Some Thoughts About Sibylla’s Cave
Hi! I just wanted to talk about something that nags at me in Winx. (Warning: I might go on a bit.)
When the wizards surrender to the Winx, they take them to Sibylla, and we see them in the next episode, with Duman’s condition having worsened. Badly. He’s feverish, moaning, and seems to be delirious. And yet…Sibylla has him lying on what is basically a slab of stone. I mean, look!
His head is not even supported! So not only does he have some kind of mystery disease, he now probably has neck problems. And back pain. And if he wasn’t running a fever, he’d probably be freezing. Could Sibylla not spring for a bed? Or at least a pillow? Something? He looks so uncomfortable, and I feel so bad for him, because he’s already so sick! I wish Sibylla had tried to make him comfortable.
And now onto part two…
Here’s the cave the wizards are in. We can see some interesting stuff…uncomfortable stone bed, tree that seems to be growing underground (maybe it’s just roots), stone seat thing… You know what we can’t spot? Anywhere for the other wizards to sleep. Now, maybe they have their own rooms. Maybe this is the Duman cave. Maybe when it’s time to go to sleep the other wizards go to their own caves, with their own ridiculously uncomfortable stone beds. But…I really can’t see that being the case. It feels like this is the cave the wizards are staying in. In which case…where do they sleep? Are there beds hidden out of shot? Or do they have to sleep on the floor? Which would probably be even more uncomfortable than Duman’s stone ‘bed’. And would make me think a bit less of Sibylla.
Also, are the wizards actually allowed to leave that cave? (This is putting aside the ‘they have their own rooms’ theory). We see them come to the throne room (is it a throne room? It has a throne. And it’s a room. Or a cave, I guess. So, throne cave), but they’re flanked by Rustic Fairies, who are presumably acting as guards. So maybe the wizards are limited to that cave. Does that mean they’re technically Sibylla’s prisoners? Or are they her guests? Or just the people she has to keep alive long enough for Morgana to calm down and agree to an unfair trial? (Being judged by the people who have spent the past weeks trying to kill you is in no way, shape or form an impartial court. Not even if Morgana says she’ll judge the wizards ‘in all fairness’. She’s biased. Very, very biased. She would not get put on the jury if the wizards were being tried in an actual court of law.)
Oh, and, final thought:
Where is Gantlos? Seriously, where? The Winx have shown up to explain about the supposed ‘fair trial’ they just fought Nebula to get; shouldn’t Gantlos be there for that? He’s probably just out of the shot, but it’s weird he isn’t shown.
Going off the idea that the wizards are allowed to leave that cave, I’m headcanoning that Gantlos wasn’t there because seeing Duman in that state just hurt too much, and he didn’t want the Winx to witness him barely managing to not fall apart, so he’s in another bit of the cave desperately trying to keep it together. Or having a breakdown. Possibly having a breakdown. Ogron and Anagan will fill him in on the situation later.

The Gecko, Stick Bug & The Bat
Happy Easter Monday :)
So, we made it to Agnes Waters, Queensland. Took about 5 hours. I wish I could say that the drive was more eventful than it was. But, it wasn’t. (I stayed on the right side of the road and everything). There were only a few minor U-Turns. I’m sad to say I just may be getting the hang of all this, which makes for boring commentary, sorry! Had some yummy fish n’chips in a nondescript town that reminded me of Merritt. Does that count for anything?
I do have to comment on how most everyone observes the speed limits out here. It’s a little spooky. You get to a passing lane and nobody passes! (Stephen did mention that they’re very strict about speeding - he did warn me!) Even in the city, everyone was very chill. No tailgating, bang on the speed limit. Feels like a bit of a Twilight Zone episode, truth be told LOL Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good thing. As a card carrying member of the Speed-Demons-Are-Us club, it’s been kinda refreshing. Just go with the flow. Chill, dude 🏎️ *Miss C.A. you would not survive!!
Another observation was all the signage asking drivers to pull over and rest. Tons of rest stops. Free coffee stops “Free Reviver Ahead” ☕! It’s like the MADD campaign against tired driving. Obviously people falling asleep at the wheel is a major issue (that and hitting kangaroos 😞) But I liked how they’re cute about it...
SIGN #1 "Did you know doing Trivia can keep you awake?” 1 km later...
SIGN #2 “What town is famous for whale sightings?” 1 km later...
SIGN #3 “Answer: Hervey Bay”
I found it quite entertaining & I stayed awake, so there must be something to it!
Okay, all that said, our destination was MORE than we ever could have expected. The very stuff fairy tales are made of!
I will tell you right now, the cottage itself is rustic (We’re talking painted plywood floors) and there’s no A/C, but can you beat that view?!? Our host was away for the evening of our arrival, so the front door was open. “Help yourselves to anything” he messaged us. My mind still wobbles at this world of ‘open doors’. Help yourselves? Walk on in? Mi casa su casa? Isn’t that just a punchline in a movie? (I don’t know if I could do it!) I just can’t quite wrap my head around the openness of it all.
There’s a strange, but exhilarating sense of voyeurism & child-like curiosity that comes from entering a stranger’s home when they aren’t there. But we’ve embraced it - full tilt. Put on some music, hung out in hammocks, made a beautiful steak dinner & watched the sun set. It was magical. And everywhere in this home is evidence of the enigmatic bachelor owner.. art, pictures, memorabilia, hand crafted furnishings (the carvings in the dining table are exquisite!). Everything with a story, no doubt. I can hardly wait to meet him (& his Border Collie Bindi!) in the morning.
Did I mention he has wet suits and is a surf instructor?? Well, well, well, have I got a challenge for him! (Teach me Obi Wan!!) 🏄♀️
And now we’re starting to see the wildlife. So many Kangaroos! And bats & stick bugs, and more geckos. We’re not in Urban Kansas anymore, that’s for sure! My gecko friends are providing pure entertainment as the insects are swarming to the sliding glass doors. I watch their hunt from the lounge, hearing excerpts from Lorne Greene’s New Wilderness in my head:
“The starving Gecko makes it’s way across the sheer glass, watching the moth with exceeding hunger.... ready to make it’s move”
Who needs HBO or Netflix? Well, that’s all for now. I am bound and determined to get these toes in some sand tomorrow. Wish me luck!!
