Safeguarding the Seas: The Indian Coast Guard
Introduction
The Indian Coast Guard, often referred to as the "Sentinels of the Sea," stands as a pivotal maritime security force, entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding India's vast coastline and exclusive economic zone. Established on February 1, 1977, the Indian Coast Guard has evolved into a dynamic and technologically advanced organization, playing a crucial role in ensuring the security and safety of India's maritime interests. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the Indian Coast Guard, its history, functions, capabilities, and the invaluable service it renders to the nation.
Tumblr media
Historical Background
The inception of the Indian Coast Guard can be traced back to two significant maritime incidents: the 1965 Indo-Pak war and the 1971 Indo-Pak war. These conflicts underscored the need for a specialized maritime force dedicated to safeguarding India's maritime interests. In response to these challenges, the Indian Coast Guard was officially established in 1977 under the Coast Guard Act, 1978.
Roles and Functions
Maritime Security: The primary mission of the Indian Coast Guard is to ensure the security and sovereignty of India's territorial waters and exclusive economic zone. It conducts patrols, surveillance, and enforcement operations to deter and prevent illegal activities such as smuggling, piracy, and unauthorized entry.
Search and Rescue (SAR): The Indian Coast Guard is a critical player in search and rescue operations, saving lives at sea during distress situations caused by natural disasters, accidents, or other emergencies. Its swift response and state-of-the-art equipment have been instrumental in numerous rescue missions.
Environmental Protection: The Indian Coast Guard takes an active role in safeguarding the marine environment. It responds to oil spills, conducts pollution control measures, and enforces laws related to marine pollution and protection of marine resources.
Maritime Law Enforcement: The Coast Guard enforces various maritime laws and regulations, including fisheries laws, customs laws, and port security measures. It ensures compliance with these laws to maintain order and security in Indian waters.
Capabilities and Infrastructure
The Indian Coast Guard has undergone significant modernization and expansion to enhance its capabilities:
Fleet: The Coast Guard boasts a diverse fleet of ships and aircraft, including offshore patrol vessels, fast patrol vessels, helicopters, and maritime surveillance aircraft. These assets are equipped with advanced technology to fulfill various roles effectively.
Training: The Indian Coast Guard places a strong emphasis on training and skill development. It operates its training establishments, including the Coast Guard Academy in Kerala and several regional training centers.
Coastal Stations: Coastal radar stations, surveillance equipment, and communication networks have been established to improve situational awareness and response capabilities along the coastline.
Significance of the Indian Coast Guard
National Security: The Indian Coast Guard plays a pivotal role in maintaining the nation's security by preventing illicit activities and unauthorized entries into Indian waters.
Maritime Commerce: It facilitates safe and secure maritime trade by ensuring the free flow of commerce through Indian ports and waters.
Environmental Stewardship: The Coast Guard's efforts in environmental protection help preserve India's marine ecosystems and resources.
Humanitarian Assistance: The Coast Guard's search and rescue operations have saved countless lives, earning it the gratitude and trust of the Indian populace.
Conclusion
The Indian Coast Guard stands as a formidable maritime force dedicated to preserving India's maritime interests and ensuring the safety and security of its coastline. With its unwavering commitment, state-of-the-art capabilities, and dedication to the service of the nation, the Indian Coast Guard continues to be a beacon of maritime security and a vital component of India's defense and disaster response infrastructure. As it continues to evolve and expand its capabilities, it reinforces India's position as a responsible maritime nation in the global community.

The legend behind the legendary Damascus sword!
The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the research and analysis wing of the Economist Group, publishes an annual Global Liveability Ranking report, which ranks 140 cities globally for their quality of life, based on assessments of stability, healthcare, education and infrastructure. In 2018 and 2019, Vienna, the Austrian capital was ranked Number 1 on that list. From 2011 to 2017, it was Melbourne and before that, from 2001 till 2010, Vancouver in Canada was ranked as the most liveable city in the world.
For the past two years, Damascus, the capital of Syria, came last on the list. Not surprising when you consider that Syria is torne by civil war for most of the past decade.
Tumblr media
And yet, Damascus has a 10,000 year old history. Like Varanasi, it is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Parts of the city are so old that they are falling apart and so have been declared as UNESCO World heritage sites in 1979.
But over centuries, Damascus has been one of the most prominent cities and a pivotal trading center in West Asia. Apart from other things, it was renowned, throughout West Asia and Europe, for its bustling trade of weaponry, especially the legendary Damascus sword!
Tumblr media
The Damascus swords were the most coveted brand of swords in Europe and West Asia in the medieval times. They were renowned for their strength, sharpness and toughness.
When the European crusaders invaded West Asia in the 12th-13th centuries, they were met with soldiers wielding an astonishing sword, that could cut a feather in mid-air, cut though an armour with the same ease, and retain its performance battle after battle after battle. They named this amazing sword after the place where they found it. That's how the name Damascus sword stuck.
Tumblr media
The secret of the Damascus swords was, of course, its steel. Damascus steel, as the Europeans called it, looked ominous, yet elegant in its grey-black hue. It was characterised by a distinct visual pattern or design described as being similar to sand moving across the desert or even waves moving over the surface of the ocean. This distinct pattern is often called ‘watering’ due to the pattern’s resemblance to moving water.
Tumblr media
Interestingly, while the entire world called it Damascus steel, the locals called it Seric steel or Teling steel or Wootz steel. Why? Therein lies a tale.
The word Seric is an adjective form of the word Seres, a Persian corruption of the word Chera, indicating that the steel ingots were procured from the 3rd century BCE Chera dynasty of South India.
Tumblr media
The word Teling means that the steel ingots were imported from Telangana region of South India, specifically Golconda, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad and Warangal districts.
The word Wootz refers to a generic type of steel produced in Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu in South India and Sri Lanka. Wootz appears to be a mis-translated corruption of the South Indian word Ukku, meaning steel. In some material that I read, Wootz has been mentioned as a corruption of the Sanskrit word Uchcha, meaning 'of superior quality'. That made more sense to me, but the prevalent view seems to be that Wootz has been derived from Ukku.
In any case, it so happens that India had an evolved steel manufacturing industry, beginning from the 3rd century BCE till the 19th century CE, and an established trading route from the Coromandel coast in East India to West Asia, facilitated by the Arabs. Every year, 10000 ingots of Wootz steel were exported to Persia and from there to the rest of world.
In other words, Wootz steel of very high quality was smelted in India, the Arabs took them to Damascus, where a weaponry manufacturing and trading industry had developed. While the Europeans were going gaga about this excellent steel from West Asia, West Asians were importing Indian steel.
The 12th century Arab geographer, Idrisi, wrote - nothing can surpass the edge of the Hindwani steel. The Indian steel sword was so popular that when the Arabs chopped off someone’s head with a sword, they would call it Jawabe Hind, meaning the answer from an Indian blade. Pretty dramatic stuff, eh?
Captain J. Campbell, an Englishman, made a sketch, in 1872, eulogizing the steel making prowess of India.
Tumblr media
So, what is so special about Wootz steel?
Regular steel has 0.8% carbon content. Wootz steel has much higher - about 1.2 to 2%. That explains its elegant grey-black colour. It is also the reason why the steel is unbelievably resistant to damage and can be sharpened to a razor-wire edge.
Tumblr media
It was made in small batches, in small crucibles. The smelting process was specialized and was guarded as a trade secret in the close community of metalsmiths in South India for generations. Outside of South India, Wootz steel was also made in centers like Lahore, Amritsar, Agra, Jaipur and Gwalior.
However, the technology died in the 19th century. Following the Revolt of 1857, many foundries and armouries were destroyed by the British. The coming of guns and gunpowder also changed the nature of warfare and reduced the demand for swords.
Tumblr media
In 1774, a Swedish chemist named Tobern Bergman became the first European to realise that Steel is an alloy of Iron. Till then, Europe thought Iron and Steel were two elements of the ferrous family.
However, industrial scale production of good quality steel started in Europe only in 1821. But once Europe started producing steel, seeing the demand being generated by the Industrial Revolution, the British wanted to control its production and trade. Hence, they crushed the ecosystem of making and trading Wootz Steel.
Below is the authentic Wootz-steel-made Sword of Tipu Sultan, preserved in the National Museum, New Delhi.
Tumblr media
What fascinated me most was that on the advent of the Industrial revolution, there was a frenzy in Europe to understand Wootz steel, its characteristics and methods to replicate its production. In many ways, this led to the development of studies in modern metallurgy and material science.
Michael Faraday, the inventor of electricity was also fascinated by Wootz steel and enthusiastically studied it. Though Faraday failed to replicate the Wootz steel, he discovered many other alloys and is hailed as the father of alloy steels.
One study researching the forging process of Wootz steel discovered that this steel contained something called carbon nanotubes, which led to studies on nanotechnology. The report said that Indian metalworkers were using nanotechnology at least 2,000 years before the West.
Tumblr media
This picture belongs to Cyril Stanley Smith, a 20th century British metallurgist, science historian and a member of the famous Manhattan project in US. He supposedly said - The Wootz steel is one of the greatest metallurgical accomplishments of antiquity.
Amen to that!

Can you write about the forgotten general of the revolutionary war, David Wooster, because he was actually my ancestor
Tumblr media
David Wooster was an American general who served in the French and Indian War and in the American Revolutionary War [x]. Following his death during the revolution he has had multiple places named after him including schools, city and trails [x]. He has been coined as a “forgotten hero” of the American Revolution due to his immense efforts.
Born in Statford, Connecticut on March 2nd of 1711 [x], David Wooster came from somewhat distinguished parenthood as his father was a mason [x]. There is unfortunately little known about his early life due to the British burning New Haven in 1779 where his family papers were kept [x]. He was drilled in Puritan principles which has allowed some to speculate the “severe and somber[ness]” of his primary years [x].
Wooster entered Yale College in 1735 (which was quite old for the time) and graduated in 1738. The following year after his graduation when war broke out between the British and Spanish, he joined the colonial militia as a lieutenant (later appointed captain) [x] on the ship Defense [x], however, he saw no action. Primarily, he worked as a coast guard or a “guard-a-coast” [x] from 1740-1743. He was described as “young”, “handsome” and “ambitious” according to some [x]. In 1745 Wooster was in the Connecticut regiment on the Louisburg expedition and on July 4th he sailed for France with French prisoners for exchange [x]. After France, he was sent to England where he was given audience with King George, became a favorite within the society for his good humor and landed a position as captain in the regiment of William Pepperrell in the British Army. He retired in 1748 when the fortress he labored at was returned to the French at the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle [x].
Regarding his more intimate, personal life, on March 6th, 1745, Wooster married Marie Clapp, the daughter of Yale's president, Thomas Clapp [x]. They went on to have four children but only one girl and boy lived to adulthood as the other two died in infancy. Their surviving son Thomas served in the American Revolutionary War [x]. Mary was intelligent and had incredible strength of mind according to those who described her [x]. Wooster settled briefly into domestic life and became a merchant in New Haven where modern day the street he resided bares his name. In 1750, he aided in the establishment of one of the first lodges of Free Masons in Connecticut [x]. Shortly after his marriage, he was captain of a company in the provincial regiment of Andrew Burr and saw service in the Siege of Louisbourg. What occurred afterwards is spoken of previously.
When the French and Indian War broke out, he served from 1755 to the war’s conclusion in 1761 [x]. During the war, he was promoted to colonel and given command of the 3rd Connecticut regiment [x] while being described as having “zeal” and being “unselfish in nature” [x]. He took part in the attack on Ticonderoga in 1758 and in later operations against the fort to recapture it with his men [x] while also being present in the failed Battle of Carillon in 1759. he had a reputation for going against those who attempted to use their higher ranking as a method of abuse. In one instance, a  British soldier attempted to discipline one of Wooster’s men. Wooster went as far as to draw his sword to chastise the adviser on the spot in front of many eyes and disarmed him. He pressed his own sword to his adversary’s chest, he told him that he needed to apologize and never commit his actions again. There was cheering and Wooster won the additional reputation of being a protector and friend to his men [x]. After the war, he returned to his family life.
When the American Revolution broke out with the Battles of Lexington and Concord, Wooster was in charge of the militia at New Haven [x]. In April 1775 the General Assembly appointed Wooster (who was sixty-four at the time) a major general of six regiments to be raised for "the safety and defense of the colony” [x]. In New York City during the summer of 1775 he commanded Connecticut troops on Long Island and at Harlem [x]. On June 22nd of 1775, Wooster was named as the fourth brigadier general of the Continental army [x]. What disappointed him was the continuous appointment of younger men with less military experience (including Israel Putnam) [x]. He was ordered to report to Major General Philip Schuyler in the Northern Department and left New York City on September 28th [x] but his relationship with Schuyler was poor as they constantly disagreed [x]. After taking part in the invasion of Canada, he took part in another siege and remained commandant in Montreal [x]. He was charged with incompetence during his time in Montreal but a court martial eventually cleared him. On January 1st of 1776, Wooster assumed command of all of Canada. The quarreling, however, did not stop there. on April 2nd, in Quebec he fought with Benedict Arnold which only proved his “incapacity for high command” [x]. He was described by Justin H. Smith as "dull and uninspired, garrulous about his thirty years of service … tactless, hearty rather than firm with his undisciplined troops who adored him, at times brutal towards the civilian population of Montreal" [x].
Congress, informed on the subject of his incompetence, recalled him from Canada. Another inquiry also exonerated him of misconduct and he was a brigadier general without employment [x]. Finally given a position after a lengthy duration, he was reappointed major general of a provincial Connecticut militia on October 23rd, 1776. He commanded only small forces in New York before managing part of Fort Independence in May 2nd 1777 [x]. Unfortunately, following a long and arduous military career, on May 27th while opposing the Danbury raid, he was mortally wounded [x]. Wooster's finals words were, "I am dying, but with a strong hope and persuasion that my country will gain her independence” and he died at the age of sixty-seven [x]. While Congress initially intended to erect a monument, they never did and the Masons did themselves in Danbury in 1854 [x]. His bones lay without even a grave mark to declare the spot of his body until 1854 when the Wooster Monument was dedicated [x].

Pakistan: The Australian Consul-General's wife's tale
If you visit the Israeli town of Ramleh, you will find a synagogue built by Pakistani Jews. It is named Magen Shalom, after the synagogue in Karachi which no  longer exists. The Jews of Pakistan once numbered about 3,000, but the violent repercussions to the Arab-Israeli conflict have driven the community  away. (In addition, as the case of Asia Bibi has shown, Pakistan is hardly today a beacon of religious freedom.)  The following story is based on real events and centres around the Jews of Karachi, who were desperate to  cross the closed border with India in the 1970s. Wayne Croning has recreated the story in his own words...names are made up.
Hannah made the driver cover the number plates of the Mercedes, even made him remove the flag from the bonnet.  She got in front and gave him the address. Jamila Street, in the Ranchore. Her husband David was posted to Karachi a few months previously,  as the Australian Consul-General. Hanna and their children arrived a few weeks later. They had been to several countries, including some in South America. The city reminded her of Bombay, where she and her family once lived. Crowded, bustling, hot and humid. But she loved it. She loved the food, the people and the culture. The first thing she did on arriving at any new country was to look up the Jewish population; being Jewish herself. After a short search with help through a high ranking local official, she found to her amazement, that there was indeed a small but thriving Jewish community with a decent-sized synagogue in the commercial hub of the city. As they drove from Clifton to Saddar, they eventually got onto Bunder Road (M.A.Jinnah Road), and took a turn off this busy street. The street they were on now was narrow, but crowded with people, cars, rickshaws, motorcycles. The synagogue was not hard to find. A large stone and brick building soon appeared on their right. Above the steel gate, and on the building itself was a sign: 'Magain Shalome Synagogue’.
Tumblr media
An early picture of the Magain Shalome synagogue, Karachi (Photo: Haroun Haidar blog) They pulled up to the side of the street and parked. Hannah got out, walked to the gate and was stopped by the chowkidar or watchman. “Who is it you wish to see?” he asked, in Urdu. Hannah had picked up a bit of Hindi after spending a few years in Bombay.“Rabbi sahib say milna chatha hoo.” (I would like to meet the Rabbi). He replied that this was Saturday and to come back in one hour. She waited in the car, and soon observed a number of people entering the premises. Men, women and children, families, all dressed for Shabbat, in their finest. They all appeared to be East Indian, but some of their features were a little different. The gates were fully open now and she decided to walk in. The main door of the synagogue was made up of solid oak. She entered and was greeted by a high-ceilinged, cathedral-like room.and spacious, wooden benches flanked each side of a narrow aisle. Women on the left, men on the rght. Men wore kippot, women wore shawls around their head. An elderly, bearded man stood to the side of the entrance on the inside, greeting everyone. He looked surprised when he saw Hannah. Smiling, he introduced himself.“Hello and Shalom. I am Rabbi Simone Isaac. And you are...?" Hannah smiled back. “I am Hannah. She had covered her head with a silk scarf. After guiding her to a seat, the Rabbi went to the back of the building. Large chandeliers hung down, brightening up the space. The Ark stood on a raised wooden pedestal in the middle of the wooden prayer platform. Torah scrolls were stored here. The Rabbi climbed the two stairs, removed one of the large scrolls, holding it high above his head with both hands.  He walked around the prayer platform, reciting prayers in Hebrew. After the service ended, Hannah managed to meet the Rabbi again. She learned a lot after their hour -long conversation. Most of the Jews here were from the Bene Israel community, that originated on the South West coast of India, just South of Bombay. Some were Baghdadi Jews and a few had Afghani connections. Most of them spoke Marathi, Urdu and of course English. Many had left in 1948, one year after the Partition of India and the birth of a new nation: Israel. By the mid 1960’s the population had further dwindled. Most left for the UK, Israel and even India. This was now 1972, India and Pakistan had just gotten over a major war. The border was closed between the two countries. Hannah was seen regularly at the synagogue; attending Shabbat prayers, weddings and social events. She had even attended two funerals, where the dead were laid to rest at the Jewish cemetery not too far from the  synagogue. She got to know most of the families, made close friends with some of the women, hosting many parties and get-togethers at her home. Her own children also attended prayers at the synagogue every Saturday.  She would supply the community with Kosher wine, grape juice, etc., even medical supplies. As she grew closer to the community, and came to know several of them wanted to make ‘Aliyah’ to Israel, especially the younger generation, she devised a plan: Travel to Israel for Pakistanis was not allowed (passports were stamped as such). But many had immigrated to Israel via Iran and India. The bizarre idea came into her head one day.  She would drive with two or three Jews to Lahore and then drive across the border at Wagh, hiding them in the trunk of the same consular car. “Are you insane?” her husband asked as she prepared for the trip. “What if you are caught? What if they are caught? Even if you do, what will happen to them in India? They could be arrested there!” Hannah smiled but said with confidence .“They will not stop a foreign consular car. I have made arrangements with the British Embassy in Delhi. They will be given British passports. The ones who want to immigrate to Israel can do so as well. There is a representative from Tel Aviv who will be in Bombay at the end of the year. They are inviting Indian Jews to immigrate to Israel. When the day arrived, Hannah and two young women and one man, got into the Mercedes and bid tearful goodbyes to relatives. The long drive to Lahore took about two days, with stops along the way. Hannah also took the family pet dog along for the trip. The morning before crossing the border, she hid the two young women in the trunk of the car. The rear middle armrest was removed and a plastic pipe fitted to allow cool air from the air conditioner to reach them in the trunk. The young man was given a consular uniform with a badge and would act as the chauffeur. They drove to the border. It was heavily guarded with signs posted along the fence. Guard dogs began barking at the car. The guards took a walk around and noticed Hannah’s dog in the back seat.  in Delhi.” she told them, holding out her passport.“This is my chauffeur and these are his papers”, she added, handing them his passport. After informing her that she would be allowed to cross, they refused to let the chauffeur through. She looked up at the guard, half annoyed. “I cannot drive! Do you want me to walk to Delhi?? ”He appeared confused for a second. After consulting with a senior official, he came back.“You can both go through, but at your own risk. We cannot be responsible for your safety, or the safety of the driver.” With that he handed back the papers, opened the gate and let them through. On the other side, she encountered similar problems. “I can’t walk to Delhi!” and an annoyed look finally got her through. “I have to make this trip two or three times a year. Make a note of my name and my number plate,”she said, as they slowly drove away from the border. The two young women made it to the UK. The chauffeur had to return with her to Karachi, so as not to raise suspicion. She made several such trips back and forth. Things became more relaxed at the border crossing. The chauffeur made it out to Israel after the third border crossing. Hardly any Jews remain in Karachi. Many of them married into other communities, changed their religion or just left for good. Many years later, a journalist interviewed the Karachi Jewish community who had settled in Israel in a place called Ramleh. They had set up a new synagogue and named it Magen Shalom after the one in Karachi. When one elderly man was interviewed he had tears in his eyes.“I miss Karachi. I was born there, I miss the place dearly. What really hurts is that I can never go back for a visit. Never!” Diplomat's wife smuggled Jews out of Pakistan Pakistani Jews go to court over synagogue

But it remained unclear what shifts in immigration enforcement Mexico could propose that would satisfy Trump. How a 16-foot yacht points to nation’s vulnerability to a terror attack
The entire rank and file of the Mumbai police, Maharashtra police, central agencies, Indian navy, and the Coast Guard went into a tizzy last week when an unmanned yacht reached the shores of Harihareshwar in Raigad district of Maharashtra. Local fishermen saw the boat and immediately informed the police. A day later, the Mumbai Traffic Police’s WhatsApp helpline number received messages warning…

2022 PRESEASON FUNERAL SERVICES
Dearly Beloved...we gather today to pay our last respects to five departed teams
Port Orange Stallions - Sea Ponies (0-10)
2021 Ranks:  T:#17   O:#16  (9.5ppg)  D:#17 (30.3ppg)
All-Time:  5 Seasons (12-31-3: 0-1)  0 Cs  0 Ccs  0 Ds
First the sea ponies who preceded this death with a perfect season...perfect in futility...the only team last year to finish winless…  Their Glory Days were their 6-4 record of 2018.
Tri-County Steelers - Rusty Curtain (2-8)
2021 Ranks:  T:#16   O:#14  (13.8ppg)  D:#16 (26.2ppg)
All-Time:  1 Season (2-8-0: 0-0)  0 Cs  0 Ccs  0 Ds
Next...we come to the Rusty ones who much like the Titanic...had their debut season that was also their last…  The only team they were able to beat (twice) were the Ponies lying in the grave next to them...without them...the will to go on had left them…  As all things rusted return to the dust it came from...
South Florida Chargers - Criminally Charged/Sparkies (4-6, 0-1)
2021 Ranks:  T:#11   O:#6  (21.2ppg)  D:#15 (28.7ppg)
All-Time: 5 Seasons (10-36-0: 0-2)  0 Cs  0 Ccs  0 Ds
We now come to our next team in whisper as many may protest their inclusion in these holy grounds…  Few deaths are uglier than an owner who’s exposed themselves to jail time... She was not a very good owner...and apparently not a smooth criminal either… A team that best year was a .500 record and produced two seasons of not placing a single W in the Win column.  But stealing from your entombers is never a good thing…  That is the reason they get a wooden marker instead of a granite head stone…with the simple text...”Buh-Bye Aletha”
Miami Chiefs – Chefs, Lil’ Indians (6-4, 1-1)
2021 Ranks:  T:#5   O:#7 (21.3ppg)  D:#3 (12.3ppg)
All-Time:  4 seasons (18-17-1: 1-1)  0 Cs  0 Ccs  0 Ds
Not an unfamiliar sight here as they are once again entombed into the ashes of our graveyard…  Brash and loud they reentered the arena with an “undefeated” 2020 season...a bravado followed them into a quick start…  But once again...all sound and fury...signifying nothing...6 wins is all they have ever been able to produce in a season...the sheen wore off and they walked off the field before the clock struck 0:00…  After again being only able to make a minor impact in the league...they smashed their feather headgear and ingloriously left the field of battle but also their existence in the here and now…  Once again to enter the grave...
West Coast Soldiers - A.R.M.Y. (8-2, 2-1)
2021 Ranks:  T:#4   O:#2  (26.4ppg)  D:#4 (10.4ppg)
All-Time:  2 seasons (14-2-0: 2-1)  0 Cs  0 Ccs 0 Ds
We come to our next internment...another brash and loud new blood...who claimed to have displaced the ol’ guard…  Another 6-0 team from 2020…  Who found themselves unable to beat one team...no matter how hard they tried…  They tried once...twice...three times to overcome their nemesis…  They vowed to return and avenge these losses...but their will died in the off-season...
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST…
Miami Magic City Bulls - Aud-i-Bulls,, Quot-a-Bulls, Horned-ones (9-1, 1-1)
Aud-i-Bulls,, Quot-a-Bulls, Horned-ones
2021 Ranks:  T:#2   O:#8  (22.2ppg)  D:#1 (7.3ppg)
All-Time:  18yr (152-23-1: 38-10)  7 Cs  12 CCs  15 Ds
Finally we come to the Aud-i-Bulls...who after 18yrs…  WAIT A MINUTE – SORRY – THIS SERVICE IS BEING CANCELLED

War thunder - japanese starter pack download free.
Desert Kingdoms
All factions in the Desert Kingdoms cultural group benefit from the following traits: +2 Sanitation in all regions +15 Melee attack in desert battles Immunity to desert attrition
New Religion Features
Because of the dramatic impact religious changes had on these cultures in this period, the Empires of Sand Culture Pack includes a number of changes that increase the importance of religion. There are three new religions available: Eastern Christianity, Judaism and Semitic Paganism. Each non-horde Desert Kingdoms faction has two main religions to choose between. Aksum may follow Eastern Christianity and Semitic Paganism, while Himyar may choose between Judaism and Semitic Paganism. Religion now has further-reaching effects, influencing many aspects of Desert Kingdoms campaign gameplay. It is deeply intertwined with a number of features including building chains, victory conditions, events, technologies and overall campaign bonuses:
Dual religion building chains
Aksum and Himyar possess a building chain for each of their main religions. They can build these buildings regardless of their faction religion. This allows players to exert greater control over their faction religion and change it reactively in response to their situation.
Tier-5 barracks
Aksum and Himyar have two new tier-5 barracks available, one for each religion. To unlock a barracks, the faction must have 75% influence in the respective religion. These barracks buildings each provide three unique elite units as well as unlocking a variety of campaign benefits.
Split victory-conditions and achievements
Desert Kingdoms factions have two sets of victory conditions, one for each of their main religions, that involve a number of units and structures related to that religion.
Increased diplomatic significance
The new religions have increased diplomatic impact, forcing the player to choose their religion carefully based on who they wish to ally with.
Pleasure building-chain
Non-horde Desert Kingdoms factions have access to a new industrial building-chain which provides large sums of money, but decreases your majority religion, meaning you must choose between religious stability and financial gain.
Religious technologies
Each non-horde Desert Kingdoms faction has a technology chain for each of its main religions. These convey a number of religious and campaign bonuses to help you manage and optimize your religious choices.
Increased Religious Discord Penalties
The public order penalties for religious disharmony within your provinces have been increased between the new religions, meaning that the benefits are balanced with increased risk if you fail to manage your religions correctly.
Reactive Religious events (Aksum and Himyar)
Two new events have been added that trigger when certain religious conditions are met, and provide you with intriguing dilemmas and missions.
Factions
Tumblr media
The Tanukhids
The Tanukhids are a horde faction, representing a desert rebellion with a hyper-aggressive playstyle, plus a host of unique traits and features. Faction Trait: Legendary Raiders Rapacious Horde: Food is obtained through settlement battles rather than buildings.
Tumblr media
Victory rallies: Every military victory spreads your fame and swells your ranks, increasing the horde’s growth. Swelling Ranks: Armies in Raiding stance gain a free Rebellion Militia unit every turn. History The Tanukhids have travelled a long way from their homelands. Originally part of the Qahtani tribal confederation, they migrated north in the aftermath of a flood which devastated their homeland, eventually leaving Arabia altogether. Coming into contact with the Roman Empire, the Tanukhids have since been employed as Roman foederati, and considered a dependable cavalry force. However, they recently rebelled against Rome following Emperor Valens' attempts to convert them from Orthodox to Arian Christianity. The Tanukhids – under their warrior queen, Mavia – fought so hard, and so fiercely, that they defeated the Romans in the field on several occasions and forced agreement to their terms. Despite the odds, these devout people have created a life for themselves as free Arabs, who pledge allegiance to none but God and their brave queen - surely all that is required to attain true greatness!
Campaign features
New building trees While migrating, the Tanukhids have access to a completely new Horde building tree comprising 34 new buildings, each with unique artwork and campaign effects. Unique event chain A brand new event-chain guides you in your rebellion against the Romans, and leads you ultimately to settlement and the formation of an empire. Dynamic Barrack unlocks Completing missions unlocks higher tiers of barracks and provides access to new, defecting Roman units. Unit Roster The Tanukhid Roster focuses on battlefield area-control and micro management. Light but powerful shock cavalry are paired with stealth units and fast pike units. Badyia Skirmishers – Light stalk (remain hidden in all terrains) Javelinmen Desert Pikes – Light, rapid advance pikes with high missile block chance Dune Lancers – Very light guerilla-deployment shock cavalry with javelin precursor Mavia’s Bodyguards – Very heavy shock cavalry (general’s unit) Mavia’s Chargers – Very light shock cav with very good charge bonus
Tumblr media
Mavia’s Chosen – Very light shock cav with exceptional charge bonus Mavia’s Lancers – Very light shock cav with good charge bonus Rebellion Militia – Zero-upkeep troops with high missile block chance and low damage Sandstorm Lancers – Very light guerilla deployment shock cavalry with javelin precursor Tanukhid Ambushers – Light stalk swordsmen with exceptional charge Tanukhid Pikes – Heavy pikes with rapid advance Desert Palatina Defectors – Heavy Roman defensive infantry Desert Legionary Guards - Heavy Roman defensive infantry Hetaireia Guards – Roman two-handed axe infantry Clibanarii – Heavy Roman shock cavalry with bows
Aksum
Located on the coast of Africa, the people of Aksum owe their power to excellent trade routes, a fact reflected in their gameplay and traits. Faction Trait: Gateway To The East Supply network: +30 food for each active trade network (maximum 150). Merchant Guards: +100 to mercenary pool replenishment rate. Commercial Mastery: +10% trade income. History The Kingdom of Aksum grows prosperous through trade; the Silk Road is kind to those who know how to harness its riches, and the Aksumites have spent their lives trading along it. Although its Ethiopian heartlands have been occupied for hundreds of years, Aksum has recently grown in size due to the hugely lucrative trade route to India and beyond, on which it sits. When a nation becomes so rich and powerful, it attracts those who wish to steal its wealth for themselves; the neighbouring Himyarites are one such adversary. As the 5th century dawns, military and religious lines have once again been drawn in the sand. Aksum enjoys Rome's favour, and the wealth of the world fills its coffers - let those who would challenge that might face Aksumite steel, and feel Aksumite strength!
Campaign features
Unique Event Chain A unique event chain challenges you to claim a series of resources in exchange for unlocking new spice buildings, and Gupta Indian influenced units. Unit Roster The Aksumite roster focuses on powerful spears and shock troops. They are lightly armoured but capable of devastating optimal damage. They also have a number of unusual troops, such as hunting dog archers and hybrid axe/bow units. Abunas Guard – Heavy defensive spear cavalry (Eastern Christian only) Adana Marksmen – Elite Warhound bowmen Adana Trackers – Warhound Bowmen Afar Camel Riders – Guerilla deployment mounted Camel Swordsmen Afar Raidmasters – Shock infantry with exceptional attack (Semitic Pagan only) Afar Swordsmen – Shock infantry with high attack Beher’s Chosen – Heavy shotel unit (Semitic Pagan only) Bet Giorgis Cavalry – Medium spear cavalry with exceptional attack (Eastern Christian only)
Tumblr media
Elite Tor Warriors – Heavy defensive spears Marz Archers – Snipe (fire from cover) archers Masqal Spearmen – High armour-piercing, high attack spearmen (Eastern Christian only) Mounted Marz Archers – Mounted archers Ras Guard – Heavy defensive spear unit with precursor Sons of the Invincible Mahrem – High base damage, high attack spearmen (Semitic Pagan only) Spice Guard – Hybrid two-handed axe unit with bow Spice Warriors – Light khanda wielder T’or Warriors – Defensive spearmen
Himyar
Himyar is a powerful Arabian kingdom on the peninsula. The Himyarites survive in their arid lands through a series of specialised adaptations to the desert. Faction Trait: Desert Warriors Fatigue rate: -15% for all warriors. Marib Dam: Unique fertility-boosting building in faction capital. Desert Saboteurs: Stops foreign replenishment in regions where armies are present. History The Sabaean Kingdom is diminished and, in its place, Himyar ascends! The victorious Shamir Yuhar'ish has declared himself 'King of Saba, Dhu Raydan and of Hadramawt and Yamanat' at his coronation, and no one dares challenge this proclamation.
Total War: Attila - Empires Of Sand Culture Pack download free. full
Sabaean local power was based, in large part, on overland trade routes, but Himyar has discovered and exploited new sea trade routes to India, making it the principle economic power in southern Arabia. Much like neighbouring Aksum, Himyar controls the flow of trade along major trade routes to the east. The militaristic Himyarites relentlessly pursue their aims, particularly when facing the hated Aksumites. Himyar has even recently converted to Judaism, seemingly only to fuel the constant war that rages between them. It has sacrificed much to hold onto a powerful position during a tumultuous time, and will surely seize the future by force of will alone!
Campaign features
Marib Dam: Unique Events The Marib Dam was an engineering marvel of the ancient world, though it was famously breached. Playing as Himyar, players will periodically be presented with options to make repairs. Leaving the dam untended brings the risk of floods, and repair is costly – however, in good working order, the dam can bring a powerful series of benefits. Unit Roster Hardy and weathered, Himyar forces are drilled to feats of great stamina. Their roster is built around a series of tanking defensive units to represent their desert hardiness. Almaqahs Lancers – Very heavy camel lancers (Semitic Pagan only)
Total War: Attila - Empires Of Sand Culture Pack Download Free Download
Armoured Himyarite Shotelai – Armoured camel mounted shotelai Ashum – Light archers with large shield Athars Chosen – 80 man unit with exceptional health, attack, morale, damage and charge (Semitic Pagan only) Baltha Defenders – Elite heavy defensive axe infantry Baltha Warriors – Defensive axe infantry Himyarite Shotelai – Camel mounted shotel unit

INDIA VISION 2035
Tumblr media
“If you Play Small, you Stay Small”
India, a country so old and rich with History that even super computers of the modern world cannot document its significance. The land has its reputation for the culture and diversity seen in various divisions of the country. A population of over a billion and a half does the needful in accommodating the above said diversity and boy haven’t they been vocal? Well, truly living in the lines of “Vocal for Local”
Quite often the common notion of the word “BIG” has been associated with being “powerful”, but is that quite the case with India? It surely is a very big country in landmass but the concept of power is more often not synonymous with India’s international presence. The country’s political system has been built on the core of Democracy and has been termed as the largest Democracy in the world with the highest vote bank. The power invested in the people of the country is massive in terms of electing their representatives which is largely due to its massive population. It can be said that a huge population can sometimes be a blessing if they were all skilled enough to make the best of the country’s resources but a majority of India’s vast population is illiterate and have no access to basic standards of living. Poverty looms large in the rural areas and there is a massive income disparity between different classes of people. The country has an infamous record for ranking low in multiple human development indexes and has not shown any considerable improvement in the quality of living for different sections of people in all these years.
Fast forward to the present timeline, India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world and has a multitude of large-scale development schemes to put the country on the map as a global leader and a super power.
The Indian Government is currently working on a number of futuristic visions for development and one of the most Important development goals was the “Vision 2020” pioneered by Former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam according to which no citizen will fall under the poverty line but unfortunately that goal was not reached and there are revised versions introduced which are slowly been put into effect by the government. One of the main visions is that India aims to become a 5 Trillion Dollar Economy in the year 2025 and this an important element for India becoming a super power in the span of the next 15 years.
For India to become a super power by 2035, there are four areas of focus to reach the goal and they are-
1. Economy
2. Defence
3. Space Research & Development
4. International Relations
Situational Analysis
ECONOMY
India’s GDP was estimated at Rs. 33.14 trillion (US$ 452.74 billion) for the second quarter of FY2020-21, against Rs. 35.84 trillion (US$ 489.62 billion) in the second quarter of FY2019-20.
India is the fourth-largest unicorn base in the world with over 21 unicorns collectively valued at US$ 73.2 billion. By 2025, India is expected to have 100 unicorns by 2025 and will create 1.1 million direct jobs.
India needs to increase its rate of employment growth and create 90 million non-farm jobs between 2023 and 2030's, for productivity and economic growth. Net employment rate needs to grow by 1.5% per year from 2023 to 2030 to achieve 8-8.5% GDP growth between 2023 and 2030.
Main Economic Objective (next 15 years) – India is currently recovering from the Corona Virus pandemic and the economy was hit really hard. Despite the situation, India’s GDP is expected to reach US$ 5 trillion by FY25 and achieve upper-middle income status on the back of digitization, globalization, favourable demographics, and reforms.
India is also focusing on renewable sources to generate energy. It is planning to achieve 40% of its energy from non-fossil sources by 2030, which is currently 30%, and have plans to increase its renewable energy capacity from to 175 gigawatts (GW) by 2022. Investment into Renewable sources is just one potential areas for development but there is a dire need for investments into other important industries over the course of 15 years
DEFENCE
The Indian Defence Forces are one of the best in the world with an established Army, Airforce and Navy departments. Indian Defence personnel are highly disciplined and trained to work in high skill combat missions as they have done so in the past. India has been involved in a number of conflicts after independence and the important ones were against the arch rival and neighbour, PAKISTAN, Jammu and Kashmir being the longstanding warzone for these nations. The various wings of the Indian Armed forces are:
1. Indian Army
2. Indian Navy
3. Indian Air Force
4. Indian Coast Guard
5. Central Police forces to name a few
Defence Technology in India however, is not highly developed and is in the first few stages of achieving big break throughs. The Majority of India’s defence technology is Imported from other countries, be it weapons or missiles or equipment for the personnel. Russia is the most important defence partner for India and makes up for India’s inability to provide inhouse/domestic defence technology. Some defence technology development organisations are:
1. Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) - Responsible for General development on Weapons, Communication, Equipment &Gear and other defence related technologies
2. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)- Develops and Manufactures Combat aircrafts and Helicopters
3. Ordnance Factory Board –The Board in charge of the ordnance factories manufacturing arms/weapons in India
4. Private Defence Manufacturing Companies +Defence start-ups. etc
These companies have been essential in defence upgradation but have not been utilised to the best of their abilities due to lack of investments and innovation. This retards India’s ability to produce Defence technology domestically and increases its dependence on foreign imports.
Main Objective (next 15 years) – To effectively improve and adapt indigenously developed Defence Technology into the armed forces and to execute defence schemes introduced by the government
SPACE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
The Indian Space Research Organisation is the apex Space development body in India and has conducted several missions like Chandrayaan 1(2008) & Chandrayaan 2 (2019), Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan, 2013-14, ongoing) and ASTROSAT (Astronomy Satellite) to name a few.
India’s recent Anti Satellite Missile Defence system, called Mission Shakti, testing was a huge success and it officially marked ISRO’s entry into the list of Space Super powers with NASA, Roscosmos and Chinese National Space Administration who have the same technology. This was a joint operation between DRDO and ISRO
Indian space agencies have matched with other super powers only in a few areas and need more structural and research-based missions to mark itself as a super power in the Space division. ISRO is looking to send Indians to space by 2022 and are working on a large-scale mission called Gaganyaan. To further fulfil the goal of becoming a super power, ISRO is working on the following projects:
1. Chandrayaan-3
2. Lunar Polar Exploration Mission
3. Mangalyaan 2
4. Gaganyaan, To name a few.
More importantly, Indian Government made an announcement providing an opportunity for Private Companies to invest and develop technology for ISRO and related Space Programs
Main Objective (next 15 years)- ISRO must successfully Plan, Develop, Organise, Expand and Execute many more space programs and space related policies (Public and Private) to help the economy in the next 15 years
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
India post-independence has developed crucial diplomatic relations and partnerships with countries from all major continents and have been significantly influential in the cultures of their partners. Indian presence internationally is minimal as compared to the P5 nations in terms of Trade, Security, Technology, Skilled Human Capital and Geopolitical Situations. Surely there is a water body named after the country but no high regional power to assertively mark their presence as a regional power. If India should emerge as a global power with international policies and importance, the country must first gain regional cooperation and must build on a very strong role in the subcontinent.
India has a long-standing geopolitical crisis with Pakistan and China, this is treated as a threat to India’s national Security and has retarded relations with these countries. Pakistan is the main concern as the relations are very strained.
Additionally, in terms of India’s global presence, India is not a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and neither is it a part of the G7 /G8.
Main Objective (next 15 years)- India must become a regional power with regional cooperation and must find ways to resolve its regional Geopolitical problems. India must also find a way to become a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Furthermore, India should find ways to improve its international trade partnerships

Tumblr media
We are Army printed clothing manufacturer and supplier in India. We believe in Make in India project and we see our self to take some responsibility in order to spread national awareness for our Indian Army. We are proud to say we are contributing every possible bit we can, towards the strong nation and strengthening the bond between our society with love for the Indian Army with our army printed clothing in India.
When you see Army soldiers wearing camouflage trousers and jackets, you can say they've got their fatigues on. Another name for fatigues is "battledress," as opposed to the more formal dress uniforms worn by members of all military branches. Fatigues are what soldiers wear when they're working or engaging in battle.
Propper is a manufacturer of clothing and gear for tactical, law enforcement, public safety, and military applications. Since 1967 it has been one of the main uniform suppliers to the United States military.
t-shirts, hats and even Field Jackets are ok, especially if you are representing a relative, or simply showing respect. However, do NOT wear any rank, medals or decorations that they might have won. That would be what we veterans call 'Stolen Honor'. Buy Army Clothing Online in India
TLDR – In the United States, it is legal for civilians to wear military uniforms. However, it is against the law to impersonate a member of the military for personal gains, such as wearing a uniform to commit fraud.
You do not have to wear your uniform when off duty, unless you are in certain training environments. You should not wear your uniform when you are off duty, except for transportation home. Some military assignments have strict rules against wearing a uniform while off duty, especially when stationed overseas.
Even if your wedding is a “civilian” wedding, you can allow any active military members of the bridal party (or guests) to wear their uniforms. ... Formal dress protocol and uniforms vary across the different military branches (Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Marine Corps). Buy Army Clothing Online in India
Army & Air Force Exchange Service Military Clothing stores are the only authorized source for government-certified uniforms. Exchange Military Clothing Stores will carry all available bagged/issue items, as well as a broad selection of optional/commercial items.
While most units allow non issued pouches and trucks, the body armor and helmet are vary rarely allowed to be purchased off the market. ... There are too many companies selling gear for the Army to test and verify the quality and stopping power of body armor and the matching plates.
A person who is discharged honorably or under honorable conditions from the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps may wear his uniform while going from the place of discharge to his home, within three months after his discharge.
A civilian should stand and hold the right hand and hat over the heart out of respect and attention for a national flag as it is carried past, or for a body of troops passing by.

It’s all fun and games until someone fails a saving throw shirt
Over the years, Patton rose in the ranks, despite the racist treatment he received aboard ship. He made history as the first coast guardsman to serve as a senior enlisted advisor on a joint task force to send troops into Haiti. Later in his career, he served as master chief of the Coast Guard, during which time he developed a branch-wide culture of diversity and support for cultural differences, including sexual orientation. Also included in the feature is the story of private first-class Tecumseh Nathaniel Underwood, a Seminole Indian who enlisted in the Army because he faced such limited prospects for employment in his native Oklahoma.
