ADVOCACY
As a college student since 2021, I have been advocating against acts of cruelty towards animals and promoting compassion instead. The importance of treating animals with kindness and empathy cannot be overstated, and it should be the guiding principle in our interactions with them.
Recently, a case of violence and cruelty towards a dog named Killua has motivated me to advocate for animals and raise awareness about their plight. It was heartbreaking to see the animal experience such cruelty, and the owner was most heartbroken. Therefore, I strongly believe in promoting kindness towards animals instead of hurting them. If someone is unable to take care of their pet or the animal is showing signs of aggression, they should surrender or report them to local authorities, animal rescuers, and other relevant organizations. This way, we can ensure that the welfare of the animal is taken care of and they are not subjected to any form of cruelty.
Advocating against animal cruelty aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It contributes to Goal 15: Life on Land - Protecting animals from cruelty contributes to biodiversity conservation and the preservation of ecosystems and wildlife habitats. It also contributes to Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions - Advocating against animal cruelty involves promoting justice and accountability for those who engage in such acts, as well as strengthening laws and institutions that protect animal welfare.
In the Philippines, Republic Act No. 8485, also known as the "Animal Welfare Act of 1998," protects animals from cruelty by prohibiting maltreatment, neglect, and unjustifiable killing. It regulates their transportation and treatment, with penalties for offenders, including fines and imprisonment. Confiscation and forfeiture of animals involved in cruelty are also provided for.
In conclusion, it is essential to be mindful of our treatment of animals, and we should strive to promote compassion and empathy towards them. They are living beings that deserve our respect and kindness. We should take up the responsibility to protect them and ensure their welfare is taken care of. I urge everyone to join hands with me in advocating against animal cruelty and let us vow to make this world a better place for all living beings. Thank you.
