unpopular opinion: ra-im is by far the most interesting character in operation true love. the writers did a great job making her complex. she’s an absolute mess of maladaptive coping practices because of her unprocessed grief and the inability to fill the void her mother left. she’s knows she’s wrong, but doesn’t know how to get help so she can stop and that results in her sinking deeper into wrong doing. she is hurting and therefore pushing su-ae away despite the fact that she does care for her. with ra-im you get to see how grief and isolation turns her into the worst version of herself and that is why i am the exact opposite of the most of webtoon comments; when ra-im appears i tune the fuck in because i know the writers are gonna do something.

Naming Systems

For the humans and tieflings of Baldur's Gate (and half-orcs and half-elves who follow human naming systems rather than that of their non-human culture) Dwarves, elves and others will be done another time to save space.

Obviously I imagine you've all named your Tavs and Durges by now, but idk, I felt like doing this and maybe you've got random background OCs to name.

Sometimes people like to name their kids after gods. Like "Helm" and "Torm".

Chondathan

By far the most common names and surnames in Baldur's Gate (including non-human names).

Quite often people have no official surnames and use locations and vocations as surnames, like in real life (Blackgate, Cliffgate, Tumbledown, Tailor, Gardner)

Families of Cormyrean descent usually favour portmanteau surnames: Evenwood, Breakwood, Ironwinter, Summergate, Amblecrown, etc.

Residents of the Dalelands who move abroad often use the name of their Dale and shorten it. For example, Barantra from Tasseldale upon moving to Baldur's Gate would call herself "Barantra Tassel" and her descendants might continue to use that as a surname.

Dales: Archen, Scar, Tassel, Deeping, Harrow, Battle, Feather, High, Mistle, Shadow, Moon*, Sessren*, Tarkhal*, Teshen*, Dagger, Merry* *These dales have fallen to history. In the case of Merrydale, the name was changed to Daggerdale after an incident involving a brutal vampire infestation that led to a lot of violence and made everybody suspicious and hostile, so these surnames would indicate it's been a long time since your ancestors left the Dalelands.

Sembian families like to invent newer and grander surnames, in an attempt to make themselves look rich and important. This is less likely to be seen in the Western Heartlands, but I suppose it still may occur. Families often hyphenate their names so you might meet "Shandri Clarandal-Tarlroyal", or "Roakyn Dauncrown-Sardar"

While the following isn't exactly canon I feel like you can get a name that "sounds about right" by breaking the syllables down and shoving on a syllable that goes on the end.

Like with the names "Lureene" and "Arveene", the ending is "eene" and you get the syllables "Lur" and "Arv". Then you could get new names by taking, idk, "Kerri" and "Miri". Ker+ri, Mi+ri = Lurri and Kereene and Arvri. Mieene doesn't really sound right, but idk.

Alzhedo

The second most common group of names heard in the Gate, although early in the city's history I suspect Calishite and Illuskan names were more common. I note that "Jaheira" is likely an Alzhedo name (which makes sense, she's from Tethyr).

So, Calishite filial piety and subsequent naming standards are very detailed and specific: "A person is worthless without the identity gained by his name and that of his family."

A slave will have their given name and the name of the family that "owns" them. A large part of the population of Baldur's Gate are descended from former slaves, exiles and dissidents of the Calishite Shoon Empire, and would likely have originally borne names under that system.

In this case it's [name] adh [master's surname] So for example, Hamlil adh Tahandral. It's possible that it Hamlil had migrated northwards with her family that one of her descendants might be Miri Tahandral or something.

A freeman would list their title/s, their given name, their matronym or patronym, their family name, and their home town.

So if your name is Aseid, your father is Haseir, you're of House Dumein and you live in Baldur's Gate then: your full name, in the traditional manner, is "Aseid yn Haseir el Dumein yi Baldur's Gate," while if you have a sister, Ceidil daughter of Atala is called "Ceidil yr Atala el Dumein yi Baldur's Gate."

Adding your hometown onto the end is usually not necessary, and using it all the time is a sign of civic pride.

Diaspora, such as the Baldurians, usually drop the articles. Aseid Haseir Dumein Ceidil Atala Dumein.

Aseid may chose to use a matronym, Aseid Atala. This deliberately draws attention to her identity over her husband's which is unusual. It implies that his mother is particularly high ranking or infamous. Likewise Cidil may name herself Ceidil Haseir.

Clergy traditionally replace their family with their god, so if Aseid decides to go to the Rose Portal shrine and take up life in service to Lathander, he will be "Aseid el Lathander" or "Aseid Lathander".

I can't find much of anything about how naming systems are supposed to work for Illuskans.

Some don't use them at all.

Some go for patronyms and matronyms: -sson and -sdottir, so you get like, Malcersson and Cefreysdottir. These do not seem to be common. Some surnames are: "Kurth", "Helder", "Rethnor", "Stornar", "Rhuul"... This is entirely headcanon/guessing, but maybe they're patronyms and matronyms with the suffix removed? Luthin Cefreysdottir -> Luthin Cefrey?

Some gain names for themselves, self-bestowed or bestowed by reputation, based on aspects of themselves or their deeds that they're proud of or that give them fame: Nimoar "the Reaver", Ornar "of the Claw".

Most have surnames of some kind, some are portmanteaus: "Tenfeather", "Hornraven", "Windrivver", "Hathwinter", "Brightwood", "Lackman", "Stormwind", "Gnarlybone." This seems to be the most common form of surname. I'm entirely hypothesising, but Illuskan cultures value bravery and strength (particularly in battle) so I'd assume those are deed-names, possibly inherited from a famous ancestor?

Blending into the background is an art form I’ve perfected. While some people seem to thrive on drama, I’ve learned that a quiet, unnoticed existence suits me just fine. In a world where everyone craves the spotlight, I find solace in being the invisible observer.

The classroom buzzed with the usual gossip. “That girl has no self-respect,” one voice sneered. “How can she forget—” Another started, but I’d heard enough. I slid my earbuds in, trying to shut out the whispers, but snippets of their conversation still sliced through. “Behavior… something… small.” It was relentless.

I let my head rest on my desk, eyes partially open, watching Su-ae from the corner of my vision. Honestly, I had to agree with the whispers. How could she stay with Minu, who was more like a distant shadow than a caring boyfriend?

Just as I was drifting into my own thoughts, a commotion nearby drew my attention. Eunhyuk, with his usual air of confidence, was gripping another student’s arm. What was going on? I didn’t care enough to investigate further and settled back into my pretense of sleep.

Being a ghost at school has its perks. I get to watch everyone without ever getting involved. It’s a peaceful existence that I’ve grown to appreciate. At home, though, it’s a different story. My family sees me, sometimes more than I’d like.

I have older twin brothers, Jin-ho and Jin-woo. They’re fiercely protective, though sometimes their way of showing it can be a bit rough. They’ll back me up if I’m in trouble but won’t hesitate to tease me if I step out of line. Despite their tough love, I cherish them deeply.

Our family setup is unconventional. My mom is a high-powered lawyer who brings in the bulk of the money, while my dad is the stay-at-home parent. We’re comfortably off but not rolling in riches, which is why I sought out my own job.

That’s how I ended up working at a nearby convenience store. I slip into my uniform, don my glasses—my trusty disguise—and become just another employee. No one here knows me as the quiet girl from school or the youngest child at home; I’m just me.

Early March

The convenience store is my sanctuary. I slipped into my uniform, feeling the familiar comfort of anonymity. The name tag is the only thing that marks me out here.

“Hey, can you stock the shelves?” my manager called out.

“On it,” I said, grabbing a box and heading to the aisles. Stocking shelves is a calming ritual, a contrast to the noise of my thoughts.

As I worked, a familiar face appeared in the store—Eunhyuk. It was odd to see him here; he didn’t seem like the type to frequent convenience stores. Ra-im was with him, browsing the drinks. I didn’t expect to run into either of them.

“Hey,” Eunhyuk said, catching me off guard. “You work here?”

“Yeah,” I replied, trying to keep my cool. “Looking for something?”

He shook his head. “Just grabbing a snack. Didn’t expect to see you here.”

“Small world,” I muttered, turning back to my task. Eunhyuk lingered for a moment, his presence a curious anomaly in my otherwise mundane routine.

“You’re pretty quiet at school,” he remarked.

“Not much to say,” I replied. Why was he even talking to me?

He shrugged. “Fair enough. See you around.”

As he walked away, I couldn’t shake the flicker of curiosity. Eunhyuk is one of those students everyone knows about but doesn’t really interact with unless circumstances align. We’ve shared passing glances and distant nods, but our worlds never really intersected beyond these brief moments. I’m aware of his presence and his reputation, but our connection remains superficial, marked only by our occasional, minimal interactions.

I finished my shift, the encounter long gone from my mind. Home was a familiar chaos. My brothers greeted me with their usual mix of banter and affection.

“Hey, loser,” Jin-ho called out.

“Shut up,” I shot back, grinning despite myself. This was our way of showing we cared.

“Mom’s working late,” Jin-woo said. “Dad’s making dinner.”

“Great,” I replied, heading to the kitchen. My dad’s cooking was always a highlight of the day.

Sitting down for dinner, I felt a rare sense of contentment. Despite the complexities of life, I had a family that cared, a job that provided me with peace, and a quiet existence that was uniquely mine.

This is like if Ra-im woke up in a different world, her mother would be there, but her father would still be gone. Her mother would constantly be absent due to the amount of work she has to keep up with the growing economy so Ra-im tries her best to get a scholarship.

The people around them would still be the same, and there would only be a slight change in personality and perspective.

Ra-im and Eunhyeok would still meet through the piano competition thing, and their interaction up until Su-ae became relevant to their relationship will remain. It’s a world where Su-ae doesn’t exist and Ra-im becomes the main character.

I’ve just had this idea because I cannot, for the love of god, get Ra-im out of my head and her past with Eunhyeok. It pains me to think about, and I need to yap about it through a fic that I believe would have a more mature plot than the original.

Walk with me through the plot . . . (just more yapping)

I believe Ra-im’s mother would be struggling to keep a stable household, but Ra-im isn’t forced to work since she has a scholarship. Her mother finds a way to make ends meet so she’s able to live a life away from poverty, but not far from it. This brings up her sometimes cold attitude, but from it also sprung her fake charismatic side.

She would still meet Eunhyeok in the competition that he won, where he would later give her the trophy and the prize since he found out why she joined the competition (to help her mother). Her attitude towards Eunhyeok remains the same, still a bit cold in the beginning.

In this world, Dohwa would be given a “fair chance” since he would meet Ra-im while she has this cold attitude towards Eunhyeok. Although, her attitude doesn’t change towards Dohwa, it piques his interest. Slowly, Ra-im would learn to accept the two in her life.

She gains (I’m not sure if that’s the word to use) the “jealousy” and her personality from OTL through her classmates, who she knows have much more lavish lives. She’s kind of like Dohwa here, but she develops a lot of negative feelings and it would revolve around her relationship with herself and others. No jelly phone, no love points, just Yu Ra-im trying to navigate her way into life.

Operation True Love readers - for those of you who are caught up, do you think Eunhyeok (sorry if I spelled that wrong) or Dowha will be endgame? Or do you have any theories?

I don’t know if it’s just me…but I feel like I want Dowha and Su-Ae to be together? I rarely ever like the Second ML better but especially with Su-Ae’s novel I just feel like Dowha is being foreshadowed to be endgame? Idk if that’s just me being biased or not, but I can’t fully shake an off feeling I have about Su-Ae and Eunhyeok.

I think I like the chemistry between Su-Ae and Eunhyuk, but I just like the depth of understanding between Dowha and Su-Ae.

I just don't want Dowha to end up sad I think he deserves a happy ending but after what happened in ep 100 I want his happy ending to be with Su-Ae.

But I wouldn't entirely be upset if Eunhyuk was it.

Ra-im from Operation True Love

Unpopular opinion: I love her. Ra-im did things I can’t excuse, but that makes her so interesting. She flirted with Minu and convinced him to cheat because he was Su-ae's boyfriend. Su-ae lives her dream. She has loving parents, genuine relationships, and actually loves herself. She isn’t the conventional idea of perfect, but that’s because we see her for all she is. Ra-im sees her as this girl who gives and receives endless love. It doesn’t matter that she’s unpopular or that she has a small circle because she gets love from the people that matter: her family and friends. Su-ae actually has more friends than Ra-im if you think about it. She doesn’t rush for love because she doesn’t need to. She doesn’t feel the need to be in the center because she gets enough attention from the right people. On the other hand, Ra-im has a large circle of “friends”, but she doesn’t actually care about them. In fact, the only people she loves are her family. Her love isn’t fuzzy and warm. It’s prickly, and it burns. Su-ae doesn’t have many people who love her, but the people that do love her wholeheartedly. Ra-im is the opposite, in which she has tons of contacts on her phone but no one who actually cares about her. She has so many people, but she’s none of their favorites. She has to steal love because no one gives it. The only person who favors her is Su-ae, and I’m 90% sure Su-ae is her favorite too. She doesn’t want to hurt Su-ae, she wants to be on the same level as her. Since she can’t climb up to her level, she’s bringing Su-ae down with her. She loves Su-ae, but it’s painful because that’s how love is. It doesn’t make the world better, and it doesn’t make it worse. Ra-im loves Su-ae because she’s the only one who cherishes her, but she hates her for that same reason. Ra-im is well-known, not well-loved. She chases attention because love is too much to ask for. She is liked by everyone but loved by only one, and she loses it because of her mistakes. The reason Su-ae has such few but solid bonds is because she’s herself. Ra-im has always played the role of a perfect girl. She doesn’t know how to get off of her pedestal. Meanwhile, Su-ae roams freely with the people she loves. I don't love her because of her actions. I love her because she's so well-written.

anyways RUH sent my over 50 death threats that i decided not to acknowledge at all. i did delete them so i have no evidence. many of them felt ai generated, just generic 'your edits are ugly, no one likes you, kill yourself' messages. nothing really outside that, i didnt receive any doxxing/rape threats

BUT ALSO before ultimatehater was deleted, if you went back enough to her blog, you can see her original url was a bunch of numbers. before getting to hazbin discourse she baited scott vs the world fans, calling them pedophiles. it seems she just wants drama and rn she's making some bold statements in her new blog, that i'll be completely honest and also is just my opinion, i think she is lying.

I feel the same thing ngl.. i don't like to discredit someone's trauma but shes been copy pasting the things she's said to me and then sending them to other people unedited. I genuinely think shes a troll, and attacking random people with fandom blogs hoping to lure in and harm a child. Even if she's a troll and this is all fake, traumatizing children isnt. She's trying to perform a power play on these kids who are just beginning to understand themes like rape or abuse or racism or brutality and care about them so emotionally as children do, and trying to use it against them.
