why did best buy do this

bought a laptop (and best buy membership for the 2 year warranty!) last week. laptop is great!

realized costco had a better warranty plan ($100 for 3 years also costco tech support is delish)

asked best buy if i can cancel the membership and get a refund (this is all like within 3 hours of purchase btw)

best buys like "yeah!"

they cancel it and issue me a GIFT CARD.

i call best buy the next day like "hey? why gift card?" they said it was an accident. i ask to cancel, they give me a phone number to call

i call the phone number. they said that they put a request in for cancellation + refund, i'll hear back in 24-48 hours

that was a week ago

i call again today, suffer through 25+ minutes of a phone call, only for the lady to tell me i have to go to the store in person

i'm about to pull up to a best buy in person and demand both the gift card and a refund for the emotional duress i underwent during this process

the funniest part is my dad was saying that best buy sucks and i shouldnt get a laptop from there (i thought he was saying it because he said they have jacked up prices but no. he meant their customer service. cant believe he was right)
