How long is my MOT valid for?
Tumblr media
Many modern cars have a rack and pinion steering arrangement. The universal joints, primary and intermediate shafts, and the steering rack or gearbox are all part of the rack and pinion.
This central device receives input from the driver via the steering wheel and steering column and provides a mechanical signal to the tie rods and steering shafts, allowing for smooth and efficient left and right turns.
Check MOT expiry date for your car and have the problem fixed if you're having steering troubles. A malfunctioning steering rack is characterised by an unusually tight steering wheel, leaking power steering fluid, grinding noises when steering, and a burning oil odour.
When a mechanic carries out a routine full service, many garages offer a 50 plus point check of the car. These checks allow a mechanic to identify any other issues in the car that need to be addressed immediately or in the very near future.
What Happens If I Don’t Service My Car?
A vehicle service completed as per manufactures schedule makes sure that your car runs safely. You risk unknown damage to your vehicle if you don't do this, whether it's general wear and tear or an engine problem. Mechanics will detect deterioration during a service, which can save you money over the long term by preventing you from having to pay to replace the part (if repairs are possible). Your car may also become slow and sluggish as your engine efficiency and fuel economy decline, reducing your vehicle's typical life span.
When Should You Service a Car?
A full service should be performed on a vehicle every 12,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first, according to the manufacturer's schedule and mechanics' recommendations. Some mechanics recommend that you have your automobile serviced every six months to have your lights, steering, brakes, and tyres checked (depending on how often you drive).
However, the steering rack will eventually wear out. Repairing this critical component quickly and efficiently can make the difference between a small inconvenience and a substantial mechanical replacement.
If you check your cars MOT history online and establish that a previous MOT test failed due to a play in the steering, then this could well have been related to a faulty steering rack.
The steering rack is the nerve centre of the steering system. The ability to drive your car is affected when it wears down or completely breaks. This can be highly dangerous if it occurs while you are driving. Being aware of the warning indications of a poor or malfunctioning steering rack or gearbox can save you money, time, and lessen the risk of a crash for these (and other) reasons.
As previously stated, if you run an online MOT history check and find that a previous MOT test failed owing to heavy steering, a faulty steering rack could have been to blame.
The following are several indications or warning signals that indicate a potential problem with your steering rack:
1.Tight and Heavy Steering Wheel - Hydraulic pressure powers today's rack and pinion steering systems, allowing for effortless and quick steering wheel manipulation. Excessive heat build-up in the steering rack, or a lack of hydraulic pressure from the power steering unit, causes the steering wheel to feel tight or difficult to operate. In any event, it's a problem that won't go away, thus it should be checked up by a qualified mechanic as soon as feasible. Adding more power steering fluid or making a minor adjustment will sometimes solve the problem and help your steering rack last longer. If you check MOT history of your car, a common reason for failure is low power steering fluid.
2.Power Steering Fluid Leaks - As previously said, low power steering fluid can indicate tight steering. Because the steering box is hydraulically driven, the fluid levels will not drop until there is a leak elsewhere in the system. When power steering fluid starts to leak, it indicates a loose fitting, a broken gasket, or some technical issue that needs to be fixed right away. If this is not done, excessive heat will build up in the steering rack, potentially damaging other components and leading to a collision. The fragrance of leaking steering fluid sets it apart from other fluids because it smells like burning oil. It will be crimson or pink in colour and dripping out the back of your vehicle. If you detect this type of fluid under your car, contact a mechanic as soon as possible to have the leak evaluated and repaired before it does further damage.
3.Grinding Sounds When Steering - Lack of proper lubrication and service is the most common cause of a defective or failing steering rack. When you turn left or right, the excess heat causes metal-on-metal contact, resulting in a loud grinding noise. This sound is most noticeable while turning and hitting a bump at the same moment, such as when driving into a driveway. If you hear a grinding sound when steering left or right, contact a trained car mechanic immediately away so they can identify the problem and, if necessary, replace the steering rack.
4.Smell of Burning Oil - This is a less typical symptom of a damaged steering rack. When the steering gearbox is hot, the strong odour of burnt oil will be present because power steering fluid smells like burnt oil. If this happens, pull over quickly, find a safe parking spot, and contact a mechanic as soon as possible. When a steering gearbox overheats, continuing to drive can end in a fire and devastating damage.
How Long Does a Car Service Take?
Depending on the vehicle and how easy it is to access the necessary components, an interim service will take around an hour and a half to complete. If several issues are detected, this time may increase. A full service, by definition, is more extensive and will take longer to complete, typically three hours.
Is It Illegal to Not Service Your Car?
Servicing your vehicle, unlike a MOT, is not a legal obligation, nor is it a prerequisite for validating your vehicle insurance.
Although frequent car service is not required by law, it is strongly advised because, without it, the condition of your car might degrade, jeopardising your vehicle's safety and performance, as well as potentially triggering costly repairs.
In every vehicle using a rack and pinion steering system, the steering rack is crucial. If you see any of the above symptoms or warning signs, contact a skilled mechanic in your area right away to have any damage diagnosed and repaired or carry out a steering rack replacement.

Guide To Choosing A Pump For The Chemical Industry
Tumblr media
Chemical pumps are those used in the production of chemical substances and compounds. The design and construction of chemical pumps is able to withstand a wide range of viscosity, corrosion, and corrosion of various materials. Other chemical pumps are also meter pumps, allowing controlled measurement and chemical flow. Many industries use chemical pumps, including conventional industries, oil and gas, brewery and distillery, semiconductor, and more.
There are a few factors to consider when buying a chemical pump. Choosing the right pump for a particular program is the first step in choosing a chemical pump that will meet the application requirements and chemical media. When choosing a chemical pump, these are some of the most important things to keep in mind. What are those? Let's talk about it.
Material of Construction
The first element of testing for chemical compatibility. The pump material must conform to the chemical medium. Because many chemicals tend to rust, it is important to choose a pump made of non-chemical materials
Pump building materials may be divided into two broad categories:
Metal: Ideal for withstanding abrasives and slurries
316 Stainless steel
Cast iron
Alloy C
Aluminum
Non-Metal:  Solid but lightweight designed for a wide variety of chemical compatibility.
Polypropylene.
Acetal
Conductive Polypropylene
Conductive Acetal
Kynar Nylon
Pumping Size & SpecificationPump performance and size specifications are the most important things to consider when choosing pumps. An analysis of the chemical pump findings suggests that high discharge flow was a condition commonly required by engineers and technology buyers. Inlet size, output size, and average temperature were used by that system.
Improper pump measurement can cause systemic problems. A very large pump can allow the engine to be slightly loaded (less than 50% of full load) if positioned correctly.
Using very large pumps is estimated to cost businesses billions of dollars each year in the process industries. Many contractors are also a factor, each with its own set of requirements. It’s like a children’s “phone” game until the last contractor is involved. When designing a pump, engineers may install extra safety or prepare for future repairs.
Most Used Pumps For Chemical Industries
There are a variety of designs in chemical pumps used in chemical industries.  For pumps that suit the chemical industry, it is necessary to select the right pump.
Centrifugal Pumps
Centrifugal pumps are the most important pumps used in the chemical field. They are inexpensive and easy to design pumps. They use one or more impeller that allows the flow of fluid. Impellers in pumps create the flow of one of three directions which is axial, radial, or mixed.
Axial flow pumps work like a boat propeller and push the liquid in a direction that is parallel to the impeller shaft.
Radial flow pumps have high pressure and low flow.
Mixed flow pumps direct liquid away from the pump shaft at an angle greater than 90 degrees. Pressure is generated by both centrifugal force and the impeller’s lifting action. Mixed flow pumps have properties of both axial and radial flow pumps, with a medium flow and medium pressure.
Rotary Gear Pumps
Rotational pumps are chemically used and are excellent development pumps. Developmental pumps are those pumps used to transfer viscous fluid at a solid rate per system. These pumps work better than intermediate pumps and create resistance to transmitting low-speed fluid.
Gear PumpsGear pumps are used to move the fluid by repeatedly squeezing it into connected cogs or gears and transmitting it mechanically to provide smooth, heart-free flow. It is compatible with the rotating speed of its gears. A gear pump is a type of repeating piston pump that moves liquid.

BEST TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT SERVICE IN IOWA CITY
IOWA CITYTIMING BELT REPLACEMENT
The Basics Behind Timing Belt Replacement Services at Mobile Auto Truck Repair Iowa City
Timing Belt Replacement Service near Iowa City: The timing belt, or timing chain in some vehicles, is a drive belt that synchronizes the rotation of the engine’s crankshaft and camshaft with the opening and closing of your engine’s valves. Depending on the vehicle, it may also rotate the water pump. When the crankshaft turns, the timing belt turns the camshaft, which opens and closes the engine valves to allow the pistons to move up and down. Your vehicle’s engine operates in four phases: intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust. During the intake phase, intake valves open and exhaust valves close as fuel and air enter the cylinders. As the air and fuel is mixed, compressed, and ignited by spark plugs during the compression and combustion phases, the valves close. The remaining air and fuel is pushed out of the exhaust valve during the exhaust phase. The timing belt is responsible for synchronizing this process and for opening and closing valves during normal engine operation.
Why Should You Have Timing Belt Replacement Services Performed at Mobile Auto Truck Repair Iowa City?
Timing Belt Replacement Service near Iowa City: Avoiding a timing belt replacement can result in complete engine failure. A worn or stretched belt can disrupt the operating order of the valves and pistons, which can result in a piston hitting a valve and damaging the engine. Timing belt failure warning signs include rough idling or difficulty starting the engine. Cracks on the belt, which is made of reinforced rubber, are an indication that it may soon break. Replacement of your timing belt will help keep your engine performing as it should and ensure you avoid expensive future repairs. During our replacement service, your belt will be replaced and synchronized with the crankshaft and camshaft to restore proper operating precision and order. It is widely recommended that you have your water pump changed during a timing belt replacement service as well. If your water pump fails later, it can do great damage to your vehicle. Since the water pump is easy to change during a timing belt replacement, consider having a new one installed at this time. Referring to your owner’s manual will help determine the appropriate service intervals for timing belt maintenance.

What is a Timing Belt Replacement?
Your timing belt is a rubber belt located within your engine. It does pretty much exactly what you'd expect: it keeps the operation of your engine properly timed. A timing belt is one of the most important pieces of a working engine, which makes this repair something that cannot be procrastinated. Our mechanics will delve into your engine, remove the old timing belt, and replace it with a new one.
How is a Timing Belt Replacement Done?
The process for replacing your timing belt involves the removal and replacing of a few other parts as well. To begin, the mechanic will remove the engine timing cover to survey the timing belt and pulleys for the required parts. The timing belt, pulleys, water pump, and tensioners will all be removed and replaced. Afterwards, the timing cover will be reinstalled along with any other parts that were removed during the procedure.
 Recommendations
Follow the recommendations of your mechanic. The timing belt is a costly thing to replace, but the failure to replace it and the necessary associated parts can result in severe internal damage to your engine, which will be much more costly. If you wish to save money down the line, your best bet is to get the timing belt and everything associated with it replaced all at once.
Symptoms That Indicate You Need a Timing Belt Replacement?
The one precursor symptom to look for in regards to your timing belt is a squeaking sound that originates from the timing cover area. However, the simplest indicator that the belt needs replacement is that your car will not start. If the timing belt breaks, your car is not going to start, plain and simple.
 Importance
Failure to replace the timing belt as needed can result in costly engine problems later down the road. This is one of the most integral parts of your car's engine, and keeping it in working condition will be a less costly solution than dealing with major engine damage in the future. If you can help it, do not wait for the timing belt to break.
 Can I Do It Myself?
This is one of those tricky internal auto jobs that is really best performed by a trained professional. We recommend letting an experienced mechanic replace your timing belt and the related parts.

 Your Timing Belt Explained
Made of cogged rubber, your timing belt is threaded through pulleys that align the camshafts to the crankshaft. Since the camshafts rotate at half the speed of the crankshaft, the belt synchronizes their positions, ensuring your engine valves open and close at the proper times. Additionally, the timing belt controls other engine components and accessories, including the:
 ●      Water pump
●      Balance shaft
●      Intermediate shaft
●      Injection and oil pump
In order to function correctly, the timing belt must be properly tensioned. Loose belts are often the cause of many engine and timing issues. Therefore, it’s important to know when you need timing belt replacement or adjustment.
Typically, the lifespan of your timing belt is between 60,000 to 105,000 miles depending on the vehicle. However, we recommend that you have your timing belt regularly inspected for any imperfections during routine maintenance checks. Our ASE Certified technicians know the signs of a failing timing belt and can replace it before breaks.
Timing Belt Replacement & Chain Services
Whether your vehicle has a timing belt or chain, it is vital to keep it maintained to prevent slippage or breakage that could harm your engine. If the timing belt or chain running the engine fails, it could have a catastrophic effect on your valve train.
Timing Belt Maintenance and Service Indicators
For many vehicles, the manufacturer provides an ideal mileage limit to observe for timing belt and chain replacements. Even when sticking to a schedule, it's possible your vehicle could end up needing the part replacement early. Watching for common signs of timing component failures can help you protect your engine.
Warning signs for Timing Belt Repair or Timing Chain Replacement
The overall condition of your engine and timing components will greatly influence the signs presented as the timing belt or chain wears out.
Timing Belt
Common signs of a timing belt problem include:
●      Hard starts whether the engine is hot or cold
●      Large amounts of dark gray exhaust exiting the tailpipe
●      Poor idle that causes the entire car to shake
●      Frayed or split belt edges
●      Squeaky tensioner
 Timing Chain
Common signs of a timing chain problem
The inability to see the timing chain directly makes it difficult to visually detect failing parts. Instead, report all:
●      Misfires, which make the engine shake uncontrollably or run unevenly at idle
●      Rattling or scraping sounds coming from the front of the engine
●      Noticeably poor gas mileage
How Technicians Can Help Replace a Timing Belt
Technicians can quickly and easily confirm the diagnosis of faulty timing belts and chains before proceeding with the replacement. The diagnostic process also identifies any other problems contributing to the symptoms you detailed during the consultation.
The total replacement time depends on the type of timing apparatus used by your engine. In general, timing chains take a lot longer to replace than belts due to their placement inside the front of the engine.
Technicians take the time to precisely time your engine to protect the internals and ensure it creates the expected amount of power. If you suspect your engine requires a timing belt or timing chain replacement, talk to a technician about your vehicle's needs.
 COST
How much does a timing belt replacement cost?
Timing Belt Replacement Service near Iowa City: If you look online, the typical rate for a timing belt replacement is around $500 to $900+, which is far better than the $2000 that may be needed if the belt breaks and causes damage to the engine, pistons, valve, water pump and other areas. There are times when a new engine may be the only solution, and depending upon the vehicle and its age, it may even be wiser to invest in a new car!
Naturally, the timing belt cost is also going to vary based on who you hire for the project. For instance, an independent mechanic hired through Air tasker is going to average between $300 and $900 for a timing belt replacement.
And as noted in our Mobile mechanic price guide, the rates that mechanics charge varies based on experience, skill, certifications, and more. They may charge from as little as $18.93 to more than $60 per hour based on the day of the week and the other factors relating to the job.  Cost Guide of Timing belt replacement
Timing Belt Replacement Service near Iowa City: Servicing a vehicle is always going to extend the life of that car or truck, as well as keep the risk of major repairs, and their costs as low as possible. Regular maintenance is a pre-emptive and/or proactive form of ownership. Yet, not everyone takes advantage of the opportunity to keep a vehicle in tip-top condition through ongoing and regular service, and this can lead to major problems or system failures.
The timing belt is one such issue. Surprisingly expensive to have replaced, it is essential to the vehicle, and so it is important to know all about it and how to hire the right mechanic when your car or truck is ready for a new timing belt. This timing belt price guide will answer the key questions and point you towards an ideal solution for your vehicle’s timing belt replacement.
the timing belt is a critical component in the modern-day motor vehicle. It is designed to keep the camshaft and crankshaft timing in check to allow the engine to run at maximum efficiency.
Timing belts wear out over time, and are required to be replaced at certain manufacturer intervals, along with the timing belt tensioner and idler pulleys the belt runs on. Failure to do so can lead to expensive and often irreparable engine damage. The average timing belt replacement cost starts around the $500 mark, and can increase to over $1000, depending on the vehicle and engine type.
 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a timing belt and how does it work?
Timing Belt Replacement Service near Iowa City: An engine timing belt is a fiber reinforced, toothed drive belt manufactured using durable compounds such as highly saturated nitrile. The timing belt allows the crankshaft to drive the camshafts in the cylinder head at half the RPMs of the crankshaft. The camshafts then open and close the engine’s intake and exhaust valves in time with the movement and position of the pistons in the engine.
Timing Belt
What happens if your timing belt breaks?
Let’s preface the answer to that question with a simple statement: You really do not want the belt to break.
Typically, the timing belt is a key part of maintenance. It keeps the upper area of the engine synchronized to the bottom half, and the belt keeps the pistons and valves from crashing into one another inside of the cylinders. If the belt snaps, the piston and valves immediately fall out of sync and are likely to run into one another with the outcome being:
●      Bent valves
●      Cylinder head damage
●      Camshaft damage
●      Cylinder and piston wall damage
What’s involved in timing belt replacement?
Typically, a timing belt replacement involves anywhere between three and eight hours to accomplish and requires the following steps:
●      Stripping the front of the engine of its various housings and connections
●      Assessing the various pulleys and seals along with the water pump
●      Doing the actual timing belt replacement as well as updating any components associated with it
●      Resetting the valve and camshaft timing
●      Reassembly and testing the entire system
The timing belt is often purchased as part of a kit and this could feature a long list of items that include a water pump, seals and more.
Is there anything not included in a timing belt replacement that you should know about?
It is important to note that there are no universal prices or methods for making this repair and that it may be necessary to lower the engine or even remove enormous areas of the front end of a vehicle simply to make this repair. And there are many possible additional costs beyond the belt and the hours required for the repair.
Are there any factors that affect the cost of a timing belt service?
As you can see from our price guides above, the cost of different vehicles can sometimes vary by hundreds. Here are the factors that might increase or decrease the timing belt cost:
 ●      None of the prices above reflects fees for parts and materials.
●      Where you are and the length of time your service provider commutes can affect the cost
●      The average cost of a mobile mechanic is based on the length of time a repair demands, with average “per hour” pricing for labour around $30 to $100+.
●      The urgency of the work is also a factor, i.e. emergency versus scheduled appointment.
●      When the work is done will affect the cost, with weekend and holiday repairs more expensive.
●      Any unexpected issues (such as damage done by a broken timing belt) will also boost the cost.
What is the average life of a timing belt
Though technologies have improved, it is best to have your timing belt checked according to the standard recommendation of 40,000 – 150,000 kilometers. Though manufacturers have pushed that lifespan to the 150,000-kilometre mark, it is better to use the “better safe than sorry” model. If you don’t drive much, every four years is a good schedule for checking and/or replacing this part.
How often do you change a timing belt?
The rule of thumb is as stated above – every 40,000 – 150,000 kilometers OR every four years whichever comes first.

BEST TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT SERVICE IN LINCOLN NE LINCOLN TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT
The Basics Behind Timing Belt Replacement Services at Mobile Auto Truck Repair Lincoln Timing Belt Replacement Service near Lincoln NE: The timing belt, or timing chain in some vehicles, is a drive belt that synchronizes the rotation of the engine’s crankshaft and camshaft with the opening and closing of your engine’s valves.
Why Should You Have Timing Belt Replacement Services Performed at Mobile Auto Truck Repair Lincoln? Timing Belt Replacement Service near Lincoln NE: Avoiding a timing belt replacement can result in complete engine failure.

Don't take the chance of your timing belt breaking and causing severe, costly damage to your engine. Our team of mechanical experts will get the job done for you in a timely and professional manner. Don't let your end up stranded in the middle of nowhere. Call us today!
● Water pump ● Balance shaft ● Intermediate shaft ● Injection and oil pump
Timing Belt Common signs of a timing belt problem include: ● Hard starts whether the engine is hot or cold ● Large amounts of dark gray exhaust exiting the tailpipe ● Poor idle that causes the entire car to shake ● Frayed or split belt edges ● Squeaky tensioner
Timing Chain Common signs of a timing chain problem
The inability to see the timing chain directly makes it difficult to visually detect failing parts. Instead, report all: ● Misfires, which make the engine shake uncontrollably or run unevenly at idle ● Rattling or scraping sounds coming from the front of the engine ● Noticeably poor gas mileage
COST How much does a timing belt replacement cost? Timing Belt Replacement Service near Lincoln NE: If you look online, the typical rate for a timing belt replacement is around $500 to $900+, which is far better than the $2000 that may be needed if the belt breaks and causes damage to the engine, pistons, valve, water pump and other areas.
The average is usually anywhere between $30 and $100+ on Air tasker because the providers have to pay for their own employment costs.

Universal Drive Shaft | Solutions to the Common Failure
The common problem of universal drive shaft is the vibration and noise during driving. If the car is shaking and vibrating after inspection, check whether the universal joint forks at both ends of the drive shaft are installed on the same plane. Check whether the drive shaft has any traces of collision with ground obstacles, whether the shaft tube is bent, whether the balance sheet has fallen off, and if so, it should be corrected, repaired or replaced.
The phenomenon of drive shaft noise: In the condition of good technical condition of universal joints and expansion joints, the drive shaft makes periodic noises during driving. The faster the speed, the louder the noise, the more serious the car body shakes, and the numbness of the hand holding the steering wheel.
Reason analysis:
① The drive shaft is bent or the shaft tube is sunken.
②The drive shaft tube and the universal joint fork are not aligned or the drive shaft is not dynamically balanced.
③The balance plate on the drive shaft is missing.
④The expansion joint is not installed according to the mark, which will cause the transmission shaft to lose its balance and possibly cause the forks at both ends of the transmission shaft to not be on the same plane.
⑤The fixing bolts of the middle support hanger or the connecting bolts of the universal joint flange plate are loose, which makes the position of the transmission shaft deviated.
⑥The tightening method of the rubber clamping type intermediate support is improper, causing the front end of the intermediate transmission shaft to deviate from the original axis.
The phenomenon of universal joints and expansion joints: when the car starts or when the speed changes suddenly, the transmission device makes a noise. When the car slows down, the transmission device makes a "quack, quack" noise.
Reason analysis:
①The universal joint bearing is loose due to wear or impact.
②The expansion joint spline of the drive shaft is loose due to wear or impact.
③The connecting bolts of the universal joint flange plate are loose.
