Fashion Dreamer Thoughts

Some things I found interesting about Fashion Dreamer! (Not everything will be here) I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts about it too :D Please note, all these screenshots were taken from the first trailer and store listing info only, so please take everything with a heaping pinch of salt (if future info disproves everything lmao)!

Also please note this post is pretty text and image-heavy! You may want to open it over wi-fi only or on desktop!

1. Character Customisation

First of all, it looks like we have the option to play with female/male looking avatars (finally)! However, the screenshot showing the male avatar doesn’t look to have any dresses/one-piece clothes in his inventory so clothing may still be gender-locked...

Secondly, it looks like the male avatar has facial hair?? The light beige around his chin looks like it anyway. At the very least, his eyebrows are definitely also beige, so it seems like we can have different colours for our hairstyle and eyebrows!

Unnatural skintones for all your fantasy needs... Or at least this ghostly zombie-like one which I haven’t seen any living human have. Since Fashion Dreamer takes place in the virtual world of Eve, it makes sense that we’d be able to have them! It might just be me, but it also looks like there are more height variations available too - I don’t remember the difference being so big between the shortest and tallest options before.

(On the billboard at the back, there are matching sailor uniforms for both genders, which ties back to my previous thinking that clothes might be gender-locked... I hope I’ll be proved wrong)

Sweet new hairstyles! We can mirror the styles and dye the same style in different ways, however it seems to be reminiscent of GM2 in that the fringe and back style aren’t able to be selected separately (Going off the trailer when the avatar’s hair switches from a wispy sideswept fringe and pigtails to this long blunt cut immediately)

Since this was in the part of the trailer featuring photoshoots (more on that soon) I’m assuming the second icon is pose selection? Along with hairstyle, hair colour and eyebrow style. Being able to change your avatar’s height/skin colour and face shape might be the first and second last icons (That’d be pretty cool, considering those options were locked behind completing the main story in previous GM games!) The third one is the one I’m confused about, since I would have thought that the clothes change icon would be something like a shirt or hanger lol - maybe it’s accessories??

2. Gameplay Mechanics

So... from everything I’ve seen in the trailer, it doesn’t seem like we earn money through styling anymore - instead we earn brand influencer points? Along with bingo tickets, which serve a currently unknown purpose. Leveling up increases our item box space (which I assume would be the equivalent of our closet in GM) and nets us creative points which will be used in fashion designing!

I think it was @alphards-asterism who mentioned something about not being able to buy clothes from the exhibition mall anymore, but it looks like it might still be available judging by the last screenshot (taken from the store listing images)? Unless the whole thing is just a set for the photoshoot feature, which would be MEGA disappointing :(

There are... rarities for clothes now??? Not sure how to feel about that; it kind of reminds me of those mobile gacha games where higher rarity=higher charm/popularity. Maybe it only affects the amount of points needed to create it? Another thing that caught my eye is the ‘type’ - the dress in the first screenshot is type A, while the earrings in the second don’t have a type. I wonder what this means? :o

It seems like Fashion Dreamer truly does emphasise on creating your own brand, with us being able to create anything from dresses to socks to earrings! It looks like the creative points we earn from leveling up are used to unlock new designs. It also looks like there are lots of colours available (from the start...? Here’s hoping there’s no freaking colour hunting in this game... :’))

3. PHOTOSHOOTS

PHOTOSHOOTS RETURN!!! I know we had the photo taking in GM4, but that one just felt so lackluster to me :( I’m sooo excited for this feature to be improved and expanded upon!

The sets look absolutely amazing - the angel wings illusion is so super cute (Pripara, anyone?) The avant-garde looking monochrome/blue set are really striking and includes mannequin styling! The last screenshot is my fave for two reasons: lots of pink and a gorgeous frame too!! The background looks like the brand backgrounds in previous GM games, doesn’t it? With all the repeating patterns and text? Maybe it alludes to a new brand 👀 or I’m just reading too much into it LOL.

There’s a ‘Play Pose Motion’ option, so I think it means we can save videos instead of just pictures now! In the second screenshot, there’s a ‘Drone Camera’ option - I’m not sure what it’ll look like, but it’s nice to know that we don’t have to stick to just the usual front-facing camera anymore.

These 3 things were the biggest sections of the trailer that really caught my eye (besides the obvious stuff, like graphical improvement and such)! I’m gonna hold off on commenting on the player interaction because I think there’s really just not enough info about it, BUT I will mention that I would be heartbroken if there aren’t any weird but lovable NPCs anymore... I can’t really imagine a GM game without colourful characters like Emmylou, Sophie, Rosie/Yolanda/Alina or even good ol’ Uncle Tim (LMAO) even if they’re trying to move away from Girls Mode and rebrand to Fashion Dreamer.

Tutorial: editing manga raws

Disclaimer: This is a tutorial for beginners with no experience using Photoshop for editing manga raws. It is not comprehensive, nor does it detail the only reliable method for achieving a good result. This is just a walkthrough of the method I find to have the best ratio of effort to result quality, according to my own tastes.

Open the file in Photoshop: If you do not own PS, see notes at the end of this post.

Click "open" on the PS startup menu or under "File" on the top bar of the window.

Click "File" on the top bar of the window, click "Save As" and save in your desired location as a Photoshop Document (.psd).

Regularly save the file with File > Save or with the shortcut CTRL+S/CMD+S while editing so you don't lose your work.

Change image mode: If your file name has "(Index)" after it, you will need to change the image mode to edit it properly.

Click "Image" on the top bar, then "Mode". Select "Grayscale" if you are working in B/W, or "RGB" if you plan on working with color. You can change this later, although it can sometimes affect your image in unexpected ways.

Crop (optional): You may want to crop your file down to what you want your final edit to include. You can also do this later if you prefer.

Click the crop icon on the left toolbar and click and drag over the area you want to work with. You can adjust by hovering over the edges of the selection and dragging when the arrows appear. You can rotate the crop by doing this at the corners as well.

Click the check mark on the options bar to confirm.

Be aware of the icon on the options bar which, when selected, permanently deletes the pixels outside of your crop. It is best not to have it on so you can adjust the crop later, but if your computer struggles with running PS, it may be worth using.

Surface blur (optional): Surface blur helps limit the amount of manual cleaning you will have to do by evening out some of the texture of the paper fiber you can see in raw manga.

(Extra optional) resize the image to 2X its current size. Go to "Image" on the top bar, then click "Image Size". Change the width or height to 2X the original value, making sure the "constrain aspect ratio" icon is checked. Hit OK.

Go to "Filter" on the top bar, then "Blur", then "Surface Blur".

Adjust the values on the box that comes up to balance between limiting the amount of texture in flat black and white area with not blurring details together. It will not be the same for every image, but will likely be similar. You can check and uncheck the preview button to compare your adjustment to the original. Hit OK when done.

If you resized the image, repeat the process, this time returning it to its original size.

Leveling

Click the "Layers" panel button on the right of the screen to open it.

On the bottom of the layers panel, click the button that looks like a half-white, half-black circle. Under that menu, click "Levels".

The levels adjustment panel should open, and you should see something that looks like a graph. As you drag the right and left slider on the graph inward, you will notice the blacks and whites getting more intense, respectively. Adjust these too your taste, but be aware that dragging them too far towards the middle can mess with gradation and midtones if they are present. You can adjust the middle slider as well. Play around until you get a look you like.

Sharpening (optional): Sharpening increases the definition of the edges of an image. I personally don't do this a lot of the time because I'm not crazy about the look, but it is a common step for many people, so it is worth knowing about since you may prefer the sharpened look.

Go back to the "Layers" panel. Make sure the layer that has the image on it is selected.

Go to "Filter" on the top bar, then "Sharpen".

There are a variety of sharpening options underneath sharpen. Try them and see what appeals to you. You can use all of these on one image, and apply them multiple times. If you sharpen too much, just use the CTRL+z/CMD+z shortcut to undo your previous actions.

Spot cleaning: If there's still some visible "dirt" on the image, I quickly clean it up with the brush tool.

On the bottom of the layer panel, click the "+" icon to create a new layer. Make sure you have it selected.

Click the brush tool in the left tool panel.

Size of the brush can be adjusted on the options panel, and the color can be adjusted on the side toolbar.

Just click over spots with a black/white brush to cover them up. You can use the eraser tool in the left panel, or CTRL+z/CMD+z, if you mess up. The eraser won't effect the image itself because your touch-ups are on a separate layer.

Export: When you're all done with a basic manga edit, you can either keep editing if you want to do something more elaborate (not covered in this tutorial) or export your file to a type you can upload on the web.

Click "File" on the top bar of the window, then "Export", then "Export As".

You have the option to change the final file type in this window. I recommend a PNG for high quality or a JPG if you want to limit file size. You can also change the size of the exported image here; it is up to you and your needs if you do this.

Click the blue export button and choose where you want to export the final edit.

Additional Notes: Software

Photoshop: I recommend Photoshop for editing, and it is what this tutorial is based around. However, I don't recommend paying for it. Here is how you can get if for free.

(Highly recommended) Enable your VPN if you have one.

Go here.

Type "photoshop" into the search bar on the top right of the screen, and look for the result with the highest "S" value (green text).

Click on the magnet icon next to the file size to torrent the file.

If you don't know how to torrent, here is an external tutorial.

Install the program according to the instructions in the information file and you will be set.

Photopea:

If you aren't comfortable downloading pirated files onto your computer, Photopea has a lot of the same functionality as Photoshop, but in-browser.

I'm not sure how it handles large files, but in terms of functionality it should be able to do anything you would need for edits.

Additional Notes: Space

Raws can take up a lot of space, because ideally they are both large and lossless (meaning they don't lose quality as the files are uploaded, downloaded, etc). Additionally, having few GBs free on your computer can hinder Photoshop's performance when editing said raws. If you don't have a lot of computer space, these are my recommendations:

The cheapest solution is knowing what you want to edit and what volume it is in, so you can download only what you need. This may not work for all raws, because they might all be grouped together in one massive upload, but mine are posted by volume.

The best solution is to buy an external hard drive. I would not encourage you to get one just for this, but this is a useful tool for anyone. Besides helping you free up a ton of storage space, it blows your piracy game wide open, and you can save a crazy amount of your favorite media in a place no one can take it from you. They are not super cheap, but they are well worth the price if you use them. Be sure to get the most out of it. I have this one and it works great.

You can also make use of cloud storage, though I don't really recommend it.

Writing Disability and Eugenics

Hello! Two things -

One is that I am going to tag this appropriately (feel free to @ me if I miss one) but will be straightforward in the post. This is a post about eugenics. Please do not engage with it if it is going to upset you.

Two: This is adjacent to disability, and that is what I mostly make these long advice posts about, so I’m including it in my Disability Writing Guides thingy. I will do my best to address racism in the history of eugenics, but obviously will not be able to fully address ableism and racism and eugenics in one Tumblr post. Additions are greatly appreciated! So are any thoughts, questions, or criticisms. I read all the notes on these posts and my ask box is open, so feel free to speak up <3

Vocab

Eugenics is defined as the study or practice of arranging human reproduction in order to increase heritable traits regarded as “desirable.”

Positive eugenics refers to the practice of encouraging people with “desirable” traits to have children. An example is believing that smart people should have more children to increase the number of smart people in the world.

Negative eugenics refers to the practice of discouraging or preventing people with “undesirable” traits from having children. An example of this would be forced sterilization of a person with a medical condition.

“New” or “liberal” eugenics refers to the contemporary eugenics movement and believes in enhancing human characteristics through reproductive technology and human genetic engineering. Proponents believe that the practice should be permitted, though the state should not be involved, and it should be left to informed parental choice.

“Designer babies” is a provocative term used to evoke the idea of parents selecting or “designing” their child’s genes, in order to control for everything from genetic medical conditions, to eye color or height.

Genetic engineering is the process of using lab-based technology to alter the DNA makeup of an organism. Use of this in humans is what would lead to so-called “designer babies.”

Scientific racism or biological racism is the pseudo-scientific or false belief that there is empirical evidence that proves the superiority of one or some races over others.

Racial hygiene is the racist, pseudo-scientific idea that preventing people of different races from “interbreeding” would keep races “pure” and ensure the prevalence of traits associated with that race.

Genetic screening is the process of testing people for genetic diseases to identify if they have the disease or the potential to pass it to their children.

Sterilization is a medical term referring to a procedure that renders someone permanently unable to have children. This can be performed in a variety of ways on people with any genitalia.

Reproductive technology is a broad term that refers to any technology used to aid or change reproduction. A common example is IVF (in-vitro fertilization) therapy to assist individuals struggling with infertility.

Biological or genetic determinism is the belief that genetic makeup determines everything about a person, from appearance to cognition to personality. Someone who believes in genetic determinism would say humans are “all nature, no nurture.”

Social darwinism is the theory that the principles of Darwinism also act on individuals, groups, and societies. In short, that “survival of the fittest” does and even should apply to humans, races, and societies as well as animals.

History of Eugenics

Often, the discussion of eugenics begins and ends with Hitler and the Nazi party. While the Nazis certainly were avowed eugenicists, eugenics has a history before and after World War 2. As usual, I’m going to highlight some key points, but am not able to lay out an exhaustive history in this here Tumblr post. Apologies.

Eugenics is thought to have “begun” with Francis Galton, a cousin of Charles Darwin, who believed that the human race could be improved by “selective breeding.” He believed in so-called social Darwinism, and believed that its outcomes should be expanded and refined by science. He is the one who came up with the term eugenics. It is worth noting that Charles Darwin himself strongly disagreed with his cousin’s theories.

In reality, what Galton did was give a name to a phenomenon that had existed at least since Plato, who suggested “selectively breeding” humans as early as 400 BCE. People with “undesirable” traits had been discriminated against for centuries, including in regards to reproduction. The only thing that Francis Galton truly created was the idea of eugenics as a scientific concept.

The early eugenics movement began in the United Kingdom and spread quickly through Western and colonized countries. It was seen as a purely good thing, and was supported across the political spectrum. Consequently, many countries and governments started official eugenics programs, employing both positive and negative eugenic strategies. These included massive human rights abuses primarily targeted at historically marginalized populations, like racial minorities and the disabled.

Eugenics became associated with Nazi Germany as Hitler and his followers attempted to create a “pure” Aryan race, through both traditional eugenic methods as well as mass genocide. At the Nuremberg trials where many Nazis faced justice, it was argued that there was little difference between Nazi eugenic programs and their US counterparts.

Until this point, eugenics had been widely popular and considered in a positive light. Following World War 2, with new beliefs and emphasis on human rights, eugenic programs were shut down and disavowed, though some Western countries (including the US, but also Sweden and Canada) quietly continued their eugenic practices for decades.

Since the 1980s and 90s, as reproductive technology improves, there has been increasing discussion around use and further development of this technology. Critics fear that this will mean a new and more dangerous revival of eugenics, while proponents argue that the new technology could mean an end to genetic disease and a new era of increased parental choice.

What Does Eugenics or Eugenic Thinking Look Like?

When people think eugenics, generally they imagine forced sterilization or sterilization without full informed consent. This absolutely is eugenics, but the picture is both bigger and more complex than that.

Sterilizing someone without their consent is a eugenic practice. There are well-documented histories of this happening to low income communities, people of color, and disabled people.

It still happens today when parents or guardians of cognitively, intellectually, or developmentally disabled individuals give permission for them to be sterilized. It is still a eugenic practice to sterilize a person without their consent, even if that person would be unable to consent to having a child.

Encouraging the abortion of a certain type of fetus is a eugenic practice, even when that fetus is likely to be born with a serious medical condition.

Reminder that eugenics occurs on the population level. An individual parent who decides to abort their fetus may be acting in accordance with eugenic beliefs, but individual choice is not eugenics. Urging anyone in that position to abort their child is.

Example for clarity: Jo decides to abort their fetus because a prenatal screening showed that the child would likely be born with Down Syndrome. This is not eugenics.

Jo writes about their experience and publishes it in a local newspaper. They explain that they aborted their fetus because they felt that the fetus would be better off and because they believed it was best to choose to have “healthy” children. They advise others to take advantage of genetic screening and do the same. This is eugenics.

Widespread genetic screening, when paired with encouraged abortion of certain fetuses, can be considered a eugenic practice. If screening is conducted to prepare for a child that may have unanticipated support needs, this is not eugenic.

Creating an incentive for certain groups to be sterilized or have less children is a eugenic practice. An example would be in California, when inmates were offered a sentence reduction if they agreed to be sterilized.

Embryo selection is a process in which medical professionals performing IVF screen embryos for genetic abnormalities and only implant embryos that do not present with genetic abnormalities, even against the wishes of parents. This is a eugenic practice.

Saying certain types of people should not have children is eugenic thinking. This is not limited to racial or ethnic minorities or disabled people. It extends to pretty much any group, from religious people to drug users to Republicans.

For example: Terry believes people diagnosed with schizophrenia should not have kids. Schizophrenia is thought to have a genetic basis, so the kids might inherit it from their parent, and Terry feels that this is a bad thing. Even if they do not, she believes schizophrenic people make bad parents and that the world would be better off without schizophrenic parents. This is eugenic thinking.

Believing that complex personality or identity features can be located within specific genes is genetic determinism, which is closely tied to eugenics. It is not necessarily eugenic thinking on its own, but the question of what decisions and screenings would happen if these genes were determined is eugenic.

For example: For many years, scientists have searched for a “gay” gene which controls sexuality on a genetic level. Believing this gene exists is genetic determinism. Finding this gene and attempting to eliminate or expand it in the human gene pool is eugenics.

Believing that certain people should have more children because the world should have more people like them is eugenics. It is positive eugenics, but it’s still eugenics.

For example: Loren thinks that Canadians are kinder and more peaceful than other people. He thinks that Canadians should have more kids, because the world would be a better place if there were more Canadians. This is eugenic thinking.

Ethical Implications

In the past, the primary reason eugenics was morally unacceptable was because it was used against marginalized populations for bigoted reasons. This continues to be an argument against eugenics today - it is easy to designate a group of people as problematic and then attempt to unjustly eliminate that population through eugenic means. Deciding that the world would be better off with fewer or no members of a group is bigoted and inherently offensive.

In 1968′s Proclamation of Tehran, the right to reproduce was named as a basic human right. Thus any negative eugenic practice can be considered a human rights violation.

Some believe that eugenics policies, both positive and negative, reduce genetic diversity and will lead to an overall increase in genetic problems. Others believe that trying to create genetic lines that are “pure” and free of “disorders” could create issues years in the future by reducing population level resilience and immunity to disease.

Many people simply believe it is unethical to try to eliminate any particular group from the world.

I am not going to discuss the reasoning behind “old” or “traditional” eugenics. It’s bigotry, plain and simple.

Proponents of new eugenics believe in it for very different reasons. They argue that parents owe it to their offspring to select fetuses that are going to have the happiest, easiest lives.

Others argue that there are some disabilities or conditions that are so painful and lead to lives that are so unrewarding, that it is better that babies who would be born with these conditions never live at all.

This may sound unequivocally awful, and from a disability justice framework, it is pretty awful. However, me reducing this argument to a Disney-villain “disabled people don’t deserve to live” would be dishonest. In thinking about this final point, and the new eugenics movement broadly, it is important to remember that there are some genetic conditions that do seem to cause relentless suffering.

One commonly cited example is Tay-Sachs disease, which is an incurable and fatal condition in which degenerative symptoms progress and kill the child, usually by age 4. Should we allow babies to be born with Tay-Sachs if it can be avoided? New eugenics says no, or at the very least, it is ethically sound for parents to be able make that decision themselves.

Think Twice About

As always I’m not going to tell anyone what to write, or what not to write. I am only saying that these are things you should think about and understand the implications of if you are writing them!

Think about the logic underlying prenatal screenings and abortion of affected fetuses. If this features in your writing, is a fear the characters have, or in any way touches your story, think about what messages your characters have consumed. What do they believe, and why? What do you believe, and why?

In sci-fi or fantasy settings, disabled people are sometimes erased because society has “progressed” to the point where people with disabilities are no longer born. Please think hard about why this would be considered the mark of an advanced society.

Selection based on intelligence or cognitive ability also counts as eugenics, as does selection based on physical attractiveness. Why are these things important? How are they measured, and who determines what the standards are?

If your story involves controlling reproduction in specific populations, think about why this is. Controlled reproduction has a very long and painful history for many racial and ethnic groups, as well as disabled populations and low income people. Especially if this is framed as a good thing, please consider what message this sends.

If complex personal features are or seem to be passed through genetics, please be cautious in how you write this. I understand how genetics works, and that it is realistic for some traits to be passed from parent to child. There are still situations in which writing about this invites speculation about the controlling of reproduction.

For example: If the child of a rapist is shown to be a rapist, it could be inferred that this behavior has a genetic basis. If the child of someone with magical powers has those magical powers, the same could be inferred. In your story, would this lead to the sterilization of criminals or the selective breeding of superpowered people? Why or why not?

If your story includes situations in which traits are diluted or lost because one group is reproducing with another group, understand that you’re introducing the principles of racial hygiene into your story. Be aware of this messaging. I’m not saying that every trait has to be expressed in every child, but the widespread dilution or loss of specific group-associated traits due to out-group reproduction is something to frame very carefully.

This Podcast Will Kill You is a podcast that is free on Spotify and has an episode talking about eugenics, which features a researcher who primarily works on and writes about eugenics and its history.

The rest of this is all sci-fi so I’m making a separate subheader for it

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is a dystopian sci-fi novel set in a world that has used eugenics to standardize and control the population.

Star Trek intersects with eugenic ideas a few different times over its many iterations, notably in the character Khan Noonien Singh.

In Dr. Who, eugenics is personified through the Dalek race.

The Dune series contains eugenic themes (cannot speak to the movie, talking about Bene Gesserit in the books)

In Ender’s Game reproduction is tightly controlled and children are “bred” for specific traits and abilities.

Gattaca very famously features a dystopian eugenic society.

THE WAR MASTER

Resurrected by The Timelord War Council during The Height of The LAST GREAT TIME WAR, The Master was given a new Battle Tardis, a new body- and an emergency regeneration (with a promised set of Thirteen granted upon the completion of specific missions)

THE MASTER IS ARMED WITH A LASER SCREWDRIVER. One he constructed shortly after being revived. Using parts harvested from a Sonic Screwdriver, and fused with his tissue compression generator- The Laser Screwdriver could fire a high-powered ray of deadly energy, compress targets into miniature-sized forms (this process was lethal), and age people to death. Along with this, it was armed with the typical components The Sonic Screwdriver had- allowing him to hack and lockpick doors, as well as scan things. Extending the Barrel increased the power of the selected mode.

THE MASTER IS PAIRED WITH ARLECCHINO, The Fourth Harbinger ( @lunaetis ) As well as given a new Battle Tardis. As an experiment, The Timelord war council preprogrammed The Master's Chameleon circuit (in an attempt to see if more races would be receptive to timelord interference if they thought The Master- who... was intended to be a timelord agent was The Doctor.) Into the shape of a faulty Police Box- meaning That The Master is unintentionally impersonating The Doctor.

The Master was able to learn about Teyvat through Arlecchino, who filled him in on the history and mechanics of her home planet (as The Doctor discovered it whilst The Master was dead.) When he was assigned his mission to terminate The Doctor (who was stranded in a parallel universe) he visited The Alternate Teyvat numerous times, disrupting its history.

creating sprites in unreal engine

made a sprite sheet in photoshop, by importing my sprites into the same canvas. I kept the height to 16px however to fit the 7 seven sprites, I had to do 16 x 7, which is 112px. This is for the width, so my canvas is 112 x 16

Imported the sprite sheet into the content drawer in unreal engine

To get the grid in photoshop, so you can create the sprite sheet (like this:)

You first need to go to edit -> Preferences -> Guides, Grid & Slices. This will open up a menu that lets you configure the grid.

you then need to configure the grid, by changes the grid line to the size of your canvas, changing the colour of your grid and setting to subdivisions to 2

after saving this, you need to go to "view" and select show, then select grid

To get rid of the background, I had to right click on the sprite sheet, go to sprite actions and Apply Paper2D Texture Settings. Now, the sprite has a checkered background and is now a PNG

when the sprite sheet is opened in unreal engine, it looks like this:

To turn each sprite into its individual asset, you need to right click the sprite sheet asset, then go to sprite actions -> extract sprites

this menu will then pop up:

by default, the sprite extract be set to automatic, you want to change this to 'grid'

You will also need to change the size to the original canvas size, for me, 16x16

once you do that, they should all be extracted and you will see it in your content drawer, as shown here:

I started replacing the normal assets with the sprites

To do this, I deleted the cube inside and added a PaperSprite. I then put in the coin sprite to represent the score block

I then had to decrease the size of the collision box to fit the size of the coin

For the player, I added the paper sprite and resized the collision box, however you cannot delete the default model in place for the character.

So to hide it, I set the player model to be invisible, by unticking the visible box

Due to the character not turning instantly when going the other direction, I increased the rotation speed to it looks more smooth

Set motion blue to 0, so it appears more smooth when the character turns

making animations for the sprites using photoshops timeline

To save something as a gif, you need to go to file -> export -> Save for Web (legacy)

Once the menu is open, you will need to increase the size of the sprite so you can actually see it. Then you need to change the quality to Nearest Neighbor otherwise the quality will be really poor

And there it is. I didn't expect Square Enix to release information like this so soon, but that timing is interesting. Between the cancelled titles, and Nintendo saying when they're going to announce the Switch's successor. (And the timeline that they'll be implementing these plans...)

Multi-platform being highlighted in this would be a given. Fresher hardware on the next Nintendo console means the games will keep up a little better and have more ~fidelity~. I know how important that is to SQEX. But I also can't help but think they realized how well their own multi-plat and exclusive Switch titles were doing. It would be silly and remiss to neglect the successor. And while I don't think X-box sales are going to have any kind of impact on software in any region, it really doesn't hurt to include them more often. (Presumably? Maybe it is that expensive.)

"focusing its development efforts and investments on titles with substantial potential to be loved by customers for years" This may be fluff and amount to nothing, but I dearly hope they mean it. I hope they deliver. One thing that saddens me the most about the changes in SQEX and Bandai Namco lately, is simply how boring they've become. Bandai treating the Namco titles how they do is one thing, but Square Enix is so baffling. FF has been drained of identity, SaGa struggles for scraps, Mana and Star Ocean are in a wayward space. Anything else pre-PS2 and not those titles really doesn't get any acknowledgement. But each of those properties is so beloved now because of a robust legacy of beloved titles. Even the least beloved games along them still has a sizable and devout fanbase. But newer FF entires don't do anything to build on the franchise in a meaningful way. I don't think XV and XVI are worthless, but they also just fall short of really delivering what keeps FF going strong in my mind. I have to wonder if they've really sat down and thought about the longevity of their older titles and characters. The only exception lately is Asano's works. He's somehow managed to use nostalgia to create something fresh with the Bravely and Octopath series, and has created two new brands and franchises with it that already show enduring love of customers for years.

(And celebrating old stuff in some ways.) I sincerely hope we see them also use their backlog of other titles and IPs. I'm super elated Chrono Cross got a remaster, but where in the world is Chrono Trigger? That should have had some sort of port at the height of Another Eden's popularity and a tie-in. I'd love for Dewprism to come back! Some things won't move much now probably, but they really are sitting on a potential treasure trove.

And if that's what they're alluding to a little more here, that's only wise. Hard to say completely, but I am curious what internal shifts will happen and what consumers will be able to see of it.

That sounds amazing on paper, and I hope it's carried out well. It's not as though everything sounded perfect all the time under Sakaguchi's management, but I do think their philosophy at the time (and in a way, the whimsy) helped them cultivate their incredible library to what it is now. Back in the day, people were given a lot of freedom to create, even while being forced on a project. But they also had so much room to grow and were being allowed to do things while also being taught things. It just doesn't sound like Square Enix does that anymore. Even Nomura said they have a hard time keeping (new) talent. I think part of that is probably the Rock Star Syndrome that always plagued the company, but was amplified after people like Sakaguchi kept leaving and leaving. Not enough people were reigned in. But Square back in the day was on a roll, and I think if they bother to nurture and cultivate some good in-house talent now, and especially do so on the creative front as much as the technical (and let them bleed over into each other!), they'd be able to repliate their previous success.
