"Well your intentions have not been lost," Evangeline told Astrid honestly. "In fact, they've translated into your space beautifully. You should be really proud of what you've built here." While some people might have thought that Evangeline was coming on too strong with her compliments, the friendly woman had never been afraid of honesty; particularly when the honest truth was meant with positive and complimentary intentions, Evangeline hardly ever held them back.
"That's amazing," Evangeline shook her head in disbelief; it wasn't often that someone said something that really resonated with her in the way that Astrid's words did, but their interaction was swiftly becoming one of the brightest, most memorable conversations that Evangeline had had in Cardinal Hill. "My life has always been all about stories; my father is an anthropologist, and so I've followed him around everywhere with his work. We see a lot of different ways that people pass along their stories, and I must say, it's one of my favourite parts about all of humanity. To hear how you learnt - it makes me love the bakery all the more."
"Well I think that you're talented," Evangeline commented with a small giggle. "And I'm very glad to have met you! Properly, at least. I'm not sure if we ever met in the bakery, but to have a real conversation with you has been so very nice. Thank you for your company."
Home. The word lingered in Astrid’s mind, catching her slightly off guard. Had Evangeline truly said that Lilla Bakstugan reminded her of home?
For a moment, Astrid almost got lost in the thought. It was exactly what she had hoped her little bakery would feel like—a place of warmth and comfort, something familiar to hold onto. And yet, she couldn’t help but wonder if Evangeline’s use of the word carried something deeper, something tied to her own story.
"Tusen tack." She said softly, her voice touched with both gratitude and a hint of shyness as her cheeks flushed. "Thank you." Compliments about her baking still made her feel so humbled, no matter how often they came. "It makes me glad to hear that it feels like home to you. That is what I wanted when I opened Lilla Bakstugan—to, uh, to create a space where people could step inside and feel... safe. Like sitting in a warm kitchen. You can have something sweet baking och forget your worries."
The Swede's gaze softened as her thoughts drifted back. "I learned to bake from the women back in Mora. They, uh, they were the best teachers. It was not just about recipes with them; it was about passing down memories och stories. If my baking reminds you of home, then I must have learned good."
Her smile turned modest as she spoke up once more. "Men... talented? I do not know about that. I know only that I am grateful to have learned from them och can share what I learned now with others."

It continues to break my heart that people continue to go through masterlists and "read" fic upon fic and not say a word. Not even consider a reblog of it, just pass by with a simple like.
What makes the blow even worse is getting a new follower, and checking their blog (mainly to verify they're not a bot or minor) and see that they DO in fact, reblog other fics from other writers, just not the numerous ones they've gone through of yours.
And then what really rubs salt in the wound is when they're fics from the most niche fandom, for a character hardly anyone knows/cares about, and they still have nothing to say about it. I just know if it were me finding an author who dedicated hours to creating a whole life for my beloved character outside of the one small piece of media we were given, I'd be singing their praises from the rooftops and thanking them, and most definitely doing my best to strike up a conversation because how amazing is it to find someone else who loves that one unpopular thing as much as you?
More and more incredibly talented writers and artists are leaving this platform because of issues like this and it's honestly no longer surprising. Engagement and interaction are so tragically low and only getting worse, and it's discouraging people from wanting to continue sharing the things they love because fandom was, and should be, about the community that surrounds it.
Please, for the love of fandom and all the things you love, engage in some way other than likes.

"Hey," Evangeline began, speaking softly. "I don't think you're whiny, I think your feelings are completely valid. Just because your family loves you, and because you love them, that doesn't mean that you can't find discomfort or upset within the family. Particularly when your identity is different from a majority of them." Evangeline didn't know if she could find the words to soothe Ocean's mind more, unsure if those words even existed, but she knew for sure that she would always try her hardest for the sake of her anxious friend.
"Nothing sounds better than catching up with you," Evangeline beamed, and in the moment, her words were nothing but the truth. She hadn't at all been expecting to find her old friend there in Cardinal Hill, and so she was still absolutely buzzing over the discovery. "I have absolutely nothing on my schedule for the rest of the day," though even if she had, it was likely that Evangeline would have rearranged the schedule to fit Ocean in. "Are you hungry? Maybe we could grab a bite to eat."
Despite being so happy to see Evangeline, Ocean felt self-conscious now. He wished that he hadn't talked about the way he felt being non-magical in his family, and he blushed, apologizing, "I'm sorry to be so whiny. I know, I've got a family who loves me, and that should be enough. And it is, you know? But..." Ocean didn't quite know how to articulate what he felt, not without sounding like he was being a baby, which he'd already done enough of. You were right, he thought. It was only a matter of time before you started overanalyzing everything. That was the kinder of the voices in his head, though it wasn't always nice to him, especially these days. And then the cruel voice inside him hissed, She sees you now. She knows you're nothing but a huge loser. Ocean wished they'd gotten a little longer before he'd started showing that side of himself to his old friend. Sure, Evangeline was saying such nice things to him, and they made him smile, but Ocean thought his friend was likely only saying them to be nice. So he just shrugged and said, "Thanks," offering Evangeline a soft smile.
Wanting to push past this moment, Ocean said, "Do you want to do something? We can hang out and catch up? Unless you have better things to do." Of course she does, both voices inside him said. And then one of them whispered, Anything is better than spending time with you. And Ocean wasn't sure which voice that was, an occurrence that was becoming more and more common; those voices were starting to sound so alike.

Stoker laughed. "I am a tea person, yeah. I'm a bit of an avid drinker in general, so I'm a big fan of a lot of drinks, but tea has always been up there with my favourites," they explained, giving a completely unnecessary long winded answer, not unlike Stoker. "I think that's a perfectly acceptable reason to be a tea drinker," Stoker shrugged. "I mean, if you stuck to straight honey all the time I feel like you'd be more likely to get sick of it by now," which definitely wouldn't be a very good thing for someone who was so involved with the making of honey.
"For me?" Stoker confirmed, the smile already on his face growing larger. While he knew that Winter was kind and generous, he didn't expect a whole bottle from his best batch of the year, and that oddly touched Stoker. "Thank you very much, Winter. I'll treat it like liquid gold," he chuckled. He already knew that Silas would be benefitting from the gift too, which made Stoker feel hopeful that he could pay Winter back by sending Silas and his thick wallet his way with some business.
The switch up in conversation to the topic of Winter's accident was one that surprised Stoker so very much, but it wasn't unwelcome. If anything, Stoker valued honesty, particularly when it was honesty regarding something so vulnerable. "You haven't told me this before," Stoker reassured him. "I think the notes are a great way of managing that, that's a really smart use of resources," Stoker's words were completely honest, and his tone was relatively stable; he didn't want to come across like he was pitying Winter in a way that would make him feel less than other's without issues similar. "I know my words are just, well, words, but you don't need to hide them from me." Stoker didn't know how deep Winter's embarrassment went, but he truly did want his friend to know that there was no reason to be ashamed.
"Thank you," Stoker was more than happy to busy himself by putting honey into his tea and moving on to a conversation about it instead. While he meant what he said when speaking of Winter's accident, seeing the way that the other reacted to having left a note out, Stoker didn't want to force him to ruminate on the subject. "This smells amazing with the honey in it," he commented, smile as bright as his sparkling, friendly eyes.
"You're a tea person, aren't you?" Winter replied, smiling at Stoker. He could tell that was the case by the way the other replied. As he went about getting the tea started, filling a kettle with water and putting it on the stove, he went on, "I don't know if I am or if I'm just a honey person. I mean, I know I'm that, but sometimes I think that might be the main reason I drink tea." Despite drinking it a lot, Winter rarely had a cup that didn't have his honey in it; even The Twilight Cauldron bought a lot of their honey off of him. Winter smiled at Stoker's words though, pleased and proud of the way they talked about the honey. He had a surprise for the other, one he had intended to save for when Stoker was leaving, but Winter decided to give it to them now. So while waiting for the water to boil, Winter got out two cups and some other things for tea, including honey, and then he went into his pantry and grabbed a large bottle filled to the brim with more honey. "This is for you," Winter told Stoker, handing them the bottle. "It's from one of the best batches I had this year."
As Winter had ushered Stoker into the kitchen, he had kept a look out for any notes he hadn't seen again, so it seemed like the one note was all he had missed, at least in the places he'd had Stoker so far. Even so, that was one note too many. Despite Stoker's reassurances, Winter's cheeks burned brightly, and he looked down, embarrassed. "I know it's strange," Winter told Stoker. "I had an accident a little bit ago, and now I have a really hard time with my memory. I forget things all the time, so I have to write myself notes." Winter wasn't going to go into it fully, wasn't going to tell the other about how he even needed a note on the door that reminded him to lock it, something simple that should be automatic but wasn't anymore. Looking back up at Stoker, Winter finished, "And I'm even more embarrassed by the fact that I don't remember if I've told you this or not." The kettle started to whistle, so Winter turned the stove off before bringing a teacup and spoon over to Stoker. He put a tea bag into the cup and poured water into it, doing that for himself as well, and then Winter set the honey and other things he'd gotten out for the tea in front of Stoker. "Use whatever you're like," Winter said, trying not to be embarrassed by what he'd just told Stoker. Hopefully the other wasn't regretting coming here.

"The prosecution would like to call their next witness for the events of November 19th regarding the alleged kidnapping and murder of Eijiro Otoishi," the mood in the court room had only been declining as the "proper" murder charges had been dragged out, as tapes had been shown. [poorly-drawn-akira]
Izzy took in a deep breathe as she was called. Maybe she should have just given a statement instead of going up like this. This was her first time in court and it made her uneasy.
