon” is the perfect opener. The song’s unique ¾ tempo pairs beautifully with the guitar tone. The slide lead is excellent, and the mix’s sound has a unique flow that blurs the lines between old-school vibes and modern rock melodies. The second song is titled “Here’s One for the Drummer.” As the title might suggest, this song must be a blast to play on drums! It features a killer hook and a powerful arrangement. This song is truly outstanding, and after about 1 minute and ten seconds, the vocals chime in, taking the song to a whole new level. The third song on this EP is titled “Lizard Brain.” The intro offers a combination of piano and clean electric guitar. The vocals are beautiful and melodic, sometimes reminiscent of artists as diverse as The Kinks, Damien Rice, or Pink Floyd. The first remixed track is titled “New Beginning (Ukraine Remix). The sound has a lush, dreamy quality. This is one of the most emotional moments on the EP. The fifth song on this release is titled “Off the Grid (Guyana Remix) and is another beautiful ballad with a warm and relatable sound. The guitar and piano interact beautifully, and the vocals are incredibly powerful and personal, with a Cat Stevens vibe. Last but not least, the EP comes to a close with its sixth song, “Ghosts?”
This is an amazing conclusion to a beautiful and charming EP. The song brings back a very uplifting and happy vibe with a super energetic and fun arrangement!
Ultimately, fans of artists such as Mazzy Star, Queen, Monsters of Folk, and Led Zeppelin will most definitely enjoy this particular release.
The sound of the EP has a truly organic quality, making it incredibly powerful. Too many bands and artists rely heavily on studio processing and other trickery to alter performance to a point where they might risk losing the magic of the human component that drives the sound. However, this record has a natural and organic sound, reminding me of some of the best rock-inspired past works. The sound blurs the lines between retro rock aesthetics and the modern scene, making for a very diverse and refreshingly powerful sound. The overall vibe of the production is truly great!

The Def Leppard Limited Edition Ugly Sweater
Tumblr media
The Def Leppard Limited Edition Ugly Sweater
The Def Leppard Limited Edition Ugly Sweater is a visually bold, statement-making piece that brilliantly merges rock nostalgia with festive charm. Designed for true fans of the iconic rock band, this sweater combines the spirit of the holidays with the powerful, rebellious energy of Def Leppard’s music. At first glance, the eye-catching centerpiece—a roaring tiger’s face—commands attention, symbolizing the band’s raw power and wild spirit. This central image, surrounded by bright green Christmas trees and classic candy cane motifs, injects an unexpected mix of edgy and playful elements.
The vibrant color palette—featuring bold orange, yellow, and black hues—perfectly contrasts with the traditional festive reds and greens, creating a sweater that feels both retro and modern. Above the tiger, the unmistakable Def Leppard logo sits proudly in bright yellow, immediately recognizable to any rock enthusiast. Below, the phrase “Pour Some Sugar on Me”, a tribute to one of the band’s most iconic hits, adds a playful and nostalgic touch that completes the sweater’s unique theme.
From a style perspective, the sweater offers a comfortable, oversized fit, staying true to the classic “ugly sweater” tradition while catering to contemporary streetwear sensibilities. Whether paired with jeans for a casual holiday gathering or layered over leather for a more rock-inspired look, it is incredibly versatile. Fans of Def Leppard will see this as more than clothing—it’s a tribute to their music, a bold expression of fandom, and a perfect conversation starter for the holiday season.
Style & Design of The Def Leppard Limited Edition Ugly Sweater
The Def Leppard Limited Edition Ugly Sweater seamlessly blends rock-and-roll rebellion with festive charm, making it a statement piece for both music enthusiasts and holiday lovers. The design instantly captures attention with its bold color palette, dominated by fiery orange, yellow, and black, contrasted against classic Christmas greens and reds. The roaring tiger graphic at the center gives the sweater an unmistakably powerful edge, symbolizing the band’s fierce energy and legacy. This visual centerpiece is flanked by symmetrical Christmas trees and candy cane motifs, injecting just the right amount of seasonal playfulness without overpowering its bold rock aesthetic.
The sweater’s Def Leppard logo stands proudly across the chest, instantly recognizable and a nod to the band’s iconic branding. This placement anchors the design, allowing the surrounding festive elements to shine without losing its edgy, rock-inspired vibe. Below the tiger, the phrase “Pour Some Sugar on Me”—a direct reference to one of the band’s most famous hits—adds a nostalgic, fun twist. The combination of heavy metal symbolism with quirky holiday motifs creates a unique juxtaposition, catering to fans who want to celebrate their music passion during the holiday season. This careful mix of rugged and playful design makes the sweater perfect for standing out at any event.
From a style perspective, this sweater is designed to deliver both comfort and statement appeal. Its oversized silhouette, ribbed cuffs, and soft knit fabric make it ideal for layering over distressed jeans or pairing with leather pants for a bold, concert-ready vibe. Add chunky boots or sneakers to complete a street-style look, or go for a more relaxed approach with classic denim. Whether worn to a holiday party or a rock-themed event, the Def Leppard Ugly Sweater is a versatile, head-turning piece. It’s more than just a seasonal garment—it’s an expression of fandom, personality, and a celebration of timeless rock culture.

ah 10:34 am GMT+1. perfect time to rate each flstudio plugin ive ever used
rating is based on: personal subjectivity, effort it costs to use, and number of times ive actually used it
-non native instruments- (all these are free btw)
"Accordion VST" ★☆☆☆☆ self explanatory. got it around 1 or 2 years after i started making music for lofi songs. i couldnt get it to sound like i wanted n blend in well with the other instruments so i only used it a couple times. im thinking of trying it again messing around with filters since at the time of use i didnt know how to do that
"Revitar" ★★★★★ acoustic guitar plugin, sounds very folk. absolutely adore and also the very first plugin i got. since my version of flstudio didnt have any acoustic guitar plugins. can be tuned to sound like a shamisen <3 revitar loads poorly in my experience (just doesnt open on boot/loading it) but i always manage to get it to work eventually and its so good i forgive it.
"DSK Dynamic Guitars" ★★★☆☆ classical guitar plugin. got it i think like 5 years ago bc i wanted a guitar plugin that wasnt revitar. not perfect but does the job.
"DSK Overture" ★★★★★ iirc second plugin i got after revitar. it's a plugin for orchestra type instruments. i think i got it bc i wanted a violin. this plugin is amazing as it does many many instruments n i do use most of them. also some "instruments" are actually combo presets. you can set 4 of instruments to play at once (including the combos) which is ideal to mix them and get interesting sounds. absolute fave.
"EasternONE" ★☆☆☆☆ another versatile plugin i got early on when i started music. it does several instruments (though not as many as DSK Overture) among which: aud, accordion, santur, kaman, etc. kinda like accordion vst i used it a few times but not that much. also have a hard time blending the sounds with other instruments in a satisfying way. it does sound way more real and less digital then other plugins.
"NES VST" ★★★★☆ plugin for retro nintendo shape sounds: square, triangle, noise. perfect for that electronic sound and easily tunable <3 loses a star bc requires some work to fit effectively with other instruments.
EDIT: I FORGOT MINI ERHU!!!!!!!!! here it is:
"Mini Erhu" ★★★★★ self explanatory: erhu plugin. has several presets to instantly get different ways for it to sound. mixes very well with other instruments. absolutely perfect i love it so much. its just a sound i love. makes my music sound so weird since i mash it with other instruments in like electronical music etc and yea! idk how to make normal music! anyway its only dramatic downside is that the range is abysmal. otherwise so good.
-native instruments- (came with my FLstudio 12 version fruity edition - bc im fruity and its the shit tier of the paying versions.)
"Boobass" ★★★★☆ very classical bass that fits most modern sounding songs. a lil bland for my taste but perfect for not emphasizing bassline too much
"FLKeys" ★★★★★ // ★★★★☆ piano synth plugin. used to be perfect but in my version it broke so i can only use the shittier presets and i have to tune it every single time i use it. does not save presets. does not let me use my fave setting which was the grandpiano one </3 never got to work normally again.
EDIT: I also forgot FLSlayer OTL here it is
"FLSlayer" ★★★★☆ electric guitar plugin for rock or metal. very versatile for bass, rhythm guitar or solo guitar sound. it comes with a bunch of different "amps" also. just pretty good. dramatical downside is that it takes forever to tune to get the exact sound you want and mix it with other instruments.
-native filters-
"Fruity limiter" ★★★★☆ it's a limiter. always on by default and i never thought to turn it off. have no opinion on it.
"Fruity Reeverb 2" ★★★☆☆ a reverb plugin, fun to play around with to make the song sounds like its in a big orchestral room or something. i cannot be trusted to use it responsibly so ive stopped using it altogether lately.
"EQUO" ★★★★☆ another limiter, very versatile to give interesting shapes to sounds. i use it to get kind of a retro, desaturated sound. very much love.
there. hopefully this gives some insight about how i fully use FLStudio to almost 1% of its capacity. good nite.
also i did not elaborate on drumlines plugins thats bc i broadly dont care about drumline so much so i have way less of an opinion on them. i use most of the native plugins + DSK Overture for the drumline

The Noise
No Guarantees CD review, September 2003
Too often, between a first demo, a first EP, and a first full-length release, some intangible quality which helps to make a band great gets lost or misplaced in the mix. This happened to the Throwing Muses and the Pixies. My Own Worst Enemy, on the other hand, has made the same transition with grace and aplomb. The older material is kickass as always: Who Knew is akin to 'Roadrunner' fronted by a sloe-eyed chanteuse; MIA is like electroshock that makes you smarter. Delicately bleak and lovely ballads like Why Not Beautiful, Pills and Pride, and the superb Late Show vary the pace. Poison is a nascent classic, with a desolately lively feel right up there with Human Switchboard; ditto the downright catchy dirge-cum-drunken-chantey "(I'm the One You Wanted) Not the One (You Got)". This isn't a perfect CD, but even interesting experiments like the quaintly odd Mr. Leatherboots, overproduced declamations like Throw It All Away and the dynamic but misguided power-pop cover of Never Talking to You are ambitious efforts. And the CD's craziest song, Yearbook, with its start and stop dynamic and inspired xylophone obbligatos, belongs on every college radio station playlist in the Western world. (Francis DiMenno)

No Guarantees CD review, via email, November 2003
I've been spinning the fu*k outta the thing and have fired off e-mails to Dubrow and Allison demanding they play "No Guarantees" on the airwaves!...That's some good singin/good playing...Sue is the real Mary Ellen, and (Steve is) the basher of strung-out chords and high-strung singing! No wonder Lindsay was inspired to swing from the chandeliers. My favorite song is Hey Hey Sunshine...a real anthem. Goddamn the fu*kin' EXHILARATION of the thing--total 11th Dream Day first album 1988 vintage days of college radio. Something about those days never ended and I wish it was then right now (aw god we didn't know how good we had it). But My Own Worst Enemy seems bursting with that same sense of epochal climax (which is what I look for in all music). Should also mention John is one fu*kin' awesome skinpounder. It's the luck of the Irish. (Joe S. Harrington, Author, SONIC COOL)

No Guarantees CD Review, November 2003
If you're anything like me you're wondering when this retro-cool trend in popular and indie music is going to end. It just isn't my cup of tea. Now, that being said, I'm not one to turn my back on, or my nose up at a good album. No Guarantees by My Own Worst Enemy made me set aside my lack of enthusiasm for this kind of musical expression. The driving force behind my "turnaround"? Susan Minichiello.
What a set of pipes! Her voice is powerful, emotive and intense. The disc's cover sticker mentions the band has been compared to Throwing Muses and Patti Smith. I can definitely see the validity of these comparisons. She's got incredible power and presence, best showcased on the dark and thrilling Poison. Another showcase is Late Show. With its simple musical arrangement, it highlights her voice, showing off its depth.
The tracks on which Steve provides lead vocals don't go over quite as well, with one exception: the short, catchy Throw It All Away where the fuzziness of the vocal track softens the nasal quality, making pitch less of an issue, creating a very catchy vocal sound.
Musically it's a competent display of retro-feel modern rock. It's not going to blow you away with its awesome display of originality or groundbreaking use of their instruments. But it's certainly well crafted, catchy and, for the most part, quite melodic.
Generally speaking, two things can woo me to enjoy a disc that falls into a genre or subgenre that I don't normally appreciate. Fuzzy jangle guitar will get me every time. The other, the one that made me take heed of No Guarantees, is exceptional vocal skill. Thank you, Sue. You broadened my musical horizons. My Favorites: Poison and Throw It All Away. (SpodySingAlong)

No Guarantees CD Review, Winter 2003
Comparing My Own Worst Enemy (a great name, if too long) with the Modern Lovers and Patti Smith, as their label does, gives a good indication of the spunk found on this CD. Sue is mostly on lead vocals, and cuts like Poison are the best here, with loud, fuzzy guitars, the kind of music more likely to star on college radio than on MTV, and all the better for it. Rock Pulse
No Guarantees CD Review, April 2004
Boston based trio My Own Worst Enemy consists of singer/guitarist Sue, singer/guitarist Steve and drummer and backing vocalist John (that's right, they're a completely bass-less band). Having being compared to the likes of poetic rock 'n' roll Queen Patti Smith and indie group Throwing Muses, this band have obviously been making an impression on the industry. The group's second full-length release is No Guarantees.
The 13-track album starts with 'Who Knew'; one of the more 'punk' influenced tracks on the CD. It's a strong track to open with as it showcases the raw, honest sound that this band are so good at, and starts to hint at Sue's rich vocals (this isn't really fully shown until later in the CD.)
Track 2, MIA has a more 'rockabilly' feel to it. This time, it's Steve on the vocals, with lyrics such as "listening to your records makes me wanna start a fight" conjuring up images of an American country bar where the beer flows as freely as the smart talk and punch-ups (or at least in my imagination...)
Track 3 is Why Not Beautiful and we're back with Sue on lead vocals. This track has a light, summery feel to it with striking singing. It is, quite basically, 2 minutes of purely pleasant music that will get you singing along in no time (just don't try to sing as well as Sue, it won't work.)
Poison is without a doubt my favourite track on the album. The music has a dark, sinister atmosphere to it that works perfectly with Sue's smoky, hazy voice delivering the disturbing lyrics. You have to listen to this song!
Late Show, is in my opinion, one of the best tracks on the album. It's a slow, thoughtful ballad with truly emotive lyrics that are delivered passionately by Sue; I can imagine lots of drunk and emotional people all over the world sitting in their rooms and singing along to this (again, I think I have an over-active imagination.)
Track 6, Hey Hey Sunshine is a poppy, happy hippy kind of song, with loose vocals and a beat that will get you clapping along, if not waving your tambourine about. I'm thinking wonderful summer days and lots of daisy covered fields.
Other highlights of this album include Not the One, with it's grungy guitar, moody vocals and repetition of the lyrics, "I'm the one you wanted, not the one you got." Track 10 is an impressive version of Husker Du's Never Talking To You Again, which is actually pretty catchy.
The penultimate track is Yearbook, a slightly strange song with Steve providing lead vocals. The lyrics include repetitions of such classic American yearbook signings as 'have a great summer', 'see you in September' and 'we'll be friends forever'. I'm warning you now, if you listen to this track more than once, you will get these phrases drilled into your head and will probably start using them in everyday life instead of the popular 'Good bye'. Possibly.
The album finishes with Pills and Pride, another ballad with heart-felt lyrics and a genuine performance from Sue, who takes the lead vocals. This song really communicates Sue's great voice, and is an effective way of winding down the CD.
Overall, this is clearly a good album, produced by a great band. And although I'm not a huge fan of retro-indie music, (or whatever those crazy kids are calling it these days) I have to say that this CD has changed my thoughts on the genre. No Guarantees has a little something for everyone, and the use of two main vocalists is effective in creating an appealing male/female dynamic. This album is poignant, passionate and powerful. (Jess)

~Album Review~
Tomorrow x Together - The Name Chapter: FREEFALL
10 songs, 29 minutes 22 seconds
Growing Pain
Chasing That Feeling
Back for More (TXT Ver.)
Dreamer
Deep Down
Happily Ever After
Skipping Stones
Blue Spring
Do It Like That
Chasing That Feeling (English Ver.)
Thoughts:
I am a MOA at heart and have been since Run Away era. I am always excited for TXT releases, but I am also critical of them as I expect a lot from this group. They were my most streamed group in 2021 and 2023, I saw them live in 2023, and I have a dedicated playlist on my Spotify with local files of covers and songs not on streaming platforms. Safe to say I'm a diehard fan. However, this release made me feel mixed opinions.
The opening track is my favorite song on the album. TXT knows how to make an opening song that hooks you, and this is no exception. The song gives me 90s and 00s punk vibes. The vocals are crazy on this one, especially from Beomgyu and Yeonjun. I love when TXT does rock. The song blows me away every time I listen to it. Thank you, TXT, for this song. Sadly, this is the high of the album for me.
The title track is highly unexpected, and slightly disappointing. Somehow, CTF is an earworm. When I first listened to it, I was genuinely underwhelmed. Coming right off of Growing Pain, the hype was not maintained. It has a good 80s retro sound, and I really like the lyrics. It is almost too chill for me. Nevertheless, I cannot take it off of my playlist, very catchy. An easy listen is the best way for me to describe it.
Back for More is such a good pre-release. I was addicted to this song in September when it was released. Unfortunately, I overplayed it. The placement of this song is also kind of off-putting. Personally, I think it should have been after the more "edgy" songs of the album. For this reason, along with the overplaying, I always skip it. This song is still extremely captivating on it's own, and I am pleased that TXT got a well promoted pre-release track.
Dreamer and Deep Down have to be 2nd and 3rd place on this album, in no particular order. This is a slight high in the album for me. Here, TXT returns to sounds they have done in the past: R&B and EDM. I have been wanting this from TXT for so long. Interestingly enough, these songs sound slightly "off." Maybe it's the awkwardly high vocals on Dreamer that I cannot imagine being performed live, or the creepy, repetitive 'more' repeated in Deep Down. These are good songs, but I cannot focus too much on the details. Dreamer sounds ethereal and can put me into a trance, until the high notes in the chorus take me out of it. Deep Down gives me Can't We Just Leave The Monster Alive? vibes (a good thing), and is nice to have on a playlist, even if it is not perfectly executed.
Happily Ever After is a classic pop song, similarly to Happy Fools, but not as good. It has a really good pre-chorus and first half of the chorus, but once it gets to those la-la-las I want to skip. However, it's not as skippable as Ice Cream. It is rare that TXT makes a song that I want to skip, but here is the rough in the diamond.
I feel extremely neutral about Skipping Stones. It sounds like an anime outro to me and I cannot tell why. I know it will go hard in a concert setting, and I'm happy it is all in Korean (too many songs all in English). It feels like I should be obsessed with this song, but I am not. Maybe, it will hit after several months or once I see it live.
Blue Spring. Oh, Blue Spring, how I love you. I have had the live version of this song downloaded on my Spotify for months, so this song does not feel new to me. The live version is 100% better than the studio version too. I want to skip this song just so I can listen to the live version instead. This song would have been the PERFECT closer, but instead other songs come next.
Do It Like That and CTF English version kind of ruin the album for me. Without them, this album could have been a solid mini with some ups and downs. Instead, these two close out the album and it makes me feel sour. Do It Like That is not that good of a song to begin with, but it is so old at this point. It was supposed to be their summer bop, what is it doing in Freefall, that has a more alternative vibe, at all? I think Bighit just wanted the Jonas Brothers on the credits for the album honestly. And, even more pandering to the English audience, the English version of CTF is the final song. It is fine to include an English version, but why do they change already English lines to other, worse English lines? The original song had so much English to begin with. Extremely disappointing English version, and it makes me cringe that I'll have to learn these worse lyrics if I want to see them perform this live. I can't even hear Yeonjun sing, "I prepared to die..." or "feels like I'm on fire..." live. They took so much away from me.
Overall, I am somewhat disappointed with this release. When I take out the 3 English songs, it is listenable. I really wish they just made this a mini album, but here we are. Other than DILT, I don't hate any of these songs, so I guess it wasn't so bad.

Finding that sweet spot where vintage charm meets contemporary flair can breathe life into any outfit. It's about celebrating the past while embracing the present – a fusion that defines the heart of personal style
Always Showcasing Those Legs
I've always had a soft spot for showcasing my legs. I've been told they're a standout feature, and it's something I've embraced in my style journey. In LA's climate, you have the freedom to rock skirts and dresses almost year-round. So why not flaunt what you love? The skirt in today's look perfectly complements the Boho Elegance aesthetic. It's a nod to vintage charm with a modern twist. But remember, fashion is all about expressing yourself, so wear what makes you feel confident and beautiful.

One more thing close to my heart is my locs. I've been officially growing my locs for 6 years now, and it was the best decision I made when it came to my hair. Being someone who used to be more on the frugal side, I'd "play in my hair," as my mother would say. She suggested that I lock my hair, and I love it so much. My locs have become an integral part of my style journey, adding a unique and authentic touch to every outfit.
So, here we are, September 3rd, with an outfit that embodies "Boho Elegance with a Modern Edge." Embrace LA's weather unpredictability and your unique style. Fashion is your canvas, so paint it with confidence and creativity. Stay tuned for more outfit inspiration, and don't forget to explore the individual pieces by clicking on the links. I think well get new album in 2024 last. And it literally kills me not knowing what he's writing/recording. I do think it would mainly be pop album. Kid said they wrote a song similar to watermelon sugar. But I want to know more!!! Is he gonna lean towards r&b this time as a continuation for LNT? Are there going to be cherry/falling type deep cuts?? I hope there is atleast one accoustic song. And I am also wondering what the concept is going to be. Hs1 was a 'I go round and round' album. Fine line was a journey of self discovery through a relationship/heartbreak. Harry's house was longing/yearning for home. I have a theory that he might explore the concept of fame and how it can impact your life in a positive and negative way. I really want an angry song from him towards the haters in dwd era. Take the anger from woman and direct it towards media. I realised I am just clowning and has nothing to go on.
Anyway i can't wait!!!!!
he mixes it up on every album so i think the only inference to make is that he never does the same thing twice. i'm interested to hear if he stays with the quirky, sparkling pop he's proven so good at, pivots back to some of the rock and retro, does a fusion, or leans into something else entirely? the comment kid made makes me think more of that funky r&b aspect too. maybe more horns? especially since he has a horn section on tour right now. (i LOVE lnt, but i wish it had the coachella arrangement because it was perfection). your description of each theme is apt, and i wonder if he's been pondering the fame thing (especially given the music video for mfasr), and its ups and downs. i'd like to hear his perspective on that too if he wanted to address it. clowning and theorizing is always fun, we may not know anything but we can guess in the meantime!

The Links is releasing a new single: "Let's Go (Nothing for Me)"
The Links focus on creating music that blurs the lines between a wide variety of styles, while maintaining a distinctive sound.
The songs of the band explore the grit of post-punk and the texture of psychedelic alternative music with an open mindset. Recently, The Links recorded a new work titled "Let's Go (Nothing for Me)". It stands out as a perfect representation of what people can expect from this band. The production has a very organic and natural sound, which highlights the dynamics between the members of the band, capturing the raw intensity of the performance.
This song actually happens to be a cover of a New Order track. It is a very deep cut, and The Links did not seek to imitate the original arrangements, but rather offer a unique take on this little-known track from a classic band. As a result, this song was given a new life, and it’s very interesting to listen to for fans of the original as well!
Right off the bat, the combination of acoustic guitars and electric guitar tones immediately creates a very distinctive texture reminiscent of Alt-folk and American Indie rock from the late 80s and early 90s. The guitar lead that comes in after the intro has a timeless flavor, which echoes the work of iconic songwriters, such as Neil Young, as well as bands like Social Distortion, only to mention a few. The vocals come in at about 30 seconds in, immediately providing more personality. At times smooth and understated, at others gritty and energetic, the singing stands out, driving this song and bringing more soul to the mix. The tambourine is a small detail in the context of the mix, but it’s actually a very spot-on production detail, which adds a psychedelic rock flavor to this song. The idea of combining an “ostinato" tambourine rhythm with a drumset is a reminiscent of 1960s music, hence the connection with psychedelia.
Speaking of, the production style actually gives the song a unique flavor, which blurs the lines between retro aesthetics and the punch of modern alt-rock music. It is not always easy to blend different eras and textures so seamlessly, but The Links accomplished that to perfection with "Let's Go (Nothing for Me)", Making for a real spot-on timeless blend of influences.
Tumblr media
This release is highly recommended to people who enjoy, listening to bands like The Pixies, Dinosaur Jr., Sparklehorse, or Gouge Away, only to mention a few.
Find out more about The Links and listen to "Let's Go (Nothing for Me)". This release is going to be available on Thursday, March 28th on all major services.
