One of Swedens most famous authors is children's book author Astrid Lindgren (1907-2002). Her perhaps most famous character of all is Pippi Långstrump, Pippi Longstocking in English. The books about Pippi is one of the most translated books in the world, available in around 100 languages.

The books were released during the 40's, and in 1969 a TV-series adaption came out. In the 70's, two movies were released, with the same actors and director. The theme song Här kommer Pippi Långstrump (Here comes Pippi Longstocking) was composed by the incredibly well renowned jazz musician Jan Johansson and recorded sung by the actress playing Pippi, Inger Nilsson. Johansson died tragically in a car accident in 1968, before the series were released. Most subsequent Astrid Lindgren songs were written by Georg Riedel.

The song is sung from Pippi's perspective, describing herself and urging her friends to have a great time with her. The lyrics are also peppered with the nonsensical "tjolahopp tjolahej tjolahoppsansa". Karin Inger Monica Nilsson (born 4 May 1959) is a Swedish actress and singer. She is a former child actress. She is primarily known for her portrayal of Pippi Longstocking in the Swedish-produced TV series of the same name during 1969 which was compiled, re-dubbed into German and later also in English and many other languages, and released as two feature films in 1969. In 1970, she reprised her role of Pippi in two feature films. In 2005, she was working as a secretary in Stockholm, occasionally taking small stage roles. Via W

Pippi Longstocking (Re-edited from the Swedish/West German TV series and released in the USA in 1973) A mysterious young girl, Pippi Longstocking, moves into the abandoned Villa Villekulla. The redheaded Pippi, living alone but for a monkey called Mr. Nilsson and her horse Little Old Man, befriends two neighboring children, Tommy and Annika.

Having decided to stay on in the Villa Villekulla and not follow her father to sea, Pippi continues to run riot in her quest for fun. After being nagged by their parents for staying out late with their best friend Pippi Longstocking, Annika and Tommy decide to run away. Life can never be ordinary when you're with Pippi Longstocking, the world's strongest girl!

Two sisters, Celeste and Isa, fall under the terrifying spell of a mysterious vinyl record from the 1970s. Used to help with stress and bring the listener to a state of calming self-hypnosis, the recording has the unfortunate side-effect of manifesting a doppelganger of the listener into our world. This “double” then grows stronger by the day to copy and take over the life of the person who played the vinyl.

Seeking the help of the woman who originally created the recording, hypnotist Lena Carlsson (Christina Lindberg), Celeste and Isa try to banish the doppelgangers back to their own world before their lives are lost forever.

Happy birthday, Astrid Lindgren (Nov.14, 115)!

Born as Astrid Anna Emilia Eriksson on November 14, 1907.

Apart from a wonderful & ground-breaking Children's writer, she spoke English (look for an interview on YouTube) and German, learnt to type very fast (all own books were typed by herself), an editor, wonderful artist (she drew Pippi 25+ years before almost portrait copy Inger Nilsson played her in 1969), and one of the biggest pacifists. All hail Astrid Lindgren! <3
