Spirit Realm AU!

I’m finally getting to a lore post with this au!

Also while the AU does differ from the main series it does mirror some of the OG bnha storyline so spoilers ahead!

Overview:

So this AU consist mostly of the spirit realm (obviously) and the living! It mainly follows Edgeshot and Bakugo. Edgeshot died in a lab incident after reviving Bakugo but due to the nature of his revival it opened up a vestige realm between them! 

Living World:

In this world, quirks exist but in a different manner than in the OG series.

People receive quirks in this world by either one, being gifted it in lab experiments or two, either one or both parents passing their quirk DNA onto their offspring.

Quirks, while originally reserved for police and military, have been spreading throughout civilian lives.

The main reason for this was the rise of illegal quirkifications. Many criminals were illegally getting quirks and terrorizing citizens. The quirkified police force (QPF) was not yet fully formed at this time so they let citizens within certain parameters receive quirks to defend themselves.

A few years has passed since then and now quirks are mostly a part of normal life with criminals being better taken care of by the QPF.

The Beginning of Lab Experiments:

The lab experiments were started by two brothers.

Their goal was (what it seemed at least) to make people's lives easier by special powers they called quirks. 

The younger brother stayed true to this goal, he himself was rather weak and fragile due to his health and hoped that with quirks burdens like this could at least be eased for future generations.

The older brother however did not, he saw the potential power this could bring and became consumed by power and greed. 

Because of this the two brothers fought and broke the experiments up. The younger brother kept his experiments going according to his ideologies while the older brother hid in the shadows and did his experiments according to his ideologies.

Today, governments mostly use the younger brother's experiments for their country while criminals use the older brothers.

Lab Experiments Today:

While the younger brother was still alive and was running his version of the experiments he had a specific guideline of morals for the experiments to follow. He did this to avoid corruption and to give every right possible to the experimented.

Of course as time went on after his mysterious death those guidelines grew to only be loosely followed if followed at all.

The Public Safety Commission (PSC) runs both the experiments and the QPF.

Experiments are usually done either before the subject is born (in which case they’ll be considered lab born) or after which the time period to receive said quirk is from the moment they’re born till they’re about 5 or 6.

The reason they’re done so early is that it gives the subject the most likely chance of survival. After 5 or 6 the rate of survival drops year after year. While it still can be done as an adult it would be very risky.

This time period also gives them a chance to adopt and grow into their quirk.

Unless the subject lab born, receiving a quirk is considered like a second birth.

The quirkification process can provide a large toll onto the body so to combat that they put the subject into a medically induced coma for anywhere from a week to a month or 2.

If you’ve been experimented once before (usually when you first receive your quirk) you could be experimented on again since now you have a tolerance. 

This (for the little brother’s version at least) doesn’t mean you’re getting another quirk, but they can run tests and all that good stuff on you.

They can only do this to subjects either in the military or in the QPF. So civilians are mostly safe.

There’s no way to 100% ensure you won’t get experimented on as a military or QPF member since if you want to be either one of those things you have to sign a waiver agreeing to it. If you say no you’ll be denied. 

You can consent to certain experiments however. So you could agree to experiments that may test your quirk’s endurance or how it interacts with different environments.

The experiments don’t usually sound too bad on paper, (done on purpose) they could be a lot worse in action.

The PSC also has been known for out right discarding your options and just doing what they want to you anyways.

Spirit Realm:

(This category isn’t exactly done because I only have notes down for the overview and one of the subclasses so there will be a second post once I get at least the important ones down. Also this post is already pretty long so breaking it up should make it more manageable!)

This includes one section of many realms you can enter when you die.

These realms have more of a relationship similar to countries in the living world than being separated. Think like how the US gets along with the UK and not with Russia. 

If you were to look at all of them on a map I'd look more like a puzzle than a world. 

Each one of these realms can be quite different from each other and could have sub categories.  

They all have one thing in common though, it’s that they are semi similar to the living world and are a common destination for young people (18 and younger), those who had a strong will to live at death, and those who are not ready to fully pass on (The main spirits can also chose if someone is ready to pass on or not). 

Sometimes people choose to go to the spirit realms if they have a friend or loved one there that they want to stay with.

He's already being way too agreeable as it is -- is he that sure of his power? Grimmjow guesses that when you have taken down an actual demigod you can probably feel secure about sleeping weaponless and getting your den invaded by potentially hungry hollows, but fuck. It's humiliating. --((bleach psychic wolves))-- Pantera snorted, started licking at her paw with a casual air of disinterest. Blood-and-entrails-and-shit is not anyone's pack, she threw out, along with echoes of memories of -- ugh. Her first litter by Fornicaràs. "--Grimmjow?" He startled. "What?" Ichigo was staring at him; Grimmjow furrowed his brow, tried to make it forbidding enough to -- had he made a weird face? Your face did nothing. Rain-on-slick-glass-and-pavement hears/feels well. ... yun hyeran, a daegu native with an older and younger brother, an ambivert and an all around baby

tbh i don’t have much of her bg figured out, that’s always the last thing i get to so rip

buT she became involved in music through her father, who studied it in uni and ended up becoming a music instructor with a focus on piano, flute and vocals

her and her mom.. also her older brother, didn’t have the best relationship when she grew older, which seemed to die altogether when her parents divorced and her mom left. but her and her brother’s still exists, it’s just that he’s a bit of a toxic influence on her and she tends to distance herself from him

went to uni in seoul to pursue music like her father ( a daddy’s girl too like ) and found her way into the world of production !! by junior year, she’d transferred out of her original program and majored in that instead and has loved it ever since; she recently graduated

moved to jeju island bc an aunt lived there when she was young and she LOVED to visit, made a few friends there and would always whine abt the next time they could all go see her aunt again. so it made sense for her to live, at least for a little while, in one of her favourite places

she also adores said aunt, her dad’s sister and the maternal figure she Deserves, so she came partially to see her more often

for the time being, she works full-time as a barista at the café just a block from her cute little studio apartment while looking into internships at record labels for her to take on a little further down the line ( no rush bc it’s already quite competitive and she’d rather enjoy what she has going now )

she’s also making something of an income as the creator of an acct on youtube and soundcloud for her music, something she’s had for abt two years now

she’s not even close to making it big yet, and she doesn’t mind if she never works for a moderately to highly popular label — though she should if she wants to get by

among the aesthetic, lo-fi music crowd ( one of those yt accts with a livestream for certain playlists that go on for hours, rip ) where for the most part, it’s personal faves mixed with her own works, and has a substantial following as of now. but has an interest in experimenting, with mashups ( as a lover of them ?? i couldn’t help myself sgflkdsjg ) for example, with a small fear of how that change would be received

in terms of her personality and other things:

she’s a very loyal person, v e r y. while like i said, her relationship with her brother is Not Great, she hasn’t completely given up on him. maybe for the time being, but her being someone who’s open to the idea of people changing for the better somewhere down the line, leaves a bit of room for her to possibly change her mind if he does enough to allow her to consider it

so she can be a bit of a doormat in some cases, it all depends on how she sees the person that determines if that’s the case, but she generally won’t let you off if you’re being dumb/an ass to someone or if she gets advantageous vibes from you for example ( given she can.. be a little naive and is a p gentle soul ) so.. idk fgklsj good luck to the 99% ig ??

she does have a slight dependency on others despite her thinking all signs point to the opposite, and even though her and her mom never rly had a good relationship she still reels from the neglect/abandonment some days so handle her with Care if she deems you a close pal, 

spontaneous tbh, moving to jeju was a little last minute on her part, for one

she’s a little reclusive when focused on something, if she tells you she’s working on a track, it’s essentially a head’s up that you might not see her for a couple of days depending on how soon she gets it done — lowkey that bitch™ who makes up an illness to her boss, so she wouldn’t even show up for work if it’s more than just her fucking around

bc admittedly, a lot of what she posts is fucking around and liking it, her more thought-out and effort packed projects are hidden away on her laptop

a bit insecure with her work and just her general disposition ?? those first few points above mess with her a lot and leave her disheartened so.. my poor child

▌ 30 DAYS OF INSPIRATION▐

I started this years ago and forgot to continue. (Shows how bad of a procrastinator I am.) I want to start it up again to work on my writing so my posts are going to be a mix of these short stories and series updates.

Day One -

While doing my research, I found a very interesting blog post called “Practicing Cultural Accessibility while Serving Domestic Violence Survivors” by Marissa Young this blog post talks about the importance of providing survivors of domestic violence with help in their own language because it allows the victims to transmit their emotions into words. Another thing that stood out to me was that they suggest that all the places that provide help to these victims recommend there to be a person of a similar cultural background as the victim because it’s easier to understand them.

Some positive things that I read in the post was that they feel like people that help the victims should have responsibility to build a trusting environment for them to feel understood and not judged. I thought that some sentences did change my way of thinking because I didn’t really consider these things necessary, that the cultural background would be needed to make a strong connection with the victim. I think the author did a good job writing the post but lacked supporting statistics that could have helped her back up her claims. I think the author relied too much on her emotions and not on statistics because she talking through her perspective. She diffidently was able to communicate her message to her readers but like I said before I think a little bit more facts or statistics could have made her claim stronger.
