Bringing these wee beafts into my home is far and away the best thing I did in 2024 <3
hey honest question, did anybody have GOOD stuff happen to them in 2024? cause it was really bad for me and for most people i know, so it would be nice to hear about anything that's been going WELL for any of you. even if it's small stuff. just to know there's light out there.

looked through the inanna tag on this site because i'm generally not at my wisest today - my heart is (temporarily) not that of a sage to paraphrase a classic - and there's someone in there trying to connect her with medusa and no offense but i think there has to be a limit to being credulous. is the actually proven humbaba->gorgon iconographic connection not good enough. why invent this.

okay about the art school au
tell me if you have any bright sparkling ideas for this au bc god knows i would eat them up. like i said before i know johanna is a graphic designer now but she has roots in illustration theyre like siblings. she leans towards children's books, making up stories and weird wonderful characters out of thin air. her work is also very botanical - her doodles in the show are full of winding plants and flowers. she could fill a page with dense undergrowth.
gerda is a student too but she's like that one teacher that just LOVES fonts. she is graphic design, product design, interior design, going back and forth between the computer room and the workshop to lasercut something or to build a weird chair. she could probably run a company marketing department at 18.
i also said kaisa is an analogue photography girl. she doesn't really care for most commercial photography she's like a man ray superfan and probably gets snotty about using digital cameras sometimes but loves to mess around with unconventional and cameraless methods. she might smell like chemicals. she doesn't want anyone close enough to be able to tell. she has always been an academic nerd and it shines in her artist research, drawing from the most conceptual artworks and fascinating herself with what there is to discover about them. she would love mike nelson.
edmund is perpetually covered in ink, of all colours, on his hands and his face. he's constantly workshopping prints of all kinds, one of his final pieces being a gigantic woodcut relief print depicting mythical creatures with lots of iconographic detail (think luke pearson's norse-inspired patterns o_<). he takes print room safety VERY seriously. do not put your hands or hair anywhere near the roller on the press. he will get you.
ive got like an outline idea for 6-8 chapters depending on whether i do it as a comic or writing? comics take so much effort for comparatively less story coverage so it would be a big endeavor but i would really love to have it all in visuals (also i'm not a superstar writer?) it's so difficult because some things i want to describe like in written word but some things i want to have visual 😭 artwork between paragraphs could be good but idk how cohesive it would be and it might be a bit jarring to suddenly be reading what you were looking at and vice versa.. that kind of thing works really well for a memoir like alison bechdel's fun home but not so much straightforward fictional story idkkkk... i can like see some panels in my head but i also want to do long descriptions and idrk if i want to mash them together. if i really do this it's going to take some PLANNING
victoria is still crazy but in a much more creative way. she loves to discuss everyone's work with them, she loves weird and experimental stuff. she likes to make elaborate and unconventional sets, props, and costumes for her colourful multi-media short films. she loves any art that moves, and makes great use of audio, sampling heavy thunderstorms pretty often.
AND! if i included the creatures (as people) then tontu would be a fashion & textiles tutor. i shan't be taking questions.
also thank you for the inspiring tags @the-hilda-librarians-wife 😭 your hospital au was so awesome i might find myself doing footnotes like you did, describing techniques and stuff where it would be out of place to just straight up write it down in the story.. bc i am gonna get SCIENTIFIC with the photography
(if it was a comic i'm thinking about the fun I'd have with speech bubbles especially in a classroom/studio - one of my hugest ever inspirations is anatola howard and this comic is so spectacular for speech bubbles lol)

You know, I hadn't thought about this much before, but this could also likely a sign of Miyazaki's Japanese cultural influence, because traditional Japanese paintings can also be very busy, flattening perspective and depth of field to show a lot going on at once
There's always so much detail in every single frame of a Ghibli film ever, and I love that for them--makes them feel so full of energy, you know?
Miyazaki’s visual storytelling thrives on a sense of flatness that doesn’t diminish but rather enriches his worlds. By compressing the layers of his compositions—merging the foreground’s details, middle ground’s action, and background’s context—he crafts images that feel like living illustrations. Take the Warawara swarming with dishes in "The Boy and the Heron" or the jubilant feast scene in "Spirited Away" : both are packed with vibrant details, yet the visual plane feels collapsed, like a tableau unfolding all at once. This "flatness" isn't a flaw but a deliberate technique, pulling us into the frame as if we’re unrolling a scroll of visual wonder. It’s not depth that Miyazaki aims for—it’s a sheer density of storytelling in every frame, a reminder that 2D animation’s strength lies in its ability to immerse without imitating.

Hi! What style would you call your art? I know you tag them as tritone, but when I Google the style nothing like it comes up
Hey hi! Tritone simply means that there are three tones in the picture - black, white, and grey in most of my drawings.
Nothing comes up when you google "tritone" because this my own unique style! There is no official name for it, it is not part of a larger trend or genre, and you'll only find it on this blog or on my twitter.
Hopefully this is not what this is about, but please do not try to generate my art through an AI, or train an AI on my art. My commissions are right there and they're both very affordable and very quick.
If this has nothing to do with AI generators and you're simply looking for similar stuff because you want to see more artists doing something similar to what I do, this style has been cooking in the slow cooker at the back of my head for over a decade, but some of the ingredients (inspirations) that were thrown in that pot were formline art, inuit prints and sculpture (in particular the works of artists Kananginak Pootoogook and Kenojuak Ashevak), Nazca art (including the Nazca lines, Nazca ceramics, and this specific Nazca vase), iconographic vector art (especially Monkik's flat icon animals), and a lot of other stuff I can't put a finger on anymore.
#fishy asks#AI questions#asks#inspirations#Kananginak Pootoogook's Shedding the Velvet is one of my favorite prints ever#I don't need to give specific examples for Kenojuak Ashevak all her stuff is too good

Alex Shelley (c) vs. Josh Alexander, Impact Wrestling Bound for Glory 2023, October 21, 2023
Alex Shelley has been another wrestler that I’ve watched since his young and cocky days. He exuded confidence when he was the nominal leader in Generation Next in ROH, but his early career seemed more focused on comedy between his stint in the Embassy and his time in TNA, notable for the Paparazzi Productions and the Paparazzi Championship Series. It seemed like he had found his ceiling as a tag team specialist with Chris Sabin in the Motor city Machine Guns, and I had mentally filed him away when he seemed to retire.
When he came back as primarily a singles wrestler while still teaming with Sabin, I thought that Shelley looked slower but surer. The impression was accentuated by how Shelley worked as the veteran in control in his singles matches in the indies. He was solid but not spectacular, and I had again filed him away as a veteran who wanted to give back.
Shelley, to my surprise, forced me to reevaluate him again when he became the Impact Wrestling World Champion. At the time, I had thought that he won because he was a wrestler with ties to Impact’s history and someone who could steady the company’s main event tier after Alexander had to relinquish the title and Maclin proved to be middling. Instead, Shelley has transformed again into a confident champion who could be the face of Impact, defeating Nick Aldis (whom many thought would beat Shelley so that Impact would have a champion who wore a suit well) and Hiroshi Tanahashi (who is on the downside of his career but still brings a sense of mystique and prestige with him).
This transformation played itself out in his title defense against Alexander. Previously, they had faced each other in reverse roles, and Alexander overcame Shelley fairly definitively. This time, with Alexander as the challenger trying to prove himself after returning from injury, Shelley showed how his title reign had honed his focus. He executed his game plan against Alexander and stripped Alexander of his iconographic headgear and mouthpiece, beating Alexander with a vicious series of Shellshocks to show that he was secure in his power as champion.

The Importance of Icons in HTML: Enhancing User Interaction and Experience
Icon Design: Frequently Asked Questions Explained
1.How do icons work in HTML?
Icons in HTML typically work by using icon libraries like Font Awesome or Material Icons, which provide scalable vector icons. You include the library in your HTML, then use specific classes or tags to display the icons. Alternatively, you can use image files (like PNG or SVG) with the `<img>` tag or as background images in CSS.
2. What is the size of an icon?
The size of an icon can vary depending on its intended use and platform. Common sizes include 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, and 64x64 pixels for web use, while mobile app icons often range from 48x48 to 1024x1024 pixels in different resolutions. It's essential to follow specific guidelines for each platform to ensure clarity and visibility.
3. What is icon characteristics?
Icon characteristics refer to the distinctive features that define an icon, such as simplicity, recognizability, and symbolic meaning. Icons often convey ideas or concepts quickly and effectively, using minimal detail. They are usually visually striking, culturally significant, and can evoke emotional responses. Icons can be found in various forms, including graphic design, art, and everyday objects.
4. Where is icon found?
Icons can be found in various places, including digital platforms like websites and apps, where they represent actions or features. They also appear in physical forms, such as signs or symbols in public spaces. Additionally, icons are present in media, branding, and art, serving to convey information or evoke emotions quickly and effectively.
5. What is icon class ?
Icon Class refers to a specific classification system used in image databases, particularly in the context of art and cultural heritage. It helps categorize and describe visual content based on thematic and iconographic elements. This system aids researchers and scholars in identifying and studying artworks by providing a structured way to organize and access visual information.

@jaxmos very you I think
Beans.
My partner and I have a running joke with a friend. Every time he goes on holiday we increase the quantity of beans in his flat.
The first time we bought ~30 cans of kidney beans and hid them around the house like some Easter egg hunt thing but with beans.
The Second time we bought ~6kg dried white beans and hid those in various places. Nearly every receptacle that could safely hold beans became the home of beans. My personal favourite was emptying an oat milk carton, very carefully washing and drying it, filling it with beans and then just putting it back among several other cartons.
He went on holiday again a couple of weeks ago. Obviously there is an expectation of bean-based shenanigans. And obviously we have to beat our previous efforts.
Our friend has (had) a mosaic on his wall of the famous Marilyn Monroe Pop-Art by Andy Warhol. He made the mosaic himself. Over the last couple of weeks we have spent hours and hours assembling a frame, drawing up a pattern and gridding out a 70 x 70 frame and gluing an untold amount of beans to it. I have spent over 21 hours gluing beans to a frames.
For the last couple of days I ended up going to bed at 5:00 am because I lost track of time whilst experimenting with which types of glue works best with different beans (I now have *opinions* on this, y’all). The day of our friend’s return we spent the morning and afternoon grouting the piece and wiping it down and wiping it down again and wiping it down again because grout is just like that. In the evening we went to install the mosaic, just a few hours before his return. Here’s a comparison between the original and our clearly superior replication, and the new piece installed in its rightful place.

Personally, I hate ads, so this feels a lil gross
This is here cause I’m looking to generate interest in my card game! Board game? idk, it’s kind of in between the two. It’s called Drawn to Rule - read all about it under the cut. As of today, version 0.4 has been sent to the printers!~
You can play it for free through tabletop simulator, or print it out at home!
Join the Discord Pick up the files on Itch.io Just hop right into the game yourself with the Tabletop Mod
So, whats this all about?
Here’s the pitch.
Drawn to Rule is a customizable and replayability focused free-for all. A race to build the strongest character, and roll the most dice! With Legacy, Hidden Role, and Character Building mechanics, a totally unique combat and injury system, it is quick to learn and surprisingly in-depth. Every single piece of this game, except the fonts, are made from scratch by myself!
Included plenty of optional decks to add unique mechanics, allowing you to make your individual game simpler or more involved.
Drawn to Rule wears a lot of its' influences pretty openly. It's a battle royale, it's a hidden identity game, it's a character builder, and it's a drawing legacy game. There is a focus on the esoteric, unknown, creating its own mythos by what is missing, while still being rich in content.
The hidden role cards focus on making many alternative and unconventional ways to win - I don't want the game to always turn into a slugfest. But, I love a good combat game, and this one makes sure that it's very interesting, with unique injuries instead of health, and dice rolling that have both the attacker and defender both doing something.
The game intentionally incorporates asymmetry as a way to force alliances. Throughout playtests, there often was a clear antagonist: a character who's starting stronger, and will only get stronger with time. Forging temporary alliances is something that's really satisfying. It's a game that leads well into betrayal, and sudden upset wins.
Finally, the Legacy & Drawing aspects. This game is entirely in black & white, with very simple iconographic design. There is no card art, and none of them are named. Instead, you have canvas space, and name tags. Name your characters, and draw them up! Everyone's copy of the game will be totally unique to them. And, whenever someone wins a game, they have an opportunity to change their cards permanently, using those new cards in all future games.
Sound interesting? I’m looking for playtesters, and anyone who can give good feedback. If you want to get involved, I’d be happy to make you a card that would be featured in the game as well, and try to get you an official copy for cheap.
I’ll be running games, and it’s always a good time.

DAVID WITH THE HEAD OF GOLIATH
On the third Halloween Gift, I bring you a boy messing up with a giant head. What is more creepy than a young boy killing a giant and then taking his head off to play with?
The Bible story (Samuel 1:17) depicted here corresponds to the moment when, as a young shepherd, David kills Goliath, the giant, with his sling and cuts off his head to triumphantly exhibit it. The episode of tying the giant’s tresses to reveal his head has no iconographic precedent and is not explicitly mentioned in the Bible, making this work yet another example of Caravaggio’s originality and independence.
After Caravaggio, some others followed his exemple, here I bring you, a selection of great masters versions of this story, including three versions by Caravaggio himself.
- Guido Reni
- Artemisia Gentileschi
- Orazio Gentileschi
- Simon Vouet
- Alessandro Turchi
- Peter Paul Rubens
- Il Guercino
The painting is a new mesh by me, completely basegame compatible. And as I little gift inside another gift I have made the canvas into a mirror. You can get both the painting and the mirror here:

Crete, Archaeological Museum of Kissamos:
Dionysiac Mosaic Floor
[Found in] Antonios Skounakis plot (1985), north side of El. Venizelos Square
Mosaic floor of a large reception hall (9,70 x 8,00 meters), oikos or tablinium, oriented east-west.The floor had a 2-2,5 meter wide border on all sides except the entrance side, consisting of a) a meander with swastikas and squares, b) a slender ivy scroll, and c) a wide white band next to the walls. An oblong frieze depicting the return of a hunt is on the entrance side.
The composition follows an interesting iconographic program related to Dionysiac ritual. It is divided in panels, that are framed by curving and interwining vine branches, which mimic ceiling decoration.
The central figures are of Dionysus the Victor surrounded by scenes of a sacred hunt and a symbolic wine press. This mosaic probably belonged to the same villa as the Seasons mosaic (exhibited next to it.) It has many ancient restorations*, evidence of long use for the building.
End of 2nd - beginning of the 3rd century A.D
*See the presence of the three arms- the one holding the upright spear is probably a later addition.
Detail from a schematic depiction of the mosaic from the museum tag.
The entirety of the mosaic:
