In your older art (when he was a rabbit breeder named Nikita I think) Mikita seems much more… smiley than he is now. The first time I saw him (I think 2022) I remember him being gay + aro instead of aroace. I adore this character and I would love to know how he changed/developed over the years!
Oh gladly. I adore this topic. Mikita is my oldest one (8 years old now!) and i have quite a lot to say and show about him, so ill put it under the read more. For some reason the picture formatting is completly broken when i do it. Thank you for the kind words
Mikita went through quite a lot name changes now that i think about it, at least compared to my other ocs; it went hand in hand with his ethnicity mostly, as he was i believe polish first, then polish/lithuanian and only since... 2020? belarusian (which i agree is definitely... a pipeline, but theres no deeper meaning behind it; for the 70% of his life the world he lived in was 100% fictional, and at the beginning even fantasy-like). His first actual name (not "rabbit breeder", which was the title used for him in the original story instead of a name. Names were a modern au thing) if im not mistaken was Fryderyk, then Nikita, and then Mikita. That name change did probably happen around 2022 because a Belarusian belarusianized his name for me and I liked it so i changed it. Very nice of them it makes much more sense in the current story
Years 2016-2020-ish he was gay (but not aromantic) and also dating Mikołaj; frankly i do not remember when exactly that changed, but he and Mikołaj are some of my oldest still in use ocs and they were always a package deal of sorts. Last time i drew shipart of them was in 2021. I think it might have stopped around the time i realized i am aromantic? It was a very important moment to me and the second it clicked i realized most of my ocs were secretly aromantic all along too. It was pretty funny now that i think about it
Personality wise he was a bit insufferable. Well he used to age with me (like most of my ocs) so he was very much a 15 year old. Very bratty and unempathetic to others, actively manipulative and overly ambitious. He used to smile a lot yes it was very in character then and i think it makes him look more annoying so it stays. Well either way i made so much art of him in that time i actually canonized it as his younger self in canon, now that hes older. I think thats a fun choice and i still like his old design, so its good to reuse it. Art from 2020, 2021 and 2023. I think current Mika would hate his old self a lot
Frankly when it comes to my ocs the big shift from that more dystopian completly fictional setting to more historically grounded one happened at some point and i dont remember when that was. 2020-2021 ish possibly. Its hard to remember because it did not happen from day to day; i think i abandoned these ocs original story for months before i made that choice? and even then i dont remember how current DNS or such a clear idea for it came to be, especially considering that it changed basically every single character drastically. Its weird to me but i suppose that knowledge is lost. That being said i think it does coincide with the creation of Przemek, who quickly became one of my favourites, so maybe theres that. I dont know. Well either way its a very good thing that it happened

Hello everyone!! welcome to our 3rd round of Giftober!! 👋🪄
It´s so good to be back!! Last year event was fabulous so I really wanted to meet you all again finally!
If it´s your first time in this blog, I officially started this 2 years ago, with the idea that these October 31 prompts can specially inspire, encourage and support gifmakers across all fandoms!
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
Reblog this post. (Optional but encouraged.) Create a gifset inspired by the daily prompts. Tag your posts with #giftober2023. Caption your gifsets with: @giftober 2023 | Day #: "prompt description". (Recommended.)
IMPORTANT:
Make your own gifs. (I won´t reblog reposted gifs or gifs taken from the Tumblr search.) No explicit content. All fandoms are welcome! As long as you all respect each other! ☝
(The prompt list written and more info under the cut.)
Any doubts you may have, you´re welcome to leave it in my 📧 inbox.
THIS EVENT STARTS ON OCTOBER 1ST and I can't wait to see all your creations! 💗
Ele :))
REMEMBER:
You don´t need to make all 31. You can make as much and as few as you want. And not exactly in order nor you have to post on time.
If you can´t exactly fit one of the prompt with your fandom, no worries! You can skip it or... modified it as your convinience, think of another prompt, do one from the 2021/2022 events instead! 😁
I know it might be a few others challenges in October, and make a daily set for a whole month sounds quite overwhelming, so please, don´t feel any pressure to complete this one! (in fact, you can combine prompts from other challenges!)
Since you don´t need to post in time, you can finish this after the month is over. Although I´ll check the tag less frequently then.
These prompts are completely up to your interpretation, but for any doubt, please, you´re welcome to ask me.

#miss those simple times when he could crack a silly joke and not have ten articles written about whether he’s serious about f1 or not :((
no but can we talk about how much he had to shrink himself after 2022? It’s crazy like he was having fun in 2023 but he was very restrained and you could tell it was…filtered. Corporate. Not him. Even when he tried to crack a joke (eat shit was very tame imo) or stir the pot (re lando v max) his comments got dissected to hell and the hate comments. They even tried to get Felipe Massa mad at him.
the car video he posted 2 days ago. That was Daniel. That was the Daniel i got obsessed with from DTS. That was the Daniel I heard about. Cocky. Big dick. Manspreading. But hot about it. Sometimes I wonder maybe this violent separation from a sport that didnt appreciate him as much as he loved it was a necessary evil. Maybe this was what Daniel needed to realize that. No bitch. YOU are the CUNT. You are HIM. Never shrink never surrender.
I don’t know how to really explain this, but I think Daniel Ricciardo is this odd ball of dichotomies. He has this ability to be so authentically himself and yet, still somehow be this persona. I think it all goes back to his toro rosso days when Jevs admitted that his career suffered a lot because he had this always-smiling positive Daniel to contend with. It’s also what the red bull people said about him as well — how he came into the team in 2014 and just lifted everybody’s spirit with his positivity in what was a tough season for them. And perceptive little Daniel would have realised that if he was always the nice positive guy, they’d always like him.
And then he started winning and the more daring overtakes he did on track, the more he played into the whole laid-back arrogance. The whole red bull PR machinery played such a big role into making him look like the guy who did everything effortlessly except that at his core, he was still the overly anxious guy who kept having to work really hard to do what he did. Maybe the interesting thing for me about Daniel is that the more he faked it, the more he did become this supremely confident person. He fed off the admiration of people to truly become this cocky guy that had this unshakable confidence in himself that give him ANY car and he was going to drive it real fast.
But then 2021 comes around and things are not as easy however hard he tries and so he reaches for his funny persona because it’s his protective mechanism. That first half of 2021, you can literally see him come to the realisation that people had come to resent him for being ‘funny’ and he’s spent the years since trying to escape that image he himself actively created just to prove he was serious about this sport. Despite all that, he stood there in Abu Dhabi in 2022 and tried to show that more vulnerable side of him, but even then, people still rejected him. And he tried so hard to please so many different people - his team that wanted him to be charming Daniel for the sponsors, his team that wanted him to show he was trying really really hard, the fans that wanted the old Daniel back, the vultures in the media that wanted him to show he was serious (whatever that actually is) that ultimately it simply became easier to stop sharing so much of himself.
And now that he’s walked away because, in all the mess of his last weekend in the sport, he did choose himself above all else and that was his way of reclaiming a bit of himself in a way. And now he gets to choose which Daniel he wants to be and when you’re free of the people who tried to limit you, it’s easy to go back and find that guy who used to swing his dick about. It’s easy to remember that you could once again be THE cunt.
#he might have started off by faking this big dick persona#but he eventually did become that person and he has the achievements to back it up#and now that he doesn’t have to play loyal puppy simply to beg people to see that he is worthy#now that he is the one to decide what his worth is ….#he’s going to reach down and drag that arrogant motherfucker back to life#adimouze

Hi, since GMM has many Thai BL series, just wondering, do you have favorites from them? If you do, do you have 10 you like most so far?
I do not have the best relationship with GeeMeeMee but over the years they have provided some tasty bls here and there, I'll try to give you a little top 10
1.Not Me (2021)
To me that's like the best GeeMeeMee show ever made, great activism story, all the storylines are compelling, it gets accidentally funny with the twins stuff and the fact that Yok the resident arsonist is tryna fuck that cop so bad, but with Yok's help Dan finished realizing that he was part of a system that was beyond fixing and it was better to get himself free of it than staying, honestly has one of the best storyline and character development ever written in a bl
2. 3 Will Be Free (2019)
A gay mafia son, a stripper and a gogo bar manager walk into a bar, shenanigans ensue. To this day, the only GeeMeeMee show to have given me an endgame throuple and frankly one of the only cannon throuples we have in bl
3. Moonlight Chicken (2023)
By god Wen fucked that old man in the chicken shop, but in all seriousness this bl probably has the best breakup storyline I've ever seen in any media ever, it's a truly masterpiece; also we saw the story of a deaf character who uses sign language and that's not something you see often in bl tbh, wish we had more Gaipa and Alan but you take what u can get
4. Cherry Magic Thailand (2023)
Honestly this one took me by surprise, I'm not a fan of remakes but they did a really good job adapting those japanese characters to a Thailand setting while keeping some of the japanese background there, and go a bit further and deeper than the original did with some of the characters
5. Wandee Goodday (2024)
This one was my obsession for the last few weeks, unfortunately I think the show lost some momentum around the middle of it, and it needed more balance on some stuff, like one of Dee's big trauma wasn't even resolved even if they showed it affecting him pretty severely at least twice, while we spend like almost the whole 2nd half of the show on Yak's, overall very silly and enjoyable and also nice asexuality representation which is not something you see often in bl
6. The Eclipse (2022)
I'm not really a high school boy bl type of person and I usually avoid them but they got me with this one, I think Akk's storyline ressemble Dan's a lot in the sense that he had to realize he was part of a system that is bad and is using him to maintain a bad status quo and then had to free himself from it even if that's all he's ever known, Ayan is of course of a great help with his flirtiness, shenanigans and overall fuck the rules attitude
7. Bad Buddy (2021)
Thai bl's Romeo and Juliet, what I loved the most about this one was the attention put on the dynamics of Pran and Pat and their respective families, and how even if they didn't succeed in changing their fighting parents minds, they stayed together and continued to love each other because at the end of the day, the love was between them and it had nothing to do with their parents
8. He's coming to me (2019)
I love me a ghost story like any other guy, so this was right up my lane, I gotta admit it's been like 4 years since I've seen this so I don't remember the storyline clearly, but it left a good impression on me, so much that years later I still think of it as good
9. Only Friends (2023)
Top 10 messiest friend group ever created, this could have been higher on the list if they didn't do Boston dirty in the very last goddamn episode of the show
10. Dark Blue Kiss (2019)
I honest to god remember nothing about the mains but this show has the best coffee shop au in the ql universe and it's from 2019, SunMork chemistry is just firing all over the place, definitely my favorite Gawin ost too

Every month we will pose a question and collate responses as a fun and informal little exercise in getting to know each other and spark discussion.
For Hetalia's 18th anniversary, we asked our writers:
“How did you first get into Hetalia?”
Beetroot / @council-of-beetroot: People had recommended it to me prior since I'm a geography nerd but I heard it was offensive. At one point I read a fanfic about Hetalia Lithuania and that piqued my interest. But then like six months, around March of 2022, later I recalled my sister talking about a funny scene from Hetalia. So I decided to look up Hetalia out of context on YouTube. I decided nothing could be more offensive than I was at 13 so I watched that and then knew I had to watch the show. I watched the show in a weekend. It was particularly funny to watch at the time because my best friends that year in highs were foreign exchange students from Germany and Japan. Anyway here I am now.
Angel / @billowingangel: I got into Hetalia around 2015 by reading x Reader fanfiction and I stumbled upon a Germany x Reader on DeviantArt and then I went down a rabbit hole of the Hetalia countries x readers. The x reader fanfiction comforted me immensely as I was struggling greatly at the time and that was probably the worst time of my life. Then I found other Hetalia fanfiction and fanart, and I then watched some of the episodes on YouTube. Since then Hetalia has been something of great comfort and nostalgia to me. Hetalia honestly means so much to me and there's been so many lovely people in this fandom that I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with 💗
Didi / @teaedon: Searched my country on deviantart, found Hetalia OCs comics. Watched the anime when it had just 1 or 2 seasons out (both 2009), and began to keep up with blog and page translations on Livejournal (did I understand English at the time? Barely lmao). Then jumped from Livejournal to Tumblr but because a funny-unrelated-to-Heta blog, but soon more than later I started following Hetalia blogs... Made my sideblog in 2015; I should have done that sooner, it's around that time that my actual main fandom was another for a while. Even with the manga hiatus ending in 2021 (also new anime season), I only fully returned in 2022. No fics until... 2023, omg (the deleted ff.net one from when I was in school doesn't count).
Tama / @delgumofics: Back in 2012 my sister suggested I check it out, said it was funny. I watched ep1 subbed and by the end I had a glassy look in my eyes, shut it off, and promptly forgot about it. Later on it was on Netflix so I gave the dub a shot and died laughing. I binged the whole original run in a couple days then started looking at fics.
Eru / @eruverse: I first learned of Hetalia around well 10 years ago, but couldn’t get properly into it. I alrd liked Vanya but that was that [...] I properly got into Hetalia after they released Indonesia, so it was just around 2021. Was immediately thrown into Netherlands/Indonesia, the beloved ship of Indonesian fandom, creating fanarts for them and brainrotting with other Indonesian fans. Good times! Ah, NLID… other Indonesia ships would simply not compare to the weight of history, emotional baggage, and all kinds of other baggage of this one ship. You should check it out, and being Indonesian I have the front seat for accessing juicy historical materials. Nobody in the fandom knows the special side of Netherlands that Indonesians do.
@folightening: Bought and watched the first season a long time ago, I think it was out of curiosity. I remember people talking about it at school and I recognized the name at the store so I got the first season to check out. Didn't do anything more with it until ~2 years ago I think? Watched it again on a whim, bought the series in a collection set, found where I could read it, got my writer's block shattered, and the rest is history.
Yukihitomi / @arthurhonda: This is actually a funny story. So it was back in 2011, and my friend recommended it to me because I like history and was a history kid. It also had nekotalia, and I love cats. Combine the two, and it was a good recomendation. Ironically, she said "don't get into the fandom." Clearly, I didn't listen.
Ash / Lutz: A friend told me the anime was really funny so we watched a few episodes of it when we were in high school. I was hooked and almost immediately started googling amecan fanart lmao
Prush / @proosh: I can't remember exactly but I think my discovery of it was connected to the old DeviantArt series Scandinavia and the World? But it was around 2011, I'm pretty sure, and I got into it via the dubbed parts uploaded to Youtube. It activated me like a sleeper agent, having already had an early interest in history, and I've been trapped in here ever since.
Lacy: I randomly found the series while I was reading some news. (Think it was back in 2013-14). Sort of got very obsessed with it and was joining groups left and right, bought fktons of merch for a lot of characters. (i just love them all crazy at that point of time) One of the groups i was in decided to hold some event and thats where i wrote my first fic. Then theres so much stupid drama i just withdrew eventually and kept to myself with just one ship. (At this point there was this one person who was writing with me). Then came the time when she left as well, so I did question at that point if i still want to stay in this fandom alone (and i did, because i just want to finish up my wips 🫠).
Mossman / @one-more-mossman: I don't remember exactly how I did get into Hetalia , but I checked out the date of my first Hetalia pfp and it's December of 2012. I remember being super into Ivan and putting him on all my pfps and telling my friends about him and being all mushy and stupid. I had pretty limited access to the internet at that time, and didn't speak any English, so I wasn't a part of the Hetalia fandom - neither the English speaking nor Russian. So I didn't know he was an unstoppable rape truck y'know. I was drawing him and just silently vibing with him. I got into the actual fandom about three years ago - was a lurker first, not interacting aside from leaving kudos/comments, then got into fic writing (for English speaking fandom, I thought it was more lively than the Russian one). Found wonderful people here. Happy to be here, glad to have people sharing my interests. (Notice there is not a single mention of liking history. I don't like it. I can't remember a single fact.)
WhiteWings / @smuttyandabsurd: Gosh everyone started so much later than me... Anyway back in 2007, my sister forwarded a random USUK fanart to me on deviantArt simply because "it's BL and you might like it." I binged the first season of the anime and was tickled enough to keep watching as further seasons came out. I was already casually interested in history - it was my second favourite school subject behind English lit - but after Hetalia? Yeah I was reading the densest modern history nonfictions around, hovering in the military history section of the library among random middle-aged men, and writing rapetruck smutfics with a ~historical~ flavour. Anyway, 17 years later, everything from the way I consume Hetalia and tangentially-related topics to my writing has had a dramatic evolution from my humble weeb-y beginnings, but I'm still in this dang ass fandom and I can't find the exit.
Sicily: I was into countryhumans and I came across it, and was like, pft I'm never going to like hetalia.., and now we are here

Did you know there was issues in your relationship all along or are there things you didn't realise until towards the end? I've followed you for a few years and from the little bits you'd shared on here your relationship sounded perfect at times. Was there a big change or were things not as good as they seemed all along?
I've been thinking about this alot lately, especially because I scrolled back through my archive not long ago looking for old fic related content and stumbled across loads of old asks from around 2021 when we were really happy together, and those asks paint such a perfect picture of everything, and it's weird because I can hardly remember that year now... But I do know I was that happy and that we were a really beautiful couple. I think he just changed a lot and slowly enough I didn't really see it until it was way too late...
But idk, I really do believe we were as good as I used to talk about us being back during that first year of being together together. Then idk, maybe towards the end of 2022 things were a bit, not rocky, but I definitely started to have doubts... The thing was there were so many other miserable things going on that I could put the doubts down to anxiety and circumstances rather than anything being wrong with the actual relationship... I always had an excuse for why things were the way they were... And he was still there for me in ways I guess my family weren't seeing... And also so many of the things that I had doubts about were like, I kept telling myself they were me problems, or that I was being petty and shallow... Stuff to do with like, physical presentation, or the way he'd speak to me sometimes...
And then yeah, late 2023 I think I knew we were on a losing streak, we had these arguments that should have been petty little squabbles that we came out of as adults... But instead he'd be really shitty to me about them, and they'd almost always circle back to being about how bad his mental health was, id say something like "hey, pls remember you said you'd apply for that course because we're supposed to be moving in together and you're meant be moving out your family home..." And he'd get super angry and then be like "this is the kind of thing that makes me want to *insert dramatic graphic description of whichever suicide method he fancied that day"
And like, he'd make me feel bad for questioning small things like if he didn't brush his teeth and I said hey maybe you should brush your teeth today, then he'd make really snide bitchy comments to me or go back to the "this is the kind of thing that makes me want to kill myself" thing again.
And idk, I'm really understanding of mental health, my job means I'm really trained in understanding it, and my own experiences of it mean I can be very understanding, but like because of that I Know that what he was doing was abusive. And like he would often use my mental health against me if I tried to raise the issue and be like "you shouldn't treat me like this.."
And then obviously even when things were bad, 2022 and 2023 were pretty heavily littered with good moments. And moments when he made me feel loved and treasured...
Then again there was a night we were out last year, we'd been drinking with our mates all day and there weren't enough seats so I had to sit in his lap, and it was all fine but after awhile I'd worried if I was too heavy and then when I asked him if he was alright me sitting there or if I was too heavy he thought it would be a funny thing if he dropped me as a joke. But he let me fall on the floor in front of our mates to get a laugh out of the boys and idk, I think I was upset with him for that but he turned it on me and pretended like he hadn't realised it was mean... And I believed him, and I just think that if my dad had said the things he said to me today about why he had started to go off B, then I'd have realised so fucking fast that my dad was right and that actually I needed to leave and stop wasting my life.
And this all makes everything so painful because it's like wow my best mate of like nearly 8 years wound up treating me like I was his fucking disposable vape or something:/
I think the shit part of the breakup has finally hit lol

sorry to be bringing a very old topic but who was you rooting for during the 2021 season? and overall thoughts there too (not just abu dhabi!).
So. I wasn't yet a F1 fan in 2021.
I started watching casually mid to late 2022 (barely keeping up) and properly started watching mid-2023. I do somewhat remember the media storm when Lewis lost, though.
My opinion on Hamilton in general has changed greatly since I became an F1 fan. Mostly because, I'm not gonna lie, so much of the hatred towards him is racism, thinly veiled. When I wasn't into motorsport it was very easy to think, oh he's arrogant blah blah blah, but he's no worse than any other driver from that era, and he's grown on me big time. He's funny.
I probably would have rooted for Lewis. Purely based on the fact i hate christian horner and red bull as an organisation. I wasn't a fan of them before all the goings on this season, either. Max, now, is one of my favourite drivers but in 2021 he was a completely different beast. Still hungry, and he had a LOT more to prove back then.
2021 in general is a hugely controversial season. I think its probably the most controversial season of my lifetime, and unless merc or ferrari build an extremely quick car in 2025, i think its going to stay that way for a long time. I truly think Max will retire or jump ship from RBR before Piastri is ready to put up a title fight and i think norris might just not be a title contender when you put him alongside verstappen. Truly the only way we're getting another season as good as 21 is if the teams are evenly matched and we're looking at a driver hunting down their first championship again - Russell, Leclerc are probably next in line.
Max and Lewis were incredibly evenly matched but without FIA intervention it would have been Lewis'. That being said that final lap is pure fucking cinema. At the end of the day, sport is entertainment, and that's what AD21 was.
Since I wasn't there for 2021, i think the only things i can really talk about are the big flashpoints: the crashes. Monza was Max's fault, Silverstone Lewis'. But unfortunately these two guys are some of the toughest to race w2w and Max can be incredibly dirty when the need arises (and Lewis, but I would argue less so), and those collisions were always going to happen, one way or another. They were both just doing their jobs, racing incredibly hard. They were both worthy of that WDC, despite the fanbases being insanely polarised.

This is just a rant because I want something to look back on as motivation and possibly to encourage others to better themselves, as of January 2021 I was at 79kg, the highest I think I would of ever hit would’ve been 82kg and I was 5’6-5’7 so I was medically overweight heading to obese.
I was incredibly depressed, bored and felt completely out of my own control.
I was in a in a phase of wearing black or indie or “emo” clothes I’d call them back then in an attempt to make myself seem smaller by the use of the colours.
As of January 2022 I was 74kg. I remember looking in the mirror being sooo proud of losing a considerable amount of weight because my binging disorder was so beyond anything I thought I could ever control. And I’m still proud of myself looking back because this was a good turning point where I realised my health is on an immediate decline and I’m still young.
As the year continues I fluctuate between 76kg- 73kg.
January 2023 I’ve definitely gained weight, I’m constantly sat on 76kg-75kg and the scale won’t budge. I was so depressed and lonely, my physical health was just an outward look on how I felt and everyone knew that. I was on the path to serious health problems, I couldn’t walk down the street without being out of breath, I would get dizzy walking up the stairs to my room.
2023 was definitely the year of chance for me. I went from the start of the year at 76kg to by December at my lowest I was 68kg. This journey may sound so slow to this community, but I was working out once or twice a day, eating less snacks and working towards physically doing better not for the tumblr aesthetic of being skinny but to actually physically be healthy.
This is me in December of last year
As of January 2024 I am at 68kg, people treat me better, people treat me like I’m more approachable, when I express my opinion people don’t treat me like im a stupid obese girl who has no feelings. If there is one thing I could take from my experience of being obese/ overweight as a teenager is that it’s so cliche but you will not lose weight and keep it off until you mentally change your standards for yourself.
This is me as of now at 67.4kg, I wake up with a flat stomach and get bloated but only to a manageable point, everyone treats me more delicately and people can lift me no problem, I’m 5’8 now and I’m told I should model often for my skinny hands or my height.
I still definitely have more to lose but not only have I gained confidence and a boyfriend and people accept me and I can be funny without being the funny ugly fat friend, I can run for a considerable amount of time, I haven’t binged in almost 7 months and I have gained self control.
My Goal is 63kg and I don’t like it then I will gain weight back! I want people to realise it’s not about the number it’s amount how comfortable you feel.

media list (26.02.2024 - 26.03.3024)
👂 Listened:
Albums:
Speak Now (Taylor's Version) by Taylor Swift (2023) [8/10, probably my favourite of her re-releases, Timeless and Electric Touch are amazing vault songs.]
Red (Taylor's Version) by Taylor Swift (2021) [7/10, I don't really love any of the vault songs in this except for the 10 minute version of All Too Well, and while I like the tune and vibe of I Bet You Think About Me, I find it lyrically awkward.]
D-Day by Agust D (2023) [5/10, musically I just don't vibe with Yoongi's solo stuff a lot of the time, so it always ends up being a very distant appreciation, and I'll be honest and say I probably wouldn't listen if I wasn't already a fan.]
Indigo by RM (2022) [8.5/10, really really solid album, though it couldn't quite overtake mono. for me in terms of how much I loved it - considering if I were to rate mono. it would absolutely be a 10/10.]
Podcasts:
Morbid Episodes: ⤷ EP 502: The Highgate Vampire ⤷ EP 503: The Torsaker Witch Trials ⤷ EP 541: The Unsolved Murder of Georgette Bauerdorf

Too close for comfort: Aussie filmmaker’s accidental portrait of a psychopath by Karl Quinn from Sydney Morning Herald [As made obvious by this list, I do tend to watch something then immediately seek out more information - a lot of the time it just leads me to reddit threads, but other times I do find articles and read those.]
The Bible Says Jesus Was Real. What Other Proof Exists? by Christopher Klein from history.com
What is the historical evidence that Jesus Christ lived and died? by Dr. Simon Gathercole from Guardian [I was dragged to church by my other and it hit me that I'd never even tried to find proof on whether or not Jesus wasn't fiction, so I started reading what people had to say. tldr; no archeological proof, though people of Jesus' class at the time didn't tend to leave archeological proof of their existence, and it seems there are accounts of Jesus starting 30 years after his death from non-Christians, so. Probably a real guy. Whether or not he's actually the son of God is, of course, unable to be proven.]
Books:
Stalking Darkness by Lynn Flewelling [finished! Another 10/10.]
Pine by Francine Toon [dropped - couldn't continue this one anymore, it's slow and filled with details that had nothing to do with the actual mystery or the characters themselves - I think other people might have appreciated it for the way it allowed you to visualise the setting so vividly, but to me it was just incredibly boring.]
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen [in progress, told myself I'd read more classics and thought I'd start with one I was supposed to read in high school.]
Spy x Family vol. 1 [finished! 10/10. Immediately bought the 10 volumes out on Amazon after reading this because I enjoyed it so much. Loid Forger is a goldmine of a male character, the kind that's easy to fall for and to root for. Anya is sweet and funny and interesting, and Yor is just the icing on the cake of their dynamic.]
Spy x Family vol. 2 [finished! 10/10 - my goodreads rating system is going to be SKEWED after reading this manga.]
Spy x Family vol. 3 [finished! 8/10 mostly because I didn't love Yor's brother at all.]
📺 Watched:
Movies:
Dune: Part Two [8/10 - this really revitalised my love of going to the cinema! I've watched it twice, and I've made plans to see some other movies in theatre and it's really all because this was such an experience to see on the big screen. Highly recommend.]
YouTube:
The Deranged Arsonist Who Filmed Their Own Crime • Mystery Files from Watcher
The Perplexing Legend of Vermont's Sea Monster • Mystery Files from Watcher
True Crime Cases with Disturbing CCTV Evidence from Lazy Masquerade
Documentaries:
Our Planet II [This was gorgeous and informative and also eye-opening in how it shows you the direct impact of human carelessness on so many creatures, to the albatrosses choking on plastic and the walruses unable to find ice to leave its baby. At the same time, there's hope! There's humans helping crabs cross roads, and bridges being built for animals who've used the same paths for hundreds and possibly thousands of years.]
Life In Colour with David Attenborough
Worst Roommate Ever EP 1-2: [the first episode one was WILD, especially because I had no idea this was a true crime when I clicked on it, and so did not expect it was going to involve several dead bodies buried in a little old lady's backyard. I do feel like this was such an intriguing case that I had a hard time finishing the second episode, since it feels so much more ... dull in comparison, as terrible as that is to say about murders.]
David Farrier's Mister Organ [I'm a long-time fan of David Farrier, but didn't get a chance to watch this for a while. This one is a dark, dark tale that has nothing to do with murders. It's all psychological. I'm always amazed with how well Farrier can explore the darkness of humans without turning to the usual things we think of when we think of 'bad' people. I'd also recommend reading this article - which I'll also read on my read articles list - after watching this documentary, just so you know how insidious Michael Organ truly is.]
Into The Deep: The Submarine Murder Case [I don't give the things I watch ratings, but if I did, this would be a 10/10 - it's a unique experience to be able to see footage of how the people close to a murderer react as they realise the kind of person their friend is.]

New Year's Eve Favorites
New Year’s Eve rolls around just six days after Christmas, when many are still knee-deep in wrapping paper and ribbon. It’s easy to just roll New Year’s into the Christmas celebrations, doing little to mark the moment beyond watching the ball drop at midnight. But there are plenty of films centered around New Year’s that deserve their own holiday film recognition.
Updated: December 31, 2023
My Favorites…
About Time (2013) - This Richard Curtis written/directed movie is one of my all-time favorite films, period. But it all starts with a life-changing New Year’s Eve party.
When Harry Met Sally (1989) - Often considered a bit of a stealth Christmas movie, this rom-com classic ends, unforgettably, on New Year’s Eve.
The Cutting Edge (1992) - It’s hard to call this movie about a former hockey star turned Olympic figure skater “good,” in any objective sense, but that doesn’t keep me from loving it wholeheartedly. Even if you haven’t seen it 50 or so times, like I have, I doubt anyone can forget that moment when sparks fly, literally, between Doug Dorsey and Kate Moseley at a New Year’s Eve party, when they twirl into each other’s arms with sparklers at the stroke of midnight (sigh).
Brittany Runs a Marathon (2019) - Not specifically holiday-themed but Brittany makes a pretty perfect New Year’s watch. Funny, inspirational and all about self-improvement. Absolutely adore this one.
About a Boy (2002) - While it also features some sweet Christmas scenes, Hugh Grant and Rachel Weisz meet cute on New Year’s Eve.
The Poseidon Adventure (1972) - The movie that defined 1970s disaster movies remains good, cheese-tastic New Year’s fun. I remember the first time I saw this one as a kid, on cable, on New Year’s Eve. A group of New Year’s revelers trying to escape a cruise ship that flips over? Indelible.
Starstruck (2021, HBO Max) - Think of season one of this 6-episode British series, written and created by a Kiwi, as a three hour rom-com that begins on New Year’s Eve and ends the following Christmas. A delightful watch any time, but extra-special during the holiday season.
Peter’s Friends (1992) - This criminally under-rated British ensemble comedy features a host of stars—Hugh Laurie, Imelda Staunton, Emma Thompson, Kenneth Branagh and Rita Rudner—gathering to celebrate the New Year at their college chum’s English estate.
Something from Tiffany’s (2022, Prime Video) - This holiday romance centers around Christmas gifts from the famous jewelry being inadvertently swapped, but most of the movie takes place between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve when everything comes to a head.
Plane (2023) - If this New Year’s Eve-set action movie leaned in just a bit more to its New Year celebration, it could reach Die Hard-style holiday classic status. While the New Year’s element doesn’t factor much after the first 15 minutes, this is a well-made, well-acted and well-paced watch. Honestly, some of Gerard Butler’s best work which, yeah, isn’t the highest bar, but Plane is a super entertaining action-disaster pic that, forgive the pun, is a lot more grounded than expected.
Other People (2016) - This very well told story about losing a loved one to cancer is funnier than you’d think, given the subject matter, has an amazing cast, led by Jesse Plemons, Molly Shannon and Bradley Whitford, and starts off with a New Year’s Eve bash.
About Fate (2022) - This American remake of a Soviet-era New Year classic, 1976′s The Irony of Fate, available to legally watch on YouTube via Mosfilm, stars Emma Roberts and Thomas Mann as recent (sort of) dumpees who meet cute due to alcohol-induced architectural confusion, and end up attending a New Year’s Eve wedding together with chaotic results, with the whole story playing out from December 30th to January 1st.
Fruitvale Station (2013) - This gut-wrenching Ryan Coogler feature directorial debut should have won Michael B. Jordan an Oscar. Set entirely on New Year’s Eve, it’s the devastating true story of the last day of Oscar Grant’s life.
Phineas and Ferb: Happy New Year (2012, Disney Channel) - This fun episode of the crazy kids’ series works as a stand-alone New Year’s special that’s better than most.
Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings: Two Doors Down (2019, Netflix) - Cheese-y, feel-good, queer holiday romance that ends with Dolly Parton singing Auld Lang Syne. What more could you want?
An Affair to Remember (1957) - This Cary Grant-Deborah Kerr classic is basically the third lead in Sleepless in Seattle, but it is a New Year’s classic in its own right, as Kerr and Grant’s characters vow to meet on the top of the Empire State building after an epic New Year’s Kiss.
Entrapment (1999) - There’s just something about thieves and New Year’s, I guess, as the final job in this Sean Connery-Catherine Zeta Jones film is set on Y2K. There’s also a good bit of bonus millenium Christmas content.
Snoopy Presents: For Auld Lang Syne (2021, Apple TV+) - A kid-friendly New Year's Eve watch the whole family can enjoy. Apple is doing a fantastic job of preserving the Peanuts legacy with their new holiday specials.
Holiday (1938) - Another Cary Grant classic that features a memorable New Year’s Eve. Even though the “holiday” of the title refers to a vacation, it’s on New Year’s Eve that sparks really begin to fly between Grant and Katherine Hepburn. Trouble is, she’s his fiancee’s sister.
After the Thin Man (1936) - This sequel to the runaway 1934 hit kicks off on New Year’s Eve, with James Stewart joining Myrna Loy and William Powell for more mystery solving slapstick antics.
Red, White & Royal Blue (2023, Prime Video) - Based on the book of the same name, this delightful rom-com’s President’s son-meets-Prince romance really gets going at a New Year’s Eve party, following fitful Thanksgiving-Christmas flirting via text.
In Search of a Midnight Kiss (2007) - This independent dark-ish, rom-com can be a little hard to find, but it’s worth seeking out. Two lonely people looking for hope and love by New Year’s Eve.
Ghostbusters II (1989) - Definitely less than the original classic, this holiday-set sequel concludes with New Yorker’s saving the city via a chorus of Auld Lang Syne, with an assist from Lady Liberty.
Boogie Nights (1997) - Definitely not an uplifting New Year’s Eve watch, this Paul Thomas Anderson classic does feature outstanding performances and an unforgettable New Year’s Eve party appearance by William H Macy.
Rudolph’s Shiny New Year (1976, ABC) - Not the only animated New Year’s special, but easily the most memorable, this Rankin-Bass classic has Rudolph teaming up with Baby New Year and Father Time to save the holiday.
More to Explore…
If my New Year’s picks don’t make your ball drop, there’s plenty more movies/specials set around welcoming the new year.
Happy New Year (2014) - This bouncy, Bollywood showstopper is available on Netflix.
New Year’s Eve (2011) - This farly-cynical Garry Marshall attempt to recreate the holiday anthology magic of Love, Actuallyshouldn’t even be mentioned in the same breath as that film, but this mess of a movie can still be fairly good fun when watched ironically with enough wine and the right friends.
Happy New Year, Charlie Brown (1986, CBS) - Nowhere near as iconic as the 1960s Peanuts specials, this is still a solid, kid-friendly New Year’s watch.
Pete the Cat: A Groovy New Year (2017, Amazon Prime) - Hep cat animated special based on the popular children’s book character.
200 Cigarettes (1999) - Set in the 1980s, this follows a group of young New Yorkers looking for a memorable New Year’s Eve.
Snowpiercer (2013) - The Chris Evans dystopian thriller where civilization is relegated to an always moving train, strictly divided by class, and New Year’s is celebrated every time they circumnavigate the globe.
Highball (1997) - This very early, extremely low budget Noah Baumbach movie takes place over a series of holiday parties that culminates with a New Year’s Eve bash. Is it good? Well, Baumbach petitioned to have his name removed from it, so…
Waiting to Exhale (1995) - This movie about a close-knit friend group and their complicated romantic lives, based on the book by Terry McMillan, is framed by New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Four Rooms (1995) - This overly ambitious anthology, featuring four stories each written and directed by a different high profile auteur, with only one connecting character, a hotel bellman, takes place entirely on New Year’s Eve.
Ocean’s Eleven (1960) - The Rat Pack original isn’t as fun as the George Clooney-Brad Pitt remakes, but it does set its heist on New Year’s Eve.
The Sword in the Stone (1963) - This Disney animated classic’s pivotal moment—the extraction of Excalibur—occurs at the New Year’s tournament, which Arthur attends as a lowly squire.
The Godfather Part II (1972) - Fredo Corleone is handing out New Year’s party kisses in this, the only sequel to ever win the best picture Oscar.
Midnighters (2017) - When a couple accidentally hit a man with their car on New Year’s Eve, they put him in the backseat and go home to avoid the consequences.
Radio Days (1987) - This Woody Allen (yeah, I know) movie ends with the cast welcoming 1944 on a wintry New York, New Year’s Eve.
Repeat Performance (1947) - A New Year’s Eve wish to repeat the year comes true, but fixing mistakes made proves more difficult than Joan Leslie imagined.
Sunset Boulevard (1950) - The iconic tale, later turned into a Broadway musical, hinges on a New Year’s Eve party.
A Midnight Kiss (2018, Hallmark) - Carlos PenaVega helps Adelaide Kane plan a New Year’s bash.
Royal New Year’s Eve (2017, Hallmark) - Designer Jessy Schram meets her Prince at a New Year’s ball.
The Birthday Wish (2017, Hallmark) - This is another Jessy Schram-joint that starts at New Year’s and is one of the more original Hallmark movies of recent years.
A New Year’s Resolution (2021, Hallmark) - This long-delayed Aimee Teegarden and Michael Rad movie finally got an airdate in early 2021.
Midnight at the Magnolia (2020, Netflix) - Natalie Hall and Evan Williams are radio hosts who fake a romance for a New Year’s Eve live show.
A Year and Change (2015) - Bryan Greenberg topples off a roof at a New Year’s Eve party, leading him to change his life.
The Gold Rush (1925) - For those who like their New Year’s celebrations extra-classic, this iconic Charlie Chaplin outing features the Little Tramp all alone on New Year’s Eve.
Two Lovers (2008) - This little-known Joaquin Phoenix-Gwenyth Paltrow movie culminates on New Year’s Eve.
Strange Days (1995) - Kathryn Bigelow’s sci-fi/romance prominently features a plot pivotal New Year’s Eve party.
Hudsucker Proxy (1994) - Some have called this critically-panned Tim Robbins movie It’s a Wonderful Life for New Year’s Eve. It even features Charles Durning as an angel.
Poseidon (2006) - This overly serious remake was a box office flop, but it’s still a big, dumb New Year’s Eve disaster flick. Just be careful it’s extra-long run time doesn’t make you miss the ball drop.
Money Train (1995) - This heist film starring Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson (remember when those guys were leading men and action stars?) has these former cops robbing the NYC subway on New Year’s Eve.
Are We There Yet? (2005) - Ice Cube’s original road trip comedy takes place on New Year’s Eve.
Carol (2015) - It’s a New Year’s Eve party that lets these repressed ladies first turn their passion loose.
Phantom Thread (2017) - Not mostly about the holiday, but does feature one of the most visually stunning New Year’s Eve parties ever committed to film.
New Year’s Evil (1980) - It wouldn’t be a holiday without a bad slasher film taking place on it.
Sex and the City: The Movie (2008) - The ladies celebrate a very memorable New Year’s Eves in this movie, based on the HBO series.
A Frozen New Year’s Eve (2019) - Direct-to-VOD animated kids’ movie
Dr Who: The Movie (1996, BBC) - The Time Lord takes on the millennium in this made-for-TV movie.
New Year’s Day (1989) - This little known movie is David Duchovny’s first major role. He plays a man who moves to L.A. on New Year’s Eve, only to find his newly-rented apartment occupied by three women.
A Long Way Down (2014) - Four strangers meet on a rooftop on New Year’s Eve, each contemplating jumping.
Endings, Beginnings (2020) - This Shailene Woodley-starring movie features a love triangle that begins at a fateful New Year’s Eve party.
Do It Yourself, Mr. Bean (1994, ITV) - Mr. Bean plans a New Year’s bash in this ITV special.
A Month in Thailand (2012) - This Romanian film follows a man in the time between Christmas and New Year’s trying to decide if he should pursue the ex who broke his heart, or stick with his current adoring girlfriend.
The Shining (1980) - This bleak, wintery horror classic wouldn’t be the most uplifting way to celebrate New Year’s Eve, but its plot pivotal NYE party photo certainly makes it seasonally appropriate if you’re looking to scream in the New Year.
Age of Adaline (2015) - This very weird movie starring Harrison Ford and Blake Lively begins at a New Year’s Eve party, with the holiday holding other significance in the story.
New Year, New You (2018, Hulu) - New Year’s entry in the Blumhouse-produced horror, holiday anthology movie series.
What for New Year’s Eve? (2018, a.k.a. Cosa Fai a Capodanno?) - This Italian comedy-drama from writer-director Filippo Bologna recently became available in the U.S. and explores what happens when a group of friends decide to switch partners at a New Year’s Eve party.
Midnight Kiss (2019, Hulu) - more holiday-set horror from Blumhouse.
New Year’s Kiss (2019) - Made-for-TV rom-com starring Erin Karpluk and Robin Dunne.
Way Through Snow (2017) - Russian movie about an online couple meeting for the first time on New Year’s, available on Amazon Prime.
Break (2019) - Russian horror-thriller directed by Tigran Shakyan about group of friends who get stuck in a gondola during a New Year’s Eve power outage.
I Hate New Year’s (2020) - LGBTQ holiday rom-com about a singer who goes home for the holidays and (surprise!) finds unexpected romance, made by TelloFilms.com.
The Lost Husband (2020) - Gentle romantic, Texas-set drama that’s not full of holiday cheer, but does start on New Year’s Eve, if you’re looking for a low stakes way to ring in the New Year.
The Silver Skates (2021, Netflix) - This sweeping Russian romantic epic, a lavish costume drama filmed in St. Petersburg, is set around the holidays, namely New Year’s, and is Netflix’s first-ever Russian-language international original.
All My Friends Are Dead (2021, Netflix) - Polish horror-comedy set at a New Year’s Eve party that takes an unexpected turn.
Prime Time (2021, Netflix) - Polish-language hostage thriller set on New Year’s Eve 1999.
Ask Me to Dance (2022) - Rom-com set between Christmas and New Year’s when a fortune teller promises two strangers they’ll meet their true love by midnight on New Year’s Eve.
Stuck with You (2022, Netflix) - French romance about strangers stuck in an elevator on their way to a New Year’s Eve party.
Terror Train 2 (2022, Tubi) - Tubi original slasher sequel set during a New Year’s Eve train ride.
Snow Falls (2023) - The New Year’s Eve horror movie about a group of friends trapped by snow in a remote cabin stars Hallmark regular Jonathan Bennett.
To Catch a Killer (2023) - Shailene Woodley plays a troubled cop trying to catch a New Year’s Eve killer.
New Year, New Us (2019) - A newlywed couple overcomes challenges in their marriage with New Year’s resolutions.
New Year, New Us 2: Love Goals (2023) - Sequel to New Year, New Us
Sealed with a List (2023) - Hallmark holiday romance about undone resolutions that concludes on New Year's Eve
Christmas ➜ New Year’s
And don’t forget to consider these movies that carry over from Christmas to New Year’s, giving us a solid dose of both holidays.
Rent (2005)
Bridget Jones’s Diary* (2001)
Last Holiday** (2006)
Holiday Inn (1942)
The Holiday*** (2006)
Sleepless In Seattle (1993)
Trading Places (1983)
While You Were Sleeping (1995)
Bachelor Mother (1939)
Bundle of Joy (1956, a remake of Bachelor Mother)
The Apartment (1960)
A Christmas Prince (2017, Netflix)
Holidate***** (2020, Netflix)
Starstruck***** (2021, HBO Max)
About Fate (2022)
Ask Me to Dance (2022)
Something from Tiffany’s (2022, Prime Video)
*If I hadn’t already dubbed Bridget my all-time favorite stealth Christmas movie, I’d have put it on my New Year’s list for sure, probably at No. 1, since Jones’s New Year’s resolutions bookend the film, which actually starts on New Year’s Day (when she meets Darcy at her mom’s annual turkey curry buffet). Really, it’s a pretty perfect New Year’s watch and an annual in between Christmas and New Year’s must-view in our house.
**As with Bridget, Last Holiday would be at or near the top of my New Year’s favorites, if I hadn’t already dubbed it one of my favorite Christmas films. But, while it takes place over the entire Christmas season, much more happens on New Year’s in this Queen Latifah classic, than Christmas, and it’s a great way to spend any New Year’s Eve.
***And the same goes for The Holiday, which is mostly Christmas, but culminates on New Year’s Eve, the only part of the film where all four leads share a scene.
****Yet another that would be at or near the top of my New Year’s list, if it weren’t already on my Top 25 Stealth Christmas Movies list, as the New Year’s Eve in Holidate was among its best, and most memorable, moments.
*****Starstruck takes the opposite tack of the rest of this list, starting on New Year’s Eve and ending at Christmas.
TV Series Standouts
While Thanksgiving and Christmas-themed episodes of TV series abound, the timing of New Year’s, coming when most shows are on hiatus, means there are only a few truly iconic television episodes devoted to this holiday. A handful worth noting…
Mum: December (2016, BBC, series 1)
Absolutely Fabulous: Happy New Year (1995, BBC, series 3)
Dr. Who: Resolution (2019, BBC)
On My Block: Chapter Eleven (2019, Netflix)
My So-Called Life: Resolutions (1995, ABC, season 1)
The X-Files: Millennium (1999, FOX, season 7)
Futurama: Space Pilot 3000 (1999, FOX, pilot) - Like Matt Groening’s Christmas-themed Simpson’s pilot, this series intro could also be seen as a New Year’s Eve holiday special.)
That ‘70s Show: Finale (2006, FOX, season 8) -Though it aired in May, this series ender was set on New Year’s Eve 1979
Fraiser: RDWRER (2000, NBC, season 7)
30 Rock: Klaus and Greta (2010, NBC, season 4)
Friends: The One with the Monkey (1994, NBC, season 1)

How I Met Your Mother: The Limo (2005, CBS, season 1)
How I Met Your Mother: Tailgate (2012, CBS, season 7)
The Office: Ultimatum (2011, NBC, season 7)
Seinfeld: The Millennium (1997, NBC, season 8) - This one actually doesn’t take place at New Year’s, but is about a New Year’s Eve party

thank you for tagging me @cheolism <33
this will get put under a 'read more' after the first parts because this is going to be a bit long. thanks again for the tag jupie <333
taglist: @dalkyeom @seokmins @vcrnons and anyone else who wants to do it! no pressure <3
who is your favorite group(s)?
seventeen, tomorrow x together, and stray kids!
when did you discover them?
seventeen: november 2021 txt: ~april 2022 (<- does not fully remember) stray kids: august 2023
which member sparked your interest?
seventeen: hoshi! his insane energy and bright personality got me first, but then i saw the rest of his skills and got super impressed txt: hueningkai! he's just really soft and squishy and as an avid plushie collector myself i respect him so much stray kids: felix! he's adorable. he's got the freckles. he's a memelord. his voice is at the bottom of the ocean. come on.
who was your first bias?
seventeen: scoups! i loved his energy so much and also he's just super cool. well, now i know he's also a massive bbg but he still resides fondly in my heart txt: yeonjun! well, once you get past the massive denial phase i had over him. i'm pretty sure i was going 'ohi like them all equally!' and then vehemently deny any and all feelings i had for him. oops. i gave up on fighting it though stray kids: chan! i got exposed to meme videos of him first so there was no chance of me not liking him. he's cute, he's goofy, he gets bullied by everyone else as the long suffering dad/leader of the group, it's great
who is your current bias?
seventeen: vernon! he is also my brand for this blog. no one has me more down bad-atrocious-abysmal-astronomical for just some dude than he does. he's a walking meme. his expressions are either at 0 or 100 and i swear there's no in between. he casually does the most random things possible and is completely unbothered by it. he's winning the idgaf war. his fashion sense is questionable and his selfie skills are nonexistent. i love him anyways. i am fondly looking at the photocard i have of him on my desk. there's something wrong with me but at least i'm funny about it txt: still yeonjun. the denial phase over him has unfortunately massively endeared me to him. he's silly, he's cute, he's endearing, his forays into fashion are interesting to me. dear gods i just watched the "I played Omori After Losing My Daughter to Suicide" and I'm silently sobbing in my room
Omori is a game I've been heavily aware of since it came out, and i knew it handled mental health issues of some kind and that it was heavy and with horror aspects to it - i stayed away from it and spoilers because i wanted to try it for myself but I'm also not a fan of horror in general (even the Shadow temples in Zelda give a lot of scare jumps)but the video showed on my recommended and....gods
i have to admit the reasons i didn't go down the suicide route was because i didn't want to leave my siblings and i knew my parents would abandon them. and my dogs.
heh, kind of funny i didn't even think about how sad my parents would be because...would they? they don't express much of anything to us, and i honestly can't tell if they would be devastated in the right way. they would probably just blame each other, or ask my siblings if they knew and "reassure themselves" with a "well we never understood her anyways"
because that's another thing. even now after coming out as masc nb I'm still their daughter, because in Spanish, in our country, in their minds, it's either son or daughter and I'm neither. so even their memories of me would be ...wrong
idk is just, so fucking devastating realizing you legitimately can't tell how much your parents love you.
the comments of the video were a mix of parents that had gone through the same thing as OP, siblings who lost their oldest ones, or the children struggling with suicide or who are now young adults after it. but most share the idea of love and reassurance and ...i can't tell i didn't do it for my parents
my siblings yeah, but mostly out of spite because i didn't want to leave my siblings with my parents
and it's terrifying because now days I'm better, but the idea that you aren't really significant enough on anybody's life for your death to be impactful is heavy. and selfish in a twisted way, craving someone's love so much you want it to destroy them if taken away
anyways, i was still INCREDIBLY depressed afterwards, and the only thing that actually got me through was working on my thesis and imprinting on my thesis advisor Doctor. my 2020 and 2021 birthdays were just atrocious and made my dread for it still drag to this days. i tried to shift the emotions with scheduling my tip surgery 2 days before it on 2023. i hope it helps lol. i don't remember much for my 2022 birthday other than working at the sushi place for it and a party with a birthday-sake friend that she made
sigh
i needed to rant. I'm better. my head and chest hurt. I'm still very lost because idk what i want to do with my life. idk where to go. I'm exhausted. i don't feel I've properly rested. i want a positive, sudden change to take over my life. i want guidance. i want someone to hold my hand
gods I'm so lost...

Tw: antisemitism, racism, Nazis, invasion
So I've made a few posts talking about how the "Aces invade Denmark" and "world domination" jokes that have been circulating in the Ace community are harmful. I want to cover here what happened that lead to this.
What I'm writing here is based on "the Ace Couple" podcast episode "Aces DO NOT Invade Denmark!" that I referenced in my previous post here.
Around June 2021 on Reddit a there was a post (that has been deleted since, but was screenshot) that read:
It’s time for the Asexuals to invade Denmark. Let’s cut to the facts. It is estimated that 1% to 1.2% of the population is Asexual, which makes our ranks number about 75 million strong. The Danish forces only number about 92,000, which means we can easily overwhelm them. If we all mass in there, we can easily overthrow the Danish government and create the first Asexual state, free of hypersexualization and Acephobia. The time is now. We must rise up. Come to r/AsexualInvadeTheDanes, where the revolution will begin.
This subreddit exists and has, as of April 8th 2023, 7,000 members, and has posts from the last few days.
I remember seeing these memes and finding them quite funny. Aces are free to plan invasion because we aren't busy with things like sex! But, once I thought about it, I had a chance to see the dark side of it.
When you think about what the joke is about you realize, it's making light of colonization. It jokes about a country that had in the past been invaded by Nazis in WW2. Not a great look for us Aces.
The jokes subsided a little, after Russia invaded Ukraine. There seemed to have been an understanding that it was quite insensitive.
But, things took a turn for the worse during Ace week 2022. A Twitter flag mashup bot created a flag on October 27th, 2022. With the caption:
Special edition: Asexual pride + German Empire 1903 = Asexual Empire
The flag used the ace flag and in the middle had the Iron Cross.
This originated from a bot. If Aces had ignored it, we probably could move on. But unfortunately, that is not what happened. This post was very popular on Twitter amongst Aces who associated it with the invasion of Denmark, and was posted to Reddit as well. Many of the comments on this post, were referencing the invasion of Denmark, someone commented the “Asexual Reich”, and "Childlessness Reich".
This raises the question, how do we know these were Aces making these comments? Well, a lot of references to garlic bread, invasion of Denmark (that was not referenced in the tweet), and many wishes of happy pride, during Ace week. These are things unique to the community.
Now clearly, with the "Reich" references, people associated this flag with the Nazis, but I'll touch for a moment on the history of the Iron Cross.
According to Wikipedia:
The Iron Cross was a military decoration in the Kingdom of Prussia, and later in the German Empire (1871–1918) and Nazi Germany (1933–1945)
So originally it was a German symbol, and hadn't originated with the Nazis, but:
Hitler restored the Iron Cross in 1939 as a German decoration.
Clearly this is a Nazi symbol. Some of those who interacted with the tweet understood this and leaned in to it! Once our jokes get to Nazis, we have gone to far.
I'm absolutely not going to explain why Nazis are bad, and why we shouldn't be associated in anyway with them. If someone doesn't know, we have a serious problem.
But, I will remind everyone that Jewish Aces exist, that BIPOC Aces exist, that Danish Aces exist. These jokes are alienating us from the community, because they lead to antisemitism, and racism. Aces, we are better then this!

my personal good things of 2022 list
Made some banger art this year!! I took a bunch of skillshare classes to learn digital art better and I think it’s paid off. I remember wanting so badly to make digital art in the past but not having the resources and being intimidated by it. And look at me now, babey!
I’ve been having a great time watching JJBA with my girlfriend; it’s been insane and so much better than if I had watched it on my own
Tried a handful of new recipes! My homemade Irish soda bread was my fave but I enjoyed the other ones too
Absolutely loved continuing online yoga sessions from 2021 in the first few months of the year. I actually really missed it when it ended. I plan to get into doing more yoga next year
Went on a lot of solo adventures in the downtown core of my city, which felt very refreshing and just fun to do every once in a while
Made my first budget sheet 🥴 Just Adulting Things
ADORED Turning Red like seriously, that movie was like a love letter to me
Made my website and linktr.ee hell yeaaahhh. I was putting it off for a long time
Uploaded art to Redbubble and INPRNT!!
Finished reading soooo many amazing books this year, which was awesome. I love reading but reading constantly in school drained me last year, so I’m glad I got into a comfortable groove this year. Best book I read this year was Eat Up! by Ruby Tandoh, which was totally up my alley and very informative and wonderful to go through
KINGDOM HEARTS IV????? MISSING LINK??????
EPHEMERA HAS A BIG FAMILY (SOURCE: ME)
Got some of my work featured in different publications :^))
Volunteered at a food bank, which was really awesome. I got to work with lots of kind people and talk to the people who were just so grateful to be able to get free groceries for their families
Year of Spy x Family lol, it’s just such a feel-good anime to watch
[trigger warning for life-threatening surgery; hospital setting] June was a hard month, physically and emotionally. My dad had 3 heart surgeries, and thank goodness he’s much better now as a result of them. But I almost lost him. It’s something that continues to weigh heavy on me. The long commutes to visit him and stay with him in the hospital every day took a toll on my mom and I too, but there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to be there for him every step of the way. And I was.
Had a reunion with my high school band mates. We had so much fun chatting and drinking after a performance for our old band teacher’s retirement party
got hooked as shit on Legends Arceus, what a lovely game. It was everything I hoped for and more in a pokemon game and it was SO fun to play
Watched Amphibia omggg…it was so funny and heartfelt, and something I love going back to to just sit and relax to
Had an absolute banger of a day at Anime North with my friend. I got such a good merch haul
Dark Road gave me psychic damage but it was awesome. Completely changed my outlook on Xehanort and now I find myself wanting more of him
Helped my friend buy furniture from IKEA for her new apartment. It was a pain to get all of it up to the 10th floor but fulfilling in its own way 💅 Just Adult Things
Saw a bunch of cute ducks at the park!!!! It literally can’t get better than this 🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆
Finally started publishing A Light That Never Goes Out. I’ve been having a great time writing it and filling in some sections I had written already in the past
Had my make-up graduation in person (as opposed to online) which was nice :)
Overall, a great year. I had a lot of struggles and days where I could’ve done more, but I also tried a lot of new things, helped a lot of people, and made lots of good memories. Fingers crossed that 2023 brings more of that positivity!!

F/O # 1:
January 19, 2021 was when I finished his route in the game he's in for the first time! I've taken a BIG interest in him way back in 2017 but was too broke and didn't have the motivation to farm game currency at the time, so I eventually gave up.
Fast forward to being in the middle of lockdown I one day remembered him and the game he's in and I was so determined even after the price of unlocking the mode his route is in got higher
Selfshipping with him had its own ups and downs, on the first year I was questioning and looking for labels that describe my identity, was learning how to handle the jealousy of having to see so much oc/self-insert x canon with him even after blocking accounts and filtering tags. I even see one who selfships with him a lot have an actual wedding + commission artists left and right so I moved to a different f/o for a while before coming back to him. (What took me back: the first post I see of him one day is a drawing of him phonecalling mc/the player saying 'I love you' to them and bc I get some 'signs' or 'pretty specific stuff that almost feel like it's him making me see those' every now and then, it just fed into my delulu-ness)
Then around late 2022-2023 I started commissioning art and writing of him ✨
(Adding this here, I've also drawn him a lot and was my main source of motivation to draw for a long long while. One day maybe I can finally use a picture of him and stare at it without getting too flustered and end up not drawing anything)
Right now I still do love him even if it isn't as intense. I still think of him as my main f/o and he'd still be the first one I'd propose to if he magically became real. Some stuff happened for a year which made me constantly feel unloved by him but that's on me for not doing much about it either (or lack of energy idk)
He's pretty much my partner still and I still yearn to one day get so much merch of him
But yea anyways!
F/O # 2:
I had a MASSIVE crush on him back in 2015-2016. I even made my first OC because of him. I don't really make much stuff for that OC and don't anymore but last year I got a little interested in him again and plan to read fics of him sometime. I bought the game he is in which was what 2016 me has always wanted and because is was on sale. I now have another F/O from the same source but I still adore this F/O a lot as well. He's still full of secrets.
And another game he is in makes me smile whenever he says something funny. I playfully glare at the screen whenever he messes with the character the player is controlling because of course he would do Thing but of course I didn't expect it anyway.
Currently saving up and looking for artists to commission, have drawn selfship art of him like twice (excluding my really old arts of him and my OC from back then).
F/O #3:
My first f/o from when I was like 5 and didn't know what selfshipping was. He pops up in my mind every now and then, especially lately, and I have Ideas for writing and drawing for him. I can't find much fanart and fics of him anywhere though unfortunately. But might as well practice art and writing by making stuff about him!
F/O #4:
So like, they're like 3-in-1
Typing's starting to get a bit tiring but I've adored them since early 2022! Early 2024 was when I saw and animatic of them proposing to y/n which was super sweet, f/o #1 got a wedding illustration mid-2023 and like idk, I'm considering just making an au with f/O's 1 and 4 where I smooch them all in the same world I keep getting signs from posts I see skdjdb 💖
a special shout-out for selfshippers who have been loving their f/o(s) for years !! 🤍
you guys are truly one of the best kinds of people out there! your dedication and your overwhelming love for them are very admirable and inspiring.
loving someone so deeply that you stayed with them for years and still madly in love with each other through thick and thin. ♡
how long have you been in love with your f/o? tell us your story! (人*´∀`)。*゚+
rbs encouraged!! ♡♡
