time to read too much into things but it's interesting to me that Fripp said two of his favourite King Crimson lineups are the 1972 lineup with Jamie Muir and then the 80s Discipline quartet, and specifically mentions the symmetry and internal balance of these formations. then i look at the cover art for the studio albums for these lineups and i'm like... yeah... i can tell it was on your mind

October 10, 1969: King Crimson released their prog-rock masterpiece, In the Court of the Crimson King. A hugely influential title, their debut record fused jazz and classical elements with rock music for an innovative new sound.

"If you ever wanted proof that King Crimson was a band in a hurry, consider this: by the time In The Court Of The Crimson King was released in October 1969, the band had been together less than nine months."

"The dynamic contents of the record, and it's equally arresting cover art by Barry Godber, assured the album entered the Top 10 on both sides of the Atlantic. It was Fripp's idea to subtitle the album An Observation By King Crimson, lending the five pieces an implicit concept while retaining a slightly mysterious edge."

"It was also Fripp's suggestion that there be no print anywhere on the exterior artwork. [King Crimson's co-manager John] Gaydon recalls Island Records being worried about objections from retailers. "Fripp said, 'Well, it'll be the only record in the stop without anything down the spine on it, so they'll know which one it is.' Which was brilliant when you think about it."
