FIFA U-17 World Cup 2023: Meet the Match Officials

In a significant announcement, the FIFA Referees Committee has unveiled the team of match officials for the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup Indonesia 2023™. Furthermore, they have carefully selected a total of 18 referees, 36 assistant referees, and 18 video match officials for this prestigious tournament, marking a historic moment as Indonesia gets ready to host its first-ever FIFA competition.   The Legacy of Refereeing Chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee, Pierluigi Collina, expressed excitement about the tournament's significance, not only as a sporting event but also as a milestone for the team of referees. He emphasized that refereeing would be an integral part of the legacy left by the U-17 World Cup in Indonesia.  

Preparing for Youth Excellence

Under the watchful eye of the FIFA Refereeing Subdivision, the match officials will undergo rigorous preparations for this vital youth competition. Their training will encompass a wide range of topics, including a deep understanding of the game, effective teamwork, and the crucial art of positioning to make accurate decisions.   Striving for Uniformity FIFA's Director of Refereeing, Massimo Busacca, stressed the importance of FIFA's refereeing philosophy in ensuring uniformity and consistency in officiating. The aim is to select the best match officials from around the world for FIFA competitions, upholding the highest standards in the sport.  

Learning from Real Matches

In the days leading up to the tournament kick-off, the chosen match officials will participate in a final preparation seminar. Here, they will meticulously review and analyze video clips of actual match scenarios. They will also engage in practical training sessions with players, all of which will be recorded to provide instant feedback from instructors.   Elevating Careers Collina highlighted that the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia would provide a platform for talented FIFA match officials to showcase their skills on the international stage. It represents a crucial step forward in their careers and follows the success of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina.
