Chasmvere fun fact:
The only reason why Dream still interacts, with Nightmare after that has happened is simply because of Ink's sake
They know that Ink wishes for his boys to be brothers again, and so Dream plays nice with Nightmare
#Also Nightmare knows this#Just a fyi#Ink doesn't TELL Dream that he wishes that Dream and Nightmare are bothers again#It's more so of a vibe#ya'know?#ChasmVerse#Dream sans#Ink sans#UTMV

I was thinking about Inkmare and decided to yap a bit...!!
The whole thing had started just as a way for Nightmare to get into Ink's life, disrupt it, weaken him, and make him be dependent on him. He could tell Ink cared about his job- (the way the Stars fought to save the people, Dream leading with Blue and Ink not long behind) and that he cared about his perceived uselessness. It'd be so easy to just make him feel like his usefulness didn't come from his work solo but rather from how he worked alongside his team. And of course, wouldn't Ink be so grateful? (After all, he just wasn't... as successful when fending against Error the way he once was. What a pity.) Grateful enough to trust him, at least. And as useful as the benefits of having his trust were, he'd also felt the way his brother would react to his friend's betrayal would be very... interesting.
Trust doesn't come from nowhere. For Nightmare to truly tie Ink to him, he'd need to make some effort himself. Make him smile, be a shoulder to cry to. Be a protector, and fake some vulnerability. He knew this dance well. Mortals were simple to please, and much more predictable. While the time spent on making the relationship would have been much more enjoyed had he just spent it reading, it's not like it'd be the worst thing he had to bear.
But from there... He finds that... actually spending time with Ink... Isn't that annoying? Like, he sure is a chatterbox, and may be a little too into jesting, but he's interesting to hear. Nightmare may actually wonder if anyone's ever bothered to hear him, cuz once Ink noticed Nightmare wouldn't snap at him for talking more than what's adequate, it's like he'd never stop.
Sometimes, Nightmare talked back. A question, making Ink follow a topic when he forgot what he was talking about. Some words of his, to keep the conversation going. A rhythm of their own. Surprisingly... fun.
The day Nightmare noticed he spent more time thinking about Ink's smile than not was definitely NOT fun.
He didn't make their relationship to last. Part of his original plan always included making Dream discover it by himself, and to let Ink break without anyone to support them so he and his team would pick up the pieces and rebuild him to follow.
But the idea... He had never seen Ink cry. Not ever, even when in pain. Something inside him felt itself colder with the idea of subduing him into misery. Definitely a first for him.
Nightmare was so miserable. Of course, life has wronged him once again. But he was always the one that defied fate. He wouldn't let his wishes and desires get crushed against an... Unfavorable element. Even one he created himself.
No. Of course not.
Ink's happiness (and Ink himself, if he was... honest... No, he's not flustered with the idea. Anyways.) was just another goal. One just within his reach. What's a simple courtship against multiversal conquering? What's hiding actions, words and longing stares against crushing everyone's hopes and dreams?
He'd hide this until it wouldn't be a threat to him anymore. And once it stops doing so, he'll make sure to make Ink his... king consort... CONCENTRATE. Yes. Wicked stuff. Evil stuff. He definitely can do this.
