Mythological animals that I think should be used for Arknights character designs
I posted this on Reddit, might as well post it here too.
Arknights has a lot of myth-inspired characters already beside the obvious dragons, angels and devils: We have Pegasi (the Nearl family), Griffins (Archetto). Hippogryph (Hellagur), Phoenixes (Fiammetta), Kukulkán (Ho'olheyak), Cerberus (Ceobe), Typhon (well... Typhon)... you get the picture.
So... why not add some more mythical animal-inspired designs? Here are some that I think would be awesome to have in the game.
Cadejo:
What they are: The Cadejo (Spanish pronunciation: [kaˈðexo]) is a supernatural spirit that appears as a dog-shaped creature with blue eyes when it's calm and red eyes when it's attacking. It roams isolated roads at night, according to Central American folklore of indigenous origin. In some variations of the myth, there is a good white cadejo and an evil black cadejo. Both are spirits that appear at night to travelers: the white cadejo protects them from harm and danger during their journey, while the black cadejo (sometimes an incarnation of the devil) tries to kill them.
What I think would be cool: A Perro Dollkeeper that switches between "white" and "black" mode in battle, giving some really nice flavor to the "doll" mechanic. Bonus point if HG goes the Archetto/Ho'olheyak route and give them Sarkaz or Caprinae horns while still having them be of Perro race, as lots of Cadejo artwork represents them with goat horns and/or hooves in line with the whole devil aspect of the legend.
Kamaitachi:
What they are: Kamaitachi (鎌鼬) is a Japanese yōkai often told about in the Kōshin'etsu region. They appear riding on dust devils and they cut people using the nails on both their hands that are like sickles. One would receive a sharp, painless wound. The name is a combination of the words "itachi" meaning weasel, and "kama" meaning sickle. In the Musashi region and Kanagawa Prefecture, they are called "kamakaze" (鎌風, "wind sickle"), and in the Shizuoka Prefecture they are called "akuzen-kaze" (悪旋風, "evil whirlwind").
What I think would be cool: Seriously, why do we not have an Anaty operator based on these guys yet? Why wasn't Shirayuki one? It is not like Arknights has not based characters on yōkai before (Suzuran and Utage immediately come to mind), so where's our sickle weasel at?
Tatzelwurm:
What they are: In the folklore of the Alpine region of south-central Europe, the Tatzelwurm, Stollenwurm, or Stollwurm is a lizard-like creature, often described as having the face of a cat, with a serpent-like body which may be slender or stubby, with four short legs or two forelegs and no hindlegs. The creature is sometimes said to be venomous, or to attack with poisonous breath, and to make a high-pitched or hissing sound. Anecdotes describing encounters with the creature or briefly described lore about them can be found in several areas of Europe, including the Austrian, Bavarian, French, Italian and Swiss Alps. It has several other regional names, including Bergstutz, Springwurm, Praatzelwurm, and in French, arassas.
What I think would be cool: ...okay, I will be honest, I just find the idea of a lizard or serpent-tailed catgirl or catboy really cute (Bonus points if they have cute venomous little fangs). Yes, the idea of putting serpent tails were you wouldn't expect to find them has already been used for both Utage and Ho'olheyak, but not only are both of those examples also based on mythology (The Nue for Utage, Kukulkan/Quetzalcoatl for Ho'olheyak), but their designs also seem to be decently popular with the fandom, so why not repeat the formula?
Simurgh:
What they are: The simurgh (/sɪˈmɜːrɡ/; Persian: سیمرغ, also spelled simorgh, simorg, simurg, simoorg, simorq or simourv) is a benevolent, mythical bird in Persian mythology and literature. The Simurgh is depicted in Iranian art as a winged creature in the shape of a bird, gigantic enough to carry off an elephant or a whale. It appears as a peacock with the head of a dog and the claws of a lion – sometimes, however, also with a human face.
What I think would be cool: As with the Tatzelwurm, I just want to see what HG could design based on this. There's no doubt in my mind that such a character would have to be a Liberi, just like Ho'olheyak, Archetto and Hellagur before it. I want HG to give us what initially seems like a new Perro or Lupo waifu, fluffy wolf/dog ears and tail, with just a easily missable peacock feather on her hair to foreshadow her true inspiration... and then when the character actually comes out they reveal her as a Liberi seemingly out of nowhere, big majestic Simurgh on her E2 art background, all Lupoknights players utterly jebaited. Let's keep this trend of weird Liberi going, please!

The Universal Theory
The Universal Theory [trailer]
The year of 1962. A physics congress in the Alps. An Iranian guest. A mysterious pianist. A bizarre cloud formation in the sky and a booming mystery under the mountain.
Reviews point out homages to post-war black-and-white films, influences of David Lynch, the fact that in post-war Germany no-one was a former Nazi. I can see those references, but it was all a bit too vague for me.
It didn't really feel as if the story is moving forward. Just references and pretty black-and-white cinematography wasn't enough for me.
A problem is also the relentless bombastic symphonic score that feels obtrusive. Suggesting tension and an importance of the story that's hard to see. I was hoping for more, but my expectations were too high.

Exploring Flags with Green, White, and Red Stripes
Flags are powerful symbols that represent nations, cultures, and ideologies. They often incorporate a combination of colors, shapes, and symbols to convey a message or identity. Among the various flag designs, those featuring green, white, and red stripes hold a unique significance. These three colors, often found in flags around the world, carry diverse meanings and historical backgrounds. In this article, we will explore the flags with green, white, and red stripes and delve into the stories and symbolism behind them.
The Italian Flag
The Italian flag, also known as the Tricolore, consists of three vertical stripes of green, white, and red. It is one of the most recognizable flags globally, representing the Italian Republic. The Tricolore's origins date back to the 18th century when it was adopted during the Italian unification movement. Each of its three colors carries specific symbolism:
Green represents the lush Italian countryside and the hope for a unified nation.
White symbolizes the snow-capped Alps and the desire for peace and unity among the Italian states.
Red signifies the bloodshed and sacrifices made by those who fought for Italy's independence and unification.
The Mexican Flag
Mexico's flag is another prominent example of green, white, and red stripes, but with a unique twist. It features three vertical stripes, but the national emblem, an eagle perched on a cactus devouring a snake, is centered on the white stripe. The green, white, and red stripes hold various meanings:
Green represents the hope for a better future.
White symbolizes purity and religion.
Red stands for the bloodshed of Mexico's heroes in their quest for independence.
The Hungarian Flag
Hungary's flag, often referred to as the "Tricolor," consists of horizontal stripes of red, white, and green. This flag, adopted in 1848, is deeply rooted in Hungarian history and symbolism:
Red represents strength and valor.
White symbolizes fidelity and virtue.
Green stands for hope and freedom.
The Iranian Flag
Iran's flag, also known as the "Tricolor," features horizontal stripes of green, white, and red. This flag has gone through several modifications over the years, but its colors remain consistent:
Green represents growth and prosperity.
White symbolizes peace and honesty.
Red signifies courage and valor.
The Bulgarian Flag
The Bulgarian flag, with horizontal stripes of white, green, and red, is one of Europe's oldest national flags. Its colors hold specific meanings:
White stands for peace and freedom.
Green represents the fertility of Bulgaria's lands.
Red symbolizes the bravery and valor of the Bulgarian people.
The Nigerian Flag
Nigeria's flag features vertical stripes of green and white. The green color represents Nigeria's lush vegetation and its rich agricultural resources. The white stripe symbolizes peace and unity among the diverse ethnic groups in the country.
Conclusion
Flags are more than just pieces of fabric; they are powerful symbols of identity, culture, and history. The flags with green, white, and red stripes showcase the importance of these colors in conveying meaningful messages. Whether it's the Italian Tricolore representing the unification of a nation, Mexico's flag symbolizing its fight for independence, or the flags of Hungary, Iran, Bulgaria, and Nigeria embodying their unique histories and aspirations, these flags tell stories of courage, hope, and unity. Exploring the symbolism behind these flags helps us better understand the cultures and values of the nations they represent, reminding us of the power of symbolism in our world.

140) 2014
Only by this. But I'm sure I won't meet Ms. Rowling.
All that remains is that 2017 Reddit moment.
Onwards. ±54.
I'm the left of the screen one. But, yes Poland is for rest. US Countryside is like a good place to visit too at times. I'm more in the US rather Mehico but want to visit ABQ. Thérèse, hard compound tires. I already did my part with South. For adrenaline, or Polish ladies you have a thing or two? I don't know, I don't know everything.
Balkan visit too, İstanbul.
But anyway, I'm not coming, but receiving now sexually. Got no bedding whilst it's fame outside. Inside is one last ride. 🇮🇩.
From my notes📝, ehm, since I have only 3 that would me enough☯️🏡. Ola(Invert), Michelle(Jugs, Aryan jugs), Elif(Turkish Baroque Japanese house). İclal too if we meet.
Even until ±54, 2054. I only need 3 of them. I'm half empty. Ola, I will not go to Sonia or else before my body language is healthy. Also beside so Poles uncle inside, the world is really bigger than me, whatever I'm this and that. And 2023-±2054 will not enough. I just wanted satisfaction which is align with my taste when the Svastika rotare.
Amber Bain, Maya, also not ordinary, It's I need to restore body language. Can't get it to A+ List celeb world for now, my body language.
My childhood is a society, that if you ask questions in the classroom is like wall-street trading.
From notes📝,
Poland, Ola makes me want to, I mean it's enough, who doesn't like to mend w/ it's invert at least for me. Imagining it is so good. Good Lord.
Russia, if girl is beautiful it is so beautiful. But if it's ugly, then it's like construction worker that formed like aunties. No middle ground ever.
Eastern Europe, base operative 😬, once Sarajevo in my note.
Is there any hijabi MENA-Levant-Edirne-Iranian girls that not fat? Mostly that ubiquitous that isn't. I have this thing with with. But it goes both ways.
Hungary, Architecture Revival Roger Scrutopia.
Peaceful Ukraine.
UK, lips surgery, black armpits, Banter.
French, SJWs & angry forever like Beşiktaş. Except Countryside, it's like opposite of US one. French girls is like selected ones it seems, the Chevalier ones, real deal French.
German, Bavarian area only. I'm Orient but, you know the rest. Swiss Alps, with Bavarian girls.
Oceania, if I back South, Alycia Debicki New Lorde.
Irish, Saoirse whilst Hayley visit it too might be, but that's for A+ List kinda thing, I'm half empty guy.
Scottish Highlands, Irish is like reminiscing in high cliffs along the shore hearing the echoes of the waves, whilst dancing in warmth of hospitality in its pub, Scots is highlands, its reverbs sound, Freeedooom!, is shouting in the hills with its reverbs accompanied with rivers in the horizon, it can be as heard the echoes of moaning in PG ratings wit the gals inside a hut in the mountains.
Iceland & Scandinavian, I like cold weather. Only know the girls are blonde. And Vikings, ehm I like to be dominated.
Ehm, domina, back at it again, Scottish Highlands & US Countryside, if one day it is happening, I visualize myself hearing moaning of the girls echoes in Scotland highlands & in campsite of US countryside with its swamps & accompanied by raven sounds, when it's not near the, as I roam in.
Netherland of course, 3/8±. Dicks out for Harambe Dick Winters.
Architecture; Alhambra & Samarkand.
Also, I will stamp your chest w/ numbers📸 & save it. I like to, I have fetish of it. Imagine 1 Google Photos folder with lots of number stamps in the beautiful.
Now I'm rest, hope one day I don't need to being stomped per usual to feel it normal. At least I'm not being punched for being walking anymore. I'm professional in jerking off.
I have peace & able to jerk off. What I need now is no more painting Body Paint mo more. Then maybe I able to find job. My apartment girls not DTF. But I found out recently, I'm not too. Not White Girls.
Alright thats my 10s🇹🇷🇩🇪🇬🇧 with 00s too that there's nothing in it. And that you all know, I make moves 🗺️.
Also I don't even know how to fuck, really. I want to learn but there's always barrier, beside there's no girls for it. I can't even drive a car.

Myth and Legend Monsters to the moon and back.

The US says it's helping Iranians navigate a massive internet blackout. Activists say it's too little, too late
As protesters took to the streets of Iran following the death in detention of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman apprehended for apparently not wearing her hijab properly, videos of the uprising began to flood the internet.
Clips of students tearing up pictures of Iran’s Supreme Leader in northern Iran. Photos of women removing their hijab in Iran’s capital, Tehran, and videos of protesters marching down the streets of the capital with their fists in the air.
The outpouring of anger following Amini’s death was visible to the world. But then it went dark as WhatsApp, Signal, Viber, Skype, and even Instagram, one of the last remaining social media apps to be usable, were blocked.
Internet shutdowns aren’t new in Iran, often accompanying periods of unrest and dissent. The most severe crackdown was in 2019, during which more than 100 protesters were killed and the internet was cut off for 12 days, according to Amnesty International.
Activists in Iran say that the primary purpose of the shutdowns is to disrupt communication among people organizing protests on the ground and stifle dissent. As a result of these frequent blackouts, tech-savvy Iranians have learned to increasingly rely on more advanced tools like VPNs or the Tor network as workarounds to stay connected. But even these are now being restricted by authorities and are therefore far from reliable. CNN changed Ali's name because he feared for his safety, he told CNN via an encrypted ProtonMail conversation.
A VPN, or virtual private network, encrypts the user’s traffic and connects it to a remote server, protecting the data and activity; Tor is an open-source network that allows anonymous web browsing. ProtonMail is an end-to-end encrypted email service.
Another user, 18-year-old Nima, whose name CNN changed because he fears for his safety, told CNN there were no messaging apps that work in Iran right now without using VPNs, "The government is blocking VPNs right now, one by one. Our accessibility is getting limited each day. We are hardly able to know about the protests and the victims in my country," he said.
In comparison to the full shutdown in 2019, this blackout is more targeted and sophisticated, according to Alp Toker, director of international technology platform NetBlocks, who tracked three different methods—internet outages, mobile service disruptions, and the ban on Instagram and WhatsApp—that Iranian authorities have used to restrict online communications.
However, the challenges Iranians face come not just from their own regime but from the international community as well, including governments and tech companies. The Biden administration last month expanded its general license to Iran to "support the free flow of information" and authorized American tech companies to provide people inside the country access to certain tools that help them communicate with each other amid one of the worst internet shutdowns in Iranian history. On Monday, President Biden said the US was making it easier for Iranians to access the internet, "including through facilitating greater access to secure, outside platforms and services."
While digital activists and Iranian digital natives welcome these moves, they fear they may not be enough to address the issues average Iranians face every day while attempting to connect to the internet.
CNN has spoken with digital rights activists, tech experts, and Iranian internet users who spoke out about the unintended consequences of US sanctions. Exemptions to tech sanctions were introduced in 2013 but failed to go far enough, activists say. The new exemptions weren’t introduced until September 23.
US sanctions unwittingly accelerated Iran’s development of an internal network, the National Information Network project, ironically making it cheaper and easier for Iran’s government to shut off the internet without disrupting government operations such as banks, financial systems, and hospitals, Rashidi said.
These sanctions also pushed tech companies to over-comply or withdraw entirely from Iran, leaving Iranians with no alternative but to use government-controlled domestic servers at heightened personal risk in terms of safety, privacy, and security, Rashidi added.
Iranian internet users who spoke to CNN shared the same frustration. "I gotta complain. Why do tech companies restrict Iranian people? They are targeting people, not the government," said Ali, who says he’s posting on social media "to inform people about the different ways they can connect to the internet in this hard censorship because I believe it’s a human right."
Not only has the Iranian government blocked the Apple Store and Google Play – making it impossible for users to access tools that could circumvent the blackout – but activists in Iran say they are unable to upload their own apps for wider distribution.
CNN approached Apple for a comment but had not received a statement by the time of publication. In a statement to CNN, Google said: "Google has allowed users in Iran to access free, publicly available services related to communications and/or sharing of informational materials. This includes products like Google Search, free consumer Gmail, Google Maps, and YouTube. It is important to note that, although Google can decide to make these services available, we cannot ensure they are accessible within Iran."
When asked about the inability of Iranian app developers to upload their own apps to the Google Play Store, Google said the new US sanction exemptions do "not extend to accepting or hosting Iranian-origin apps."
Google also recently announced it would make more of its tools available, including more VPNs and location sharing on Google apps, in the light of updated US sanctions. But digital activists Alimardani and Rashidi call this "low-hanging fruit," saying Google needs to do more. "Google Cloud Platform, Google App Engine, they have been very important in terms of the internet infrastructure, helping Iranian technologists right now. So that really needs to be made available," Alimardani said.
Asked why other Google services, such as Google Classroom, Google Analytics, Google Developers, and Google Chat, remain inaccessible, including many services accessible via the Google Play Store, the company replied: "Ongoing legal or technical barriers may block the provision of certain services, but we are exploring whether additional products might be made available."
Alimardani and Rashidi point favorably to GitHub, a popular code hosting platform for IT developers, which last year secured a license from the US government to offer its services in Iran.
Signal, the encrypted messaging network, is also offering instructions to people in Iran and suggesting help for whoever can host a proxy server and direct download. CNN contacted the Iranian government for comment but received no reply at the time of publication.
While more people inside Iran now rely on the Tor browser, which has seen a spike in users since the start of the protests, a sense of defiance is spreading among Iranian digital natives.

Guest Review: Shadow Target by David Ricciardi
Shadow Target
Jake Keller Book 4
David Ricciardi
Berkley pub
June 15th, 2021
Shadow Target by David Ricciardi brings to life the patriotic hero Jake Keller. The story delves into the influences of money, power, and greed. Traitors, moles, deception, and teamwork are highlighted.
“I was asked by a reader how did the Iranians know, in the first novel, that Jake was coming in? The whole premise in the first book, Warning Light, never explained that part.”
The plot opens with a small plane crash in the Alps where only Jake survives. Jake escapes from the mountainside deathtrap, but it isn’t the only attempt on his life. He is put through the ringer, almost drowning, and having a major car accident.
“I do not like things easy for the hero. I start him off on his back foot in all the books, where things go wrong fast. He has to claw his way out.”
Knowing he must find those intent on killing him, his list of suspects grows. Trust comes at a high price, which has him wondering if there is a mole within the Agency that might be helping the Russians to eliminate him and some other CIA field officers.
“One of my favorite quotes in this book, ‘Leadership isn’t a reward. It is a responsibility.’ People see leadership as an achievement or something to be gained for their own sake. They should recognize the need to lead a team and make decisions. It is not about their agenda, but how can they support and empower those underneath them.”
Jake immediately trusts Genevieve, someone he met in the first book, Warning Light, who work for the French spy agency, DGSE. They cared deeply for each other, but with Jake’s identity change their relationship went south. She did not understand why he never informed her he had not died, with the only explanation that he prioritized his career over her. Now two years later he needs her help and wants to resurrect their relationship.
“She is Jake’s superior at just about everything. Super smart, focused, dedicated, and of course being French means she has the power of love. She can also be loyal, tenacious, and tough. I do not want to have her and Jake in a relationship where they both are risk averse because of a family.”
The author has his hero on a quest to find the killers. Readers get to take a journey with Jake as he and Genevieve try to eliminate the threat to him and find the traitor within.

2020 / 50
Aperçu of the week:
I know what I want. And I want it now. (Mr. Vain / Culture Beat)
Bad news of the week:
For months the negotiations between the EU and Great Britain on a trade agreement that is to regulate cooperation after the Brexit have been stalled. This is because the official transition phase ends on 31.122020, after which without an agreement only the standard rules of the WTO would apply - with considerable disadvantages for both parties. The process is being slowed down mainly by Boris Johnson, who finally has won the last elections in the United Kingdom with the slogan "Get Brexit done!".
The day before yesterday, another round of negotiations ended without any significant progress. The main sticking points are still border regulations for Northern Ireland, fishing rights in the North Sea, comparable competition regulations and control mechanisms for the desired agreement. EU negotiator Michel Barnier is doing his best to reach a fair deal, his British counterpart David Frost is practically not moving at all. How can it be different: for years UK politics has been absurdly telling the (electoral) people that the EU has always demanded sacrifices and the country now finally wants his sovereignty back.
That is simply nonsense. For one thing, Great Britain has always profited and even negotiated special rights as the only member state - see "We want our money back!" by Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher. And for another, no matter what the interaction, there has always to be a set of rules installed. After all, you cannot take part in a soccer match with a pair of fins and a tennis racket and insist that the rules of a chess game apply.
If mankind has learned anything in the last decades, it is that cooperation always pays off. No matter in which socio-political context: A whole is always more than the sum of its parts. Unilateralism brings benefits in the short term at best, in the long run multilateralism is always more profitable for the common good. It is shocking when such a fundamental insight is sacrificed for the golden calf of selfish isolationism. Especially from a country that has experienced the ambivalence of changing nationalist constellations over the centuries.
Good news of the week:
In 1980 German-Swedish philanthropist Jakob von Uexkull established the "Right Livelihood Award". Before he tried to convince the Nobel Prize Committee to reconsider their categories so that such fields as environmental protection, human rights, sustainable development, health, education, and peace would be more present. But the Swedish council wanted to stick to their more academic approach. Since than the Right Livelihood Award is known, especially in Europe, as the "Alternative Nobel Price".
Different to the Nobel Prize whose selection process is holy secret it has an open nomination process: anyone can nominate anyone else, except close relatives or their own organizations. This leads to public discussions about who should be shined by that light for their honorable cause. This years winners as announced last week are:
Ales Bialiatski, a civic leader in Belarus and former prisoner of conscience known for his work with the Human Rights Centre “Viasna”. Bryan Stevenson, an US-American lawyer, law professor, social justice activist and founder of the Equal Justice Initiative. Lottie Cunningham Wren, a lawyer in Nicaragua who fights for the rights of indigene people and their resources.
And last not least Nasrin Sotoudeh, a human rights lawyer in Iran. She has represented imprisoned Iranian opposition activists, prisoners sentenced to death for crimes committed when they were minors and women arrested for appearing in public without a hijab, which is a punishable offence in her homeland. Currently Sotoudeh is imprisoned herself, convicted of charges relating to her work.
Through this award they all not only experience the respect of the general public for their personal efforts, but above all their social concerns benefit from public attention. Thank you very much for your commitment!
Sense of achievement of the week:
About once a week we play "Who am I?" at dinner. With questions that can only be answered with yes or no, you have to find out which personality or something you got from the others. This goes from Queen Elizabeth II. to Hulk and Buzz Aldrin to the neighbors' dog. It makes sense that all players know the personality that is searched for. Which is sometimes difficult because I don't know any TikTok stars and my Canadian girlfriend doesn't know any German soccer players. My 12-year-old son made me quite proud this week, because we were able to play here near the Bavarian Alps with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Malala Yousafzai.
