Nice dig at AI there at the end, but this has nothing to do with AI. It actually has to do with adobe pulling a major CYA move.
Now AI has something to do with it, but not with the use, more the existence. AI makes it easier to say, make porn of famous people. But you could already do that with Adobe products, such as photoshop. People have. You could draw it. Or, in that regard, you could use adobe products to draw fanart.
Which, I should point out, is illegal. But the legal realm has long treated the products used in the production of infringing content as a non-factor. They treat it the way you'd treat analog methods. If you draw a picture of spiderman on a piece of paper, Disney isn't going to sue the paper and pencil manufacturers.
The world of service based products has changed this dynamic. Now, because lawmakers want to do things like, say, ban apps and the like, that opens the door to saying 'people who provide services that allow for this content to be made are possibly liable.' That's how they took down Megaupload; the charge, not unfairly, that it was a giant hub of pirated content.
So now, people are going to say, 'adobe products allow people to create and distribute copyrighted material. Adobe isn't like a pen and paper, it's more like a publisher, a printing machine that allows for endless copyrighted forgeries.'
Would that hold up in court? Probably not. But what they're actually liable for doesn't matter as much as what they believe they're liable for. So rather than take the risk, they've decided to just spy on all their customers, put cut the arbitration time in half, and also given themselves the right to prevent you from using their software.
And that's not too much different from the increasing desire of lawmakers to demand that say, tiktok, doesn't exist on your phones. How do they enforce that? Spyware.
And it won't stop there because actually enforcing ToS is much harder than just saying it. For example, let's say that the government wanted to fine Tumblr for anyone who was underage that accessed the site. The only way to ensure that didn't happen would be if every user provided proof of identification to be checked by the government. Some on the American right have been demanding this for years to stop 'bots' but anyone with a brain can see how that would probably be used. They like the Chinese system of everything being linked to central government servers.
And of course, that's worked out so well for women in America whose period apps are now being looked at in order to prosecute them if it looks like they had an abortion.
My point is that Adobe doing this isn't because 'adobe wants to know everything you're doing because they're creepy weirdos.' They're doing it because they probably correctly foresee that the next step in the internet's development is that anyone who provides the ability for people to violate the law online will be liable.
It's a shift from the liability being only on the end user and being on the companies themselves. Again, this is exactly why various nsfw content providers are being hit by new restrictions, because Visa and Mastercard don't want to be associated with them. But they also don't want to be liable if the laws shift so that facilitating payments becomes illegal too.
Buckle up people. The corporations are not simply looking to stop you from selling content. They want to stop you from creating it in the first place. And probably will then try to sell you a license to do it.
Adobe is going to spy on your projects. This is insane.

Sorry about my last ask. I meant to say fan game templates like Sonic Worlds or HedgePysics. I was just complaining about how anyone with basic unity skills and a grungy notebook full of “game ideas” can stick a game together in under a couple of days with little to no effort. (Sonic Adventure Blast comes to mind.) I know it’s one of the most pointless things to complain about. (In fact it’s probably the only way to improve.) but at the same time you should have a little bit of quality control.
(This is a follow-up to this)
This is an age old push and pull that’s been going on for many years. Somebody makes a cool thing, they have the ability to release it open source or whatever, but oh wait no, what if someone uses it to make something generic, or even BAD? We can’t let that happen!
It is nobody’s job to judge what is worthy of a good template or good assets. By trying to prevent what some would call “bad,” it’s also making it more difficult for that thing to be used in something good.
Game development is a learning process. You don’t learn overnight. There’s an anecdote that I think is attributed to Leonardo DaVinci (or some famous artist) where they find him quickly sketching something on to a napkin out of boredom. A woman asks him if she can have that drawing, and he says “Sure, that’ll be $1000.” The woman reacts in shock! That doodle took him ten minutes! Surely it’s worthless! The artist responds, “It took my entire life to learn how to draw that in ten minutes.”
Do you know what one of my first games was? I’ve mentioned it on this blog before, but I modified the TI-82 version of Drugwars. I reverse-engineered the game using my TI-82 instruction manual to look up the functions. Eventually I had taken Drugwars and completely re-written almost the entire game in to a functional Final Fantasy text RPG. It was the first real coding I ever did.
If I wasn’t able to peek at the source code for Drugwars, research functions in the instruction manual, and use that to learn, who knows where I’d be today.
Today’s low-effort hack of an existing template could be something impressive in a few weeks, or a few months, or a few years. The important thing is giving the tools to those who may benefit from them. Not just to the select few that show promise today, but to everyone who may need them, now or ever. Don’t exclude people, help them grow.
You will absolutely get people who don’t understand, who put in the bare minimum of effort, but no matter how many walls you put up, those people will always be there in some way shape or form. Adobe Photoshop used to cost multiple hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. It was intended for professional production studios. It is a massively complex piece of software. Barriers did not stop the average joe from pirating the software and being thoroughly confused by it.
Now think of the thousands of amazing digital artists that also probably started out being confused by Photoshop.
Adobe is a business, so they still have to sell Photoshop for some amount of money (which is now about $20 a month). When it comes to something like Hedge Physics or Sonic Worlds Delta, though, why would you ever consider limiting anyone’s access to something so important? Because it inconveniences you? Spending years learning this stuff from scratch is a hundred times more inconvenient. The whole point of teaching a person how to do something is so they don’t have to start from scratch and we can build upon an existing knowledge base. Being able to learn and to seek out learning is one of the most powerful things about the entire human race, and it’s not a privilege only granted to those who already seem intelligent. It’s for everyone.
Also, Sonic Adventure Blast absolutely took way longer than you think, and way more effort than you think (here’s a reddit thread mentioning it was in development as far back as 2017). Again, the effort you see isn’t the history of learning that may have taken place. Don’t make those kinds of assumptions.

Music Editing Software For Mac
Default Image Editing Software Mac Pro
Adobe Photoshop Photo, image, and design editing software 12-month Subscription with auto-renewal, billed monthly, PC/Mac by Adobe Platform: Mac OS Sierra 10.12, Windows 7. The downside of PhotoScape X is a lack of selection tools, so all changes are applied to the whole image rather than to a selected part. Gimp (Free) Gimp is a free open-source photo editing app that has been on the market for over 22 years and is available for Windows, Mac, and even Linux. Cinepaint is a good image editing software for MAC with a very simple interface. It provides a number of options to edit image on MAC. Different selection options are available, like: rectangular select, elliptical select, hand drawn region select, continuous regions, select using Bezier curves, and select shapes from image.
Wd my cloud for mac software. My Cloud; My Book; Internal Drives / SSDs; WD Elements / WD easystore; Embedded & Removable Flash. Western Digital SSD Dashboard. Software for Mac GoodSync for WD. Install WD Discovery for Mac. WD Drive Utilities for Mac. WD Security for Mac.
Many of us still keep our main libraries on our Macs because of its faster processors, larger storage, and all-around bigger computing power. The Mac is still the best device for serious photo editing, so you need some serious photo editing apps to make an impact.
The built-in Photos app on Mac offers several useful photo editing tools. You can crop, adjust lighting and color, set the white balance, add filters, remove unwanted blemishes, and a few more things. However, in all honesty? It's not really meant to be a robust editing app, so If you are looking for something to really finish your photos right, we've got a list of the best photo editors for Mac right here. Let's go!
Affinity Photo
If you're looking for a photo editing app that goes above and beyond for the pricetag, while still allowing you complete creative control over your images, then it might be worth it to take a peek at Affinity Photo.
Affinity Photo supports unlimited layers, groups, layer adjustments, filters, masking, and more: you also have access to tools like dodge, red-eye fix, burn, blemish, clone, and patch (so pretty much Photoshop without all the convoluted bells and whistles). Nondestructive auto-saving makes undoing everything you've done easy, so if you need to start from the beginning, the option is there.
Play, manipulate, edit, and get hella creative with Affinity Photo whether you're a serious graphic designer or someone who's just looking to do some basic editing. Your photography will seriously thank you.

With this photo editor, you can easily adjust contrast and color of more washed-out photos, add borders, tilt and shift your images, add different text, slap on a few filters, and so much more, all from the easy-to-find toolbox on the right side of the app. You can even create collages of your photography masterpieces!
The BBC once called Fotor Photo Editor 'light Photoshop', and they're kind of right! You can go above and beyond editing your images with Fotor Photo Editor without getting bogged down by more complicated editing buttons and tools.
Free - Download now
Lightroom
When you look into photo editing software, one of the first things that'll pop up is Adobe's Lightroom, and for good reason! It's essentially a staple in the photo editing community.
Lightroom is great for photographers who need to manage a large image library, and who are prepared to commit to (and pay for) Adobe's cloud storage space. But it is purely a photography tool that's a little outside the regular Adobe design ecosystem. (Creative Bloq)
Pretty much anything you want to do with your photo, you can accomplish with Lightroom. You can blend and merge shadows and highlights, sharpen dull, blurry images so they look crisp and clear, add details and tint colors to make a photo stand out, and so, so much more.
Calendar app free. Jun 30, 2020  Similar ransomware was found in other pirated apps, and Mac users can avoid it by staying away from pirated apps and untrustworthy websites. Mar 31, 2018  Question: Q: Siri Found in Apps - Calendar On my calendar, I've noticed there is an appointment that I am not aware of it. Further check, realised it was created by 'Siri Found in Apps' (click on the 'Calendars' on the bottom of the screen). In the Calendar app on your Mac, choose Calendar Preferences, click Advanced, then select “Turn on time zone support.” See Use different time zones. If you want to change events on a published calendar, but you deleted the calendar, re-create the calendar with all. Oct 07, 2018  Apple’s Calendar. Of all the calendar apps on macOS, Apple’s built-in calendar is probably the most widely used. It’s built into every Mac, and it syncs with iCloud, Google Calendar, Yahoo. In the Calendar app on your Mac, click the calendar’s name in the calendar list. If you don’t see the calendar list on the left, choose View Show Calendar List. Choose Edit Delete. Some calendars can’t be deleted. You can’t delete delegated calendars, but you can stop showing them in the main Calendar window. See Share calendar.
While it is a bit more on the complicated side, people who use the program and know how to navigate it are hooked. Keep in mind, there are two versions of the app — there's the Classic version, which is more preferred, and the 2018 CC version.
If you're hesitant about the program and paying for it, you can download Lightroom free for 30 days as part of a trial period. After that, you can add it to your Photoshop CC subscription for $9.99 per month.

Pixelmator
Amp up your photo editing skills with a little bit of help from Pixelmator!
This particular photo editing app allows you to combine two different photos into one (while still allowing you to edit over each layer), add shapes, gradients, filters, tints, and more, and completely change and edit your photography to make it fit perfectly to your aesthetic. You can even mask and cut off certain areas of the photo, giving you more creative control over your final image.
Similar to other photo editing apps, you can also adjust contrast, color, saturation level, definition, and so much more.
It's another great alternative to Photoshop, at least according to our managing editor Lory Gil.
$29.99 - Download now
GIMP
Love Photoshop (or the idea of Photoshop..) but don't want all the complicated components and nonsense that comes along with it? Then it might be worth it to take a peek at GIMP.
Similar to Photoshop, GIMP allows you full control over editing your photos: it's an advanced image manipulation program with detailed customization for color reproduction.
You can add layers to your photos, edit and tweak colors, adjust contrast, crop, adjust saturation, and so much more. If you're someone who admires Photoshop but is terrified of the price (or just thinks it's not worth it) then GIMP might be the perfect pal for you.
Free - Download now
Snapheal
Say 'bye-bye' to nasty photobombs, zits, perky distractions, and so much more in your photos thanks to Snapheal!
Snapheal is a little bit unique in the sense that it's more of a 'delete now, ask questions later' app. It's more about cleaning up a photo than it is editing it and adding a whole bunch of layers. The tools can either remove large objects or smaller imperfections depending on the mode. You can even adjust the masking tool, use a magic rope, or clone stamp your way to a new photo.
If you're someone who's a perfectionist when it comes to your photography and you just can't stand that one stupid, distracting blur in the background, then Snapheal is the guy for you.

Photography Editing Software For Mac
Preview
I know what you're thinking: 'Preview? Really, Cella?'
To which I respond: 'Uh, yeah. Duh, my dude. You use it every day!'
Sure, you can't do a bunch of fancy things with Preview like add filters, adjust contrast, and fix saturation, but you can quickly crop a photo, adjust the color, rotate it, add shapes, texts, and a signature, export as a different format, and more.
Yes, Preview isn't perfect, but it is easy to use and fantastic for making small, fast changes to your photography.
It's already on your Mac.
How do you edit your photography?
What is your favorite photo editing app for the Mac? Why does it work the best for you? Let us know what your top picks are in the comments down below!

New EU regulations target App Store, empowering developers
The EU has introduced new regulations and measures to help protect developers and publishers who deal with storefronts like the App Store.
Everyone knows that MacOS is the best platform for image editing, but finding the right software isn’t so clear. Photoshop is the default choice, but the insane pricing can put it outside the budget for a huge number of people.
There are quite a few free or low cost options, but it can be tough to narrow down between them. After all, some online tools (like Pixlr) are just as effective as the lower-end editing applications available through the App Store.
These tools are our picks for the best free and low cost photo editors for Mac.
GIMP (Download)
GIMP is the closest free tool to Photoshop, but comes with a steep learning curve that can be tough to master. Despite its age, GIMP is still updated regularly and serves as the go-to tool for a huge number of people.
Pdf Editing Software For Mac
The default suite of tools is powerful, but if you don’t find what you’re looking for, GIMP works with a huge number of third-party plugins. You can expand its utility and functionality to near-infinite levels with a bit of Google searching.
The great thing about GIMP is that if you’re already skilled with Photoshop, you can get the hang of GIMP relatively quickly. You’ll need to learn the names for the different tools, but it has almost as much power as Photoshop for none of the cost.
Pixelmator (Download)
Pixelmator is a paid tool available for download on the App Store for $29.99, but it comes with a 30-day free trial if you want to give it a whirl and see if the app works for you.
Pixelmator has a lot of powerful painting and retouching tools that let users change images in any way they can imagine, as well as compatibility with a wide array of different file formats including Photoshop. This means you can open a Photoshop file with various layers and manipulate it just like you would in its original format.
Default Image Editing Software Mac Reviews
Pixelmator takes advantage of macOS features to provide users with a full-featured suite of image editing software that competes with the best of them.
Fotor Photo Editor (Download)
Tumblr media
Fotor is a popular free photo editor for Mac that many of you might have used before. It’s available as an online tool, but if you find that you prefer it for quick and easy edits as opposed to something with more features, you can also download it from the App Store.
Fotor lacks many of the more advanced tools you’ll find with GIMP or Pixelmator, but it does offer a lot of powerful features that less-skilled users will appreciate. Fotor can automatically touch up images and process dozens of images at a time with its batch tool. You can also create collages and set your own borders.
Music Editing Software For Mac
Instagram has nothing on Fotor. Best of all, it’s free – but if you want access to its Pro features, a subscription is $4.99 per month or $19.99 per year.
Photoscape X (Download)
Photoscape X is another free photo editor for Mac that appeals to a niche audience. That said, it has tools that some of the others do not, including the ability to create animated GIFS.
Default Image Editing Software Mac Pro
Its primary function is to fix and enhance photos, with all of the tools you associate with image editing. You can merge photos together to create HDR effects, rename multiple photos at once, and add up to 26 different textures.
Photoscape X is free to use, but it does have in-app purchases that you can invest in to expand its function.

People of WordPress: Robert Cheleuka
Tumblr media
You’ve probably heard that WordPress is open-source software, and may know that it’s created and run by volunteers. WordPress enthusiasts share many examples of how WordPress changed people’s lives for the better. This monthly series shares some of those lesser-known, amazing stories.
Meet Robert Cheleuka
Robert is a self-taught graphic and motion designer turned web designer (and aspiring web developer) from Malawi, Africa. Over the years, he has grown fond of WordPress and has become a loyal user. Still, the journey is rough.
Tumblr media
Robert Cheleuka
Malawi
Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. A tiny landlocked country with a population of 17 million, it’s largely rural and still considered a developing country. The average entry-level monthly pay for most skilled jobs is about $110. If you’re employed full-time in the creative industry and if you’re very lucky, you might be able to earn more than that. Employees earning more than $300 a month are rare to non-existent.
Robert has been a freelance graphic designer since about 2011. He started by doing gigs from his dorm in college and from home. Earnings from his freelance jobs increased his interest in entrepreneurship and he started to consider starting his own creative agency.
How Robert was introduced to WordPress
Robert first came into contact with WordPress in 2014 when he and a friend started a local tech blog. Before that, all he knew was basic, outdated HTML from high school and some knowledge of Adobe Dreamweaver. They decided to use WordPress, and their new blog looked like it came from the future. They used a theme from the repo and got such positive feedback from the blog they decided to open a content and media publishing agency.
While they got a few web redesign jobs thanks to the exposure the blog brought, they lacked the administrative and business skills needed and ended up going their separate ways. Then in his first real job after college Robert finally took it upon himself to learn the ins and outs of WordPress. He learned how to install WordPress on a server and did some research on customizing themes.
With that knowledge alone he got his first web design clients and started earning nearly as much as he did at his job. Robert soon realized that free WordPress themes would only take him so far, especially with his limited code skills.
Because in Malawi only people who travel abroad have access to credit cards, paying for premium themes was impossible. Like many WordPress designers in developing countries, Robert turned to using pirated themes instead. He knew that was both unsafe and unethical, and decided to learn how to code. Knowing how to build themes from scratch would surely help him rise above the competition.
Tumblr media
The WordPress community from Robert’s perspective
Robert doesn’t have a lot of interaction with the WordPress community. Although he would search for solutions from blogs about WordPress he had never actually talked to or asked anyone from the community for a solution.
Robert believes that this isolation is the result of a glass ceiling — the WordPress community is partially online and partially in-person, but there isn’t a local group in Malawi. And because Malawi, like many other developing nations, lacks a way to pay online many can’t access premium support, online learning, or most other types of professional development. No matter how welcoming the people of WordPress might be, it can still feel like it mostly belongs to those with enough privilege to conduct business on the internet.
WordPress & inclusion
As most freelancers know, it’s really hard to learn while you also still need to earn. Add pitching to clients and shipping graphic design projects… there are only so many hours in a day.
Robert didn’t have a programming background and had always been more of a creative person. In order to grow as a web designer/developer, he needed to learn PHP. Again, without access to a credit card, that was complicated. Also, free coding training wasn’t as widely available as it is now.
Robert wishes that more developers would consider alternative ways for users who cannot pay for courses, themes, or plugins (whether that’s because of available infrastructure or otherwise). He wishes that WordPress tutors and developers would open up ways to accommodate aspiring learners in developing countries who cannot access plugins, courses, and themes, to be able to give back and to participate at another level.
WordPress has allowed him to build an income he would have no other way of earning and it makes a huge difference. He believes sharing stories like his will hopefully make WordPress products and services become more universally available. In addition, he hopes that more aspiring, self-taught developers will find courage in reaching out to connect with others out there.
