the way wotb handles disability is um. not great. i think lasky tried to balance an empowering take (multiple times in the series a gnaw wolf's greatest talent is somehow related to/because of their disability, they just dont ever get the chance to utilize it because of Wolf LawTM) with the "accurate" representation of wolf pack structure, but in today's day it really just comes across as a tired representation of disability. and also i just dont think it was ever very good to begin with, because it was just introduced as the way of the world and nothing was done with it, beyond faolan's identity struggles (and edme's, later). and as far as ive gotten in the books, he simply escapes his problems by going to the watch, and iirc, he doesnt feel at home there either. hamish didnt, and says as much to coryn, all he'd ever wanted was to be an equal. which is like, fucked up! and could have been interesting to explore further, but isnt ever. instead theres a bear war, i guess

im not fully finished with my reread of wotb, so my opinion on this might change a little, but man. i think it was a big missed opportunity to set up what is actually just eugenics and then try to navigate around it by slapping a few "your disabilities make you strong :)" here and there on top of it. like! the macduncans couldve revered faolan for jumping the wall of fire, if shadow wolf was about faolan earning his "place" in the clan then they shouldve been behind him after that, his strength was recognized but never utilized. maybe they couldve gone hey, maybe its a little fucked up to send newborns to designated places to die like its an artform and then banish both of their parents, and if they happen to survive we let them stay but only as the lowest ranking member of the pack forever. its made even worse by the fact that faolan SEETHES about it! he recognizes that he's better than this treatment, he just gets used to it! its upsetting to see these threads just let go in favor of other plotlines, because faolan is so passionate of a main character, and horrible injustices are introduced and just forgotten about, because theyre accepted as the way things are.

so idk. i think that conflict is interesting and as someone with disabilities that make my daily life fucking harder, i kind of dont want to just wipe away all those parts of the culture, even as shitty as they are. but im not about to rewrite wotb or anything, so im just going to make some ocs and let them do it. theres some things ill probably get rid of completely (like the ember healing the watch, and the obeas) but for the most part i think i want to tackle the society naturally, within the story of the ocs. also, this doesnt have much to do with the rest of this post, but lasky loves to do "evil family" and its very apparent with the wolves, bc hundreds of years later the macheaths are still naturally evil! so i probably will be addressing that as well, in the way wolves move from clan to clan

i just felt like it needed to be addressed if i was going to start posting wotb ocs, since its just. well its just a mess all around

i have a lot of unanswered asks, lol.

i'm starting with this one.

okay, so, Lr stuff for Vylad, long post, yada yada, look beneath the cut. also, this only applies to LR, not my MyS rewrite, in which Ro'Meave family dynamics are Very Different.

this isn't very eloquent bc im on new meds so sorry about that. just a bit tired, can't focus.

tw, sk stuff, vague references to violence.

Something i want to preface about the Ro'Meaves is that the Ro'Bros are not the only Ro'Meave children. They are the eldest three, and often only ever really the ones acknowledged by their parents, but they're not the only children. Once Garte became invested in the concept of taking over Ru'Aun, he insisted on having as many heirs as possible, and as he only saw Garroth as a viable heir, he did have others. These children were all, however, raised seperate by nurses and nannies, only Garroth, Zane and Vylad were raised by their mother. so they didn't impact the brothers much.

Vylad was Zianna's only lovechild, her eldest two born out of obligation moreso than genuine affection to her husband (Zianna and Garte's marriage was an arranged affair), and so he was, by default, her favourite. Zianna felt very guilty for this, of course, but Garroth and Zane were GARTE's sons, the sons of house Ro'Meave, of O'Khasis, and Vylad was simply hers. Whilst the eldest two got to learn politics and such from tutors their father paid, Zianna would teach Vylad art and music and dance. Sure, they were skills moreso associated with women, but if Vylad was her son, he would raise her as she saw fit. The pair were practically inseperable for most of Vylad's early life, and even as he got older, they were often found together.

This got much of Zane's envy, as he was meant to be their mother's favourite. He was named after her, he was the son who bore the most resemblance to her, and after everything with Vylad, no one was ever quite sure that Zane was Garte's son. Vylad had another parent somewhere, but Zane only had Zianna, and he needed to be her favourite. This didn't matter much when they were kids, since Zane was rather sickly, and so Zianna and Vylad were both often there to tend to him, but when he was older, and had the attention of physicians and nurses instead, he was slightly more bitter, and it drove a wedge between him and Vylad.

Vylad first found out he was a bastard as a result of this bitterness. Zane had started to vy for Garte's attention instead, and as such was subject to one of his father's drunken rambles about 'family embarassments'. to deflect from the sections of his rant about himself, Zane instead focused on the accusations that Vylad was a product of adultery, and Zianna was avoidant but honest when Vylad asked her. None of them had really pieced together that Vylad wasn't their full-brother as Garroth and Zane themselves looked so different from eachother, and tanned skin and curly hair wasn't uncommon among Ro'Meaves, but once they knew it was obvious it was true.

Vylad ended up being a bit of a bard, sneaking out to go and play in taverns, sneaking down to the fighting pits with katelyn to pick pocket and start brawls among the viewers. He was just sort of... a normal teenager.

I won't go too much into what home life was like for the Ro'Meave kids, or into the other heirs that Garte produced, because honestly idk if i'm awake enough to approach that subject as... delicately as it may require.

but, when it comes to how Vylad became an Sk, we have to turn to zane.

I won't go too much into what happened, since it is a weirdly Zane-centric event, despite it being Vylad's death. Also would require trigger warnings i, again, am too tired to delve into rn. But the important thing is that Vylad died the night of Garroth's wedding, not knowing that Garroth had run away, or that Garte had denounced Zane as an heir. He died thinking his family was fine, and the same as it always was, assuming that their lives were going to continue with Garroth becoming Lord, and Zane becoming a member of the Lord Council, as had always been the plan.

Vylad can't remember most of his early years as an SK, just that they were mostly spent in the abyss, and that they were bloodhungry. It's always a risk with turning someone more... magically-inclined. the more magic they have, the more sensitive they are to the change, the more beastly they become. He tries not to dwell on it. he spends most of his time hunting down SKs now, mostly those who gorge themselves, usually for money. It's not glamorous, but at least accepting pay for his kills keeps Gene off of his back about it, since Gene can appreciate the allure of luxury. He mostly just wants to keep moving onwards, focusing on tomorrow, and keep people safe. It's why he takes on The Wanderer as his Saint, as opposed to keeping the Matron, or even Judgement.

But things change when Vylad meets Avra. which is the prologue of LR, so

Interesting story, bcz i had no idea what twt was used for??? plus i had no social presence whatsoever, i still don't. ahahahaha i was gonna write up a thingie about the alien guns and the fleshy vault monsters (you know because my theory that the eridians experimented on them then locked them up to suffer gains more proof the more I play) but as i was looking for references of alien weapons some official concept art did it for me in one picture so BLESS

so ahhhh idk i dont think if the eridians were that scared of the destroyer that they’d use it to make a series of weapon parts. just my two cents

yeah ofc the only thing written is ‘relates to vault monsters’ but that’s still a connection. 

plus the black/gray rocks are confirmed to be “eridian rocks” meaning that those rocks we see on the Destroyer in its official design, on the guns, making up the eridian fabricator, and all over the temples and vaults are all officially Eridian in design and are not just random rocks they found and used while making stuff

the destroyer really does look like just any other fleshy vault monster, eridian rocks and all jutting out of its pink/red fleshy bits. 

even has the same style of wings as the rampager just less ‘finished’

i still wanna know if these guys were created/mutated or not. i feel like that’d fit a lot of puzzle pieces together. 

i would bet they were at the very least experimented on, as nyriad says the eridians were curious to a horrible level so them creating these monsters then locking them away in vaults would not surprise me in the slightest (as ive stated like a billion times before i know im sorry). esp. with the destroyer being afraid of getting injected with slag. like. why else would it be scared

then these alien guns officially unofficially being connected to the vault monsters just kinda seals the deal there. if you were so afraid of the destroyer eating all of you and it wasn’t (somehow) a creation or experiment of yours when the f did you find the time and proximity (without being eaten) to build weapon parts based off of it.

and... portal parts to another dimension where humans go when they die, apparently.

hear me out: one giant pink fleshy monster conveniently covered in eridian rocks and teeth with an affinity to the elements is a coincidence. Three of them? Two from one game (Rampager, Gythian)? noooot so much.

so im still convinced they just locked these monsters away and peaced tf out and that was it, they left us and the guardians to fend for ourselves knowing damn well what humanity was gonna do when people started getting fed to a magic portal.

speaking of magic portals, note that the Machine is not only powered by the sacrifice of the Eridians (for some reason), but also the Vaults we visit thru power conduits connecting all of them. And isnt it funny that when we attempt to use the Machine, we explicitly don’t have to kill anyone to do so. And isn’t it funny funny that when Tannis studies it, the first thing she does is make a portal to teleport us somewhere different?

also on Minos Prime, when the Guardians send all the humans somewhere else (probably aren’t dead because Tannis says they just VANISHED, not died), is it possible they were trying to recreate the use of the Machine to close Pandora since the Destroyer had Tyreen slip its chains? If so, then them teleporting all of Minos Prime somewhere kinda makes sense, since the Eridians clearly aren’t dead and just teleported themselves home, away from their problems. fuckers.

okay im sorry i won’t get into it i won’t get into it any further you KNOW i’ll be here for weeks rewriting my old theories. go check out this post if you’re interested in all that. changing the topic now...

regarding the og picture, i had no idea the eridian rocks were based off tourmaline! i’d been curious about what they were made of since they were so weirdly shaped ever since my bl2 playthru when i really got into the lore. so much to crunchy in my brain now

i wonder... if schorl is what the base rock is based off of right...

Core could be based on quite a few of those since it appears to be either pure green (in the mines of Ashfall Peaks) or a mixture of green and purple (perhaps core energy taints eridium deposits?) but the other three (Eridian Crystal (red), Eridium, and Moonstone) are all pretty clear to me

-I tried to kill myself a month ago and almost got sent to the big house psych ward/institute)…. (yes, i will make a blog post about this someday…)

-I finished my first day of orientation at my internship!!! It’s not my first day as i’ve been there since January, but it’s my first “official” day as I just got approve last week haha… oh oh oh!! Forgot to say… I WON AN UMBRELLA (THE GOOD $30 KIND TOO) TODAY AND A T-SHIRT (that high end cotton blend too… ;) )

But I am happy and feel somewhat lucky as I intern for one of the best research hospital labs in the nation…. so this blog will be my pretty studyblr notes and posts as I move on with my life as I transfer from my suicide attempt and intern at this lab to see if I’m interested in science research rather than medicine (which I am currently thinking about pursuing).  Let me clarify a few things in the past sentence/paragraph:

1.     I IN FACT DID NOT GET DISCOURAGED FROM BEING IN THE MEDICAL FIELD AT ALL AND MAKE UP SOME BULLSHIT EXCUSE LIKE “I NEED TO TAKE TIME TO FIND MYSELF.” I JUST WANT TO SEE WHAT ELSE IS OUT THERE IN THE WORLD TO MAKE SURE I DON’T LOVE *YES, LOVE* SOMETHING MORE THAN BEING A DOCTOR…. LIKE I KNOW ALREADY (plot twist: I don’t) but give me credit okkkk 2.     I AM NOT WORKING AT SOME RANDOM LAB BUT RATHER WORKING IN  A TOP LAB THAT OVER 45 OF MY PEERS APPLIED TOO IDK HOW I GOT THIS INTERNSHIP BUT FUCK MY LUCK IS GOOD I WON A DRINKING KIT/MIX LAST WEEK AT THIS FESTIVAL IM NOT EVEN 21 LOLOLOL my mom took it from me though (she was there :’( ) p.s. im 18 underage drinking is bad i don’t promote it.. it was a joke

So a summary of my overall life is : When I was little, I packed my life into two extremely large duffel bags and headed to the other side of the same city I have only been in when I was 6 to live with my mom as my dad was a crackhead…(All I remember at age 6 besides that is drawing very circular pumpkins for my Kindergarten homework). I have lived in this city for the last 10 years and probably will be for the next 8… kinda boring… i know. but… the details…

are not.

This blog will be a log of my day-to-day struggles, pretty notes, and what ever their can be lol.  To be perfectly honest, I don’t even know what it will be about because I haven’t experienced it yet. Well, I have… it’s just I’m too lazy to rewrite or remember them for your entertainment. But feel free to come back and reread what happens to me and my life…

So a summary of my overall life is : When I was little, I packed my life into two extremely large duffel bags and headed to the other side of the same city I have only been in when I was 6 to live with my mom as my dad was a crackhead...(All I remember at age 6 besides that is drawing very circular pumpkins for my Kindergarten homework). I have lived in this city for the last 10 years and probably will be for the next 8… kinda boring... i know. but... the details...

are not.

This blog will be a log of my day-to-day struggles, pretty notes, and what ever their can be lol.  To be perfectly honest, I don’t even know what it will be about because I haven’t experienced it yet. Well, I have… it’s just I’m too lazy to rewrite or remember them for your entertainment. But feel free to come back and reread what happens to me and my life…

4. Do you have writing habits or rituals?

I have the habit of starting a new thing before I’ve even finished the thing I’m working on lol. 

5. Books or authors that influenced your style the most. 

Rick Riordan big time, uhhhh maybe J.K Rowling sort of? I actually don’t like basing my writing style on other people’s works. But I’d say Rick Riordan influenced my writing style a bit? Or maybe I just think mine is similar to his. The sarcastic kinda way. I’ve been writing for years so I’d like to think I have my own style but idk.

9. Least favorite trope to write.

Not technically a trope but I don’t like writing characters that get together way too fast. I’ve been working on a slow-burn fic for OnS and it’s 16 chapters in and lacus and rene or only BARELY starting to have uh oh maybe sort of romantic feelings????

10. Pick a writer to co-write a book with and tell us what you’d write about.

i’d pick j.k rowling and we’d write a marauder’s novel

15. Where does your inspiration come from?

i will literally ready anything and be in the mood to write

16. Where do you take your motivation from?

if i feel even the slightest bit productive u bet my ass i’ll take full advantage of it and get writing real quick

if i’m a little productive maybe only 3,000 words and if i’m super productive 15,000 words there is no in between

When I was in fourth grade and going through some shit the best writing teacher i’ve ever had, mrs ferrier told me

“Today’s going to seem like the worst day ever and tomorrow you’re going to remember today as the worst day ever–and the day after that and the day after that. Until the next worst day ever comes and suddenly today ain’t gonna seem so bad. And in five years, you won’t remember this day at all.”

I have two, actually. Maria who’s like a freakish combination of all the spice girls and Axel who’s some sort of weird lovechild of Markiplier and Robert Downey Jr40. Original Fiction or Fanfiction, and why?

tbh like 842. How do you figure out your characters looks, personality, etc.

I’ll do one of three things–

Design the character first, then think of a personality.

Look through TV tropes, pick a few random ones, design a character based on that.

Or take an object, think about what would happen if it was alive, and I get a personality from that. (this one sounds stupid but i’ve made like four characters this way and I love them.)

I LOVE MYSTERY/HORROR SO MUCH BUT I HAVENT WRITTEN ANY IN A COUPLE OF YEARS ALSO I LOVE WRITING WITH A REALLY SARCASTIC OR NONSENSICAL NARRATIVE49. What do you find the hardest to write in a story, the beginning, the middle or the end?

Definitely the beginning and how to kickstart it all so things later on will be relevant or useful.

50. Weirdest story idea you’ve ever had.

It was for Maizawa Week. I tend to apply whatever i read to the fandom I’m in to create an AU–which happened to be Magnus Chase. To BNHA. During Maizawa week. And one of the prompts was an AU.

It was so. Sooooo stupid and weird and mostly me being stupid and going “WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF AIZAWA WAS THE SON OF LOKI”

I’ve been writing for years and years and years. I don’t remember when, but I’ve always been writing. I think NOT writing would change me. Lol.
