"For The King II": Release Date Announced
"#ForTheKing II": Release Date Announced IronOak Games have announced the release date for "#ForTheKingII", the sequel to a game that was (indirectly) inspired by "#Ultima 7".
IronOak Games have announced the release date for For The King II, the sequel to their board game-inspired RPG; it will release on Steam on November 2nd, 2023 (and is available for pre-order now). The For The King games emerged out of The Black Gate Board Game, an attempt to re-create Ultima 7: The Black Gate as a board game. Lucifuge Dragon ultimately cancelled that project, but took much of…

Researching of games
Astroneer:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What's the point of Astroneer?
About This Game
In this space sandbox adventure, players can work together to build custom bases above or below ground, create vehicles to explore a vast solar system, and use terrain to create anything they can imagine. A player's creativity and ingenuity are the key to thriving on exciting planetary adventures!
Astroneer, officially stylized in all caps, is a sandbox adventure game developed from independent developer System Era Softworks. The game was released through early access in December 2016 before a full release on December 16, 2019.
How long did it take to make Astroneer?
Development and release
At first, they worked on the game only part-time, after about two years of development Bromell in an interview stated that they were about ready to commit to the project full time.
Is Astroneer a hard game?
Astroneer is an easy game to load and immediately become overwhelmed with the many menus you'll have to interact with to understand the game controls and features. It doesn't hold your hand or make it particularly “easy” to play at first. In fact, you may even find yourself eight hours in and still on the first planet.
For the King:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is For The King like Dungeons and Dragons?
For The King incorporates a feel similar to DnD in terms of luck when it comes to performing actions from investigating to simply attacking. While it's not a die roll per se, it has a similar randomness. This is where Focus comes in. Each party member has points of Focus indicated by yellow icons above their portraits. For the King is a roguelike role-playing video game developed by Canadian game developer IronOak Games and published by Curve Games. It was released in February 2017 to early access on Steam with a full release in April 2018
Is For The King a hard game?
Combat in For The King 2 is surprisingly difficult, especially for players who are new to the series. Encounters can range from dreadfully simple to overwhelmingly hard, so players will need to be extra careful with who they pick a fight with.
Is For The King fun solo?
For The King is a turn-based strategy RPG that combines elements from tabletop games and rogue-likes for a unique gameplay experience. The original For The King game remains fun and engaging, with a large variety of classes to choose from. It can be played alone or with friends.

Research games
We were asked to research the following games:
Astroneer
Here is a direct link to the game
Astroneer | A Game of Aerospace Industry and Interplanetary Exploration
I found the game on STEAM here:
ASTRONEER on Steam (steampowered.com)
Astroneer is advertised as a game of aerospace industry and interplanetary exploration. You can explore and re-shape distant worlds. You can work with other players to build custom bases, above or below ground, and create vehicles.
The low poly 3D was relatively well used, there was a difference between day and night, you could see the dust coming off vehicles when they moved, steam coming out of holes in the ground. The trees and grass were not very detailed, but there was enough to define them.
The artwork utilises the basic colour palettes, such as green, purple and blue, the shading techniques to create depth and create a visually appealing composition are fairly basic too, there is never too much detail of the distance, the render distance is not very far.
For the game it was, I do not really feel it needed more detail, the level it had was enough to enjoy the game.
For the King
Again, I found this game on STEAM, here is the link:
For The King on Steam (steampowered.com)
For the King, is a story based, role-playing video game. The game was developed by Canadian game developer IronOak Games and published by Curve Games.
Here is a link to the official launch trailer:
youtube
I preferred this game, it felt more engaging than Astroneer. The low poly 3D was used well, as the game did not require too much detail. The artwork utilises basic colour palettes, with not much definition or detail, the shading techniques to create depth and create a visually appealing composition are fairly basic too. There is never too much detail of the distance again, the render distance is not very far at all, with just a horizon with sky and a few boulders.
Pan-Pan
I found Pan-Pan on STEAM also, here's a link:
Pan-Pan on Steam (steampowered.com)
I also found it on Nintendo, here's the link:
PAN-PAN A tiny big adventure for Nintendo Switch - Nintendo Official Site
Pan-Pan is an open plain adventure that expands on the concept of environmental narrative storytelling with puzzle solving and exploration elements at its core.
This was the most basic of the four games, with no background at all, it is blacked out, or faded out. The view concentrates on the immediate part of the game you are in. The artwork is very basic with no depth and little to no shading. The game wasn't very realistic at all, but maybe improved by adding a wider render distance. However, the game seems to work the way it is, focusing on the one part the player is on.
Lonely Mountains
I found Lonely Mountains was on X-Box:
Buy Lonely Mountains: Downhill | Xbox
And here is the write up about it on STEAM:
Lonely Mountains: Downhill on Steam (steampowered.com)
Just you and your bike - take it on a thrilling ride down an unspoiled mountain landscape. Make your way through thick forests, narrow trails and wild rivers. Race, jump, slide and try not to crash - all the way from the peak to the valley!
This game was extremely basic with not much definition at all, for example, the butterfly was just a yellow butterfly shape. Blood and mud were blocks. There was a good render distance, giving mountain views and some flowers by the side of the track you ride down. I felt this game would definitely have benefitted from a higher poly 3D, as the rider's movements were very rigid and the track lines were very basic and hard to make out in some places.

As a turn-based cooperative RPG experience, the design and implementation of many of the mechanics in For The King reflect a need for the party to remain close and in constant communication, but doesn’t enforce the party to do so by keeping them in lockstep. Players can explore bits of the map that interest them when their turn to move comes up, and if they’re first to encounter a piece of loot they enjoy, they can choose to take it without passing or offering it to their fellow players. However, because players have so many opportunities to assist one another, either in battle or via party based buff/heal actions, this cooperative approach is encouraged, without making it an outright requirement.
