This fic begins where NFNF left off, which is basically at the Mount Yujun mission, but I promise this won’t be a one-for-one retelling of TGCF. I will have a little fun toying with some of the early canon story beats in Part One like this and the Mid-Autumn Festival Banquet. By Part Two it will grow into something very different. Enjoy the lighthearted shenanigans while you can.

George falls into a fascinated silence, observing the Dream that stands before him with a deeper level of scrutiny.

The figure leans down. They’d be eye to eye if it weren’t for the mask.

Summary:

The problem with Pearl, Grian thinks, is that he never truly knows what she's thinking.

Not to say he doesn't know her, and can't make an educated guess, it's just— Pearl has always kept her cards close to her chest. Despite how long they've known each other, neither of them have ever been keen on sharing secrets; instead, they'd mutually, silently, opted to respect what was left unsaid and live only in shared moments without asking.

They'd almost broken this unspoken rule the day Pearl joined Hermitcraft. Almost— at the last second Pearl had swallowed her fear, her anger, the unmoored grief still swimming inside her, and haltingly told him never to disappear on her like that again. Punched his shoulder. Looked like she was about to cry. Grian had given her a hug and a half-hearted smile in return, told her I'll do my best, and they'd never spoken about it again.

Grian remembers those words like a thorn in his heart. Another lie, another broken promise; he's full of them these days.

"Slaying Adatok: The Paragon of Shatterpeak" is an unofficial dragon-slaying Dungeons and Dragons 5e adventure for Level 20 players. Players will venture into 4 unique lairs where they will de-power The Barrier protecting the peak of Shatterpeak Mountain. Once they climb to the mountain's top, they will get to face off with Adatok the Paragon, the Amethyst Greatwyrm.

This adventure includes a two pdfs (one normal and one print-friendly), battlemaps and art for each of the 7 unique locations and custom tokens for every named monster and NPC. As a Dungeon Master you shouldn't have to do any extra legwork to find assets to play your adventure!

Omen sighs heavily, putting a hand over his face and rubbing his sockets. "I see..." It seems I owe him an apology as well then. The nightmare straightens his coat a bit and huffs. "I'm sure you may have been able to tell, but Malice is.... Sensitive when it comes to those he cares for." That was an understatement of course. Malice could be considered near inconsolable when he was upset. The only option now was to let him work through his anger until he tires himself out.

How unfortunate to lose that au early... it still had potential, but I suppose I can overlook his outburst this time.

"Well, regardless, I'm sure you'll wish to apologize later. I'll make sure to have him see you when he has calmed down." Omen looks down at Evris, his expression softening. "...Trust is hard for some of us... I'm certain Malice understands that you had not intended to... hurt him."

"........."

"Does that sound good to you?"

So at some point in Agent 98-27-3901's life, he got on the wrong side of Better Living Industries' city mandates. He did something terrible, perhaps treasonous, and they magnanimously allowed him another shot at life. They wiped his memories, gave him a gun, and sent him out to do some good with the blank slate they allotted him. Regular meetings with a psychiatrist are meant to ensure that he won't relapse, and that he only recalls certain memories under controlled circumstances - because some of those memories might be of use to his employers.

The problem is, it's been four years now, and he doesn't think he's getting any better. That's fine, though. Things could be worse. All he has to do is keep his head down and he can carve out a tolerable existence for himself.

How hard could that be?
