Skilled In-Home Nursing Care for Wollongong’s Seniors: Providing Comfort and Care at Home
As people age, their health care needs often increase, making it essential to have reliable support that allows them to live comfortably at home. In-home nursing care in Wollongong is an excellent option for seniors who need medical attention while maintaining their independence. This type of service brings professional health care directly to the individual’s residence, helping to manage everything from post-hospital care to chronic illness management.
Why In-Home Nursing Care is Essential for Wollongong’s Seniors
In-home nursing care is particularly valuable for seniors who prefer to stay in familiar surroundings rather than moving into assisted living or long-term care facilities. The comfort of being in one’s own home, surrounded by personal belongings and cherished memories, has a significant positive impact on emotional well-being. Skilled nurses provide both medical care and emotional support, helping seniors maintain a high quality of life.
For Wollongong’s ageing population, skilled in-home nursing offers a variety of benefits, including:
Tailored Medical Support: Nursing professionals can provide customised care plans that are specifically designed to meet the medical needs of the individual. This could include medication management, wound care, physical therapy, or assistance with daily activities.
Reduced Hospital Visits: With proper care at home, seniors may avoid unnecessary hospitalisations. Regular monitoring and early intervention can prevent complications, reducing the need for frequent hospital admissions.
Greater Independence: In-home nursing care allows seniors to continue living at home while receiving the support they need, fostering independence and dignity. They can still engage in their daily routines, hobbies, and social activities, all while having the medical care they require.
Family Peace of Mind: Knowing that their loved ones are receiving professional medical care in the safety of their home gives families peace of mind. Nurses can also communicate with family members, keeping them informed about the senior’s health and any changes that may arise.
Services Provided by In-Home Nursing Care
Skilled in-home nurses are trained to handle a wide range of medical needs, from routine health checks to more specialised treatments. Some of the most common services offered to Wollongong’s seniors include:
Post-Hospital Care: After surgery or a hospital stay, seniors often need extra medical attention to ensure a smooth recovery. In-home nursing can include wound care, medication management, and physical rehabilitation to help them regain strength and mobility.
Chronic Disease Management: Conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, or respiratory issues require ongoing medical care. Nurses assist in monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and educating seniors on how to manage their conditions effectively at home.
Personal Care Assistance: In-home nursing isn’t just about medical care; it also includes help with personal activities such as bathing, dressing, and mobility. This ensures that seniors maintain their hygiene and dignity, even if they are facing physical challenges.
Palliative Care: For those with terminal illnesses, in-home nursing provides comfort and pain management, allowing individuals to spend their final days in a familiar and comforting environment.
Rehabilitation Support: Seniors recovering from falls, fractures, or strokes often need rehabilitation to regain mobility and function. In-home nurses provide physical therapy and exercise programs designed to promote recovery without the need to visit a clinic or hospital.
Choosing Skilled Nursing Care in Wollongong
When selecting In-home Nursing Wollongong care for a loved one, it’s essential to choose a service that meets specific needs. Professional nurses should be experienced, compassionate, and qualified to provide a range of medical services. Personal rapport between the senior and the caregiver is equally important, as trust and comfort can greatly enhance the overall care experience.
Look for services that offer flexibility in care plans. Every senior has unique health requirements, and having a tailored approach ensures they receive the best possible care. Whether the need is for short-term support during recovery or long-term care for chronic conditions, skilled nursing professionals play a crucial role in maintaining health and well-being.
Benefits of In-Home Nursing for Seniors’ Mental and Emotional Health
Beyond the physical health benefits, in-home nursing care can positively impact mental and emotional well-being. For many seniors, staying in their home provides a sense of normalcy and control, both of which are critical for mental health. The personal attention they receive from nurses also combats feelings of loneliness or isolation, which can be common among the elderly.
Seniors who receive in-home nursing care often report a greater sense of autonomy and confidence in managing their health. Knowing that professional help is readily available in their home helps them feel secure and supported. This personal connection with nurses can improve overall happiness, leading to better health outcomes.
The Future of In-Home Nursing in Wollongong
With a growing senior population in Wollongong, the demand for skilled In-home Nursing Wollongong services will continue to rise. A Few Unusual Situations You Weren't Aware Of Required Legal Assistance
A couple of cases necessitate legal assistance to avoid future consequences. Apart from property disputes, you might be amazed to know some unusual circumstances can be so complex that they can lead you to stand in front of the legal forum. That's why it is always recommended to seek expert help, such as hiring an experienced lawyer to preserve your rights.
Here are a few situations where one must seek professional help. Take a look.
● Conveyancing Cases
The legal transfer of property ownership is referred to as conveyancing. When we say ownership transfer, we mean the transfer of properties via commercial means. An individual buying or selling a property needs legal assistance from a registered conveyancing lawyer in Wollongong to become a legitimate owner or discharge their rights gracefully.
● Testamentary Trust and Wills
A testamentary trust will is a trust created according to the instructions in a person's last will and testament. It outlines the distribution of all or part of an estate of the deceased to the beneficiaries.
Anyone who owns an estate should draft a will to pass their assets to their nominated beneficiaries. For such a matter, they should visit a top lawyer who is competent to create a will that is tailored to their exact needs and explained in a simple manner.
● Appointing an enduring guardian
An enduring guardian is an individual assigned by another individual to make decisions on their behalf. Over time, the appointment of an enduring guardian has become quite common due to the developing norms of hospitals and nursing homes. Such institutions solely permit a person's guardian to make declarations on their behalf if they can no longer choose for themselves.
Conclusion
Although these situations might seem simple and less destructive, hiring a competent will dispute lawyer or solicitor for other matters is important.
If you are seeking assistance for any such matters, reach out to Gamble Law & Estate Planning operating in Wollongong for immediate assistance.

Once you get this, you have to say five things you like about yourself, publicly. Then you have to send this to ten of your favorite followers (positivity is cool). Have a good one!! (And no pressure if you would rather eat your own face than do this)
Okay. This is going to be pretty hard considering I hate talking about myself which is something I am working on for my big job interview in September. Here it goes!
1. I love, like LOVE, the profession that I have chosen. I’m a nurse. At the moment I am just an assistant in nursing working in a high care nursing home, but in 6 months I will have completed my degree and will be a registered nurse. I get so much out of what I do for a living. It’s amazing how one small thing you do can make someone's day. It’s not the impossible IV you mixed and hanged or the dressing that took you an hour to do, it’s the little things. It’s the simple act of a smile or hello that assure someone that for the next couple of hours, your going to do all you can to ease their pain, because years down the track, they are not going to remember your name or what you did, but how you made them feel.
2. I like where I am mentally. I’ve had ups and downs with anxiety for years. It was particularly bad when I was at school. In my last year of school, I took a break from social media, cut myself from people who were hurting me and just focused on myself. It was really important for me to take a step back as that year was really hard. Doing my high school certificate was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I know a lot of people say in the great scheme of things it’s nothing but for me, it wasn’t. I needed everything I could to get into uni and that meant getting good marks. Unlike uni where you are doing something you enjoy (mostly), the HSC is filled with subjects that you might not exactly enjoy (maths, english, studies of religion, visual arts, hospitality and senior science in my case). On top of this, my Dad had a very minor stroke and need open heart surgery right in the middle of my exams. Those weeks leading up to getting my marks were the worst! I had just bought my first car and I remember thinking as I took the keys; I’m going to fail, my marks are going to be horrible, I’m not going to get into uni, I’m not going to be able to get a job, I don’t have a back up plan and now I have this car. So anyway, My first year out of school and my first at uni was great. Other than uni, I did nothing that entire year and it was amazing. Yes, I had no money. Yes, I lost most of my friends. Yes, I got lonely at times, but my panic attacks dropped significantly. However, a few things occurred last year since starting my job and this year that has caused me to relapsed slightly, but I’m actually doing great in the scheme of things.
3. I like the role models I have in my life. Whether they are celebrities or people I actually know; I’m grateful for their support even though most of them don’t know.
4. I like where I live. I live in Wollongong, Australia and it’s honestly the best. My brother’s primary school which I went to is next the beach and every morning when I take him to school I just think, wow, look how lucky we are.
5. I like the person I have become. I know that seems strange, but I am a completely different person from who I was 12 months ago and definitely from who I was 3 years ago when I was at school. Every now and then the old me pops through and it annoys me but then I stop and think; well, it’s happening because I’m letting my walls down to someone I really trust and that’s okay. I really, like really don’t like that old me and it’s not who I want to be because I hate when I annoy people but it’s always going to be apart of me. I’m going to a 21st next month and all of my old friends who I have not seen in 3 years will be there and I am nervous because of the amount of change (my nose piercing and my blue hair for starters!) but I’m excited because of how far I have come and everything I have achieved!
This was so much longer than I ever thought it would be!

Last night we watched a great little series called #afterlife with @rickygervais ... it’s a great series on how death may affect us, how letting go is vital, how connection is paramount & so much more ... this humours yet & raw look at life after u loose the very reason you get up for in the morning gone & how evolutional is vital. So many characters that spark different attitudes with in us, so many truths dropped through each episode ... as I go through the “death of who I was” opening into the space of what I am now ... I found this series to be a really beautiful heart opener to shift the mind from one “set” to a new view .... growth in life is inevitable, yet it is our attitude that makes it all the different whether it becomes “painful” or challenging 😥 as we all need to grow, being like an “autumnal leaves” (it’s the name of the nursing home in the series) 😉 & allow our nourished wisdom to replenish the next version of our cells as we blossom into our flowing seasons .... nature is one of my biggest teachers, yet clever comedy is also a place I find such beautiful lessons ... thanks Ricky for another great piece of art 💕💯 . . . #lifethroughcomedy #inspirationalthoughts #energeticmedicine #lifeswisdom #livingphilosophy #afterlife #attitude #selfreflection #selfdevelopment #liferefinementtherapies #nattyism (at Wollongong, New South Wales) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMTNhGigKhX/?igshid=1p6j89toga775

When nurse Angie Newman rushed back to the UK in July to see her sick parents for what she thought might be the final time, she never imagined she'd still be there. She is a permanent Australian resident having emigrated nine years ago, and Jess, who is a citizen, are among thousands of Aussies fighting to get back to the country after leaving during the pandemic.

Bringing Comfort Home: Quality Care for All Needs
In today's fast-paced world, time is precious and health is vital. So, the need for in-home nursing services is greater than ever. For those living in Wollongong, access to quality care at home is not just a convenience; it's a necessity. This article explores the many benefits of in-home nursing in Wollongong. It focuses on how these services bring comfort, dignity, and expert care to your doorstep.
The Growing Demand for In-Home Nursing in Wollongong
As Australia's population ages and the demand for healthcare services increases, the need for in-home nursing has grown exponentially. Wollongong, a vibrant coastal city with a diverse population, is no exception. Whether it's for the elderly, people recovering from surgery, or those with chronic illnesses, in-home nursing offers a level of care that is both personalised and convenient.
What Is In-Home Nursing?
In-home nursing involves professional healthcare services provided in the comfort of your own home. These services are delivered by registered nurses, enrolled nurses, or trained caregivers who specialise in various aspects of healthcare. From wound care and medication management to physical therapy and post-operative care, in-home nursing encompasses a wide range of services tailored to meet individual needs.
Benefits of In-Home Nursing
1. Personalised Care
One of the most significant advantages of in-home nursing in Wollongong is the ability to receive personalised care. Unlike in a hospital or aged care facility, in-home nursing allows for one-on-one attention, ensuring that the patient's specific needs are met. This level of personalised care can lead to better health outcomes and a higher quality of life.
2. Comfort and Convenience
There's no place like home, especially when you're unwell or recovering from surgery. In-home nursing allows patients to receive the care they need in the comfort and familiarity of their own surroundings. This not only enhances the healing process but also reduces the stress and anxiety often associated with hospital stays.
3. Cost-Effective Solution
In many cases, in-home nursing can be a more cost-effective solution compared to extended hospital stays or moving into a residential care facility. Patients can receive the same level of care, if not better, at a fraction of the cost, making it an attractive option for many families.
4. Maintaining Independence
For many elderly individuals, the thought of losing their independence is daunting. In-home nursing allows them to remain in their own homes, surrounded by their personal belongings and memories, while still receiving the care they need. This can significantly enhance their quality of life and well-being.
5. Family Involvement
In-home nursing enables family members to be more involved in the care process. They can stay informed about their loved one's condition and participate in care decisions. This collaborative approach ensures that the patient's needs are fully understood and met.
Who Can Benefit from In-Home Nursing?
In-home nursing in Wollongong is suitable for a wide range of individuals, including:
Elderly individuals who need assistance with daily activities or medical care.
Post-operative patients recovering from surgery.
People with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, or respiratory conditions.
Patients requiring palliative care who wish to spend their final days in the comfort of their own homes.
The Role of Technology in In-Home Nursing
Advancements in technology have revolutionised the way healthcare is delivered, and in-home nursing is no exception. With the advent of telehealth and remote monitoring tools, nurses can now provide care more efficiently and effectively. Patients can have virtual consultations with healthcare professionals, monitor their vital signs from home, and receive timely interventions when needed. This integration of technology enhances the overall quality of care and ensures that patients receive the best possible outcomes.
Finding the Right In-Home Nursing Service in Wollongong
Choosing the right in-home nursing service is crucial to ensuring that you or your loved one receives the highest standard of care. When looking for a provider in Wollongong, consider the following factors:
1. Qualifications and Experience
Ensure that the nursing staff are fully qualified and experienced in providing the specific care required. Look for providers that employ registered nurses and have a track record of delivering high-quality care.
2. Range of Services
Different patients have different needs, so it's essential to choose a provider that offers a comprehensive range of services. Whether it's wound care, medication management, or palliative care, the provider should be able to cater to all your needs.
3. Reputation
Word of mouth and online reviews can provide valuable insights into the reputation of a service provider. Choose a provider with a strong reputation for delivering compassionate and professional care.
4. Flexibility and Availability
Healthcare needs can change rapidly, so it's important to choose a provider that offers flexible services and is available when needed. Whether it's a short-term need or ongoing care, the provider should be able to accommodate your requirements.
The Future of In-Home Nursing in Wollongong
The future of in-home nursing in Wollongong looks promising as more people recognise the benefits of receiving care at home. With an ageing population and increasing healthcare needs, the demand for these services is expected to continue growing. Innovations in technology, combined with a focus on personalised care, will likely drive the evolution of in-home nursing, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care in the comfort of their own homes.
Conclusion
In-home nursing in Wollongong offers a unique and invaluable service that brings quality care right to your doorstep. By choosing in-home nursing, patients can enjoy the benefits of personalised care, comfort, convenience, and cost savings, all while maintaining their independence. As the demand for these services continues to grow, in-home nursing is set to play a crucial role in the future of healthcare in Wollongong, ensuring that all individuals receive the care they need, when and where they need it most.

HIFU Skin Tightening Clinic In Wollongong Gives Advice for Affordable Anti-Wrinkle Cosmetic Injection Treatments in Corrimal
Skin and Body Expert Comments on Cosmetic Treatments Survey
A recently published survey on cosmetic treatments indicated that one in three Americans are considering a cosmetic procedure, and the numbers are similar in Australia. On the surface, the results may seem surprising: 49 percent of those considering an enhancement are under 45, and half of them are men. Shelley Stevens of Platinum Face and Body Clinic weighs in with her opinion.
Non-Surgical Enhancements Top the Bill
The thought of 33 percent of Americans in their prime considering going under the knife just to look better would be a disturbing one, but Shelley points out that that non-surgical treatments have opened a lot of options to those who want to improve their appearance.
There are a lot of ways to rejuvenate the skin that would be too costly to try at home, or that require special training to administer. Surgery isn’t necessary to remove little fat bulges either. Most men and women under 45 want to enjoy an active lifestyle, but it’s easy to become self-conscious about pockets of fat that stubbornly refuse to melt away despite a healthy diet and exercise program.
“Most people would prefer to avoid surgery,” says Shelley. “New options in cosmetic treatments that don’t require surgery give them an alternative option.”
Men Want to Look Their Best Too
Although one is more likely to come across articles on cosmetic treatments in women’s magazines than men’s ones, Shelley says she isn’t surprised that male survey respondents were as keen on cosmetic treatments as the female ones. And despite the survey covering US consumers, she says Australia probably isn’t much different.
Men, it seems, may be more reticent about cosmetic procedures, but they still want them. Shelley doesn’t see this as a sign of the times or of a dearth in masculinity. Men want to look their best too. There’s nothing strange or new about that.”
Most People Aren’t Considering Radical Changes
After studying the survey, Shelley notes that most of the procedures it highlights as top picks won’t result in radical changes to the appearance. She observes that her clients sometimes express concern about changing their overall appearance too much. “They don’t want to look like someone else, or overdone. “They want to look like themselves, only younger and fresher or enhance their natural features.”
According to Shelley, that’s what non-surgical cosmetic procedures do. During her nursing career, she herself became interested in non-surgical cosmetic treatments and attended and completed the only Cosmetic Nursing course available in Australia, by The Australian Academy of Cosmetic Dermal Science, a course specifically designed for registered nurses.
Shelley’s interest in the field of non-surgical cosmetic treatments became a new career direction for the next 10 years, and today, she is co-owner of Platinum Face and Body Clinic with Jacinda McKay.
To find out more about Platinum Face and Body Clinic’s services, you can reach Shelley or Jacinda and their experienced team by calling +61 2 4200 9468 or visit the Non-surgical, Medical Grade Aesthetic Treatments for the Face and Body | Platinum Face and Body Clinic website to book a consultation online.

[HR] Wynter Smith
The C.O.L.A was her favourite place during big lunch, while most of the other children in 3/4J liked to run around the fields, or play on the playground equipment, Wynter Smith, liked to just sit and watch. She didn’t know how the other children had so much energy, it was lunchtime, and she was barely energetic enough to get through the rest of the day. She ate her lunch and watched. Today was a special day, her mother had been awake enough this morning to prepare her lunch, she crushed the dried noodle packet before opening it and devouring it enthusiastically.
She was alone though now, most of the others were away or gone due to the Virus. Julie, Matilda, and Fatima would have usually been sitting with her, often they would talk about slime videos they had watched on YouTube, Wynter liked watching clips about Spiders, but the others didn’t like them, so she would resign herself to conversation about slime. Sometimes they would sing, Matilda was a poor singer though, but Wynter loved it when all four of them sang together regardless. Miss Helvine had taught them the first part of 'Bohemian Rapsody' before the Virus had started.
The school was just about empty, most of the teachers weren't even here. Her usual classroom was gone, and now she found herself in the same room as a handful of year two and four students along with the slight scattering of those from year three still here.
For the most part they had all earned their spot as their parents were 'essential', Jace’s father and mother were both nurses, Hannah Brown’s mother was a teacher for the High School, and Ishta’s dad worked at a grocery store. Either way, everyone here couldn’t stay home for good reason. Their first week back at School, Mr Jameson had had everyone go around the room to say what jobs their parents were doing. Mr Jameson had asked Wynter to deliver a message to the office for him instead, she suspected it was because he knew.
She had thought about her parents then and what they were doing. She could picture them, in the same spot they were always these days. Her father, with his glass pipe, on the lounge sitting in front of a television that only showed news about the virus. Her mother next to him, her eyes closed after inhaling the white fog.
She finished her lunch and left her memories to return to the present. She adjusted her legs, and ignored the dull pain on her thigh. She had broken a cup last night, and the bruise from where she had been hit still ached. She was used to it though, and pushed through the pain as she bought herself to her feet.
Needing to go to the bathroom, she found herself having to steel herself. She couldn’t bring herself to use the one in the main C.O.L.A area, the school was mostly empty, but there were still too many people around for her to go comfortably. She made her way out past the kindergarten rooms, there was another toilet block past there that was supposed to be out of bounds with the reduced number of teachers to watch everyone, but Wynter knew it was kept unlocked.
She made her way in and carried out her business. As she washed her hands and prepared to leave, she felt her heart shrink painfully and a chill raced down her spine as she heard someone come into the bathroom. Slowly she turned hoping it was one of the teachers, Mr Jameson, Miss Helvine, anyone. She greeted the stranger silently, her breath caught in her lungs. His whole body barred the door, and she became acutely aware of how isolated from everyone she was. She met his eyes, or at least where his eyes once were.
Maggots dripped from the open caverns of his pus filled eye sockets, still she felt like he was staring straight into her soul. His jaw dropped open, and like the all other virus victims, his mutated teeth hand grown into extended fangs like the stalactites in the caves she had learned about at the start of the year. His rotting, carrion ridden flesh squirmed and writhed with the insects that now called his corpse home and the stench almost made her pass out. It would have been a mercy if she had.
~
Wynter's father passed out, his pipe still warm to the touch. He had been a Doctor once, that was before Westmead had fallen, then he had been a Doctor on the front lines at the Wollongong Defence line. When that had fallen too, he had taken his family to Nowra, where the refugees had turned the small backwater town into a hot spot of violence, and chaos.
It was only because he was owed favours that Wynter was still able to attend a school. When her mother opened the door that day to the men from, what remained, of the Royal New South Wales Lancers, he was still blissfully asleep. The School, and most of the Jervis Bay Sector Three refugee camp had fallen. There were no condolences, just an order to evacuate, it would be only minutes till Sector Four would fall. The next refugee camp in Oallen wasn't ready, but it would do.
Wynters mother silently shut the door, she looked at her Husband, passed out on the lounge. She could wake him, maybe. Maybe she could even get him to one of the transports in time to evacuate. An explosion not far away told her it would be now or never. She took a deep breath and sat back down on the lounge. As she picked up the glass pipe, she prepared herself. She inhaled the white fog and closed her eyes. The screams from outside her door washed over her as she pictured her daughter one last time, safe, alive. A fantasy.

COVID-19 Drives Home The Importance Of Nursing
Dr Suzanne Robertson-Malt, Associate Professor and Programme Director for Health programmes (Nursing and Allied Health) at the University of Wollongong in Dubai, on the importance of nursing as a profession
Nurses are at the heart of most healthcare systems and are crucial to health promotion, disease prevention, and treatment. As healthcare professionals that are closest to the community, they have a vital role to play in developing new models of community-based care and supporting local efforts to prevent disease and promote health.
The World Health Organization (WHO) considers nurses and midwives as the cornerstone in helping countries meet their commitments to Universal health coverage. In light of the current world scenario with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, there has never been a better time to acknowledge the role of nurses as the first line of defence.
While doctors get much of the appreciation and gratitude, nurses and midwives make up more than 50 per cent of the health workforce in several countries. Of the 43.5 million healthcare workers in the world today, it is estimated that 20.7 million are nurses and midwives. WHO estimates that there will be a worldwide deficit of nine million nurses and midwives by 2030 unless radical action is taken to reverse the situation. Well ahead of this pandemic, WHO had designated 2020 as the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, to recognise the contributions they make, and highlight the public health risks associated with a shortfall in the number of nurses.
Nurses, armed with clinical supplies, are often the front line of care and, in some cases, may be the only healthcare providers in the area, especially in developing countries. They make a difference not just in individual patients’ lives but also in the community as a whole. Due to their sheer numbers and the locations where they often work, nurses are key players in improving public health outcomes around the world.
Dr Suzanne Robertson-Malt
Given the importance of nurses to a nation’s healthcare services, this is a rewarding and fulfilling career that offers young Emiratis a guaranteed income and sustainability. In the UAE, public health officials have urged more Emiratis to consider full-time careers in nursing. In 2019, the Ministry of Health & Prevention revealed that only 8 per cent of nursing staff at public hospitals in the country are from the UAE. Government initiatives are therefore in place to incentivise more young people to consider nursing their number one career choice.
The establishment of the UAE Nursing and Midwifery Council (UAE NMC) in 2009, reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the status of nursing and midwifery and acknowledges that high-quality nursing services are critical in maintaining the health and well-being of the people of the UAE. Its main purpose is to define strategic directions for nursing and midwifery research and to provide a structure and support mechanisms for the continued expansion and advancement of this field in the UAE.
Enabling the nursing community can triple the positive impact – ensuring better health, a stronger economy, and greater gender equality. While the first outcome is obvious, the others are equally important. While men can and do become nurses, women continue to make up the vast majority of nurses worldwide.
Becoming a nurse opens a world of possibilities for women, giving them the chance to receive a formal education, enroll in training programmes, obtain a license, and finally, secure a job and its accompanying income, thereby improving overall economic growth and gender equality in the workforce.
There is a proven track record of the greater economic impact of an increased number of women in the workforce. The International Council of Nurses (ICN) urges ministries of health and academic institutions across the globe to equip nurses with the skill and confidence required to be active players in shaping the healthcare landscape – to have their voices heard at both the organisational and national policy levels.
With four universities in the UAE currently offering programmes in nursing to interested students, the onus is now on enthusiastic young individuals to adapt their priorities to align with the demands of the country’s labour market in selecting careers that can truly make a difference – to themselves and the human race at large.

Global Talent – Employer Sponsored program (GTES) and Independent program (GTIS)
The Department of Home Affairs announced it will make the Global Talent program (Employer Sponsored) permanent to attract the world’s best and brightest. Australian businesses and start-ups will have streamlined access to the best and brightest talent from around the world with the continuation of the Global Talent – Employer Sponsored program (GTES), formerly the Global Talent Scheme.
The Government recognises there is fierce competition globally for high-tech skills and talent, and that attracting these people helps to transfer skills to Australian workers and grow Australian-based businesses.
The Global Talent Scheme will consist of two components. Established businesses with an annual turnover of more than $4 million and the start up stream explained below.

2018.
2018 has ended and I want to at least write something about it before I totally forget what this amazing year made me or gave me, whatsoever.
I remember I welcomed 2018 with JB’s family at their home. I was assigned at NPMC during that time and I was on New Year’s duty. I brought two gallons of ice cream and my very timid face. I was of course happy that I would not be welcoming the year in the office, but in a household full of smiles. This is actually the first time that I welcomed a new year in another family’s household. Nevertheless, I was super overwhelmed to be there during that time. The very second that 2017 left and 2018 entered, I was standing right beside JB. Thank you Lord for that.
1st Alumni Homecoming- Sir Bolanos is a member of the host class for alumni homecoming 2018, thus we were all encouraged to attend the event. Coming back to my beloved Alma matter gave me this one of a kind feeling of happiness and excitement. Marching in the hallowed grounds of Borromeo along with the cavaliers and being the last class in the long gray line made me prouder that I was able to surpass the rigors of cadetship. Another thing is that I was able to hang around with my classmates who I spent the best four years of my life with. I realized how much I missed them. We are now on our own ways, own BOS and own paths. However with God’s grace, our class will always stand and be resilient as one SALAKNIB.
On my 22nd birthday, JB gave me this little book of encouragement and inspirational quotes. It is tiny but the motivation that it can give you is enormous. I hosted a dinner at Yakimix with the close friends from NPMC and some classmates. A week later, JB flew to his first deployment in the south. It was his first trip via plane and our first time to be really on LDR. I remember accompanying him to the airport, seeing him walk through the gates and going back to BNS alone with water in my eyes. This is the profession that we chose, this is the career that we got ourselves into and this will be the setup of our relationship and of our lives for the next 20 or so years.
On the 12th of April, I found myself reporting at OCNS as ADC. Yes, it happened very quickly. I think I wrote an article about my gloom about the idea of me being an ADC to whoever. When I was interviewed for the position, I, of course, answered enthusiastically. I corresponded as if I really wanted it. Maybe because I was taught to accept whatever is given to me. Thus, the issuance of orders hastened. It turned out, I am one lucky fucking ens to be of assistance to this well respected, outstanding and highly professional officer. I did not knew then, but I am blessed to be where I am now.
One of the highlights of 2018 is when I got this schooling in Australia. This course was not originally for me, but who am I to refuse such incredible opportunity. My processing of the requirements became a lot easier because I am at the OCNS. After going through the procedure, I finally boarded Qantas airplane and flew for eight hours to Sydney. Their craft-superb; the airport-majestic and their English-very different (as expected). We waited for a couple of hours in Sydney before landing another craft for our flight to Melbourne. Again, one fancy flight to the number 1 most liveable city in the world. I spent a week at DITC for familiarization and orientation program. For five days, after every class, I went out to the city to not miss a chance to explore the wonderful place. Melbourne star, federation square, Flinders street station, Melbourne trams, Uni’s, I forgot the name of the river, their gigantic park, etc. I literally forgot their names and I am lazy to find it out in Google. After my 5 days, we flew back to Sydney for my course proper. That was in HMAS Creswell, Jervis Bay, New South Wales. During my 3 weeks stay there, I was able to explore the wonderful city of Wollongong, Sydney and Canberra. Thanks to the Jovin, my highschool friend who is a cadet at ADFA, Crystal, Teban’s college friend who is a resident nurse at Wollongong, Mr and Mrs Palenzuela and other PMMA graduates who became our foster family in Sydney. After a month of vacation (because NOLC was not really a course for someone like me), I went home with a thankful heart.
Being an ADC kind of made my year gone so fast. I go to sleep every night equipping myself with everything that needs to know for tomorrow’s schedule and I wake up every morning making sure everything is ready for the day. I survived every single day carrying my bag on my left hand and with my two phones on the right. Every day, I see my boss everywhere. Every event, I make sure to get a nice photo and document it on his files. I get schedules of the navy’s top 3 from time to time and every changes in the schedules freaks me out. Every Saturday, I do my laundry and have my uniform ironed every Sunday. That is basically what I can recall from most of the mid 2018.
Moreover, our travel to Cebu, Zamboanga and Davao became as easy as a travel from HPN to GHQ. I experienced staying for several times in various hotels and FOIC’s cottages. One of the good things on it is that I was able to pay a visit to my classmates who are assigned in these areas.
One ordinary day in August, I received a call from JB and I was beyond happy. I actually get that kind of feeling every time I see his name popping in my phone. However, during this call, I sensed sorrow in his voice. He called to tell me that his nanay came to rest. I was a thousand miles away from him but I can feel right in that moment the sadness in his aura. It is one of the rare moments. A week after, he came for his emergency leave and we went straight to their house- the same house where we welcomed 2018. It was horrible. His mom was there and so were other of his family members. The scene was heart breaking. I hope every one of them were not miserable because their nanay was gone, but happy because she is now up above with God. As for me, I am very fortunate to have the pleasing opportunity to meet her. I know nothing about anything because I am just somebody, but with the little time that I got to have known her, I can say she is an amazing person.
October 2018, we travelled to China for the first ever ACMEX. Another first for me, another reason to thank God for a very astonishing year. We stayed for over a week in that gigantic nation. Together with Maam Myla and some senior officers, we boarded South China Planes going to Guangzhou. We stayed in a very beautiful 5 star hotel in the province- the White Swan hotel. I enjoyed the bath tub and the Jacuzzi in my room, thank you very much to our Chinese counterparts. At the night of our first day, we traverse the mighty Pearl River overlooking the vast buildings and colourful lights of the city. By the way I also enjoyed talking to my PLA counterpart who like me is not very fluent in English. After a couple of days, we flew to Zhanjiang via their PLA airforce craft. We checked in at Sheraton hotel and again, thank you for the huge tub! Our trip to China made us see how technologically progressive is this country. Imagine a hundred drones can be controlled by a single person in a single computer with them forming any letters or image in the sky. Some of them can even deliver your food right to your footstep. They have big ones that can be used for transportation and many other features that of course were not showcased to us, because they are who they are. They also have advanced ships, planes and weapons that are nothing compared to what we have. From a personal view, however, these innovations cannot ever surpass a nation that has compassion and people who are mindful of others.
Yuletide season came in quickly. I had no idea how the holidays would be for me, but I knew then that I would be delighted with the days to come, undoubtedly, I did. Christmas party at OCNS was simply amazing. My boss wanted it to be for the children of the men and women of our office. Magicians, singers, dancers and other entertainers were rented to grace the party. Our gathering ended at night with the parents happy because their children were happy. The next day, I was the OIC of the Support Group for the Christmas party of the Hinirang Class. After all the stress, I was delighted for the appreciation we received from my upper class men. The HPN Christmas party was my last day for 2018 at the office (of which, I am so thankful for).
Before heading home for the much awaited break, my fortune never ended for I had a couple of days free to spend with JB. We went strolling to the mall, watched movies, bought stuff and had our picture taken at a photo booth. This is how our dates are like. Simple things but each other’s presence makes it extraordinary. We also had lunch with his mom and a cousin at their favourite restaurant. Simply great.
Like the famous catch line from our local network, family is love. Indeed, family is what makes Christmas special. I realized lucky I am to have been able to spend it with my family. Nothing can ever compare to the joy that the completeness of my family brings. We went hiking on the 25th and enjoyed each other’s company to the fullest. On the 26th, we went to a photo studio and our happiness was captured in frames. Afterwards, we had a sumptuous lunch at Hill Station. Mom and dad went to North Haven for their three and a half hour relaxation time and the four of us went to try our thinking skills at Locked-In (for the record though, we did not made our way out of the room, sad but fun).
We spent the remaining days of 2018 watching movies of varying genre in Netflix, cleaning the house, doing laundry, making fun of Lynette and attending masses (in compliance to mother dear). We travelled to buguias on the 29th for Buansi reunion. I realized that my generation is no longer the one that runs around the house or builds blanket houses. We sit by the oldies and talk serious matters now. Yes, adulting realizations. I and mom went back to Trinidad first hour the next day because my dad was not feeling well. Forever thank God, my father was born stronger than the carabao.
We waived goodbye to 2018 and greeted 2019 lying in the couch and hugging our pillows. No fireworks nor loud noises were made inside our house. We just thanked God for we are complete, safe and sound were able to be there.
So this was my 2018- full of things to be grateful for. I do not know how to convey my thankfulness for just everything. I realized that I owe it to myself and to everyone to spend the coming years working in every manner that I can to repay the every goodness that I have received.
And I, thank You!
