He then goes back to the rocks he had previously scaled, and hopped over them with just as much smoothness.

Carrying a heavy bag and not as well versed in this kind of thing, you slowly follow after as he leads you in, walking a more than decent few paces away from the river when he seems to find his spot.

He tosses the mermaid to the ground with a 'Thump!' before he reaches into his own bag, much smaller than yours as he pulls out some stakes and a few ropes, forming a makeshift pully system which he sinks the stakes into the bottom of the fish tail, you hearing the crunch of bone as he makes sure it's secure in place before going to a tree and looping it around the branch, hauling up the mermaid with some hefty tugs.

" Alright, since you seem so interested, we can watch while the Forest takes it's feast."

You ask him how that won't put the two of you in danger, and he simply smiles and in the bag fishes out a cloak, passing it over his hand and making it disappear.

A cloak of invisibility.

You ask where he acquired such a rare and fine piece of fabric, but he simply shrugs with a smile.

" I've had this for a long while, though I entrusted it to the wrong person and lost it to a certain someone for a while. I've just recently re-acquired it." He smiled radiantly, " We're going to have to be in close quarters for a bit, but I think it would be worth it if you truly wish to see how nature works."

He pointed to a tree across from the swinging body, a tree with multiple branches jutting out in a way there was a bowl of wood made from it, perfect to sit in as Briar moved up into it, wrapping the cloak around him as he reached down to your hand.

After a beat, you reached to him, your hands connecting as he hauled you safely up into his lap, perching you there and helping drape the two of you, safely hidden from the world.

It takes only a little while before the smell of the mermaid begins to permeate the air, and true to his word, the forest came to collect.

The first came in the form of a six foot nightmare, a Nandi Bear, as shown by it's spotted coat and short snout as it prowled to the corpse.

And true to it's diet, you got to watch in morbid fascination as it cracked open the skull, devouring the brains before leaving it missing the top of it's head, scraped absolutely clean, along with some chunks of it's fish tail after a curious nibble.

" Funny... This is a bit shallower in the forests than usual for them." Briar muttered, though for the record you didn't think it was funny at all.

The next to arrive looked to be a large black cat, a Cath Palug, which surveyed the hanging body of the mermaid- it's remains anyways- for a couple of beats before a gust of wind caused it to sway.

The large cat spread it's paws, it's pupils blowing wide before it took swipes at the mermaid, batting it around in a manner that one would almost call adorable if it wasn't for the claws flaying the remains as it batted it around before it seized the body with it's front paws and used the back paws to scratch at the flesh, chomping it playfully as you hear the steady beat of Briar's heart behind your head.

After it was done swatting it around, it pulled and pulled before the tail broke apart with a sickening crunch, the Cath Palug pulling the creature into it's jaws before dragging it off.

You both waited for a substantial time before Briar pulled the cloak off the two of you with a content sigh.

Danny commits to the Bit a bit too hard...

So! For the first few weeks after his accident, whenever Danny would try to help the people of Amity Park, he would be treated as a Villain.

No matter if he had just defeated the Big Bad of the Week or saved a Cat from a tree, everybody in town only saw him as a Monster or Villain to he feared and hunted down. Danny was really getting sick of trying to get them on his side, until Sam made a suggestion.

"Why not just...play into it?" She said, barely looking up from painting her nails.

It was just an offhand suggestion, but it stuck with Danny. Why shouldn't he lean into it? The people of Amity Park already saw Ghosts as Evil, and they already assumed he was in cahoots with the Ghosts attacking the town. Why shouldn't he just...play into it?

So he does just that.

From that day on, whenever Phantom was spotted he would dramatically monologue about his Evil Plans, or claim that another Rogues attack on the City was his own act of terror.

Box Ghost destroys the towns Warehouses? It was on his orders.

Ember mind controls masses of Teenagers? All part of his Plans somehow.

Every Adult in Town is kidnapped by Young Blood? Danny gave them over to a friend as a Gift.

He crafts an identity for himself as the most Vile and Horrible Ghost that has ever attacked the City, using his own infamy to cement his legend even more firmly. The town only sees a Monsterous Villain, who has eveded capture near effortlessly for months on end, who constantly attacks their City and gets away with it.

Of course he still needs an excuse for how his plans keep getting stopped, and he gets it when his girlfriend Valerie becomes the Red Huntress. Before that, he just claimed infighting or the Fentons getting lucky, but Valerie becoming the Town's Hero meant he had a plausible excuse for how he kept getting "Foiled".

Val was suspicious, because she was not as involved as Phantom painted her to be, but in the end she had no proof of him faking his defeats. And she couldn't come up with any explanations for why he would do that in the first place. I mean, who would fake being a Supervillain? It had to he something else.

This did come back to bite him a while later, when the Justice League decided that enough was enough, and dispatched Justice League Dark to recruit Red Huntress and help Deal with him.

Coincidentally, that was the same day Pariah Dark attacked the Mortal Realm and sucked Amity Park into the Ghost Zone.

And honestly? Danny had spent over a Year proclaiming himself as a Villain who commanded Ghosts to attack the Human Realm, and he had heard about the Right of Conquest being Absolute in the Ghost Zone, so why not make it official? Why not overthrow the Ghost King, become the Ghost King, and cement his identity as a Villain while also forbidding Ghosts from entering the Human Realm without his permission?

He may have gotten a bit carried away and forgotten that the Villain thing was a disguise...but hey! He was still preventing Ghost Attacks! ...mostly. That's got to count for something right?

He may have let the Bit run a bit too far...

once again thinking about jason as duke’s robin. he’s ~4 years younger than jason, and that puts him at 8-12 during Jason’s time as robin. that’s prime time to get attached to your local kid vigilante before your own life goes downhill.

and if we try to keep duke’s meeting with bruce in zero year + duke’s age (so he can remember the meeting and hold that conversation with bruce), he has to be around 8. if he starts following batman through the news at that time because of the mess that just happened, the robin he sees is probably jason. I’ve literally connected the dots

I do think Blazing Saddles handled its one depiction of native americans very poorly, and the full extent of its representation of chinese workers on the railroad is they were literally just there. not even one single speaking line. unclear if this is worse or better than the redface.

it's fucking phenomenal at lampooning antiblack racism though. extremely blatant, extremely funny satire, which is constantly and loudly saying "racism is the philosophy of the terminally stupid at best and morally depraved at worst, and we should all be pointing and laughing at them 24/7"

plus the main character is a heroic black man who has to navigate a whole lot of bullshit but is constantly smirking at the extraordinarily stupid racists and inviting the audience into the joke. the one heroic white character is a guy who was suicidally depressed until he met the protagonist and they just instantly became buds, and he's firmly in a supporting role the whole time and happy to be there. the protagonist saves the day with the help of his black friends from the railroad, and uses the position of power he was given to uplift not only those friends, but all the railroad workers of other minorities too, in an explicit show of solidarity.

anyone saying "Blazing Saddles is racist" had better be talking about its treatment of non-black minorities. it had better not be such superficial takes as "oh but they say the n-word all the time" or "they have nazis and the kkk in there!" because goddamn if that's the full extent of your critique I very seriously suggest you read up on media analysis. there is too much going over your head, you need to learn to recognize satire.
