 . . . GOJO SATORU SEEN WITH ANOTHER WOMAN AT NYFW was not the headline you wanted to wake up to. it was a lazy saturday morning, and you didn't have any plans for the day. your boyfriend, the prominent gojo satoru, was currently in new york for fashion week. you had been dating for almost a year, having met a little over six years ago at club heaven in los angeles on his birthday by pure accident. the japanese born model had been dragged to america for his twenty first birthday, and spilled his drink on you. he hasn't left the states since. he's established himself in the modeling world, and fashion week was the busiest time of year for him. being a singer / songwriter yourself, you had quite the busy schedule. your bustling schedules were part of the reason it took so long for you and satoru to get together. there was mutual pining, but you both spent so much of your time in different cities and airports, that there seemed to be no point in it. but geto made a joke that if satoru didn't bag you, then he would, and that about did it for satoru. sure, dating hasn't been easy, but you've made it work. satoru had moved in with you in your luxury apartment in the hills of los angeles, though neither of you were there often. after all, you were both a lister celebrities. everyone knew your names, especially the paparazzi. 

neither of you were big fans of the paps, satoru especially. you tried to show grace, after all, they were just trying to do their jobs. but their jobs were to be nosy and wrongfully invade your privacy. there were always headlines about you and satoru, the rumours and scandals never seemed to end, but for some reason, this one hit home. your phone read 10:01 a.m. you were in your los angeles apartment, so you were three hours behind satoru. you didn't have any notifications from him, which was weird, because he usually made a point to send you a good morning text before you woke up, no matter what timezone you were in. even if it meant satoru had to set an alarm for two a.m. so that you would wake up with a "good morning, baby," then he would set an alarm. in fact, the only notification you had was a text from shoko, with a link to the article. "have you seen this??" her text read. you clicked the link and it opened a separate page for people magazine. it took all your strength not to roll your eyes. people was your number one enemy when it came to tabloids. they always fabricated such stupid things, so you didn't think much of it at first. still, you read the article word for word. 

"gojo satoru was seen today eating lunch with fellow model, iori utahime, at new york's own per se. gojo and iori have been friends for a while now, but are they more?" you scoffed, adjusting yourself in your large bed, continuing on. "gojo and irori are currently in new york for fashion week, and were photographed outside per se for a late lunch before tonight's opener. the photos were quickly posted, and the response was a mix of emotions. in the string of photos, we see gojo and iori sharing a laugh... while holding hands? in a few, his arm was tightly wrapped around iori's waist as he escorts her out of the restaurant. a few nights prior, photos had of gojo and iori sharing drinks at an elite club on eighth had been released, where they seemed more than friendly. that same night, the took shared a taxi, stumbling into the hotel together. social media shares our reply: has gojo's partner seen this and what do they have to say about it?" the article was short and sweet, but it did the trick. the photos had been attached, as well as a slew of twitter posts. #satohime was the third trending tag on twitter. tears stung your eyes as you white-kunckled your phone in your hand.

you were torn between believing and not believing the article. you knew satoru would never cheat on you, but the evidence was right in front of you. he was out with another woman, someone he's known longer than you, holding hands and wrapping himself close to her. you'd never met utahime, but satoru always returned from fashion week, brimming with stories about her that made him laugh until his stomach cramped. you knew they were close, despite only seeing each other twice a year, they'd grown up together. you tried to tell yourself that maybe it was just a rumour, photos taken out of context. after all, it wasn't anything drastic, like a vulgar makeout video, but it still made you sick. so you did the only thing you knew hot to when it come to your emotions: you wrote a song.

NEW UPLOAD : THE GIRL IN NEW YORK flashed across gojo satoru's screen. it was a youtube notification for your channel. he frown slightly at the words, wondering what you were thinking about when writing this. he was at work right now, so he silenced his phone. satoru would listen to the song on the cab ride back to his hotel. he hadn't heart about the people's magazine yet, despite it being published six hours ago. satoru had been so busy with the fashion week presentations and rehearsals, that lunch with utahime had been the first time in a few days he'd left skylight clarkson. in fact, he'd been so busy, that he'd forgotten to charge his phone the night before. it was currently charging, thanks to utahime letting him borrow hers. satoru felt bad for failing to send you a text, but surely you'd understand if it was just one time. utahime wasn't a model like satoru, instead a manager for one of the labels. fashion week in februar and september were some of the only times they saw each other anymore. every february they swore they'd try to see each other more that year, but sepember would always be the second time they saw each other that year. their schedules just didn't allow for it. and even though satoru was a major pain in the ass to utahime, she prized his friendship. they made a point to spend as much time together during fashion week as possible, hence the drinks and lunch.

when the night had finally ended, satoru was exhasted and couldn't wait to return to his hotel bed. it wasn't as good as sleeping next to you, but he could fall asleep on a bag of dirt at this point. satoru stumbled into a taxi, giving the location of his hotel, and pulled his phone from his bag. it was charged now, and your youtube notification sat prettily on his lockscreen, which was a picture of you laughing with your head thrown back. satoru fumbled in the dark of the cab to find his headphones, finally pairing them to his phone and playing the song. "bags in your hand as you kiss me, tellin' me you're gonna miss me. promised me you'll be on you best behavior." your sultry voice entered his ears as the song started slow, a gentle piano and slow guitar riff. "gave me your flight information, call me when you land, say you made it. sweet little me told you, 'go have a good time.'" the song picked up the pace, transitioning into the pre-chorus and chorus. "i didn't mean forget about me, riding in a yellow taxi. who the hell are you on your way to?" satoru was almost too tired to notice the lyrics. almost. "you said i was yours, but maybe just on the west coast, cause as soon as you left home, you got wandering eyes.

"so i guess you lied when you called me special. you're not as smart as you think you are. who the hell is she, taking you from me?" as the song continued, he was more awake with every bar. "fuck you for making me crazy, while you buy her drinks out on eighth street." were you talking about utahime? wait, did you think he had done something? satoru was so confused, consumed by your obscure lyrics. the song ended too soon for his taste, none of his questions being answered by your final line. "baby, i know about the girl in new york..." your voice faded, his headphones going silent. having reached the hotel, satoru rushed to his room, immediately opening his laptop to do some digging. his phone had been silence all day, and when satoru opened his messages app to see if you had said anything, he was instaed hit with over three hundred texts from shoko and suguru. neither sounded happy with him, while satoru still had no idea what he did. before even acknowledging their texts, he went straight to your conversation. "darling, what's going on with your new song??" he typed out quickly, then added, "not that i don't love it! just kinda confused." he watched as delivered turned to read, which resulted in those damn three dots making two additional appearances before completely disappearing. satoru let out a groan of frustration, going to google and searching your names together. the first thing that popped up was an article from people magazine. "gojo satoru seen with another woman at nyfw." the headline read. fuck, how he hated the paparazzi.

satoru skimmed the article, not pleased with what he was reading. his confusion dissipated into annoyance, both towards you and the fucking paps. you always told him to be nicer towards the media, they were just trying to their job, but these fucking rumours were getting out of hand. how dare they make you think he would ever cheat on you? satoru didn't suffer a friendship with you for five years while being enamored with you every action for one damn article about him and utahime. all of those pictures had been taken out of context. the one where they were holding hands? utahime had tripped on a sewer grate and satoru had reached out so she didn't fall flat on her face. the one with his arm around her waist? they were both completely shitfaced and barely standing on their own. the ones about them at the club and the taxi? satoru can handle a drink or two, but uta gets hammered after two drinks, so of course he was going to take her back to her hotel and make sure she got up all right. that's what friends are for. but now, thanks to the media, he's got a lying article, pissed off friends and a song tearing him to pieces written by the love of his life, who may not ever want to see him again. great, just fucking great.

he dialed your number. you declined it before the first ring. he did this four more times, with you rejecting the call instantly. on the sixth call, there was no rings, and an automated voice responded, "i'm sorry, the number you are trying to reach is not in service or temporarily disconnected. please try again later. good bye." oh my god, you fucking blocked him. irritated with you, the media and with himself for making you feel so insecure, he scrolled to his group chat with shoko and suguru. neither of them were happy with gojo. he didn't bother to read all their messages, he got the gist of it. satoru hastily responded, "i didn't fucking cheat. the article's lying. one of you need to tell them that because i'm fucking blocked." he sent the message, standing in a silent fury. a moment later, satoru threw his phone at the wall with a yell. the device bounced off, falling onto the hotel bed. there was a small dent in the wall nothing extremely noticeable, and his phone was fine. "fuck," satoru breathed, sinking into one of the chairs in his room. he held his head in his hands, mind racing with what to do. an idea formed in his frustrated mind. it was stupid, but it was something. satoru grabbed his jacket and his phone from the bed, storming out of the hotel.

THE SOUND OF SOMEONE POUNDING ON YOUR DOOR pulled you from delirium. groggily, you checked your phone. it was just past four am. who the hell would be at the door at four in the morning? you rolled over in bed, hoping whoever it was would go away. they didn't. they just kept beating at the wood. with a groan, you rose from the mattress. a headache slammed into you as you stood, and you had to sit back down to steady yourself. the last eighteen hours hadn't exactly been fun. after you uploaded "the girl in new york", you had turned your notifications for everything off. although, every five minutes you checked if satoru had texted you. when he finally did, you didn't know how to respond, the images from the article flashing across your mind and filling you with sickness and sadness. you had been out all day, drinking and trying to forget. after getting kicked out of two bars, you went home, where you drank more. throughout the night you emptied the contents of your stomach and eyes, vomiting and crying more than what felt humanely possible. it felt like you had barely lied down when the knocking began.

when you had mustered the strength to stagger your way to the door, you wished you had stayed in bed. a red eyed, messy haired, heaving gojo satoru stood at your door. neither of you spoke. what was there to say? he had cheated on you. you had retaliated with an exposing song. or maybe he hadn't cheated on you, and you simply misunderstood. either way, what had happened, happened. as far as you were concerned, he was here to beg for your forgiveness. you began to shut the door, but he stopped you. with a sigh, you let him in. it was his apartment, too, after all. you wobbled to the kitchen, leaning against the counter and pouring yourself a glass of water. satoru watched you in silence. "well?" you croaked out. "come to apologize? gloat?"

"baby..." he whispered, stretching his arms out to you, but retracting when you took a step back. satoru took a breath, steadying himself. "i didn't cheat," he stated plainly. "i know you think i did. but i didn't. uta is just a friend. i've never thought of her that way, and i'm never going to think of her like that. i'm not dating her, i'm dating you." his words sounded slightly reheards. he must've been practicing on his flight here. it dawned on you that it was four in the morning in los angeles, and seven a.m. in new york. satoru was missing fashion week, here, trying to fix things. a flight from nyc to la was just over six hours, so he would've had to get on a plane by one am est. he had texted you just after eight fifty p.m. pst, so eleven fifty new york time. which means almost as soon as he heard your song, he was on his way to the airport to fly to you. "please baby, you gotta believe me. those paps fucked everything up, the photos-"

"are they fake?" you cut him off. "the photos. are the fake? photoshopped or otherwise edited?"

gojo slightly squirmed, "well, no, they're not edited, but they were taken out of context." he rushed out the last part of his sentence. "please, love, just hear me out."

he looked like a disaster. satoru's normally bright irises were dim, the usual joy gone. he looked sleepless, violent violet bags forming like bruises under his red-rimmed eyes. his fluffy white hair was flat against his forehead, matted and lifeless. he was still in his work clothes, with his favorite blue jacket hanging open on his shoulders. satoru looked like he hadn't ate or slept in the last eighteen hours. maybe it was how pitiful he looked maybe it was how much you still loved him. but you nodded your head, allowing for satoru to explain. his sigh was audible, and some color returned to his eyes.

"okay, first, i love you so fucking much. i've loved you since that first night we met into the bar six years ago. if you don't forgive me tonight, or ever, i'm still going to spend the rest of my life trying to make up for the hurt that i've cause you from that stupid article. i didn't cheat on you, not with utahime or with anyone else. i spent five years trying to work up the nerve to ask you out, i'm not going to let you go easily." satoru meant every word he said, his tone convinced you of that. "second," he continued, "is that the paparazzi are always pulling things out of their asses, we know this. the first photo they talked about, the one with me and utahime at per se, where we were holding hands? her heel had got caught on a sewer grate, and uta tripped. i grabbed her hand to prevent her falling on her face, which honestly, would've been funnier." you chuckled lightly, and a smile formed on satoru's lips. from his perspective, this was going much better than he had anticipated. "the next photo with my arm around her waist, utahime was so drunk, she could barely stand. i was pretty drunk, too. we were the only ones keeping each other up. same with the pictures of us outside the club on eighth. i wasn't as drunk in that one, but she was pretty hammered. i didn't feel comfortable just sending uta off in a cab back to her hotel. something easily could've happened to her, so i went back with utahime to her hotel. nothing happened between me and her," satoru finished. quiet settled over you two again as you contemplated his words.

everything he said made sense. you wanted to believe him so badly, but you weren't there yourself. "okay," you said slowly, after what felt like an eternity to satoru.

"okay? wh-what does that mean? does... does that mean you believe me?"

you took a deep breath. "i believe you."

those three words were all he needed to hear. satoru rushed over to you, his body engulfing you in a crushing embrace. "oh, thank god," he breathed into your hair. when he pulled back, his blue eyes were shining once again. satoru almost kissed you, forgetting his exhaustion, but your hangover still gripped at you. you winced at his strength, your arms hanging limply at your side. satoru whispered out an apology, guiding you back to bed. before you both finally found the sleep you desperately needed, you mumbled, "i'm sorry about the song."

satoru laughed quietly, resting his head in the crook of your neck. "don't be, i think it's your best one yet."

She’s trans and bisexual. I’m actually not sure about whether she’s officially trans or not within the story. A lot of things point to it! But there hasn’t really been any confirmation and some of the out of universe talk about her muzzies things further (like, for instance, the official twitter account calling her a brother and husband, and seeming confused as to whether she’s a man or not) so for right now, this is a veeeery strongly supported by canon headcanon

She loves the Flower Knows makeup brand. For anyone unfamiliar with them, here’s some examples of their makeup! They’ve got stunningly gorgeous packaging, but sometimes she wonders if they’re not too… Childish looking for a woman her age? Who cares, it’s beautiful!

These are from their Swan Ballet collection, so I feel like Miyako wouldn’t be able to resist something this pretty and elegant…

She fell in love with Kei at first encounter. They met during Miyako’s university years, sharing a class together. Out of the three siblings, she takes after their parents an equal amount for personality. Iori is more like their dad. Yumikage is more like Shirayuki, but he got corrupted early by bad influences so it doesn’t show as much (lol)

She’s the sort of person who celebrates a six month anniversary with her lover.

Her favorite colors are deep, dusky blues that verge on purple and cream yellows that are almost white

She worries a lot about the gifts she wants to give to people, but it hardly ever shows. Very put together but flamboyant. Partially this is as a shield against the way others might treat her, but she’s also just naturally a cheerful person

Like the rest of her siblings, she’ll laugh at you for failing, but it’s not out of malice. Usually. They’re all just kinda assholes.

She reeeeally wishes she had a younger sister. Instead she got Yumikage, which is like. The worst option. She loves him but he’s soooo uncute. … She’s glad that he’s happy.

In the original text, Haruka sends a casual text to the group chat, then corrects his tone by adding “ですか” (desu ka) in a separate message. Momo and mitsuki tease him about it by sending casual messages then following it up with “ですか”. This kind of polite speech doesn’t exist in English, so this was the closest way to convey the OG conversation’s tone

This is another joke that can’t be properly conveyed in English without further context, Momo and Mitsuki start adding “や” (ya) at the end of their messages which is a form of speech under a style called “yakuwarigo”, used in manga/anime (amongst other forms of media) to indicate age. The “ya” in this case is added to elderly characters’ speech, hence why I chose to add the “ol’ man” so that Haruka’s comment makes sense.

i really need to talk about why Gestalt is the perfect song to kick off Kaf's new era a little bit or i'm going to explode

talking about this requires some background knowledge and i'm aware most people who are going to read this probably don't know that much about Kaf so i'll talk about her history a little bit - Gestalt is Kaf's first solo release in a whole year. this is a considerably long time for her, and it's because the person who had been writing her songs for/with her for her entire career, Kanzaki Iori, left Kamitsubaki Studio early last year due to personal complications with himself as an artist (he is still on very good terms with Kaf and the rest of Kamitsubaki's staff!!)

additionally, Kaf's music with Kanzaki had always primarily been centered on various bittersweet and painful themes, but especially the pain of growing up/becoming an adult. this was especially pertinent because Kaf started Being Kaf when she was 14 years old, so she was singing from a place of genuine teenage angst. as she began to inch closer to adulthood and then became an adult herself, however, the feeling of her music shifted from singing about a far-off adult future, to an incredibly immediate one, with songs like her final song with Kanzaki, Kaikou, but especially Kyoukankaku which also came out during those last few months of Kanzaki being around. (i will spare you a whole ramble about these songs, you just have to take my word on the thematics up to this point lol. feel free to look into it further if you like)

so, Kanzaki leaving left Kaf in a bit of a limbo state for a while since so much of her musical identity was built off of her work with him and the topics they explored. she would need to form a new musical identity and figure out where to go from Kanzaki leaving... she spent about a year releasing her last songs with him as well as pumping out covers and collaboration songs with other musicians. but now, finally, she's back to releasing her own work! Gestalt was actually debuted at her KAIKA concert back in January, but only now has the studio release and full music video come out.

Gestalt is representational of her finally entering her new era after this big transitional period. even the official english description for Gestalt says:

KAF embarks on the next stage of her journey.

and oh boy does she!!!

Gestalt looks and feels like a super fun dance song in both the song itself and the MV. the description also says:

Over a year since KAF's last solo release, "Gestalt" is a 'killer dance tune' for the modern age.

and they're right. it is a killer dance tune. this shit slaps. but there's more to it than that.

it's immediately apparent when looking at the lyrics that there's more going on here - take this bit from the official english translation of the first verse for example:

From emotions to configurations When they start to break down I lose all understanding In so many ways Ahh I can't breathe Celebrating suffocation I can't take this

doesn't sound very fun or happy right? sounds chaotic. kaf is suffocating. she is losing her shit. but then it's followed up with:

Drop the beat! This disruptive Unnatural Forbidden gathering "Don't come here" "Don't look there" This is where it all starts to get good It's greedy Warped and twisted But hold me tight It's so hard to get it right, this losing game Seems like working together is the only way

to me, this is Kaf inviting the audience to dance with her amidst the chaos that she and all of us are suffocating in. the "unnatural and forbidden gathering" part is referring to how her and all of us are outcasts of society, how us trying to dance and experience joy while suffocating is looked at strangely. but the only way to survive in "this losing game" (of adult life) is to Work Together! be together!! dance together!!

that idea of being together in spite of suffering is the core message of the entire song, which is even brought out by its title, Gestalt. Gestaltism is essentially the idea that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, that the whole is worth more than the individual components. both the title and the lyrics of the song emphasize togetherness and dancing as a whole.

this is already a much more optimistic take on those themes of Adulthood Hard and Life Is Pain, portrayed in a much peppier way than Kaf is generally used to. it's familiar, it feels like Kaf, but there's a new spin on it now! it really feels like Kaf is debuting her new era with explosive energy. it's very much "i lived bitch" to me - she's an adult now like she always dreaded being but despite it all she's dancing within the chaos and you should join her for that in this new era!!

but it actually goes deeper than that, because Kaf's MVs have always been made thoughtfully and usually pertain to the meaning of the song, and this one is no different. the animation also ties back into this transition and meaning.

^ these screencaps are from Gestalt (2024) and Just Forget About It (2019) respectively. both music videos were directed by Kawasaki Kenji, who worked on most of Kaf's older music videos and was the person who defined her visual style for a good portion of her career. older Kaf MVs almost always had some element of Kaf existing in real life environments, like some sort of alien girl wandering the streets of Tokyo. she was often put into very mundane locations with a good amount of wide shots, creating this ethereal feeling.

well, Kenji implements those themes into Gestalt for sure... a lot of the MV feels like an older Kaf MV. but there's a couple MAJOR differences...

instead of just idling around and looking wistful like in her older videos, she is DANCING!! and the usual typography in her videos is extremely stylized and much more colorful than usual, plus the environments are decorated with a ton of colorful and overlapping shapes breaking up the relatively mundane and even melancholic looking environment (for the record, "gestalt" is also a type of visual design involving closed shapes, so the typography and shape language here also ties into the title of the song lol).

essentially what they've done here is draw back on the Kaf everyone knows and loves but gone hey, now it's colorful and explosive and high energy! this is new, too!! which is exactly what the song is trying to do as well! familiar themes but portrayed in a completely new light

and as one last aside, it is also worth mentioning real quick that Kaf's current outfit for the year or so, Raichou, was debuted at her concert in January where this song was also debuted, and while not specific to Gestalt, her character designer PALOW really made sure to change how Kaf looks a lot more than usual this time for her new era. Kaf has a new main look every year or so and those outfits can define entire eras for her, and usually they're darker and heavier on the blue, but Raichou is nearly devoid of any blue and has a very different feel. they even changed her hair to be cut flat, something she hasn't done before.

anyways TLDR; my takeaway from Gestalt is i'm dancing with Kaf in this new era amidst the world being on fire so hard. joy and whimsy in the face of suffering bitch‼️get ready because Kaf is going to keep making banger music in new ways the likes of which we have never seen!!! this song is literally a perfect transitional song drawing on Kaf of old and bringing her into the new. absolutely genius. Piedpiper has done it again. thank you Jazzin'park for your service

I still can't stop thinking about the M27 teaser trailer. Honestly, when the very first teaser (that had played after the credits of M26) became available online without subs or translation, I thought the new movie might have an amnesia sub-plot. Like something happened that would make Kaito forget everything related to Kaitou KID and Heiji and Conan would have to deal with that along with the rest of the movie's plot. Of course, that idea was shot down from the translation, but I got attached to it for fanfic purposes lol.

So, after seeing the new teaser, that first silly impression is slowly becoming a fully fledged fic (is it HeiKai, HeiShin, HeiKaiShin, idk haven't reached that far yet 😅)

Like yeah, I want the dissonance of KID being aware that Heiji knows Conan is Shinichi, and Heiji not really knowing that Kaito looks like Shinichi (because Kudou never tells him any details that are not important for the task at hand). If anything, Heiji probably heard that's an option from Kazuha because Ran kept complaining to her about all the times KID had disguised as Shinichi before (or given recent manga spoilers, even from Hakuba and his suspicions).

That's why when Heiji unmasks him by cutting through his top hat, KID still slips into his Shinichi disguise (after doing it so many times, I'm convinced he can without a mirror at this point). Not because Heiji will believe it, since Conan is right there, but to buy time.

Heiji, of course, is pissed off about it, and given the whole Kidzuha fiasco, he wants to cut KID in half more than play along.

But KID says that he can't help it if disguising as the people that Heiji loves will keep him safe from his wrath. While Heiji has a crisis over what kind of love does he mean, KID makes his escape (recently stolen sword and all). Heiji throws his sword after KID, like a javelin, and unbeknownst to him, actually hits the handglider. KID drops out of the sky, fate unknown.

Next day, Iori shows up to bring Heiji to Momiji's temporary place (will the plot remain in Hokkaido, dunno) as there is a sensitive matter to discuss. Turns out, they found KID somewhere. While they recognize this person looks like Kudou Shinichi, it's still pretty obvious the clothes he had been wearing was KID's outfit. Heiji manages to convince them to bring Conan along, since the suspicion for KID's real identity will fall on his "cousin" and who's better to dispel these kind of rumors.

What neither of them expects when they are left alone with KID though is that one, he doesn't know who he is; two, he doesn't recognize Conan; but three, he remembers Heiji.

For now, I think the sword has something to do with this temporary amnesia (like holding a part of Kaito's soul or sth) since he feels more like himself whenever he's close to it. I also like actual magic shenanigans in the DetCo universe because it means I can make Akako appear (if the magic is real, she can exist. That's my rule lmao).

But that's pretty much what I have of this idea.

I went to Desucon Frostbite this weekend :3

The head organizer commented that it was their 10th year attending Desucon events, and that's actually true for me too, Desucon Frostbite 2014 was one of the first cons I ever attended (never forget and please let me forget).

I always attend the opening and closing ceremonies. This year they did a small performance spoofing Death Note and sentai stuff, which was well made as usual and I'm always impressed by, considering the performers are volunteers and not professionals.

This year's guest of honor was composer and musician Yasuharu Takanashi. He held a concert on Friday night together with Finnish metal musicians I feel some amount of national shame not knowing, because they seemed like fairly big names. I'm not big on metal music, but it's always nice listening to live music, and it was fun to get something to do on Friday night, since most con activities don't start until Saturday. I also attended Takanashi's panel on Saturday, and although I wasn't familiar with the music he composed to Naruto or Fairy Tale, he was an entertaining guest (comes with the profession, some writers/directors they've had in the past have been a little awkward). Me and my friend spent the entire time hungering for a Show By Rock!! mention, as he had apparently worked on that as well, but alas it wasn't brought up and we didn't dare ask him about it during audience questions.

As for other programs, I attended a lecture on character and clothing design in Suisei no Majo, which was really nice and informative. I haven't read any staff interviews on it, so I didn't know anything about the designing process or the people behind it and it was fun to learn about it. I also went to a lecture on analysing yuri, which was disappointing, since it contained little to no actual analyzing on what makes yuri "yuri". They made a lot of jokes about the famous Iori Miyazawa "Yuri Made Me Human" interview and I would've loved to hear their takes on the whole "yuri of absence" concept, how much truth or weight we should put on it, why the yuri classification matters, or if it even matters, considering the freedom and joy of your own interpretations vs. the importance of representation and author intent, or how expectations and readings differs in the West compared to Japan, etc.. Their lecture was on the shorter side and went over some common misconceptions over terminology and reader demographics, which I guess was nice, although I feel like (or at least hope) most people in the room would already be aware of those. Overall I think the lecture description might've been at fault here, because it gave me the impression there would be more actual discussion and analysis on these topics/I misinterpreted what the lecture would be about. At least people seemed to enjoy the jokes.

Then, me and my friend always attend the AMV contest, and this year I left the contest happy, because for once all of my favourite AMV's got honorable mentions or won some of the prizes! The audience favourite award usually goes to some humor video I don't care for, but this year it went to a PMMM video I actually really, really liked!! My other favourites were the PMMM/SKU mashup which worked surprisingly well, and another SKU one. Same series, but very different AMV's lol.

Another tradition I have is to drink the official Desu Drinks, although I should stop because they're small, expensive and not that interesting anymore (Kill la Kill takaisin!!!!). This year I drank "Beck", which contained Finlandia, ginger ale and a slice of lime. It was good, but not "10,50€ good". For Saturday's dinner we went to one of the Indian restaurants that was still operating in Lahti (restaurants DO NOT stay open there). The food was pretty basic, but good, as expected from a place like this.

I brought my Monogatari itabag with me, because I wanted to celebrate the recent Off Season and Monster Season announcements (plus it's fun to use my itabags, and it's quite practical to have a big bag with me even if it weighs a ton lmao). As for merch, I bought Farwell to my Alter by Nio Nakatani at the con flea market for very cheap, and then I FINALLY got my hands on the first volume of March Comes in Like a Lion. I've been wanting to get it from my local shop, but they've never had it when I've been there to look for it. I'm suuuuuper happy to have it in my hands!!!! Then I bought one roll of washi tape from the artist alley with adorable long-tailed tits and plum blossoms. I suppose it's good I didn't spend that much money this con, although there was more manga that tempted me (why must River's Edge be 20€ ugh, maybe next time).

I was also happy to briefly see and chat with some of my kimono friends, and then I finally met up with @akroglam who I've been mutuals with for ...7 years? That was a lot of fun, although I felt like a stalker for all the "I saw that on your twitter/tumblr" comments I made :P

I. PRE-RELATIONSHIP

3 - Who felt romantic feelings first?

Theirs has been a slowburn, but I'd say Iori, despite trying his best to NOT falling for her, since he had been already burned by previous relationships.

4 - Did either of them try to resist their feelings?

As said earlier, Iori tried to resist because his previous relationship ended up badly for different reasons (his first fianceé, picked by his clan, had died trying to stop him from going Riot for the first time and clan members didn't warn her; despite all that, Iori ended up having a few flings in high school, included his first boyfriend, but their relationship wasn't the healthiest). Also, the fear of going Riot on the people he loves is always there, in the back of his mind, torturing him.

6 - What was their "flirting stage" like?

There wasn't acutal "flirting", not in the way one would think, at least. They mostly started to care for each other since the beginning, starting from very "common courtesy" things to realcare: Chizuru stumbled upon Iori after his girlfriend died, and kept him company because she didn't want him to be alone in such a horrible moment; Iori then did the same for her when Maki died, showing up at the funeral and let Chizuru cry and scream and let all her pain out. After that, Iori started visiting the Kagura Shrine often, at first just to check on her, only to find himself more at ease with her as the time passed; Chizuru enjoyed his company and appreciated that he started to lower his defenses around her, showing sides of his personality he would usually keep behind a wall.

II. GENERAL

1 - Who initiated the relationship, and how did they go about it?

None of them, technically. They had developed the habit of spending time together just talking, hanging around, enjoy each other's company and also scouring Chizuru's family archive in the hope to find clues about the Orochi curse. And one night, thanks to a couple beers, they just kissed. When I wrote my first English fic about them I wrote this moment from Iori's PoV so it would be easy to say he felt the need to kiss her… but I think Chizuru had the same idea or else she would have refused, lol.

4 - Were they each other's first anything (kiss, relationship, etc.)?

No. Iori had a fianceé picked by his father and clan who died because of the Riot of Blood (Iori still feels responsible for it, despite not being himself during it and the clan not stepping up and trying to stop him), and his first boyfriend when he was 17 in highschool (but as said it wasn't a great relationship, and left him a bit wary of relationships with men), plus some other minor flings. Chizuru also had a few flirts but nothing that lasted more than a few months: I've explained it better in this post but long story short, not only she's busy running the Shrine and the Kagura Enterprise, but also Japanese men like quiet women who obey their desires, and… well, Chizuru isn't anything like that. She's a fighter, her fights are broadcasted live during the Tournament every year, as well as her keeping Firebois in their place. Something the average Japanese man wouldn't like in a woman at all.

14 - What are some songs that apply to their relationship, in-universe or otherwise?

This line here yells Iori so much, imho. And we'll ignore the fact that I used it for other ships of mine, not my fault I'm attracted by the tragic disasters

15 - What is their most common argument about?

The Orochi Curse. Iori is pretty much resigned to die within his 30th birthday (despite still being terrified of dying), while Chizuru is determined to find a solution for it (and in one of my fanfics, she did). So they often argues about scouring the archives of her family hoping to find a solution, and doing the same in the Yagami/Yasakani archives since Iori refuses to go back home just for this (but since in my verses he has a twin sister, Chizuru asks her to bring some documents everytime she comes to see her brother). Even worse when the idea of asking the Kusanagi to see their archives: Chizuru is sure Saisyu would accept, but Iori refuses still hiding behind the feud and also because of Kyo (who would complain because KYO).

Minor arguments are usually about Chizuru's love for spicy food, because it happened that she didn't brushed her teeth after a meal, and when she kissed him not only on his lips Iori didn't appreciate the sensation XD

III. LOVE

2 - What are their primary love languages?

Mostly small gestures, and look out for each other: during the Years Chizuru learned Iori always finds himself at ease when he's at the estate and around her, thanks to her Yata powers keeping Orochi sealed, so she lets him falling asleep and take naps at her place knowing he'll finally have a good rest without nightmares; she would usually hug him and brush his hair until he's fully relaxed.

Iori on the other hand loves to cook, so he's always the one cooking meals when they're together, keeping in mind what she likes more and stocking on her favorite spicy snacks and spices. He's also in generally very protective.

12 - Who remembers the little things?

Both, mostly because being both rich picking gifts for each other is a challenge (they can easily buy any pricey stuff they want/need), but it's mostly Iori's love language: he despises the spicy food Chizuru adores, but always stocks on spices, spicy noodles and everything she might enjoy for when she sleeps at his place (or to buy if he spends the night at her estate, since he usually cooks); he'd also would buy those spicy chocolate bars because he know Chi would like them, the vodka she prefers (my beloved couple of functioning alcoholics), the wax she uses to take care of her bike or new leather gloves if the ones she uses are too worn out.

15 - What gifts do they typically give each other?

As said in the previous questions, they mostly gift each other small things that would mean a lot to the other: spicy snacks for Chizuru (Iori travels a lot with his band, so he always looks out for something she might like), books she might enjoy, etc; Chizuru knows Iori loves music, books and cats, so small trinkets with cats on it or cat-shaped, bands t-shirts or nerdy ones (my Iori collects both, along with bi-pride shirts), etc. Small gifts, but that are 100% guaranteed to be loved.

IV. DOMESTIC LIFE

2 - If they get married, who proposes, and how do they do it? Would they change their surnames?

No real proposal (not in the classic trope way), I always imagined it happening while they're talking something vaguely related (like, Mai finally having the wedding of her dreams or something, or just talking about Iori moving to the Yata estate). I don't think any of them would change their last name, to keep both clans still "alive".

3 - What is the wedding like? Who attends?

No wedding, they elope. At first Chizuru wanted to have a ceremony with all her friends, mostly because everyone (Mai especially, but also her clan) seemed to have expectations… but she ended up getting incredibly stressed by the whole ordeal, so Iori just proposed her to elope, go away somewhere nice just the two of them and then, if she still wants it, have a party once they're back in Osaka.

9 - How do they celebrate holidays?

It really depends by what kind of holiday it is and if one of them (or both) are busy with their jobs - mikus are busy daily running the Shrine, and Iori might be out of Japan with his band or busy recordings new song/a show/a concert/etc. But when possible, they enjoy spend their free time together relaxing, or booking a trip when possible (like during the Golden Week).

Not really. A tradition they had, born after Ash stole their treasures, was to meet up weekly at a bar to drink and… complain about it, or complain about Kyo being always uncooperative when it comes to their duties as 3ST, or Iori finally admitting he'd like to befriend him, but knowing that after years of fighting and death threats it won't happen, not easily anyway. They had broken up at that point (Iori broke up with Chi because the fear of going Riot on her and repeating the same terrible mistake never truly left him), so this tradition ended up turning into a way to get close again…

Yuta/Ishigori has to be a thing, but I've surprisingly never seen any fanwork for it.

is ishigori just not very popular? I can see that since the first time I read through the Culling Game arc I was mostly indifferent to the new characters. But upon rereading it, he's one of the ones I actually quite like.

Higuruma is my #1 of course. Loved him the moment we met him.

Kashimo is shockingly popular imo. And Hakari did place right under him in the last jp popularity poll... 18th and 19th respectively. So, I guess their fight was really well received... Actually, among the new characters, they placed the highest. (I mean, I know we knew of Hakari before, but I'm counting him as "new" since we only met him once the Culling Game began.)

Higuruma placed 20th btw.

Takaba is 31st.

Ishigori at a whopping 40th place.

Hana is 42nd.

Rokujushi Miyo at 43rd, then Kirara at 44th. Only 1 vote difference between them. Miyo is the sumo guy. I had to look him up because I didn't remember his name.

Allll the way at 57th we got Hagane Daido (the katana guy) and Uro with 13 votes each.

Reggie Star, Gorilla, and Kogane at 62nd place with 10 votes each... Reggie... I mean, sure I didn't like him, but he's not a bad character. His line about jujutsushi being con artists is one that's constantly brought up in the fandom, and one I personally think about too. The fact that he shares a place with Panda's imaginary brother who only showed up in one chapter and Kogane, the Culling Game's UI, is pretty sad. Lol. Not that Kogane isn't kind of cute, but...

Kurourushi (the cockroach curse *shudder*) is 66th with 9 votes.

ANGEL is somehow lower than that at 69th with 7 votes. (I don't understand jp fandom sometimes. HOW was the ROACH higher than Angel?)

Charles Bernard and Iori Hazenoki at 74th with 6 votes each. Kinda surprised about Hazenoki, tbh. Thought he had the kind of pretty boyish design that'd make him popular. Maybe his cursed technique is too offputting?

Remi at 78th. Deserved, but still a little surprising. She's cute looking.

YOROZU IS 84TH!!!! That's absolutely wild. I guess JJK fans like batshit women a lot less than in other fandoms??? I don't know! She just seems like the type of character that would be a lot more popular than is reflected in the popularity poll. Maybe it's because Megumi is consistently #1 in popularity? So people who like Megumi dislike Yorozu???

Or maybe it has to do with the timing of the poll... Let's see... The voting period ran from March 3rd to March 20th. Yorozu showed on January 28th and her last appearance before voting ended was in chapter 217 when her fight with Sukuna began, March 19th...

Honestly, that's probably where her last-minute votes even came from. So, yea, if given enough time to cook, I have to believe she'd be higher ranked. I mean, I don't even like Yorozu that much! But she feels totally misplaced!

A lot of the newer characters haven't reached the popularity of the older ones huh. Like, I think Ino (27th), Yaga (39th), Riko (47th) are fine, but I would've expected their places to lower more to make room for the newer characters. Then we've got, freaking Jinichi Zen'in at 46th. Or White Jade Dog at 49th! YUJI'S MOVIE TRAINING TEDDY IS AT 51ST!!!

Anyway, some of these new characters are super underappreciated. lol.

i blocked this person because their pinned creeped me out but i am gonna reply to what they said here lol. first of all this is just kind of my observations while watching the show but since i tagged it for blog sorting purposes (and also sorta being curious if other people would agree) i don't blame them for not knowing that. the person with a crest + without a crest is cool and im not actually entirely against hikari and miyako jogress pairing because i thought that episode was handled well and i did like the character growth, it was more just like. Another example of how the girl characters are restricted to only really getting to be symbolically grouped together. like it's odd to me in how the digi anime generally seems to do a good job with writing its female characters in how they get to people with motivations hopes dreams etc and i genuinely really like all of them (i mean i hate sora's main character "growth" arc but that's more a "children being treated like their parents' things" issue than a misogyny issue) but they don't like. i don't know how to put it better but they're just held sort of separate. the best we get is hikari and takeru but even then she often gets left behind while the guys fly ahead for some reason. it's like they wanted to make strong and interesting female characters but at the same time they're scared of alienating their intended audience of young boys if they're just? i don't know like it's very puzzling to me. it just feels like the girls being shoved off in the girl corner a lot but they're allowed to be COOL in the girl corner but they're not allowed to leave it. i guess.

as for purity sorry if me finding miyako having an outburst where she's like "sorry i judge people by how they look and i think this guy is cool so of course i want to be close to him it's just how i am!" is not like, a cool digimental moment to me lmao. how is iori not being true to himself and his values by putting his literal life on the line trying to make a connection with another living being with a soul? honestly i agree the digimentals are pretty nebulous and you could probably make any of them fit anyone, i did say purity didn't fit miyako at all but i more just hated the Justifications. they used for it. it felt like a stretch that they were doing because they had to give her both the digimentals that belonged to the 01 girls. I just think the parallels and symbolism behind iori with purity would be much cooler.

posting here with a lil more detail: my current thoughts on the Charisma House main characters :3

I was drawn to Rikai IMMEDIATELY - one of his songs was actually how I discovered the whole series agshdj (it was this one :3)

I will say that I REALLY don't like the imagery in the MV for his character song, though... the fascist/Imperial motifs and imagery is gross, concerning, and deeply unfortunate, considering that's not part of his character in the actual series :[ but his role as the big brother / caretaker / order-keeper of the house is AMAZING and I love him for that (also, I just love his silliness. his opinions are - at times - a little... different from what I believe, but he's adorable about them, just due to how much conviction he holds)

however... I think that the absolutely BANANAS behaviour that Iori presents has solidified him as my current fave?? or possibly tied with Rikai, since both guys are kiiiind of concerningly relatable? ^^; (don't look too much into that lol) I think he could go about things in a better way (ex. not forcing his housemates to sign his slave contracts sghddk), but I do think that he's also absolutely adorable, and very sweet and silly. also, I NEED HIM TO LOOK AFTER HIMSELF OMGG

Terra, my pretty lad, has SUCH good vibes?? like, he's incredibly vain, yes... he is the Charisma of Self-Love, after all! but he isn't horrible about it, somehow? he's also SO clever in how he convinces people to do things his way, especially Iori and Sarukawa ^w^ also, the gender envy is so real with him, omgg...

and Amahiko is so supportive, it's actually adorable!! the way he acts is at times REALLY gross, and waaaaaaaay too forward (like that scene in the shower with Sarukawa... eugh), but he's surprisingly sweet at other times? idk. he's a TOTAL perv, but also... quite nice. and SILLY!!

and Ohse... hooooooooo boy. I adore this man. he deeply concerns me, and his behaviour genuinely scares me, but he's also just... so lovely. he's shockingly talented and creative, so caring, clever, and seems like he could be really fun to be around. y'know, if he didn't keep trying to... well, remove himself from existence all the time :( (side note, his songs SLAP)

then comes Fumiya... because I cannot figure him out for the life of me! he's an enigma in my mind, with the only descriptors in place being "VIBES" and "kinda babby, tbh." he confuses me otherwise, though... which suits his Charisma, actually??

lastly... Sarukawa Kei. that obstinate man would be a NIGHTMARE to be around. he needs to contradict every single thing, which - unless you managed to work around it, like Terra did - would be SO FUCKING FRUSTRATING AAAAA. plus, with the amount of first aid that that boy needs on a near daily basis... oof. he does care for his housemates, though, which is REALLY sweet. that makes him significantly more likable, but not really more tolerable to me, unfortunately. he can do as he pleases, I suppose...

More OC art!!! This time we have Hibiki and Niji!! Casual clothes bc idk what either of their hero uniforms really look like yet lmao

Fun fact: I hadn't intended to pair either of them with anyone (I have a few ships worked out for their class so far but neither of them were rly involved) but then I was writing Shrinking Violets and decided to add Hibiki in there since he does his internship with Mic in Parallelism and I went “hmm I should give him someone to date” and I went with Niji bc I could see them getting together down the line in Parallelism so I guess that's canon now lol

Some short bios for them are included — these hold true for both Parallelism and Shrinking Violets since SV being omegaverse doesn’t affect their backstories as much as it does some of my other OCs (*stares at Hikaru*), but they are mostly for Parallelism since that is the original work they are from.

Iori Hibiki (庵 響) (the character for Iori means hermitage or retreat (like a spiritual retreat), while the character for Hibiki means sound or echo)

Cis gay guy, uses he/him pronouns, demiromantic though he wouldn’t phrase it that way. Uses ore around people he's close to and when he gets super emotional, uses boku the rest of the time.

His quirk Muffle allows him to muffle sounds, either coming from an object or around a person to keep them from hearing anything. His parents met while working for the HPSC and were part of a (now defunct) program that paired together people with compatible quirks and paid them to have kids in the hopes they would have powerful/useful quirks. Not dissimilar to how Enji and Rei met, except the program specifically paired people with similar/complementary quirks. His mom can make people deaf for short periods of time while his dad can redirect acoustic energy (sound).

A recommendation student, Hibiki has a bit of a chip on his shoulder bc his parents are always comparing him to his older sister, Suzuko. He bleached his hair blond shortly before high school started in an act of rebellion (his sister helped; it was originally black) and found he actually liked how it looked, so he keeps it that way now. He likes comfortable, simple clothing and clothes that are easy to move around in. He is 5'7" when he starts high school, and by the time they graduate he's about 6'.

His fighting style is mostly hand to hand, though he is also skilled in the use of tonfa. His hero name is Silencer.

Egawa Niji (江川 虹) (the character for E means bay or inlet, while the character for gawa means river or stream; the character for Niji means rainbow)

Nonbinary (or X-gender), masc presenting and AMAB, uses xe/xir/xem pronouns but doesn’t mind too much if ppl use he/him accidentally. Xe is attracted to pretty people who can beat xem up, so is a bit of a simp for most of the people in xir class lol (xe likes needling Hibiki a lot). Uses jibun to refer to xemself most of the time, but will occasionally use boku.

Xir quirk Coloration allows xem to control colored liquids — the more saturated in color the liquid is, the easier it is to control. Something like Coke is easier to control than, say, lemonade, and xe wouldn’t be able to control uncolored water or Sprite at all if it was in a clear container. Xe can manipulate these liquids into vapors or ice, but that takes practice to be able to do easily and quickly.

That is xir natural hair and eye color, most of xir family has very flashy colored hair and eyes — they think there may have been someone with a peacock quirk a few generations back. Xe has an eye for color and likes fun clothes that pop, though given xir height (xe is 5’11” at the start of high school, by the time xe graduates xe’re nearly 6’6”) xe has a tough time finding things that fit. Xir favorite hero is Best Jeanist and xir favorite sweet is cotton candy.

Xir hero name is Watercolor and xe carries around a couple bottles of colored water with them as well as small containers of vibrant, non-toxic dyes xe can use to dye water or any other liquid in a pinch (xe can control the dyes as well).

ahhh i feel all of this completely! and thank you for replying/enjoying that post i made heheh. sorry for long post coming back at you but i have so much to say.

part of the reason why i got so attached to rise was the fact it felt like the hunter really has history with kamura. i think it even really started with just the way hinoa and minoto are in the opening cutscene, barging into your house in such a familiar way lol. and then when you talk to all the villagers, so many of them just... know you. the hunter is an established character themself, and i think the fact they finally gave them voiced lines in battle also helped. when i started playing, i didn't expect to ever feel any kind of emotional attachment in this game because yeah, previous monhuns have really just been about "go hunt the monster" while talking to npcs that don't have actual names. but rise wound up being so different with the colorful cast. it wasn't until my second playthrough that i really kept up with ayame's growth from beating herself up for being injured, to becoming determined to hunt again. and learning about hamon's fear of palamutes but eventually learning to understand iori's hobby of taking care of them. there's even bits of character development with utsushi LOL... here's one example, but there's another example where after that, eventually when you get to the primordial malzeno fight, he fully trusts that you'll be okay on your own, no longer afraid of you getting hurt.

and coming to the point that, yeah! it IS easy to miss this flavor text! i wish you didn't have to go out of the way for it, but at the same time if they had put this all on the forefront in the story, would a majority of monhun fans like that? i would've loved that, but i think it would have made this game even more divisive, so who knows... i was watching a really good video critique of rise, and while i liked the points they gave, even the ones i didn't agree with, i had to do a double take because OP said something along the lines of like "having a setting where you feel lived in and a part of the thing makes it more immersive" and i was like YEAH- only to hear them follow up with "rise doesn't do this, is dull, and not as immersive" and i got so confused because i was like... did we play the same game??? rise literally did that, at least more than any previous monhun I've played. but i realized that maybe OP was critiquing the fact the colorful dialogue IS missable. which, yeah- i would even point out that maybe for people who didn't pay attention to kagero and yomogi's flavor text, or never got to read the sunbreak story about kagero's letter/their history that they released on Twitter/social media, the title update 5 cutscene could have been confusing to see such an emotional scene out of nowhere without context. It makes me wonder what Rise could have been if it weren't affected by the pandemic.

funny thing- now i'm so sorry for this, but i need to explain the utsushi rabbit hole

i wound up getting attached to utsushi and finding his japanese fan community late 2021, and ive been chatting with them since. I found out that, a lot of ppl also experienced the same thing i did and what you mentioned: they missed a lot of utsushi's flavor text in base rise bc they didn't talk to him much, and therefore didn't even think much of him until after the fact. I think what really got things going was when they released his DLC voice and learned about his... extremely affectionate lines when it comes to mew mew and blowing a kiss LOL. even for me, I only picked up on utsushi's antics once i saw the official art of him (realizing "hey he's got a cute design actually") and eventually encountering utsushi x hunter fanart on pixiv

things went deeper than i expected...

i confirmed that ppl really did notice that it was unusual for an instructor character to refer to his pupil in japanese as "manadeshi (beloved/dearest disciple)" and be so close to the hunter. he was already popular enough that by valentine's day 2022, fans literally sent chocolates to capcom addressed to utsushi. i knew about this for a while, but i was shook that they wound up officially addressing that this really happened during the last update video. after they received his chocolates, they immediately got one of the (i believe female) illustrators on rise to draw that really cute valentine's day art of utsushi. the japanese tweet for that artwork had even a little bit more text than the english one...

that "i'll always be watching over you" line... we started to suspect capcom had been seeing that niche fan community's love for utsushi, and they started to kind of troll us??? LOL

throughout the previews of sunbreak last year, they would start obsessively sneaking utsushi into those chibi artworks. and when npc followers were announced, people were scrambling to find out if he was going to be one of them, but there was some weird radio silence about him

in one of the earlier trailers that showed the elgado hub for the first time, there was a very short part of the clip where ppl could see someone standing in the distance at the corner of the screen. all the utsushi fans went nuts because they were taking a magnifying glass and zooming up at there wondering if it was really him, because everyone wanted him to be there in sunbreak LOL. of course we'd eventually find out that would be his perch for most of the game :)

it was only during the final preview trailer before the release of sunbreak did they finally announce utsushi as a follower, as if they were saving the best for last. and sunbreak dropped, we got to see him in elgado and enjoy hunting with him, and it didn't end there. he wound up being featured in two of the short stories released last summer, and we would not forget this incident.

when i think about people who didn't really follow flavor texts, i wonder if utsushi joining the hunter in the battle against amatsu was strange, because he has such a spotlight on him, even being the one who allows you to ride an apex. if people didn't love him before, certainly people would love him now finally, during the last update video...

we got this line from the director LOL, finding out that utsushi wound up being his personal favorite character in rise

all in all, i think i mean to say that if you really did keep up with the flavor text of rise, the pay off was even better! and it is a shame when this stuff is mostly optional or you have to go out of the way for it. but making a monhun where story and character interactions are more on the forefront... i hope if they do it, then they do it in a way where everyone can enjoy it and not feel like they missed out. i hope that future monhuns keep giving us colorful casts to have fun with

sometimes i regret the way i titled the unhinged thread of screenshots supporting utsushi's undying passion for the hunter, because i know how annoying it is when people are like "MY SHIP IS CANON THIS IS WHY" ... but u know i'm all about peace and love and im just a lil insane over these details and i love all the hunter ships. it's just so god damned funny seeing how utsushi's role in risebreak play out like. u just had to be there

Brothers Conflict (Brilliant Blue) Part 7 - ??? Ending & Overall Impressions

I completely forgot about that Wataru event where he tries to take care of Ema when she's sick and forgot what the "gu" part of the charm was to make her feel better so he swings her around thinking that's it🤣🤣 I love how childish but cute Yusuke is to steal the last piece of karaage from Wataru but end up giving it back to him anyway, he's so adorable hahaha. He's too much of a softie to really bully Wataru. Tsubaki on the other hand though, legit ate that karaage and felt no guilt over it🤣 Their peaceful family dinner life is so sweet haha. Lmaooo at the event where Miwa visits and tells Ema to try calling Masaomi Masa-nii and Ukyo Kyo-nii😂😂 It was so cute when they blushed after she shyly called them that hahaha!! Love how Kaname and Tsubaki randomly popped up saying they wanted to be called onii-chan too🤣 They're always there when it's stuff like this hahaha.

Awww I love how they were looking at photos of the past and started thinking about what everyone would be like in the future, especially the ones who haven't started their careers yet. Subaru as a pro basketball player is basically expected, just the same with Fuuto as a celebrity, but dangg Iori as a cool salaryman in a suit is like 👌👌 The cutest thing though is Wataru wanting to be a vet because he's been influenced by Masaomi and wants to be as cool as him in helping sick people/animals who are sick, such a good boy🥺 Yusuke as a policeman would be so cool!! He's so kind and thoughtful, he would be a great policeman! Lmao when they started fighting over Ema being their wife in the future🤣

Anyway...time for the ??? aka secret route/ending~ Spoilers ahead obviously but it's basically the Juli ending! I honestly find it hilarious that the squirrel has a route, like this is a pretty wild game, not only does the 10 year old have a route but even the squirrel does!! What a world🤣 I've always wondered why Juli calls Ema "chi" and it's actually because he used to call her "ochibi-chan" since he's been with her since she was a child and she was a little girl hahahah. LMAO when Juli said he couldn't trust the brothers because they're all like in heat all year round😂😂😂 Anyway, I always love the harem ending. It's not a traditional harem ending like you would expect, but more like a Ema is officially celebrated as a new family member in the Asahina family and I think this ending always warms my heart the most. Yeah, it's nice when you fall in love with a guy and everything, but I think for me and for Ema who was always alone, having all these brothers celebrate her existence in this family and be so happy that she's here just makes it so touching. The idea that so many people in this world love you and want you to be there in their life and be a part of their family is so much more meaningful, and although the guys feel this way in every route, seeing them all together tell and show her that she is important makes this ending really sweet.

Let me just say, I was expecting a happy squirrel ending and not a Juli turns into a human one lol! To be fair though, when Ema kept asking Juli if he would be beside her forever, I felt sad because if he's been with her since she was a child, he's definitely like 10+ years old and wouldn't be able to live "forever" with her, so I guess this is the only way for them to truly be together forever. I didn't expect Juli to be such a pretty boy though! He's definitely more of a "younger brother" type haha! He looks like a butler with the gloves and stuff hahaha! I love how Juli was proving to Ema that he's Juli by saying everything he knows about her, and then he tries to say her three sizes😂😂😂 Why does the squirrel know her bust size and everything so well!!😂😂 HAHAHA, I love how Ema is trying to tell everyone her squirrel turned into a human and Fuuto is like, introduce a good doctor to her please, she's really become an idiot😂😂😂 It's so funny how the brothers call Juli "former squirrel" or basically "ex-squirrel" instead of his name😂😂 I can't, I'm dying from Juli calling Kaname something like a sinful monk and then saying Subaru is filled with perverted desires in his head, it was so funny when Yusuke said he was disappointed in Subaru😂😂 Seeing Juli go around talking to the brothers hoping that they would take care of Ema well into the future makes me wonder if Juli is actually dying and his last wish was to make sure that Ema will be okay even if he's not there anymore😭😭😭 Anyway, love how Juli told Subaru how much he respected him for working so hard training all the time and everything, and then asked him how he has so much time for his perverted delusions😂😂😂 I don't blame Subaru for hitting Juli on the head for it😂😂 I love how Tsubaki is so weird that Juli can only tell Ema to be careful around him😂 HAHAHA, Tsubaki and Kaname are such a riot, they made Hikaru and Natsume come all the way here just to show them that the squirrel has turned into a human😂😂😂 I love how Yusuke tells Juli that Ema doesn't sleep in class like it's something we should applaud for when everyone thinks that's expected😂 Fuuto knowing that a lot of people have asked Ema out in school is very amusing😏😏

I honestly thought this ending with Juli was going to be weird and awkward like it was with Wataru but I guess when you think about it, Juli has always been there for Ema. He's cared for her, watched out for her, spent so much time with her and loved her that it actually feels very natural to see them get along so well and enjoy their time together. It was so cute how he was talking with squirrels about how good Ema's cooking is, it's so sweet. I don't blame Ema for locking herself in her room after she heard that Juli would disappear. Juli's been there with her the most out of everyone, he's closer to her than her dad is, and she's never really thought about the idea of him ever going somewhere else, so hearing that must have shocked her alot. It's childish and it's worrying for the others, but it's understandable. I wanna say "why am I crying over a squirrel?!" But Juli isn't just a squirrel. It was so touching to hear that back in the day, Juli was troubled over being able to understand humans but them not being able to understand him, so when he met Ema, he realised how much fun life could be. I guess it was expected, but it was sweet to know that Juli knew Kenji (Ema's real father) and it was because he was there when he died that he asked Juli to take care of his daughter and give her happiness in his place, and to not leave her alone all by herself😭😭😭 Juli the idiot😭😭😭 I couldn't hold back my tears when he said Ema has a family now, right, and that Kenji's wish had now been granted...and that his duty has been accomplished. I'm glad Ema told him that it's impossible for her to be happy without Juli there with her. I'm still so sad that Juli had to disappear like that but it was expected since Juli would never be able to live as long as her and this should be considered a happy ending since he actually got to tell her his thoughts and feelings before he died but still😭😭😭😭 On the other hand, I'm missing two CGs so I can't unlock Juli's epilogue which really sucks because I really don't want to go looking for those CGs considering how much of a hassle the schedule system is tbh, but I read that it's just Ema going to see the cherry blossoms and treasuring her memories of Juli in her heart from now on or something which is expected but so very bittersweet.

Overall Brilliant Blue is definitely not as nice as Passion Pink but that's mainly due to the lower number of LIs than the writing quality itself. Surprisingly, Juli's ending is literally only 4 days but those 4 days made me love him even more and I definitely enjoyed it more than Wataru and Iori's routes lol! In order of best to worst, Natsume, Ukyo, Azusa, Rui/Louis, Juli, Iori-Wataru. I can't choose between Iori or Wataru being the worst because I really didn't like Iori's route, but at the same time, I didn't like Wataru's route because even though it was very tame and innocent, it still felt weird because of the romantic connotations. Anyway, I'd say Brilliant Blue is still great because Natsume and his route singlehandedly made me think this whole thing was worth it hahaha, he was so much better than I expected in terms of personality and his route. I loved every bit of it because he was mature, kind and very thoughtful of everyone around him. Ukyo had an iffy ex-girlfriend but I still enjoyed his route because he felt much more vulnerable and human, and I enjoyed seeing him feel like he could open up about his past to someone without feeling like he needs to bottle it away because he needs to be the mature older brother to everyone. Azusa's route was lacking in areas especially when he went to the hospital but I still loved his internal struggle of not being able to find a place for himself even though he seems so capable. Rui was very sweet, but his voice really made me fall asleep at times lmao. And yep Juli made me cry, so best boy/squirrel! 

Honestly, I'm probably biased because this is the first ever game/series I've finished completely in Japanese but I'll definitely give Brothers Conflict a 9/10! As I've said before, there's such a great selection of LIs and their routes are all so different that there's bound to be at least one you'll love, for me though, I probably love half of them even if their routes weren't always the best, but their personalities and common events with the other brothers make up for it, so I'll still love them, maybe not Fuuto though, that little jerk LOL. As for my ultimate best boy to least favourite, it would be in the order of Yusuke-Natsume, Tsubaki, Ukyo, Subaru, Masaomi, Azusa, Rui/Louis, Kaname, Hikaru, Juli, Fuuto, Iori-Wataru. Honestly, I can't pick between Yusuke or Natsume. Yusuke is just the perfect amount of silly, nice, earnest and fun guy that grows alongside Ema, I just can't pick anyone above him hahaha. Natsume is still the best and definitely the best in terms of the older brothers, such a kind and perfect guy so I can't pick anyone over him too hahaha! Anyway, with like 14 routes, this is one of the longest games I've played (I spent 165 hours on this lmao) but so so worth it, especially if you want to practise your beginner level Japanese because it's actually very easy to understand most of the time. The main thing I hate about this game though is the schedule. I don't think I've planned out my one year in real life as much as I did with this schedule, like yeah I followed a walkthrough but dang when the walkthrough didn't go as expected and I got the wrong endings, I wanted to bang my head on the wall redoing that whole year again for that guy lolll. Still love the game though and would totally recommend. I would definitely love to play everyone's routes again in the future, maybe just not Iori and Wataru hahaha, oh and Fuuto🤭
