Pictures from my visit to Yasaka Shrine. It is considered the main shrine that Geiko and Maiko visit and is the shrine celebrated during the Gion Festival.

One of my favorite places there is the little shrine to Ōkuninushi no Kami. Shows him and Inaba no Shirousagi no Kami.

And finally the Goshuin, interestingly enough they write Gion-sha instead of Yasaka, which makes sense since that's the nickname of the shrine.

This very ancient motif might have appears with the tale called “the white rabbit of Inaba” where a bunny tricks sharks to cross the sea. Now, many japanese see sea-foam as rabbits happily froclicking on the water ;)

The Hare of Inaba ~ Why Oonamuchi (=Ookuninushi) was given control of the country

This Oonamuchi-no-Kami (=Ookuninushi), by the way, had many brothers, the eighty gods. All the eighty gods of the brothers hated Oonamuchi. Many of the gods of his brothers had a desire to woo Princess Yagamihime of Inaba, and when they went to Inaba together, they gave Oonamuchi a sack to carry and took him along like a valet.

Just as they reached the cape of Kata, they saw a hare lying on the ground, its fur stripped off. When the hare was crying in pain, Oonamuchi, who appeared at the end, asked him why he was crying.

The hare said, "I wanted to cross over from the Oki Islands to this land, but I had no means of crossing. So, I deceived the crocodile shark and said: 'Let us compare ourselves and count who has more kindred. Gather as many of your kind as you can and line them up from this island to the front of Kida. I will step on them and count them as I run across’. Then, deceived, the crocodile sharks formed a line, and I pretended to step on them and count them as I crossed, and was about to descend to the land when I said inadvertently, 'You have been deceived’. And the last crocodile shark caught me at once and stripped me of all my hair. When I was weeping and lamenting over this, the eighty gods who had gone before you told me to bathe in salt water and lie down in the sun & the wind, so I did, and my body was immediately injured.”

Then Oonamuchi told the hare, "Go to the water gate now, wash your body with fresh water, take the ears of bulrush plant at the water gate, spread them out, roll on them and put pollen on them, then your skin will return to normal and you will be healed.” When he did so, his body recovered. This is Inaba's prime hare (shirousagi=the white rabbit). He is now regarded as a hare god.

The rabbit said to Oonamuchi: "Your brothers' gods will never get the Princess Yagami. Even if you carry a sack on your back and act as a servant, I am sure you will be the one to get the princess.“

This anecdote is one of the most famous fairytales in Japan.

因幡の白兎（いなばのしろうさぎ）~大穴牟遲神（おおなむじ）としての大国主神（おおくにぬし）が国の支配権を譲られた理由

ところで、この大穴牟遲神（おおなむじのかみ）には、たくさんの兄弟・八十神（やそがみ）がいた。兄弟の八十神はみな大穴牟遲神を嫌っていた。その多くの兄弟の神々は、因幡の八上比賣(やがみひめ)に求婚したいという心があって、一緒に因幡に行ったとき、大穴牟遲神(おおなむじ)に袋を持たせ、従者のように引き連れた。

ちょうど、気多の岬に着いたとき、裸の兎（あかはだのうさぎ）が伏せっていた。兎が痛み���苦しんで泣いていると、最後に現れた大穴牟遲神（おおなむじ）が「なぜ泣いているのか」と聞いた。

兎は「私は隠岐の島からこの地に渡ろうと思ったが、渡る手段がありませんでした。そこで、ワニザメを欺いて、”私とあなたたち一族とを比べて、どちらの同族が多いか数えよう。できるだけ同族を集めてきて、この島から気多の前まで並んでおくれ。私がその上を踏んで走りながら数えて渡ろう”と誘いました。すると、欺かれてワニザメは列をなし、私はその上を踏んで数えるふりをしながら渡ってきて、今にも地に下りようとしたときに、私は“お前たちは欺されたのさ”とうっかり言ってしまいました。すると最後のワニザメは、たちまち私を捕えてすっかり毛を剥いでしまいました。それを泣き憂いていたところ、先に行った八十神たちが「海で塩水を浴びて、太陽と風に当たって伏していなさい」と私に教えたので、そうしたところ、この身はたちまち傷ついてしまったのです」といった。

そこで、大穴牟遲神（おおなむじ）が兎に「今すぐ水門へ行き、真水で体を洗い、その水門の蒲（がま）の穂をとって敷き散らして、その上を転がって花粉をつければ、膚はもとのように戻り、必ず癒えるだろう」と教えた。そうすると、その体は回復した。これが、因幡の素兎(しろうさぎ)である。今では兎神とされる。

その兎は、大穴牟遲神（おおなむじ）に、「あなたの兄弟の神々は、絶対に八上比賣（やがみひめ）を得ることはできますまい。袋を背負って、家来の役目をなさっていても、あなたがきっと、姫を得るでしょう。」と言った。

この逸話は、日本で最も有名なお伽話の一つである。

Hakutomon - Ultimate Level - God Man Digimon - Virus Type

He’s a little brat

Hakutomon is a God Man Digimon from type virus. It has an appearance like a young man with a rabbit shaped mask. It's neither good nor evil and tries to stand on neutral ground with everyone. It is often seen accompanying Sakuyamon and Kuzuhamon. With its ''Tsuridourou'', it lights the way of lost Digimon and wards of evil. It will disguise itself as a rabbit and ask passersby for a piece of clothing. If given, it will grant them a wish.

Design

Hakutomon is a relatively small, humanoid Digimon that resembles a young man with a rabbit mask. Its skin is light, and its hair is white. It wears a red and white kimono with Shide hanging from red ropes. Beneath its garments, it hides rabbit feet.

Hakuto Shrine (白兎神社, Hakuto Jinja) is a Shinto shrine in Tottori, Tottori Prefecture, Japan. 

It is designed after the Hare of Inaba (因幡の白兎, Inaba no Shirousagi)
