everyone’s talking about nerd gojo (thank you @to00fu for the meal), but what about nerd nanami? and i’m not talking about just any nerd nanami, im talking about letterboxd nerd! nanami —
who wears a “directed by quentin tarantino” tshirt under his suit because he's a bit embarassed about unironically liking this type of merch, and who actually reads through all the letterboxd published articles from cover to cover.
his profile is so organised and he leaves such beautifully written and critical reviews that people who read it go crazy and spam the review’s comments section with “who is this diva 😭” and “WHO LET BRO COOK 🗣️” (he doesn’t understand the meaning of these phrases, but yuuji told him they’re positive phrases so he lets them be).
he's very selective about who he follows — a few of his irl's do know he's on letterboxd, but when they ask him for his profile he does not bother entertaining them. it's not that he's ashamed of his profile or taste, he just likes to keep his irl's seperate from his online activity.
letterboxd nerd! nanami is heavily against piracy, and he refuses to opt for the “easy way out” when it comes to watching regional films. (he once took a flight all the way to paris on a weekday just to watch a movie that hadn't started international screening).
not to mention, he has a lot of friends that are directors, producers, script-writers, actors etc…it's not even a flex, he was genuinely the most supportive figure in their lives when they were starting out, and often times he gets free tickets or VIP passes to special movie screenings as a way of thanks.
letterboxd nerd! nanami is always one of the top three or five reviews in most trending movies on letterboxd, but imagine his horror when casual letterboxd user! reader bests his review and pushes him down to seventh place.
the horror.
and it's not even a “good” review, as nanami says — it's just a rant about how hot the cast is. and for some outrageous reason, everyone seems to be upvoting your poorly written review instead of his meticulously detailed review about the script writing, acting, soundtrack, camera angles…you get what i mean.
naturally, letterboxd nerd! nanami is pissed.
and he's even more so when he realizes that casual letterboxd user! reader doesn't even log films on the daily — no, it seems more like you just remember this app exists and then log in whatever you just watched. you didn't even bother putting up a profile picture up until yesterday. and why the hell have you rated most of the disney movies a 5/5? do you not know what an objective rating is?
letterboxd nerd! nanami, after stalking your watched list, prays you never come online to log your films again. he can't afford to be bested by you again. until he sees a notification that makes him groan out loud in annoyance —
y/ncore has started following you.
bonus: nerd gojo and letterboxd nerd! nanami are mutuals and close friends on letterboxd (under aliases of course), but both of them hate each other irl — nerd gojo mocks him for spending time on “lame” things like movies, while letterboxd nerd! nanami scoffs at his blatant attitude of “not appreciating cinema.”

⋆.˚ call it what you want
in which proplayer!sae could care less about what the media was calling you two, if it means being with you again
warnings: none // wc: 647
note: fem reader! badly proofread
the star midfielder of re al, itoshi sae, has a spotless reputation. there wasn't a single stain on his image, not one rumor or dating scandal. it was a matter of heated debate online; there were multiple twitter threads regarding sae's love life. was he truly single? perhaps not into women at all? did he have a secret relationship with another celebrity? if he did, he was remarkably good at never being caught.
so when a photograph of sae leading a girl to a secluded room, shot at an angle where one could only see a flash of glimmering hair, goes viral, the entire internet was wholly appalled.
sae scoffs as you read another article from your phone's news feed to him. "hey, look at this!" your tone is joking as you point towards the device's screen. "they're questioning if i'm some top hollywood celeb. is it because i dyed my hair recently?"
"love, that's stupid. you know dispatch reports more lies than truths." he replies, nose wrinkling at the thought. sure, you were beautiful, more so than any actress, but he really didn't enjoy all of the media speculation he received. was it so wrong of him to want something normal, to have a private relationship?
you'd known sae since before he went to spain, when you were just two simple kids trying to go through life the right way. when he had left, it'd caused a huge buzz in your town, japan finally receiving international attention for football. and you'd long since been regarded as sae's closest friend, so everyone was clamoring to ask you: would he ever come back? the drama queens threw their fits (sae had no shortage of admirers even then), many people called you a liar when you said that you didn't know, the pressure caused you to isolate yourself—done with how nosy the world was being. and of course, you missed sae more than anything. you'd mindlessly twist your fingers through the silver necklace he gifted you right before his flight, the 冴 character shining in the pale moonlight. no one else knew the words he'd suddenly whispered into your ears before he boarded without sparing a glance back; "i love you, i'll swear i'll see you again."
you'd kept that necklace for years, until itoshi sae appeared in japan once more, to play for a mysterious soccer match; and a front row ticket was mysteriously sent to your email. which you had never changed from before he left. nervous anticipation floods you, you were about to see your best friend who you hadn't heard from in years. when you finally spot him on the field, he looked nothing less than a daydream, dark pink locks impossibly perfect even against the wind and sweat. as he's being introduced, sae's gaze somehow found you amongst the crowd—you might have died. though he knew you would show up, he couldn't help but look for extra assurance. and you couldn't have predicted the whirl of events that happened after. his manager pulling you aside, saying that "itoshi sae needs to meet you," sae walking towards you with his head down, evidently trying to avoid the paparazzi, grabbing your hands and guiding you into an empty interviewing room; teal eyes glimmering with unsaid words.
your lips inevitably crashed into each other, you both had heard the cameras click and seen the flash of brilliant white, but none of you cared. "at least i did one thing right," is what sae had murmured after a few minutes, deft fingers tracing across your cheeks. his eyes flickered over the chain he gave you, one you'd never taken off. the media could call it what they wanted, because in that moment it was only you and sae. though perhaps it had always been that way—all it took was for one of you to see it.
a/n: dude i'm so obsessed w this song rn. also i finally stopped slandering sae who would've thought this day would come so soon!
masterlist.

“ the wag diaries ”
How You Met
~ Millie Bright ~
~~~~~~~~~~
• for the first time since you were sixteen you were single
• and you had anticipated it'd stay that way for at least a year
• but when millie bright walked into your life all the hesitancy in the world couldn't stop the inevitable
• growing up in a single father household in Kingston you had been raised a Chelsea fan
• no matter how much your toxic Brummie boyfriend turned baby daddy turned husband turned ex tried to switch you Villa
• having gone through a recent divorce and sexual awakening you were trying to navigate your new life as a single mum of three
• with inherited new funds and incoming child support your first instinct was to do something spontaneous
• something you never could have before
• with your youngest barely able to hold his head up
• your eldest daughter a football fanatic nonstop talking about the upcoming world cup
• and your middle girl obsessed with all wildlife, and a particular new interest in sea turtles, the answer seemed obvious to you
• hopping online you had one goal and within an afternoon had secured flights to spend the entire summer in australia
• for your family being in australia and not watching the Women’s World Cup would have been a travesty
• so you secured tickets to the first England group game and the final
• within a week of arrival you were all sat in matching jerseys, front row, awaiting the England vs Haiti kick-off
• flags and signs waving in the air ecstatically it was no surprise your littles were noticed
• by the cameras
• but also by the team themselves
• Georgia directed her celebrations first to her family and friends, but secondly to the two young blondes going crazy goalside (aka your daughters)
• after the match all the lionesses made their way around the pitch, spending extra time in the fan section where the four of you collected a number of signatures
• the absolute adoration on the captains face as she caught your eye for the first time was unmissable to her best friend
• Rachel joining her side immediately to distracted and entertain the kids beside you
• having gone through a somewhat recent breakup herself Millie had found herself a bit of a player in recent months
• so when her charm isn't so quick to work with you she falters
• somehow your total oblivion is even more adorably endearing to the older blonde
• it’s not intentional of course, you simply hadn't had enough experience flirting to recognise it
• especially from an International footballer!
• you agree to spend her recovery day with her, knowing just how many irreplaceable memories it'd create for your kids (and maybe you a little too)
• spending the day behind the scenes at australia zoo with the lionesses was more than you could have dreamed
• football for Kolby, animals for Ayla, and twenty-three football players all dotting attention on Lex
• other than exchanging numbers at the end of the day nothing romantic happens that day
• but Millie was unable to ignore her obvious attraction to you
• texts between you becoming increasingly common and tickets to all matches being offered
• it took longer than either would've liked but eventually Millie found a free hour and a teammate willing to babysit
• a sunrise beach walk with coffee in hand was too romantic for even you to ignore the signs of
• somehow you became groupies, discovering the country while following the team to every game
• falling for Millie came surprisingly easily
• watching the way she bonded with your children was heart melting
• and just a glance in your direction had you pinching yourself
• how was this your real life after the shit deal you'd been dealt so far?!
• she felt the same way though, not believing someone like you had walked into her life and xoukd be interested in her
• semi-final celebrations were moments of dreams
• neither of you being found too far away from the other at the after party
• ending the night on the beach, both a little tipsy, laid watching the stars, you finally share your first kiss
• the labels of your relationship not coming at quite as happy a moment
• england had just come second in the world cup and you couldn't be prouder, especially after coming to know the girls personally
• but with captaincy resting on her shoulders Millie couldn’t help but be disappointed in herself, despite her pride team in the as a whole
• finding a quite moment to pull the older girl away from the post-match madness and media you held her as she finally allow the mask to drop
• as you held her crying in your arms you still found her the most beautiful person you'd ever met, you knew you had to make her yours
~~~~~~~~~~

Kaiju Week in Review (July 9-15, 2023)

It was hectic, but I think I enjoyed this year's G-Fest more than the last. My friend Alana and I went all-out with our costumes (to the point of a rare costume parade skit with the lovely Battra on the left). Dad debuted his unbelievable Oxygen Destroyer replica in the model contest, which became part of my Dr. Serizawa costume on the last day. I met up with @kyodaikino, @bog-o-bones, @zagorudan, @spankzilla85—and The Boy Who Cried Godzilla on Saturday, in what I believe is the first time two Wikizilla staff members have been in the same room. The Pickwick selections got me to visit twice for the first time in ages; truly, a visible projection of Godzilla (2014) is unmissable. I missed half of Kiyotaka Taguchi's new Daikaiju Bugon short while getting an autograph from TJ Storm, but I did pick up a Blu-ray of his Female Weapon 701 (and took copious notes during his Q&A... no, he wasn't announced as a guest, he just showed up). Flight complications foiled Yumiko Shaku's first panel, but it was standing room only for her second, which was one of the best guest interviews I can remember from the con in a while. Oh, and @bog-o-bones miraculously snagged me her last autograph ticket.
youtube
The teaser for the next Toho Godzilla film, Godzilla Minus One, was released in such close proximity to the con that it didn't get a panel. As with Shin Godzilla, Toho isn't playing coy with the monster's design, but is leaving it (and another famous director, Takashi Yamazaki) to shoulder much of the weight of promoting the film. We don't even know the cast yet! Minus One takes place during the Allied occupation of Japan; uncharted and quite provocative territory for a Godzilla film. Toho International President Koji Ueda explained the title thusly: "Japan, which had already been devastated by the war, faces a new threat with Godzilla, bringing the country into the 'minus.'" Toho International will distribute the film in the United States on December 1, a record turnaround time for a G-film. Going off the major theater chains posting about it, Minus One might actually receive a wide release, which hasn't happened to a Toho entry since Godzilla 2000.
Cleopatra Entertainment has announced corrections to the numerous subtitling issues in its Shin Ultraman Blu-ray and DVD releases which should be rolling out more-or-less now. They're also shipping replacement discs (by request) to folks who wound up with the original versions.
Toho International will be launching an online American store for Godzilla merch, which will hopefully make this stuff a bit easier to collect, both in terms of cost and ordering. They're promising "a mix of items from the Japanese Godzilla Store as well as international exclusives."
youtube
Keizo Murase's Brush of the God has again been delayed, this time to an unspecified date in 2024, but they softened the blow with another great-looking teaser.

oh while sharing gossip I learned new lore about sister’s friend’s ex, which is that… he was *convinced* that plane tickets would be cheaper closer to the date of the flight. and his reasoning was that airlines would be more desperate to fill seats. this was an adult man that was operating on internal logic easily disproven if you go out and talk to any other person in the states. also easily disproven if you look up anything online ever about it. nothing sister’s friend said could convince him. lo and behold the tickets were more expensive when they were bought closer to the date of the flight. HELLO??!!
#my ramblings#even if he hadn’t flown ever before it would be no excuse#because that’s all the more reason to LISTEN TO OTHER PEOPLE???#some people are so engrossed in their internal logic they mistake it for reality#like a dumbass

I've been away from tumblr for a few months. In October 2021, my Dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer. I felt like my whole world was falling apart. He already followed me on tumblr, so I filled my feed with things he would like so he had something new and interesting (or a cute cat) to see every day. (I was already posting a lot for him, but now my queue was entirely for him.) It was a small thing, but I wanted to do anything to help make him smile or distract him. As it was a neuroendocrine cancer, there were treatment options, and soon he was back to living life as if nothing was wrong. But I still kept my queue running for him. In November 2023, a scan was misread. They told my Dad his cancer was responding well to treatment, and he wouldn't need any more nuclear medicine for two years. Unfortunately, this mistake meant my Dad passed away on January 26th 2024. There's no question that this is the worst thing to ever happen to me. My Dad is the person I am/was closest to in the whole world. I've never felt pain like this. I don't know what to do with my tumblr now. I've had it for over a decade, but I've been posting for my Dad for so long that it feels wrong to post without him. I know that's silly. I just miss him so much.
I'm going to post the eulogy I wrote for him below the cut. I don't expect anyone to read it, but I want it to exist somewhere online. I'm really proud of it. It has mistakes - repetitions of words etc. - but I also think it's the best thing I've ever written, because it's about my Dad.
As a professional writer, I’ve felt a lot of pressure to write a eulogy that does my Dad justice. The problem is, I don’t think that’s possible. Especially without him here to give me notes. My Dad has always given me his opinion on my writing at whatever stage it was at, bouncing ideas back and forth with me and arguing over intricate punctuation but, on this occasion, he can’t. I hope he’d like this anyway.
I could talk forever about my Dad. There are so many things I want to tell people about him, about his love and excitement for the world and his joy in getting to live each day. To quote Marcus Aurelius, as my Dad often did, “When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.” This sentiment defined him, really.
My Dad and I have so much in common. We traded books back and forth. He introduced me to his favourite shows and I showed him mine. He showed me his favourite movies from when he was growing up, and we were always first in line to see new releases at the Odeon in Wrexham. I would spend hours hanging out on the couch in his study as he worked and played music, talking me through his love and admiration of various songs and bands, like Led Zeppelin, Genesis, The Jam, The Smiths. We talked a mile a minute over dinner, always excited to share whatever new thing we’d learned that day. We experimented with various recipes and he gave me my love of cooking. We debated politics constantly, always talked about what was in the news, forwarded interesting posts and memes to each other across multiple social media platforms. Even when I lived on another continent we were in contact with each other every day, keeping track of our respective timezones so we could always find time to talk.
My heart aches every time I read a news article about some interesting new archaeological finding or a new discovery in space, because I want to share it with him. There are so many movies we planned to see, upcoming TV shows we wanted to watch, books we were waiting to be released.
I want to talk to him about the new Taylor Swift album and the Grammys she just won. As some of you may know, my Dad was a Swiftie – he was in the top 0.5% of Taylor Swift Spotify listeners last year. He was a fan of her before I was, often falling asleep to her 1989 album on international flights. He bought us tickets to see her Eras Tour together this summer and we were so excited. I can’t describe the pain I felt when last month he told me that I’d have to go and enjoy it without him. Because he should be here to see it with me. He loved stained glass – even taking classes and making his own artwork. He promised to teach me this summer, and now I’ll have to do it without him. But I’ll still do it. Like I’ll still go to the Eras concert – because it’s what he would have wanted, and because it keeps his memory alive.
I recognise how lucky I am that he is my Dad. So many things had to happen to make it so. Various ancestors had to meet and have children. My parents needed to be born, needed to both decide to go to the same university, needed some anonymous admin person to assign them both to the same university halls where they would ultimately meet. All so that one day I would come in to being and he would be my Dad. The chances of that happening, for everything to have gone right, are so infinitesimally small. And yet they happened. How miraculous is that?
I am who I am because of him. As a young man, he reviewed books for The Oxford Times and Interzone, a Sci-Fi and Fantasy magazine. (He was particularly proud to interview Terry Pratchett, his favourite author, and have his quote used on Pratchett’s books for years to come). He fell in love with stories and storytelling, a love that he passed down to me. Without him, I don’t know if I would have become a screenwriter and author. Storytelling is such a huge part of me, and I don’t know who I’d be without it, and without him.
There are so many big, impressive things that my Dad did and achieved through his lifetime, but the things that make up a life are the smaller moments. My parents dancing around his study to God Only Knows by The Beach Boys. His love of all our cats across the years and his special relationship with each of them. The time we went out into the garden, on a freezing cold night in November, to watch the Leonids – shooting stars – falling brightly through the atmosphere. Picking me up from Gobowen station every time I came back from London or undergrad, no matter how late my train was. His specific way of stacking the dishwasher that only I could emulate. Summer holidays swimming in the pool, eating ice cream together, and marvelling over his tan.
The problem with loving my Dad so much is that it’s incredibly painful now he’s gone. One of his favourite Marvel TV shows, Wandavision, had the line “what is grief, if not love persevering?” There is so much grief because there has always been so much love between us. And I am thankful for that. Thankful for him, and everything he has done to build a beautiful life for our family.
My Dad’s last words were beautiful. Something we often said to each other, from childhood to adulthood, was “I love you more than the moon, and the stars, and the wide, wide world”. I started saying it to him, none of us knowing the end was hurtling so quickly towards us. He smiled as I began to say the familiar words, and as my Mum and brother joined in, so did he, still smiling as he said “and the wide, wide world”. And that was it.
'To reference Marcus Aurelius once more, he talks in Meditations about how just a day–just a minute–of happiness, of perfection, of peace, is enough. The same goes for the people we love. That we ever had my Dad in the first place is a wonderful thing, something to be so grateful for. Whatever comes after, whatever fortune has in store for us in the future? It can’t change that. What happens next matters less because of the wonderfulness of having had my Dad at all.'
He is my best friend. He will always be my best friend. Whatever happened, I knew he would look after me. That he loved me and cared for me and that with him I was safe. He would look after our family, always. And he did. Even now we’re discovering things he did and put in place to make sure we were okay.
I know I need to stop talking, although, as I said at the beginning, I could talk forever about my Dad. I will finish with a quote from Terry Pratchett: “No one is finally dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away.” Hopefully my Dad will live forever.
