one time I was walking around outside on campus in between classes and saw there was someone working on a lower level. in that moment I thought to myself, “self, you know what would be a kind and friendly thing to do? greet that person down there!! maybe it shall brighten their day! :D”

and so I leaned over the balcony, looked down at them, and waved and said “hi!! :3” and they DIDNT EVEN LOOK UP AND I RAN AWAY

i love it when you accidentally meet eyes with a stranger in public and you flash a quick polite smile and they look at you like they wish you were dead in a ditch

honestly, the radicalizing event that made me ditch faux-ironic detachment is when I sent a hard-to-write sentimental message to someone I was (at the time) close with, and they sent the vomiting emoji back. it was like oh okay, that sucks.
