Back to Normal - Prologue
Hi! I’m proud to present you my next project: bumbleby Personal Trainer!AU nobody asked for! :D  All chapters and events are already plotted,  I just need to complete the actual writing. I can't say when I'll start posting the proper chapters honestly, but I can assure you that when I will they will come out regularly.

Blake took a deep breath, gripping tight to the strap of her bag.
She could do it. For Adam, for them.
She took one last breath and stepped inside through the automatic doors. A young energetic girl greeted her at the reception “Hi! How can I help you?”
“Hi, I was thinking about subscribing to a gym membership.”
“Well, you clearly came to the right place!” the girl jokingly opened her arms, making Blake smile “So, is there anything in particular you were thinking about? A course or something? Did you do some research already or do you need me to explain our options to you?” she asked, already bringing out a paper with a summary of what their place offered.
“Actually, I was hoping to get a private training with a personal trainer, if that’s alright?”
“Of course!” the girl quickly typed something on her computer “There’s one of our trainers with a spare hour right now if you want to meet her. She will also show you around, and if you don’t think she’s the best suited person for you we can schedule a meeting with someone else, no pressure!”
Blake didn’t expect her visit to go this far, and instinctively brought her hand to her forearm, over the sleeve, and held tightly.
That meeting wasn’t in her plans, but it would save her some time. It would be good, right?
“Okay, thanks.” Blake answered softly after some hesitation.
Not minding even a little bit, the girl just cupped her hands over her mouth and yelled from her station “Hey Yang! There’s someone for you!”
“Ruby!” a nearby door opened slightly violently, revealing a beautiful and fit blonde-haired woman. She wore a tank top with the words “PERSONAL TRAINER” written on it that showed off her muscular arms. “How many times did I tell you not to scream!” The younger girl just gave her a cheeky smile, making the blonde bring a hand over her forehead and sigh.
The interaction made Blake giggle; the two of them must’ve been close.
The blonde turned to face her “Hi, I’m Yang.” She introduced herself to her new potential client, offering her hand “Sorry for Ruby, she’s just very… excitable.”
“Noted” Blake answered with an amused smile and shook it “I’m Blake.”
“Well Blake, let me show you around, and then we can talk in my office okay?” she gallantly opened the door to let her go in first and the tour began.
Yang immediately showed herself as an easy-going person. She showed her all the machines, the free body sections, the changing rooms, and answered all of her questions with a smile, even the stupid ones.
She often stopped by to say hi to fellow colleagues and clients alike who were working out, showing to be in a friendly relationship even with people she wasn’t personally training. She did all of that without ever leaving Blake behind, showing herself friendly but also respectful of her personal space. She was particularly grateful for that.
Blake decided that she liked her.
When everything was showed and said, they went back in her office to discuss more private matters.
The room was simple, just a table with a couple of chairs, some basic medical equipment aside to deal with minor injuries and to check your training progresses both. There was one shelf with a few books, mostly about healthy training and eating habits Blake assumed.
“So… why do you want to train now?” the blonde asked, leaning on her ‘desk’ “What is your goal? What would you like to achieve?”
“Well, I didn’t do anything in a while and I thought it would be good to get back in shape, lose some weight and start a healthier lifestyle.” She explained “Actually, it was my boyfriend’s idea.” She continued, lightly stroking her left arm. Yang narrowed her eyes a bit but said nothing.
“I see… so you’re planning on something casual?”
“Casual but steady, yeah.”
Yang scribbled something down on a piece of paper “Alright then. Now I’ll need to ask you a few medical questions in order to make your training plan okay?” Blake nodded “Good. By the way, before we start, I also teach self-defense. If you’re interested, I can add it to our training plan.”
“I…” the black-haired woman looked puzzled while trying to come up with an answer.
Should’ve she accepted? She wasn’t sure. Would that be useful? Knowing how to defend yourself was hardly a useless skill to have. But what would Adam say about it?
The thought of him, his possible reaction to be precise, settled her decision “I don’t think that will be necessary, thanks.”
Yang shrugged her shoulders and went on with the interview. Then when she was satisfied with the information she got, she passed on the subscription.
“…and that’d be all!” Yang said after Blake signed the contract “You can pay at the front desk next time you come if you need to.” The new member nodded “Good. So, when would you like to start? I have a free spot tomorrow if you’d-“
“No!” Blake abruptly cut her off, startling the blonde with the sudden raise of voice. Blake anxiously jerked back “I-I mean” she tried to recollect herself “This week is actually pretty terrible for me… is it okay if we just start next week instead?”
“No problem.” The two signed the appointment in their respective calendars, then sat up as Yang walked her to the exit “See you next week Blake!” Yang said her goodbye with a beaming smile. Blake answered with lower voice and a shy wave of her hand before heading out.
As she sat down in her car, Blake gripped on the wheel and took another deep breath, taking her time before even putting her keys in. She rolled her sleeves up, revealing various bruises and gently stroked them. A fresher one made her hiss a little bit.
“You’re doing the right thing and it will get better. We will get better. Just give him some time.” She told herself through the mirror “Everything will go back to normal.”
The reflection of her eyes didn’t seem as certain.

Summary: Mulder and Scully are investigating a case, but the related files mysteriously vanish overnight. As they try to gather information about the case, it leads them to a UFO fanatic that Mulder has never met before - or so he thought.

A/N: I hope you guys don't minde me posting my stories from other fandoms here, too. It is one of the X Files fanfictions I'm currently working on - not my best writing, but I hope you'll enjoy it anyways. :)
'She's an underground extraterrestrial specialist. The best in the States,' Mulder went on as they climbed the stairs in the New York apartment building. The walls were tainted grey with smoke and dust, and previous graffitis showed through fresher paint layers. There were cracks in the mosaic tiles, and some steps were covered with a different set if the damage was repaired at all. The whole hallway felt greenish, even though there was no green, and the wire-woven glass windows did not allow much light in. 'Ah, so she's spooky like you,' Dana nodded as she avoided a suspicious pool of liquid on the floor. 'Yeah, she's spooky like me,' her partner repeated with a mocking tone. He stopped at a burgundy door and checked his notepad. 'This should be it.' After Scully's apprehensive look, the man knocked. When no answer came, he tried the doorbell. 'I'm coming, I'm coming!' A grating voice replied, then the door swung open, and behind it was a surprised old woman. 'Who are you?' The agents exchanged a brief, questioning look, then Mulder turned back to the lady. 'I'm Agent Mulder from the FBI, and this is Agent Scully,' he gestured towards Dana with his badge. 'Are you Miss Matthews?' 'No,' the woman spat out. 'And is there a Miss Matthews living with you?' Scully pressed on kindly. 'No,' she croaked again, but this time, she forcefully knocked her walking stick to the wall on the right. Without waiting for any more questions, or saying goodbye, she slammed the door shut. 'Well, that was unpleasant,' Scully huffed, brushing the imaginary dust off herself. 'You're driving back to DC. Mulder?' The man was fixated on the neighbouring door and took no note of the other agent's comments. Slowly, the door on the right crept open, and a young woman peeked out from behind. Her eyes were bright, greenish-brown, and inquisitive - her left eyebrow was always raised in a questioning way. Her face was framed with almost black, unruly hair strands that escaped her long braids. Her body disappeared in the many fabrics: loose, red hoodie, baggy, marble grey pants; her unmatching socks were barely visible under them.
'You!' Mulder exclaimed accusingly as he saw the girl. 'You know each other?' Scully asked her partner. 'She pretended to be a high school girl to interview me about aliens,' the man pursed his lips and Scully snorted to keep down a chuckle. 'You wanted to get some information about the X-files, didn't you?' 'It's not my fault you don't do a background check before letting anyone stroll into your office!' The young woman darted back as she leant against the doorframe. Scully stepped ahead. 'Are you Miss Matthews?' She nodded, turning her gaze to the woman. 'How can I help you?' 'I'm Agent Scully and this is Agent Mulder. We're from the FBI. There's a case you might be able to help us with,' the agent explained. After a long pause, Willow opened the door wide and allowed them in.
'Sorry for the mess,' she walked ahead. 'I wasn't expecting anyone.' Both agents scanned the place: the apartment showed an eery resemblance to Mulder's basement office. There were newspaper cutouts taped on the walls with the odd bit of pictures and posters. A computer buzzed in the living room corner, and the coffee table was covered with papers and half-empty mugs. The burgundy couch was, too, littered with papers and notepads. Since the man was still sore about the prior incident, Dana took over.
'So, Miss Matthews, I heard you specialise in the investigation of extraterrestrial life.' 'Specialise is a strong word. I do spend my free time going through UFO sightings and anything related. Coffee?' She offered, walking to the kitchen that was only separated from the living room with an open wall. 'Yes, please,' the man exhaled loudly. 'But you are well-informed about such phenomena?' 'I gather as much information as readily available. And some more,' she stopped pouring the coffee. 'I'd expect that the FBI is much more notified of such occurrences.' 'We were investigating a case and all the files related mysteriously vanished,' Scully explained. 'What case?' 'Have you heard of the undecaying bodies of saints?' Agent Mulder chipped in and the young woman nodded. 'Well, another nun passed away at St Andrew's church just outside DC. During the 2 weeks it was at the coroner's office it had shown no sign of decay, and it vanished into thin air this Monday night. Just as the documents of any related cases as we began our investigation.' Will nodded knowingly. 'I'm not surprised.' 'You're not?' Dana raised an eyebrow. 'If the church is involved… Well, they've been dancing this tango for a while now. They have their ways.' 'So you're suggesting this is a religious coverup?' She asked unbelievingly. 'I wouldn't say that the whole church has a big dirty secret they try to cover… But there might be a select few that have a… Special book club.'
When they stared at her intently, Will grabbed the coffee mugs to lend them to the agents, then made her way back to the living room, and to a bookcase. She searched through the titles, pulling a heavy book from a lower shelf along with a newspaper she shuffled out of a pile. 'Was that her?' She handed the newspaper to them. It featured a case of a young nun passing, with the headline: Miracle of God - Untouched by Death. 'The very same,' Mulder confirmed. Willow skipped back to her coffee table to hastily make some room on it then shuffled through the book. 'Usually, the catholic church has a strict and extensive evaluation to determine if a corpse is incorrupt, but rarely do they do this under the nose of government agencies. If they need the body, they take the official route and get it without much struggle.' 'So whoever took this body had something else to hide than the purity of God,' the man concluded. 'But what does that mean, incorruption?' 'Incorruptibility,' Will and Mulder answered in unison, but the girl took over without missing a beat. 'When the church reconsiders someone as a saint, they have to exhume the body. Rarely, but some bodies appear to be untouched by time and decomposition. The first instance was Saint Zita, who was exhumed 300 years after she was laid to rest. Her body was intact and since been mummified; she's still on display in Italy.' 'Most of the time, these bodies even smell fresh, like flowers,' the man added. 'Surely these can be explained by completely scientific reasons,' Scully crossed her arms in front of her chest. 'Of course,' Willow chimed surprisingly. 'Nowadays the Vatican has the help of scientists to determine if there was any embalmment or other signs of human preservation. But there are cases when there are no earthly explanations.' 'So, what? The aliens preserved their bodies by a method that is still unknown and undetectable for us?' The redhead scoffed and Mulder nudged her from the side. 'See? You're coming around.' 'I think it is definitely a possibility to consider,' Will nodded. 'What I believe is that these bodies aren't even bodies… But maybe transmitters.' She went ahead and browsed through some files she had stored in paper boxes, and in the meantime, Scully leaned to her partner. 'She reminds me of someone,' she whispered and the man made a silly face. 'Actually,' her voice brought them back. 'There was a similar incident a couple years ago nearby.' 'Where?' Mulder urged her. 'In a small town near Fall River, Massachusetts. They exhumed a nun's body who died 26 years before to find it completely intact. The church keeps her in a glass casket since.' The man took the documents to scan through them then knocked on them and beamed at his partner. 'See, Scully? I told you she was the best.'
'Mulder, if I wouldn't know you I'd say you're falling in love,' Scully teased him as they walked down the stairs. 'Somebody is in a funny mood,' the man opened the door for her. He stepped out to the bustling New York street with a pack of papers and notes and a book in hand. A sense of relief came over him that he tried to spread in his body by taking a deep inhale, but that was quickly smothered by the heavy air of the city. Mulder could see the orange ticket on the car and he sighed.
That's New York for you.
He'll never park in this city again.

Episode 9 - Paradise fruits
Kogami, Tsunemori and Ginoza at the Oso Academy to continue their investigation. Ginoza brought Kogami aside to apologize for his misjudgment. Kogami responded that he hadn't felt as lively for a long while.
Morning next day, Tsunemori was told about a news report video recommended by the Ministry of Welfare in which a Senguji Toyohisa was interviewed and talked about how immortality could be achieved by turning human into cyborgs.

As Tsunemori drove to pick up Kogami, she played that video in her car. Kogami was not interested in what Senguji said, he looked out of the window when that video played. Nonetheless, Tsunemori asked:

"...by becoming a cyborg?"
Kogami answered immediately, without looking at Tsunemori, that he was not interested. "LIfe as a latent criminal isn't the sort of thing you'd want to go on forever." Tsunemori countered that if the social system became more developed, the rights of latent criminals might improve. Kogami laughed it off, saying no wonder Tsunemori's psycho-pass tended to stay clear. The video continued. The host asked Senguji about a survey that showed people's reluctance in becoming more than 50% cyborg, and Senguji responded that everyone had become more or less cyborg now. Even though they did not have artificial body parts, they had become totally dependent on portable information terminals, AI secretaries and similar technologies that functioned as their second brain. And he concluded that the history of science was a history of the expansion of the human body's functionality, in other words, the history of man's cyberization.
Tsunemori kept driving without talking with Kogami. They arrived at a private property. Both quietly got out of the car.
As Kogami pressed the doorbell, Tsunemori commented that she didn't see much environment hologram in use there. Kogami replied that the owner didn't like those kinds of things.
Door opened. Kogami greeted and addressed the owner as professor Saiga.
They were invited in. Seated, Saiga started doing profiling on Tsunemori, saying that she was from Chiba, not bad at athletic activities, but couldn't swim, and both her parents were still alive...

Saiga continued talking about how Tsunemori's parents saw thing, their opposition to Tsunemori becoming a Public Safety agents, and Tsunemori's relationships with her grandma.

Saiga, "Just some simple observations. People manifest all sorts of signs unconsciously. Once you get the knack of it, you can easily read those signs."
Kogami then said to Saiga that he had two favors to ask for. First, Saiga taught Tsunemori how to do profiling, and second, Saiga showed Kogami the list of past course attendees.
Saiga asked who it was that Kogami was looking for. Kogami replied, "I think this guy is the worst criminal since the creation of the Sibyl system. He's a high-level intellectual criminal and is probably fit and in good health, too. He's someone with unique charisma. He rarely kills people with his own hands. He controls other people's minds and influences them. Much like a music conductor, he orchestrates one crime after another." Saiga asked Kogami to define chrisma. "I used it to mean the nature of a hero or a ruler." Saiga said he would give that answer 20 points. Then he gave his answer:

1. The nature of a hero or a prophet; 2. An ability to simply make you feel good when you're around them; and 3. The intelligence to eloquently talk about all sorts of things.
Then, Saiga asked Kogami which of the above elements did the guy he was looking for have. "All of them."
At the Public Safety Office, Masaoka showed the profile of Shibata Yukimori, an elderly man whose identity was used by someone who taught art at Oso Academy.

Another agent added that all the video data had been destroyed and that there was no way to reconstruct his appearance. Both creating a traditional photofit picture and drawing a composite sketch failed.
Kogami asked if Tsunemori found the crash course helpful. Tsunemori replied it helped a lot, then she wondered why Saiga's course was not in the Public Safety Bureau's archive.
Kogami said that was impossible. Saiga's courses were specially set up for Public Safety inspectors. But some of the people who attended the courses had clouded hues and high crime coefficient readings.
Tsunemori was surprised by this.
"Say there's a dark swamp and you can't see the bottom. In order to check the swamp, you have no choice but to jump in. Mr. Saiga is used to it since he's dived in to investigate it so many times. But it's not like all students can come back safely after diving into the swamp. There are gaps in their abilities and simply their suitability, too." "You seem like someone who'd dive deep...and yet come back safely."
"Well...at least the Sibyl system decided that I couldn't come back."
Cut to Maikshima. He was accompanied by his guest, the hunter who killed Rikako, the chairman who appeared in an interview, Senguji Toyohisa.
Senguji smoked with a pipe made of Rikako's bone.
Makishima asked Senguji that since he had overcome aging in his body, "all that's left is your mind?"
Senguji replied, "Yes. You maintain a healthy and sound life by sacrificing other lives. But if people only seek youth for their bodies and lose sight of the means to cultivate their minds, then naturally it will only lead to an increase in the number of living dead. How foolish, don't you think?"
"The energy that comes from thrills. It's a dangerous reward that goes hand in hand with death, huh?"

"That's right. In hunting, the tougher your prey is, the fresher the youth you can gain from it." Senguji replied. "With all that in mind, I think I can arrange for your next prey to be an exquisite one. It's an Enforcer from the Public Safety Bureau (MWPSB). His name is..."
Walking along with Kogami, Tsunemori said checking Saiga's lecture attendees list didn't help much.
"But if Makishima is a living man, he's left a trace somewhere for sure."
As soon as Kogami and Tsunemori entered the office, Ginoza reacted.

"A brat who's confused about anything and everything! Why do you think we have the classifications of Inspectors and Enforcers? It's in order to avoid the risk of having healthy people's Psycho-Pass get clouded by criminal investigations. We use latent criminals, who can never return to society, in our place. That's precisely why you can fulfill your duty while protecting your mind!" Kogami listened without making any objection.

"It's certainly true that I'm new. And you are a respectable senior to me, Inspector Ginoza. But please don't forget that we're on equal footing in terms of our rank! I'm managing my coefficient just fine. You may be senior to me, but I'd like you to restrain yourself from questioning my ability at the workplace and in front of the Enforcers!"

Tsunemori walked out of the office, Masaoka followed her and talked her out of making a complaint to the Bureau chief.
In a one-on-one conversation, Masaoka told Tsunemori that Ginoza's father was a latent criminal.
"Terrible misunderstandings and rumors about latent criminals were common in [the days when the Sibyl system was just put into operation]. If a family member happened to show a high crime coefficient, that alone caused the rest of the family to be treated as if they were the same. I'm sure he suffered quite a bit. When a detective gets deeply involved in an investigation, in the end, the Sibyl system starts keeping an eye on them just like it does the criminals. Committing a crime or cracking down on crimes. Both sides face the same phenomenon called crime. There's no difference."

"Now there are Enforcers, but before they created that position, there were many detectives who were diagnosed as latent criminals like that. Inspector Ginoza's father was one of them."

"That's why he can't forgive those who run a risk on their own. And yet, Kogami, his former colleague was also...He feels he was betrayed twice. First by his father and then by his colleague. That's why he acts like that towards you."
"Missy, you do have a family and friends too, don't you? If your Psycho-Pass gets clouded, this time, those people will suffer the same hardships Nobuchika did. In order to avoid that, we, Enforcers, are here."

"he used to. But now...he might be oblivious to everything that's not related to that Makishima guy." Cut to Sneguji in a conversation with Makishima. Senguji said he would not capture the target alive.

Episode 10 - Methuselah's Game
In the middle of her sleep, Tsunemori was awoken by an alert of an incoming email from her friend Funehara Yuki.

Accompanied by Kogami, Tsunemori went to the site Funahara specified.
Tsunemori felt the place was strange and appeared like a trap. Kogami agreed and said Tsunemori should be the target.
Kogami then requested to be armed and entered the obsolete subway station on his own to check things out, while Tsunemori waited for the back up and guided him underground.
Kogami walked as Tsunemori said via a device that "In the back there..." Interference jammed the message. Kogami walked on nonetheless.
What Tsunemori said was, "In the back there, there's a dead end." And Tsunemori was struck by what she saw.

When the interference stopped, Kogami heard Tsunemori's voice telling him to keep going.
Then, Tsunemori's voice told Kogami to check the train cars.

Some water rushed by, followed by a train. Kogami held onto that train as he tried to communicate with Tsunemori to no avail.

Kogami entered the train compartment and saw a girl blindfolded in it. He removed her blindfold, produced his warrant card, and asked the girl who she was. "Funahara Yuki."
On the ground, other members of division one arrived.

"From the smell, it's definitely polluted water mixed with liquid waste. If something like that gets poured on you, you'll be in for a world of hurt." "But Mr. Kogami unmistakably moved ahead beyond that point. In fact, he went even further, going through the wall!" said Tsunemori. Kagari folded his arms and threw a question at Tsunemori with a voice of distrust, "Isn't that a problem with the navigator?" Kunizuka voiced her comment as she checked the surroundings. "The issue might not be with the hardware, but the software. Since this area has been repeatedly redeveloped, you'd never know if the entered data matches the actual condition. "

"Aren't you the only one who got deceived, Inspector Tsunemori?"

"Kogami left your surveillance and his location is lost. In other words, he might've staged this situation from the start to run away." Masaoka chimed in. "Suppose we trust the navigator instead of the map data, do you know in which direction Kogami was headed? Did the signal show any strange movements?"
"Come to think of it...after a while, he suddenly started moving in a straight line really fast. He must be in some vehicle now. Isn't there a subway line around that runs in a north-south direction?" Kunizuka replied, "There is."

"The subway Ginza Line. But it was discontinued sixty years ago."
Kogami asked Funehara if she had any clue what happened and the girl hadn't the faintest idea. She got home from work, took a bath and slept as usual. When she woke up, she was already on this train. Kogami still thought Tsunemori was the target, but then he had second thought. He played Tsunemori's voice and determined it was a fake created from voice samples. "They knew all along that she wouldn't be the one to come to the basement, but someone else instead. "

An electric hound emerged, Kogami and Funehara had to take the stairways and headed straight to Senguji's hunting ground.

"Things have been going as we planned so far. It seems they're quick to pick up on things, too. The smarter the prey, the more enjoyable the hunt becomes." Said Senguji. "Looks like it will be a worthwhile game to watch from the bleachers." Makishima commented. "Why don't you take part in the hunt for a change?"  Senguji probed. "My interest lies in what will transpire during this hunt. So it would be best for me to observe things as a third party."
Kogami inspected the hunting ground, and found a bag with chemical light sticks and bottles in it.
Kogami carried that bag and made use of the chemical light sticks to find their way out. As they walked, Funehara asked if Tsunemori was doing okay with her work. Kogami replied that Tsunemori had faith and intuitively understood what it meant to be a detective.

Funehara continued talking about Tsunemori. And Kogami threw another light stick and heard different sounds. He sensed a trap. and confirmed it with the torch in his hand.

Funehara saw a bag identical to the one Kogami was carrying, and ran to grab it right away. Turned out it was a device that would guide an electric hound right to them.
As the two ran from the hound, Senguji fired at Kogami. He missed.
Kogami told Funehara to stay hiding while he went out to try take down one of the hounds.
He attacked one with a transponder attached to it. That hound struggled and stepped right into a clamp, it then darted to the position of the other trap and was destroyed. Kogami grabbed the transponder and ran.
Senguji fired and missed again.
Kogami ran to Funehara and told her to run with him. The transponder in his hand had battery, he needed to find an antenna to communicate with his colleagues.
Senguji was impressed with Kogami. Then he asked Makishima added in some plot into the game that he wasn't aware of. Makishima started, "When a man faces fear, his soul is tested. What he was born to seek...What he was born to achieve...His true nature will become clear." "Are you trying to mock me?" "It's not just that Kogami guy. I'm interested in you, too. Mr. Senguji. An unforeseen situation...an unexpected turn of events..."

"I know that is the thrill and excitement you've been seeking."

Makishima then pondered if Kogami understood the meaning of this game.
Kogami tried to figure out what was going on. "With you as bait, they lured in Tsunemori. But they knew it would actually be me who came looking for you instead. They factored all that in when setting up this hunt." "It's you who they want to play with, right? I'm just...dammit! I'm just being dragged into this, right?!" "That's right. With regard to you, your role should have been over when your email was sent. And yet...why did they put you on the subway?" "isn't it to make it difficult for you to run away?" On hearing this, Kogami figured out something. "This fox hunt is not just a one-sided game. They are hinting that I've got a chance, too. In other words, I'm being tested. Whether I abandon you during this game or not, I bet it's also one of the keys to winning this game. "
Then, Kogami ordered Funehara to take off her clothes, "If you want to survive, just do as I say." Funehara complied. Then, Kogami asked if Funehara usually coordinated her bra and he asked her to hand those over.

Kogami found the antenna he needed.
On the ground, Ginoza was laying out his plan for agents to go in and, based on the premise that cymatic scan couldn't be fooled, ordered Kogami be shot with a dominator as soon as he was spotted so as to see his true intention. If Kogami didn't intent to run away, he coefficient would stay the same and he would be paralyzed; but if he did try to run away, the eliminator mode would be activated and he would be killed. Tsunemori protested, pointed out that Kogami was his friend. Ginoza coldly said, "If Kogami ends up dying, the fault will lie on you due to your poor supervision."

"If you had Kogami under control, this wouldn't have had to happen. How do you feel about someone dying because of your own incompetence?"

Masaoka stepped in, grabbed Ginoza by the collar of his jacket, hoisted him, and asked

Then Masaoka tossed Ginoza aside.
Kogami made contact and told the team his location.
The team went in.
Tsunemori's thought as she ran inside, "Mr. Kogami, please let us make it in time."
End of episode 10
Comment Episode nine: The scene in which Tsunemori talked back to Ginoza was an important moment of growth for this character, taking into consideration that Japan would probably remain a male-dominant society at the time when this anime took place, in like almost a hundred years from now, Tsunemori, as a woman, a junior Inspector, showed her courage, determination in a vocal way that surprised Kunizuka, Kogami and annoyed Goinza. And it is the most memorable part of this episode for me. Another thing worth noting was that Masaoka referred to Ginoza by using his given name, Nobuchika. Given that addressing someone by their given name is a sign of closeness, this would be an implicit indication that the relationship between Masaoka and Ginoza was close.
Episode ten: The episode's title carries that name that became synonymous with longevity, so this episode was like a quest for longevity, and the one who craved it the most was Senguji. And Makishima changed the hunting game, turning it into a duet between Senguji and Kogami. Despite mounting disadvantages, Kogami managed to take down one electric hound and found a way to make contact with his colleagues.
A side note for Ginoza, a person keenly aware that his career was at stake, he tried hard not to be influenced by emotions. But in this episode his judgment was clearly clouded by feelings: his distrust of and disappointment in Kogami and his contempt of Tsunemori, and he spoke in a way that was coldhearted, mean, and as Masaoka put it, sinister.  But then, on a second thought, Ginoza found himself in a situation that he needed to act tough or people would not take him seriously. He was not happy with it and when Tsunemori protested by saying that Kogami was his friend, Ginoza exploded. He needed to take it out and Tsunemori provided the perfect vent.

How I Blew My Interview With Star India
Inspired by the story written by Ramanuj Mukherjee titled ‘How I Blew My Interview With Amarchand Mangaldas’, we came up with an idea to do a How I Blew My Interview Series, while sipping a cup of tea and discussing work on Tuesday evening at office.
Here is our team member Mohona Thakur’s account of how she blew her interview with Star India.
If you’ve been following my writings by now you’d be aware that I have always dreamt of working in the FMCG or media space as an in-house counsel. So, naturally, in my final year of law school, I applied to a lot of media companies – from Disney India to Viacom 18 to the Times Group.
Star India was obviously one amongst them. I had heard from various sources that they are big on hiring and training freshers, the CTC packages were pretty much close to what top-tier law firms offered to their freshers, it was the fully owned subsidiary of 21st Century Fox, and do I really need to say much about the brand? It was my first choice.
This was one of the first companies I applied to. After a number of follow ups through five months, I finally got a call from the HR, right in between my final semester exams. In the excitement, although I had enough brains to push the interview date after the exams, I only pushed it to the very next day after the final exams got over. It was an HR interview, I thought. How wrong could it go? I had the choice of choosing a date, any date after exams got over, but I didn’t want butterflies in my stomach, so I chose the first possible day for the interview. The blunders began right here.
Soon, the back-to-back 100 mark final semester exams got over. For those of you who have studied under the University of Pune, you’d know how archaic the examination system is. We spend four to five days giving 100 mark law papers for subjects as vast as CrPc, Companies Law, Banking and Tax in our final semester. Students survive on excess food and red bull to keep themselves awake to revise the syllabus overnight to go give the papers the next day.
I do not think the magnanimity of the situation hit me till I realised that the HR interview was the very next day and to top it off, this was my very first interview for a job, ever.
As any prudent student would, I did what was required for the HR rounds. I prepared a list of probable questions that could be asked to me, soft questions like “Tell me about yourself.”, “Why law?”, “Why do you want to work with Star India?”, “What’s the CTC you’re expecting?” and the likes. I went the extra mile and did some quick research on the interviewer, read up about the recent developments of the company. In the limited time, I revised my resume. I focused on reading up my research notes from my internships that were media laws oriented. I knew I wasn’t a hundred percent ready, but I knew I was prepared enough for the HR rounds.
The next morning, I was ready logistically. I had requested my roommate to allow the room to myself for two hours, the wifi was smooth, I had a decent background with enough light. The only thing that felt anything contrary to ready was my stomach that was growling in nervousness. It was only when the interview started that I started to finally breathe.
Ms. Vibha Bhosale was across the screen, over Skype, quite ready to interview me. She introduced herself as the HR Business Partner to the legal team. The interview was going as expected. From “Tell me about yourself.” to “Why law?” to “Why Star India?”, until the dreaded “I see that you haven’t interned with any law firm, is there any specific reason for it? Or was it purely out of choice?”
This was a question the answer to which would lead to the next question: “Why do you want to work with a company as a fresher? Why not a law firm?” To be absolutely honest, I knew the answer to both these questions. But I decided that my honesty may cost me a job if what I said next made the HR feel that I wasn’t up for hard-work which was absolutely in contradiction to my personality. There is no way you want the HR to feel that you do not have it in you to put in the work. And this was a deciding factor.
Instead of saying what I have always believed to be a driving force behind the decision to be working in-house, I gave a standard and half-true answer: “I believe I have both legal and managerial skills, and companies would be the best place to put both of them to use and grow.” She didn’t buy it. She repeated the question again. I stuck to my answer, thinking this was a test to see if I crack under pressure and change my answer – to figure out if I was fickle minded about my decision to join companies and the reason behind it.
By the fourth time I was asked the very same question by Ms. Bhosale, I knew she wasn’t convinced at all. She could see through me, but I was in a position from where I could not return. And definitely, changing the answer wasn’t anymore an option. I knew that my chances of getting this dream job at a company that not only encourages young talent but also trains them (which is a gem to find in the legal industry) was almost gone.
So, I was more than glad when she moved on to my resume and began asking questions from there. I must say, I was impressed. You do not expect HR personnels to have any legal knowledge as such about the laws, but here Ms. Bhosale knew what she was speaking about. I was grilled on my resume as though it was a technical round. From questions regarding my post graduate diploma in media laws from NALSAR to my internship with Hindustan Times in my second year of law school, I was grilled on anything that remotely pointed to the Telecom, Media and Technology sector.
If you think that HR rounds are easy, treat this right here as a reality check. Most HRs, especially in companies with as much resources as Star India are nothing, if not well-trained. I had merely brushed through the technical parts in the resume, so I relied purely on my memory to give the right answers. It went great until I was asked about a telecom policy I had worked on in my last internship.
“What work did you partake while formulating the policy for the telecom sector? What exactly was the policy about?” I answered rather reluctantly, stammered a bit, and said, “Since the Act that the policy was made for has not been passed by the Delhi Government, I can’t specifically give you details, but it was to do with regulation of telecom towers. I was given to review the entire Act and prepare a report on where the statute lacked and what could be the possible solutions.” I would call this an evasive answer, while I did answer the question somewhat, I made it very clear that I didn’t know enough. My memory definitely did fail me here.
Every interview has those moments – when you know whether you’ve made it to the next round, or not. While I had already lost the trust of the HR by bluffing about why I wanted to work with companies with a predominant fear that I would be misunderstood, not knowing a crucial piece of work I had worked on not six months ago showed poor preparation.
The interview lasted for about 45 minutes, and Ms. Bhosale bid her goodbye saying the usual – “The next round will be taken by Mr. Deepak Jacob. Our team will let you know if there is a next round.”
This was my very first interview for a job. Ever. And I screwed it up. In fact, I was so sure that I wasn’t making it that after the two-week mark, I didn’t even bother following up.
Two years down the line, today when I look back how I blew up that first interview, I can point out a few blunders:
Blunder #1: Stupidity
When I was called for the interview, instead of taking time and thinking a date through, I made the quick decision of doing the HR round right after my final semester exams got over. I didn’t even think of giving myself a breather after the exams. In spite of knowing that Pune University exams are physically tiring and most students are sleep deprived by the end of the exams, I made a choice in hurry rather than buying time – due to the fear of losing an opportunity.
This is nothing but career defining decisions made in haste. Yes, I had been following up with the company for months, but rather than jumping at the one opportunity I got for an interview, I should have thought it through, asked for a couple of hours, maybe even a day and gotten back with a calm mind.
Blunder #2: Lies
HR personnel are trained to hire people. They can see through your lies, even if you are the best at keeping a poker face. It is best to be honest with them, and frame your answers in a way that would convince them of who you really are rather than portray a picture of you who you’d want them to hire. They can see through it all, I believe so.
When I was asked about why I wanted to work with a company and not a law firm right out of law school, I freezed. There was a time in my fourth year while interning for Godfrey Phillips India, when the Senior Manager there had asked me the same question but in the context of internships – “Why do you intern with companies only? Why haven’t you interned with law firms yet?” I had very honestly answered her question back then. “Because I believe that companies give you stability, work-life balance, financial resources and a great amount of work. Everything I could ask for as a lawyer.” In reply to this, I was asked, “Are you sure this is the reason? Or is this your easy way out, of putting in hard work and hours?” I was offended, but then that also gave me glimpse into how a number of lawyers themselves look at in-house jobs.
Working with companies to the middle class has always been equivalent to stability. And, why not? You have steady flow of income every month, you have provisions for House Rent Allowance and a PF and Gratuity account that takes care of you post retirement. To a lot of us lawyers, most of them on the top of the pyramid, after having worked days and nights for years moving in-house means work-life balance resulting out of a stark difference in terms of the quantity of workload.
I wanted this very stability and work-life balance from the beginning of my career. I didn’t want to make the switch from law-firms to in-house after I was exhausted of the law firm life. It was a conscious choice that I was making. And there is no shame in admitting it. Is it a crime to want a work-life balance? Does working in-house mean you’re having it easy in the legal field?
Instead of saying the truth, I gave a half-baked answer presuming my answer would be construed against who I really am.
Blunder #3: Undermining HR Rounds
Right from the moment I was told that it would be an HR round to my preparation for the interview, I didn’t pay two heeds to preparing for the technical side of my resume in and out. I brushed through it, barely enough to recall what I had done in various internships, diplomas and publications.
The HR rounds may be presumed to be a test of your character, zeal, potential to fit in the company, but it is as important as to know your stuff while you sit for this round. Knowing your resume thoroughly, whether it is the HR round or the technical round is mandatory. And in case you do not know the answer to a question, have the ability to say you don’t know or don’t remember. Do not give ambiguous answers to dodge the question.
A lot of lawyers, more often than not, and especially freshers think of the HR interviews to be “just a formality”. This is a reality check for all of you.
I screwed up the first and the most important interview I had bagged in spite of having a more-than-decent resume because I was under prepared, sleep deprived and clearly not thinking straight enough to admit truths while being interviewed and it showed. As rightly pointed out by Ramanuj in his story, blunders genuinely do not begin in the room where you are being interviewed but much beforehand. Mine began from the moment I got the call for the interview.

How I Blew My Interview With Star India
Inspired by the story written by Ramanuj Mukherjee titled ‘How I Blew My Interview With Amarchand Mangaldas’, we came up with an idea to do a How I Blew My Interview Series, while sipping a cup of tea and discussing work on Tuesday evening at office.
Here is our team member Mohona Thakur’s account of how she blew her interview with Star India.
If you’ve been following my writings by now you’d be aware that I have always dreamt of working in the FMCG or media space as an in-house counsel. So, naturally, in my final year of law school, I applied to a lot of media companies – from Disney India to Viacom 18 to the Times Group.
Star India was obviously one amongst them. I had heard from various sources that they are big on hiring and training freshers, the CTC packages were pretty much close to what top-tier law firms offered to their freshers, it was the fully owned subsidiary of 21st Century Fox, and do I really need to say much about the brand? It was my first choice.
This was one of the first companies I applied to. After a number of follow ups through five months, I finally got a call from the HR, right in between my final semester exams. In the excitement, although I had enough brains to push the interview date after the exams, I only pushed it to the very next day after the final exams got over. It was an HR interview, I thought. How wrong could it go? I had the choice of choosing a date, any date after exams got over, but I didn’t want butterflies in my stomach, so I chose the first possible day for the interview. The blunders began right here.
Soon, the back-to-back 100 mark final semester exams got over. For those of you who have studied under the University of Pune, you’d know how archaic the examination system is. We spend four to five days giving 100 mark law papers for subjects as vast as CrPc, Companies Law, Banking and Tax in our final semester. Students survive on excess food and red bull to keep themselves awake to revise the syllabus overnight to go give the papers the next day.
I do not think the magnanimity of the situation hit me till I realised that the HR interview was the very next day and to top it off, this was my very first interview for a job, ever.
As any prudent student would, I did what was required for the HR rounds. I prepared a list of probable questions that could be asked to me, soft questions like “Tell me about yourself.”, “Why law?”, “Why do you want to work with Star India?”, “What’s the CTC you’re expecting?” and the likes. I went the extra mile and did some quick research on the interviewer, read up about the recent developments of the company. In the limited time, I revised my resume. I focused on reading up my research notes from my internships that were media laws oriented. I knew I wasn’t a hundred percent ready, but I knew I was prepared enough for the HR rounds.
The next morning, I was ready logistically. I had requested my roommate to allow the room to myself for two hours, the wifi was smooth, I had a decent background with enough light. The only thing that felt anything contrary to ready was my stomach that was growling in nervousness. It was only when the interview started that I started to finally breathe.
Ms. Vibha Bhosale was across the screen, over Skype, quite ready to interview me. She introduced herself as the HR Business Partner to the legal team. The interview was going as expected. From “Tell me about yourself.” to “Why law?” to “Why Star India?”, until the dreaded “I see that you haven’t interned with any law firm, is there any specific reason for it? Or was it purely out of choice?”
This was a question the answer to which would lead to the next question: “Why do you want to work with a company as a fresher? Why not a law firm?” To be absolutely honest, I knew the answer to both these questions. But I decided that my honesty may cost me a job if what I said next made the HR feel that I wasn’t up for hard-work which was absolutely in contradiction to my personality. There is no way you want the HR to feel that you do not have it in you to put in the work. And this was a deciding factor.
Instead of saying what I have always believed to be a driving force behind the decision to be working in-house, I gave a standard and half-true answer: “I believe I have both legal and managerial skills, and companies would be the best place to put both of them to use and grow.” She didn’t buy it. She repeated the question again. I stuck to my answer, thinking this was a test to see if I crack under pressure and change my answer – to figure out if I was fickle minded about my decision to join companies and the reason behind it.
By the fourth time I was asked the very same question by Ms. Bhosale, I knew she wasn’t convinced at all. She could see through me, but I was in a position from where I could not return. And definitely, changing the answer wasn’t anymore an option. I knew that my chances of getting this dream job at a company that not only encourages young talent but also trains them (which is a gem to find in the legal industry) was almost gone.
So, I was more than glad when she moved on to my resume and began asking questions from there. I must say, I was impressed. In the domain of back office administration, Robotic Automation refers to automation where a computer drives existing enterprise application software in the same way that a user does. This means that unlike traditional application software, Robotic Automation is a tool or platform that operates and orchestrates other application software through the existing application’s user interface and in this sense is not “integrated”.
3. What are the advantages of robotically orchestrating existing applications through the user interface?
• No IT infrastructure changes are required — there is no integration requirement — the robots interface with any application through the user interface in the same way a user does.
• No integration costs — robots drive existing applications.
• IT robots are “trained” by their users by being “shown” how to complete a task. This is akin to training a new employee.
• A robot once trained can scale across any number of other robots.
• The robot knowledge is extended and re-used over time.
• A robot is trained in the live environment making projects less expensive and much faster than traditional IT.
• Multiple robots applied to a task can be synchronised to deliver large-scale robotic platforms.
4. How easy is it to train and manage the robots activity?
• A robot is trained through a flow chart of the procedure. This flow-chart is managed and audited to document the procedure.
• Management information is gathered automatically as the robot operates. All processes generate statistical profiles as a by-product of doing the action. This allows tuning and development of a process in light of real data.
• Modern robots systems come with failover and recovery inbuilt as core capabilities. It means that if changes take place, or downstream failures occur a “smart” response can be trained into the overall system.

5. Why is Robotic Automation different from Business Process Management Systems — BPMS?
BPMS is principally aimed at improving IT architecture to allow greater flexibility in automation and process management capability. Most often its aim is to support agent productivity through desktop acceleration, application connectivity, and workflow management. As such BPMS is part of the core IT tool set, to which adjustments outside of configurable parameters to a solution normally require a traditional IT change-program. Most often connectivity between applications, and design work on how applications should be integrated against business requirements is a key skill that is required to operate BPMS effectively.
Robotic Automation is principally aimed at clerical staff replacement as opposed to clerical staff acceleration as with BMPS. The philosophy of the approach is therefore to target routine, repetitive, rules-based tasks (procedures as sub-tasks within a larger business processes). Such tasks can often tie clerical staff down for long stretches of time. Very often such tasks are small, possibly involving 5–10 people, and so do not justify large IT, or even BPMS, projects to automate. The difference for robot automation is that no IT is required, and business users can “show” the robot what to do. The capability is therefore distributed to operations staff so as to divide-and-conquer many mid-to-small automation initiatives that would otherwise require people.
6. Is Robotic Automation competitive with BPMS?
No, Robotic automation extends and complements BPMS and SOA initiatives which are attacking the automation challenge from a different, top down, IT driven angle. Robotic automation is aimed at small-to-mid size automation initiatives. Where speed and size and agility are major factors, then robotic automation is often the fastest and most efficient approach. When larger initiatives are required with a fuller “Business Process” character then BPMS may be better suited.
This difference in scale is illustrated with the so called Long Tail of Automation Requirements. This says that core IT deals with the high volume bulk processing requirements an organisation may have. Typically, these are core ERP systems, mainframe accounting and core data bases. As we move towards the middle of the graph requirements become more specialist and diverse. This is where an organisation often differentiates its product and service offerings. Typical technologies here are workflow, desktop integration, BPMS, agent acceleration. These are large IT control programs that service to offer a platform for automation and work management.
Finally we have the third section of Long Tail — these tasks are characterized by their diversity. Often they are too diverse to make an IT change program, and may be too small to justify IT project costs. Here traditional approaches have been to outsource, or offshore in order to adjust labour rates to make the task more competitive. Robotic automation offers an alternative to off shoring or outsourcing — presenting a new cost-band of labour based on robots.
7. Is Robotic Automation a platform for rogue IT?
No — Robotic automation actually addresses rogue IT (i.e., disparate initiatives across the business that may create risks to business standards, continuity and brand quality). Robotic automation addresses this issue on a number of levels:
• Robotic Automation is normally housed, monitored, licensed and controlled by IT, or at the very least a centralized governance body. This group enforce a central usage policy configured within all robots.
• Robotic processes are accretive — objects are built and are then available for re-use across the business. This allows disparate groups to all share and build common resources supporting much greater resource re-use than many SW environments.

8. How do robots deal with human judgment?
Robots for now only follow rules. Where a procedure requires interpretation and skill in judging an outcome then a robot may not be suitable. One technique that is common is to re-organize task-steps so that any judgment is dealt with up front — the work is prepared for robotic automation. In this way robots can handle bulk rules and hand off to humans once judgment is needed.

Once operational then the robot procedures offer full requirements and templates for traditional IT change program. Best projects for robot automation are bulk repetitive rules based procedures. 12. How long does a robot automation project take?
Typical projects are measured in weeks. One heuristic is that it takes as long to train a robot as it does a human. Complex new task will take longer depending of the level of object re-use available.
13. Does the approach require a specialist development environment?
No, as robots are trained in the live environment the traditional enterprise IT development environment is not required. Instead a robot is trained in the live environment just as user would be. Before active-commit the robot is monitored through all its procedural steps with MI and monitoring tools to validate the procedure. The first stage of go-live can be set on “trickle” speed to ensure that procedures are acting according to requirements. Once output is cleared the process can be “accelerated” to mass automation speed.

The Mini-Recovery Routine: How to stop feeling stressed out and exhausted in just one minute

Do you ever feel like you are rushing from one situation to the next?
You know that feeling when your mind keeps wandering from distraction to distraction, making it almost impossible to fully focus on doing one thing at a time?
And when you do have a moment, do you ever rush to check out your phone and see if anyone has emailed you, written you a text message or at the very least posted exciting celebrity pictures for you to look at?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are probably feeling restless, anxious and irritated.
And you are not able to show up performing your best in those life-changing moments that would mean so much to you.
For top performers like Olympians, this could mean working extremely hard for 4 years and then choking during the money time of their grand performance.
Can you imagine how disappointing that must be?
But I bet even for you, it can be heartbreaking when you don’t show your best self in a big job interview, business negotiation or even while sitting with a hot date for a sip of coffee.
To prevent such disappointments, world-class athletes have pre-competition rituals that help them become fully focused and concentrated.
But they are not the only ones:
Many top businessmen and entertainers have rituals that help them escape their rushed and chaotic world so that they can slow down their mind and show up focused and sharp at business meetings or gigs.
And so should you.
This is because slowing down from time to time allows us to experience many benefits.
For example:
We start feeling more energized.
We think more creatively.
We connect stronger with the people around us.
We also become aware of our own thoughts and feelings so that we are able to make conscious decisions.
And the best part:
In just 60 seconds we can get ourselves into a much better state to handle high-pressure situations, thanks to what I call the “Mini Time Out Routine”.
The Mini Time Out Routine allows us to transition from one moment to the next with a clearer mind.
Here is what you do  before entering an important situation:
Find a quiet spot and close your eyes for 30 seconds.
Slow down your breathing, and when you feel ready, count 10 long breaths.
Then set an intention for your upcoming situation, and visualize yourself overcoming any obstacles so that you eventually achieve the result you desire.
Spend a few seconds experiencing the positive emotions that you would enjoy following a successful outcome.
Finally, open your eyes and make your final preparations for the upcoming situation.
That's it- 60 seconds, and you will feel so much sharper in your head, and fresher in your body.
Of course, you can make some adjustments so that this routine suits your specific needs.
The key is to enjoy regular moments in which you take a break from your daily hassles, and set an intention for your upcoming activity.
But let me warn you:
The big challenge for most people is that they rarely remember to do a routine before important occasions if they didn’t practice it in advance. This is why you want to use the Mini Time Out Routine several times a day and gradually rewire yourself to automatically slow down on a regular basis. Once you do that, you will then consciously use this routine before high-pressure situations and perform better than ever!
To help you follow through with this routine, I suggest you introduce mental triggers.
Let me share some examples:
An athlete might use entering an arena as his mental trigger before competition or practice sessions.
An author could train to get himself into the right state every time he sits down at his desk.
A businessman could use opening a door before entering his office as his mental triggers.
So think about when you want to slow down daily, and what you could use as a mental trigger. To help you get started, I also recommend you set yourself reminders on your phone to slow down several times a day. Everytime the alarm goes off, just take 60 seconds to follow through with your Mini Time Out Routine.
To sum up, all you need to do is this:
Get into the habit of slowing down at least twice a day, by using the Mini Time Out Routine.
Use this routine before important high-performance situations.

The Beginning
A year ago today, I received an offer to study at the University of Cambridge. I think it’s safe to say that a lot has changed since then. I’ve met new people, explored new places, but most importantly, I’ve become a new person. I am now an English Undergraduate at Homerton College. I've created this blog for many reasons. Primarily, to document my time at university. I’ve always been pretty awful at keeping a diary, so perhaps this will be more successful than the barely started journals that are currently shoved at the back of my wardrobe. The other reason is that I remember having so many burning questions while applying to Cambridge, and I thought that perhaps some of you may as well. So please, ask away! I think the best way to start this blog is to tell you a little bit about myself and my experience with Cambridge. Where better a place to start than at the beginning? 
“Have you considered applying to Oxbridge?”. These are the first words spoken to any high achieving student at my school’s Sixth Form interview. When it was my turn to be asked this, the honest answer was no. My school’s track record at getting students to the ‘bridge was abysmal, to say the least. Only one person had ever received a Cambridge offer, and that was nine years ago. Funnily enough, he also went to Homerton College (you’ll realise how spooky this is a little later). But, my Personal Tutor wouldn’t let me take no for an answer, and for that I will be forever grateful. So, the Oxbridge box was ticked and it all began from there. 
I officially knew that I wanted to study English from Year 10. Unofficially, I’d been in love with books since I learnt to read. I conquered Harry Potter in Year 2, and every Christmas since then a book was always at the top of my wish list. I think I have my parents to thank for this, as they spent countless hours reading to me as a child. Thanks Mum and Dad. Although I was statistically better at science subjects, which I really did enjoy, they lacked the magic that I could only find in literature. As with any arts student, my teachers always questioned what I could achieve with an English degree, and whether I had considered maths or medicine instead. Yes, I had considered them, but my life motto is “pursue your passions” and I certainly wasn’t going to betray this during my teens, before my life had even started. 
I don’t just love English because of the books. Obviously that’s a key aspect to my degree, but what I am infatuated with is the debate. I love hearing others’ opinions, and using their thoughts to make me reconsider my arguments, or to make them stronger. I think listening and adapting to what you have heard is the key to empathy and an important life skill that we could all learn. Literature not only teaches you about writing, but about religion, politics, art, economics, history and so much more. For me, it was the best degree to quench my curiosity. 
I'll leave the details of my application and interviews to another post. Cut to January, and much to my surprise, I had an offer via the Winter Pool. Doesn’t sound too weird, right? Just you wait. Now it’s time to introduce George. George has been one of my best friends ever since the start of Sixth Form. We were in the same friendship group, he was Head Boy, I was Head Girl. And despite the odds, we are the only two people to have made it to Cambridge from my school in nine years. And despite the fact that I applied to Selwyn, we now both study at Homerton College. It gets spookier. `At Hom (more affectionately referred to as home), all of the 100+ Freshers live in a building, which accommodates around 300. And guess who lives opposite me? That’s right, George. I wish we’d placed a bet on those odds in Year 7, because we’d be laughing right now. I can’t escape that boy, nor would I want to.
Also, let me just quickly add that I really don’t mean to come across boastful or self-congratulatory in any shape or form. In fact, at home I refrain from talking about Cambridge as much as possible in fear of the ‘elitist’ stigma that seems to be undetachable from the university. By emphasising the fact that my school doesn’t get many people into Oxbridge, all I aim to do is to show you that achieving a place is possible for everyone, and not just those at private schools with special admissions officers.  Okay, now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I’ll continue. 
Back to Sixth Form. I’ve never really been stressed out by exams before, but Year 13 was another story. Anxiety around exam period is common, but the amount of pressure that my school had placed on my to meet my offer was crazy. I won’t go into the details, but I spent about two months on the verge of a mental break down. But it all worked out okay in the end. If you’re reading this and are in a similar situation, trust me it gets better. 
My first term at Homerton was hectic, intense and stressful, but it was the best two months of my life. I honestly couldn’t imagine having been happier and I have never felt like I belong anywhere more. I’ll go into the details of my college in a separate post, because life at Homerton is incredibly different to other colleges and it is in no way a microcosm for the rest of Cambridge. In fact, I’m probably not representative of how most people feel at Cambridge, and for that I am incredibly lucky. 
I am due back at Cambridge in three days, and I’ll have a further four days before I start Lent Term. I could not be more excited. I’ll fill you in on Michaelmas Term, adapting to the bubble and finding my friends another time. If you choose to follow this blog, I’ll teach you all about Cindies, bops, the Van of Life, formals, balls, early morning library sessions, what it’s like to have multiple near death experiences on a bike every day, and much much more. But for now, sit back and enjoy the ride, because it’s going to be a long, but hopefully equally amazing, three years.
