Andhra Pradesh Suspends Top IPS Officers in Kadambari Jeswani Case

High-Level Suspension Order On September 15, 2024, the Andhra Pradesh government announced the suspension of senior IPS officers P. Sitarama Anjaneyulu, Kanti Rana Tata, and Vishal Gunni in connection with the controversial Kadambari Jeswani case. The decision follows allegations of misconduct and procedural violations by the officers.

Accusations of Misconduct The suspension order accuses the then Director General of Police (Intelligence Bureau) Sitarama Anjaneyulu, Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kanti Rana Tata, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishal Gunni of acting prematurely. The officers are said to have made arrests and proceeded with the case without proper verification. Details of the Investigation According to the investigation report, Sitarama Anjaneyulu instructed officers to arrest Kadambari Jeswani on January 31, 2024, through verbal orders. Following this, Kanti Rana arranged flights for the team and issued arrest orders without formal case proceedings. Vishal Gunni, who led the team to Mumbai, is accused of acting on incomplete information.

Charges and Government Action The three officers face suspension for breaching the All India Services (AIS) Discipline and Appellate Rules, 1969, and for misusing their authority. The action is based on an inquiry report from the NTR Police Commissionerate. Restrictions and Awaited Posting The suspended officers have been instructed to remain in their headquarters in Vijayawada due to concerns about potential interference with witnesses and evidence in Mumbai. Chandigarh, November 4, 2022: Four senior IPS officers in Punjab have been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police with immediate effect.

Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 11 police officers, including two senior IPS officers, have been conferred with the President’s police medal on the eve of the 75th Independence Day. ADGP Yogesh Gupta (1993 batch), who is currently the chairman and managing director of Kerala state beverages corporation, has been awarded the medal for distinguished service, while IG (crimes) Gajulavarti Sparjan Kumar (2002 batch) has been conferred with medal for meritorious service. A native of Maharashtra, who is specialised in dealing with economic offences, Gupta has worked with CBI and as special director for eastern zone in Enforcement Directorate (ED). While in CBI, he supervised investigation in Ketan Parekh’s stock scam case, corruption cases against income tax and customs officials, and Gujarat riots cases in which 17 accused were convicted with life imprisonment. In ED, Gupta handled major cases like Rose Valley fraud, Saradha chit fund scam, etc. From the state, other officers who have been conferred with meritorious awards include SP (traffic) B Krishna Kumar, SP (retired) Tomy Sebastian, DSPs A Ashokan (retired) and Arun Kumar Sukumaran, inspector (vigilance special cell) Saji Kumar B, armed police sub-inspector K V Ganesan, sub-inspector P V Sindhu, grade ASIs S Santhosh Kumar and M Satheesan Chandran. Other senior officers, natives of the state but serving in other cadres, who have been conferred with police medals include CBI joint director Manoj Sasidhar and city police commissioner (Jodhpur) Jose Mohan. A native of Ernakulam and belonging to the 1994 batch of IPS, Sasidhar belongs to Gujarat cadre. He has been conferred with a medal for distinguished service. Mohan, from 2002 batch of IPS and belonging to Rajasthan cadre, has been conferred with a police medal for meritorious service. Delhi Crime... This is a 7 episode mini series on Netflix. Based on the true story of "nirbhaya" rape case, the movie stars Shefali Shah as DCP Vartika Chaturvedi. A very honest and conscientious IPS officer of the Delhi police, in itself a rare breed. The two victims Deepika and her boyfriend are found on the highway, stripped, bleeding and in a precarious condition. The case is registered, after the usual bureaucratic tussle and then DCP and her team consisting of bhupinder Singh (Rajesh tailang..) and sub inspector vimla (Jaya Bhattacharya), amongst others get into investigation mode. These two actors are worth watching for in future. The candle light protests, the behind the scenes politics, etc are necessarily shown, since the team has to battle those, as well as the crude methodology and under budget of the Indian police system. Finally they have a break through and within 3 days all 6 culprits are apprehended. Jai Singh (Mridul Sharma.. Brilliant) is the gang leader and his acting his frightening, by the sheer apathy he shows!
