Nearly 50 students packed the Kenneth L. Smith and Theresa Kathryn (Klein) Smith Magna Carta Courtroom on Tuesday to learn more about the insurance industry from an ISU alum.
Matt Van Scyoc,, a Scott College of Business graduate ’17 and Marvin Johnson and Associates (MJA) members spoke about the company’s history and the demands of the trucking industry. Afterward, students were invited to test their skills on a semi-truck driving simulator.

We welcome Michael Lubben on Monday as the Spencer Risk Manager on Campus. Michael is Director of Global Risk Management for Henry Crown and Company / CC Industries, based in Chicago.
Students have two days of Insurance-based meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday and Michael will be presenting the open forum presentation “Risk Management in a Large, Privately-Held Conglomerate” at 12pm on Wednesday, March 29, in the Smith Courtroom in Federal Hall.

The Indiana State IRM Program was thrilled to be selected again this year to participate in the Selective College Competition taking place throughout February. Students were excited to kick off the competition yesterday!
Indiana State University students competing in the competition are (L to R): Bryce McLeish, Jillian Turner, Julia Sonntag, Kyle Koch, and Gabe Youngblood.
The competition provides students the opportunity to gain valuable insurance career-building experience through hands-on work and to grow their networks through social and networking events. The competition allows each team to operate a simulated insurance agency and requires the students to leverage their education and experiences to make informed business decisions about building market share, developing products and services, growing profit, promoting their firm, and contending with competitors.
The Indiana State University - Scott College of Business team is grateful to be paired with Agency Mentors from Gibson. Indiana State IRM Program alumni, Brittany Graman, Learning and Development Specialist with Gibson and Jak Kramer, ARM, Commercial Risk Advisor with Gibson will serve as mentors to the team.
