It’s been a miserable week in terms of the weather, it’s the kind of weather than makes you want to curl up on the sofa with a nice cuppa. However, on Tuesday evening I got wrapped up and braved the rain to head to my first Mama Tribe MeetUp and I am certainly glad I did.  The event was hosted by the lovely Gemma from It Started with a Stitch. The ethos of Mama Tribe is a community supporting women through motherhood and in business. It’s a place for people who understand each other, share similar experiences and support each other.
The event was held at Folk Wine Kitchen on Cambridge Street in Cleethoropes where I was greeted with a lovely mocktail on arrival and their famous antipasti board which was just as tasty as it looked.
The event was small and intimate, with some fantastic local business women.
We had a talk from blogger and marketing expert Becky Barnes who told us her story and also spoke about all things Social Media. It really sparked some fantastic conversation and I definitely learnt a lot. Thanks Becky!
The whole evening was super relaxed and I met some fantastic women who all run / work for amazing businesses. It was lovely to chat to ladies who are passionate about their own businessses but also about growing, supporting and promoting other local, small businesses.
The next Mama Tribe MeetUp is being planned as we speak. Keep an eye out on It Started with a Stich social media, or on my social media (Instagram and Facebook) for details. It’d be fab to meet more local business owners!

Hello fellow entrepreneurs! First let me begin by introducting myself; I am a 19 year old university student that decided to start his own clothing brand around April of 2018. I am currently studying to be an engineer which as we all know has nothing to do with entreprenuership! What is this brand? Its a clothing line in which I draw designs and print them on t-shirts, hoodies, bags, pins, stickers, etc. Also please keep in mind that we sell purely online and I do not own a physical store. Why this particular industry?Well I always enjoyed drawing as a hobby, and I also noticed how some of the big companies such as H&M, Pull&Bear, Bershka etc. where doing a terrible job with their clothings; do not get me wrong some items are good but as an 18 year-old who wants to standout and wear clothing that isn't something very stupid on it! I decided to take action.First when it all started, I was only selling through the brand's Instagram account. The traffic was extremly low, I wouldn't advertise, I would always not know what to post/rarely posting/lots and lots of rookie mistakes. You could say that in the first month I have sold around 4 - 5 T-shirts and the second month I have sold 0 T-shirts.Also at this moment; the suppliers that we bought from would take 5 - 7 buiness days for us to recieve the item and then have to ship it again to the customer. Being the university student that I am I couldn't afford buying Bulks of goods so I went with the "print on demand" option.2 months in, I decided something needed to change; at thism oment I had a couple of designs that I could showcase to people and customers, so I decided to visit local tattoo shops and ask to sell at their own shop (on my own expense) and would you believe it? 1 in 20 places said yes! This place was extremely friendly and we become friends in the long run. I have also decided to advertise on Facebook and Instagram which has brough in a bit more traffic. The # of clothing items I will be selling would varey, but on average 5 pieces a month. Also at this moment I was just selling T-Shirts.I was happy with this until a few more months have passed and I have decided to take more action; and that is when I decided to do the following:I decided to invest in a proper website where people can come, browse and buy items that where available at the time. This has always been positive as it gave my customers a neat place to browse freely and find everything in one place rather than have to go back and forth in my Instagram accountMy team has increased by size! A friend of mine decided to help me with sending emails to shops, local celebrities and local artists to collaberate together.Collaborating with local artists! I used their followers and people that supported them to sell more of my brand! I got more customers and they got to have their own clothing of some sort. This has increased traffic, we started to spread out more in the city, many other artists have heard of us etc. We have collabed with different Artists (and some of them more than one time)Photoshoots! We decided the brand needed to be showcased in a more professional way where we can show off the quality of our clothes and prints on them. I would ask friends and people around the campus for help in modeling and they would always accept sometimes without even offering anything in return, photographers that are in our school's 'photography society' would also join. This was great because these people would share us on their social media accounts and we have proper photos to display and show our products!I also started taking photos of the products on a "green screen" which is basically a sheet of green paper that is big enough (costed me 1$) and would just photoshop it out and add the a background I want to the photo. This small effort and cost made the brand way more professional and better looking for our customers!Changed my suppliers! My current suppliers are way more flexible than the ones before, they cost me way less, and it takes about 1-2 business days to complete the item. Which is check in all of my booksIncreased the variety of my products; this has helped attract way more customers and tastes!P.S: these didn't happen in the span of a small duration but in the span of a couple of months.A year and half in I have sold around 300~ items, with 4 months that I have sold nothing in; either due to the fact that we couldn't sell or the fact that I was busy with exams and couldn't be active or a combo of both. When I first started this I didn't expect to continue this as a more serious brand and enjoy doing so the deeper I am in this business. I never for a fact thought I would sell around 300 pieces, or get a huge amount of support from my friends and family but they see something in it and thats enough for me.Last that I want to say is that the result of the list above has increased my sales to; atleast 10 pieces a month, some months we would sell 30 to 40 pieces some months we would sell 10. Still more than the 5 and 0s that I was selling. This was a long post, but thank you for reading this and would gladly answer any questions that you have in mind or anything you are curious about.
