全てが新鮮な時代

良いスライドショーがあった。古き良き時代・・・私が日々仕事をしている街の昔の光景。現在もその趣が残った所はあちこちにあります。

でもその頃は、暗黒の時代でもあるんですよね。人種差別もごく普通に横行していた時代です。

見る者の立場でその時代の話は変わりますけど、そのような暗い部分は抜きにして、当時の物は全てが新鮮だったように感じます。現在のようにレトロブームなどないし、発明品の連続でしたから。

I hiked up to Dry Creek falls on the Pacific Crest Trail for the first time, and had the Flexbody with. I had the falls to myself for about 10 minutes, and used it to my advantage.

Self Portrait with Long Hair | Feb 2024

Well, it appears I've arrived at the precipice of my sabbatical. Since this self portrait last week, I've cut 11.5 inches of my hair off, packed a backpack filled with camping and hiking gear, continued working 12+ hour days, and have done my best to fill the spaces in between with time with my loves. Leaving isn't really all that hard; I've been thinking on this seriously for a long enough time, and mentally preparing myself. I'm ready for the release into something different for a while. Admittedly, I desperately need it so I can hopefully achieve some sense of clarity, renew a sense of purpose and creativity, among other things. Sabbaticals are good for that, aren't they?

I'll try to post about once or twice a month, and barring some sort of spiritual awakening that sends me down a totally different path, I'll resume what it is I do. Be kind to yourself, and be kind to others along the way. I'm not going away, but if you see any posts from me, I probably did so while on a very long walk.

お金

やっぱり

日本では、モータースポーツよりも野球やメジャーリーグの話題が常に盛んで大谷選手の過熱報道も多いですよね。韓国でオープン戦の中、大谷選手の専属通訳だった水原氏の問題が飛び込んできました。

「やっぱりな～」（彼がではなく）と言うのが率直な感想です。動くお金が大きい業界だけに、必ずと言っても過言でない程このようなお金の事件ってあります。

それにしても本当に残念です。水原氏のご両親は、日本からアメリカに移住して日本食レストラン経営（大谷選手へ日本食の提供もしてたとか）をしていると聞いてます。日系移住者の異国でこのような話は珍しくありませんし、私も移住者の一人として彼のご両親の心配をしてしまいます。

これまでアメリカでは相当なご苦労をされてきたと思います。それから、水原氏の奥様もつい先日報道されてましたし、ご家族の受けた衝撃は周りのファン以上だと思います。

彼を頼っていた大谷選手もその一人だと思いますが、日本の有名アスリートが助言していた内容が、本当にその通りだよな～と感じました。大谷選手は、とても聡明で純粋な方だとは思いますが、それ故にこのような問題も抱えやすいと感じました。

” 聡明で純粋 ” が悪いのではありませんが、スポーツ界に限らず著名人を取り巻く環境って往々にして共通していますし、必ず問題が生じてますよね。特に地方で純粋に育って若いうちから有名になってしまった方々・・・

一方私の好きなモータースポーツ界でもあれこれあります。最近ではモータースポーツの頂点とも言われるF1界でも、FIA組織やトップチームのレッドブルがあれこれ騒がれていますね。真相は分かりませんが、大きなお金が動く業界って更にドロドロです。

昨日の日記の締め、人生もオーバーじゃなくって、「子育てのオーバー」だった（笑）
