Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 wins Indian Motorcycle of The Year 2024

The Indian Motorcycle of the Year (IMOTY) for 2024 has been announced, and the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 secured this prestigious title. It was followed by the Triumph Scrambler 400X and the KTM 390 Duke in second and third place respectively.

The Himalayan 450 was part of seven motorcycles that were selected for the final jury round. Among these were bikes from various segments- modern-classic, sports bike, street naked and adventure as well. And interestingly five out of seven contenders were from the 400-500 cc category.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 : IMOTY

The Indian Motorcycle of the Year is a highly esteemed award, paralleling the Indian Car of the Year, and is adjudicated by a panel of seasoned journalists from prominent magazines and media outlets.

Among the distinguished 14-member jury are Dipayan Dutta, Assistant Editor at Auto Today, and Rahul Ghosh, Associate Editor at Auto Today. Each jury member possesses 25 points to allocate among five worthy contenders, with a cap of 10 points for a single nominee.

Royal Enfield Himalayan

This bike has been extensively updated, including a new Sherpa 450 engine and a new steel twin-spar tubular frame chassis. The new engine now has 39.5bhp and 40Nm of torque.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 – Side View

It comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch as standard. Other features include a colour TFT screen with Google Maps and Bluetooth connectivity. Moreover, it also gets switchable ABS and ride-by-wire throttle.

The Himalayan 450 weighs 196kg, a few kgs lighter than the 411 while the fuel tank capacity is increased to 17 litres.

The pricing of the Himalayan is attractively positioned, ranging from Rs 2.69 lakh to Rs 2.84 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory). This competitive pricing adds to the allure of the Himalayan, making it an enticing choice for motorcycle enthusiasts looking for both performance and value.

While these prices will stay firm until the 31st of December, 2023, Royal Enfield plans to hike it from the 1st of January, 2024. Buyers are likely to pay up to Rs. 10,000 extra for the all-new Himayalan after the price hike in January 2024.

Aetherdrift spoilers ahead (reaction to part 2 of the planeswalker’s guide). Again, warning: uninformed, incendiary rant stuff at the end!

- As mentioned previously, I CALLED IT! It sounds like Amonkhet’s Eternals are also self-aware, albeit in supporting a…villainous faction maybe? But I’d like to wait until reading the story proper before making a judgement on the Chitin Court.

- YES! Talking about trade, commerce, folk just getting along! Ties into my maintaining that the planes are more than just eternal conflict, or at least beyond what we see in the main story chapters!

- I hope we see some more Avishkar angels! Pretty unique look, with the pink and silver…oh yeah and the four arms! Inventions that also invent and all that! Awww, and the art for Dawnfeather Eagle…falconer angels, I hope we get a callback to that!

-So, Sab-Sunen purified the Luxa and helped restore some of Naktamun’s former greenery. The water part interests me, but maybe not for the reasons you’d think; this may be a longshot, but I seem to recall Imoti’s legendary blurb mentioning purifying water, but not where she hailed from. I wonder whether she’ll get a card, indicating she’s from here?

- Saurids! You look awesome. You ride dinosaurs. AND. you’re into oozes. And that last point - I will always prefer Gruul…nature-ish types…to Selesnya! Yknow, nature’s got some mud and slime in it, embrace it! And though nothing will ever truly fill the hole in my heart where the viashino creature type used to be, I still welcome you with open arms!

- On the topic of Muraganda, the plane just sounds cool! Moonfall instead of starfall, gorilla druids, and home of the Mimeoplasm apparently! Also, it’s kinda nice to read about some folks there fighting back against land developers wanting to put a racetrack right out there behind their backyard. “This here’s 1240 Telu-Set Vista. It’s always been 1240 Telu-Set Vista!”

The bad:

- It talked about Avishkar setting itself up as a multiversal power…Look, I can guess that’s setting up a hook for a future set or story beat, and I do like the plane’s aesthetic and want to see more of it! But the Omenpaths are just uninteresting to me. It’s not like I couldn’t - or didn’t…I mean I did - write planar crossovers before MOM. Yet it looks like everything’s going by way of portals now. Which leaves planeswalkers…where, exactly? And adding onto that, what will the Aetherspark do for Nissa that a portal won’t?

- Muraganda feels stapled-on at the end, to me. Maybe it’s because it’s the last leg…or yknow, the turnaround point. And if I’m reading it right, racers will only cross the plane once, as opposed to Avishkar and Amonkhet’s return trips. Which is a shame! Because as mentioned, I love how Muraganda looks! Or maybe because it’s getting its official intro in a sillier set? Idk

- Ok this is pedantic beyond measure (unlike the rest of this criticism, right?) but, “On Amonkhet, unlike many planes, the barrier between life and death is slim and defined more by class than metaphysical or ontological factors.” Excuse me! Innistrad and its Crimson Court vampiric aristocracy. Ravnica and the blue-collar Golgari. Zendikar with zombie thralls. Tarkir with both Sultai and Silumgar’s…zombie thralls also. And Ravnica again, with the Orzhov! The list goes on, but you get the point! “Unlike many planes,” come on now.

- Nature plane, leyline geysers, leyline mages…I don’t even like Nissa all that much and I still wish she were here to see Muraganda! Or well, maybe she will be, idk. But since she’s not racing, I don’t know what the odds are she’ll get to be there in person?

New budget Commander cards: Wilds of Eldraine: Green

You know these by now, we'll go color by color, mixing main set and commander set. Reprints can be included if they brought the price down under our bar or are otherwise notable. All the cards presented here are under $2 at time of writing Note that the set hasn't officially released yet, so some prices may still be inflated, and others might spike in the future. Cards will be evaluated as part of the 99, not as commanders. Adventures with off-color parts will be carted off to the multicolor section.

Let's start with two new enchantress options. Archivist is two mana but will cap at one card per turn, which isn't great for the typical enchantress gameplan of chaining things together, and Lookout is limited to auras. Both of them trigger on ETB rather than cast, which is occasionally worse than on cast, but often better when it works with tokens, enchantment reanimation and such. They're more specific in the kind of enchantment decks they go in than the generic Sythis and Enchantress's Presence, but they definitely have their place in some subsets of enchantment decks.

They've been cranking the power on these green protection spells in the past few years. This is likely the third or fourth best option in that slot now, behind Tamiyo's Safekeeping and Tyvar's Stand, and possibly Snakeskin Veil. You likely only want it if you have synergy with roles, auras or enchantments in general.

This is a lot of very fragile power on the battlefield, but these Satyrs love being blinked or copied to fill a board. At 6 mana, you probably have better options, but it's new fun one. Just be careful that your copy effects are clones and not cackling counterparts, because that works less well.

On its face, this is a worse Eternal Witness, but plenty of green decks trivially generate an excess of lands in hand. If you can get back two or three things with this while not missing land drops, you're already pretty well-off. Particularly interesting if your graveyard is filled, so any deck that's running Life from the Loam will happily run this. Hey, wait, that's in the name!

A small variation on the theme of green enchantments drawing cards when you do big things. It's only two mana instead of the usual 3, and combining that with the immediate and unconditional cantrip gives this card a pretty great floor. It doesn't trigger on tokens like Elemental Bond or Tribute to the World Tree, but it does trigger on spells with reduced costs, be they force of wills, mulldrifters, Treasure Cruise, or even cascaded spells in an Imoti deck. It'll be great in decks heavy on those, Imoti as mentioned, Rashmi, and others of that ilk, but the floor is high enough any green deck probably can just run it as a cantrip with big potential upside if they have free slots.

A tutor for literally any creature for 3 mana is actually pretty rare in green, even if the rate overs around that. It's a bit slow, but you do get a decent body immediately too. And then a bit of damage. It's pretty generic, but it's very solid all around. Just don't get board wiped between chapter I and II. If it sticks around, the second chapter can actually tutor up a hex parasite or a similar creature, allowing you to keep this going and tutoring every turn you can feed it tokens. Or you could play a fauna shaman, but sometimes you have more tokens than cards in hand to discard.

3 mana land ramp is meh, 3 mana land ramp with a body is alright. This is basically a Farhaven Elf ditching the creature synergies with that card for spell and token synergies. Most green decks can more easily either recurr, blink, tutor or cheat out creatures than spells like this, so I expect it to stay a relatively niche option, but in some decks the tokens can be abused.

Auras that are pure stats have an uphill battle in Commander. Why play this when you could get a Bear Umbra with stats AND a better effect? Well, sometimes you just want opponents to die to commander damage, and 5 mana for +6/+6 and trample and two auras is pretty good at that. It coming back to hand Rancor-style means it's very hard to get rid of it by removing your Voltron commander. It's just a whole lot of damage, trample to make sure it goes through, and self-recursion to make sure it sticks.

This is very specific. This is also very very good in that specific deck. Food is generally the most harmless of the artifact token types (at least it was, until LOTR and this set introduced fifteen different payoffs and five different infinite combos with it), so it's not uncommon to see a lot of it laying around. When that happens, this enchantment can land, be immediately mana positive, and if you have that much Food might even immediately anthem your team too. Or just sit around doubling your mana thanks to your food. I'd play this in every green Food deck, and in no other deck, you have better options like Jaheira and Inspiring Statuary if you're more spread around between treasures, clues and food. But they're more fragile and don't come with a finisher packaged in them.

Reprints

Enchanting Tales still doing good things to prices. In order:

Utopia Sprawl is a fundamental and important part of the format, but up until now was hard to get on a budget because of modern play and few reprints. One mana ramp is the gold standard only green gets access to, and having it on an enchantment means it's less likely to go away at a moment's notice because of a board wipe or a random ping. Utopia Sprawl and Wild Growth are both good in this role, even in decks that don't have a ton of enchantment synergies, and they're bedrock all-stars in enchantment decks.

Hardened Scales is still the most efficient way to get access to that effect, even with the proliferation of copycats we have had recently. Multiple reprints have brought it down so that any counter deck can get one if they want it.

Unnatural Growth often gets overlooked, but it's often terrifying. Green already has the biggest creatures around, and this tends to finish games very quickly. It also working on your opponents' turn to block is often overlooked, and it goes nuts with extra combats. With that said, I do admit that the quad-green cost can be a bit scary... But you're in green, you search for lands every time you exhale.

Prismatic Omen has been a bit overshadowed by a dryad of the same effect, but the og is still a good way to get that effect, and as its first pack reprint since Shadowmoor, it definitely needed it.

Nature's Will isn't seen too often, but its friends Sword of Feast and Famine and Bear Umbra are. Might be because it was a Kamigawa card without a reprint before this year. In any case, untapping your lands one more time every turn is, according to my notes, "pretty good", and it also can go infinite pretty trivially with mana-based extra combats, so there's that.

Garruk's Uprising is part of the same family as Up the Beanstalk, caring about big creatures but also giving your team trample. I often find myself cutting it when we have access to cards like Elemental Bond and Tribute to the World Tree that draw cards easier, but it still has a place in some decks, and there's something to be said about the incidental trample.

All the usual enchantress suspects are in the precon, Setessan Champion is always good to see as a cheap constellation enchantress and finisher. Rishkar's Expertise is a great and easy way to shoot lightyears ahead in green, and always good to see more copies of it. As long as it's not my opponents casting them.

I love my girlfriends i cant wait till i move down to their state. but i am really going to miss my irl friends, spend 24 hours with 2 of them split across the weekend in 12 hour chunks 2 of my other friends were there for one 12 hour chunk too. lot of card games mostly grand archive tcg drafting. i need to go to bed but like i could just watch youtube and porn till morning and just not sleep. not the worst idea i do like my mid-day naps. my play some balatro or mtg had a really good game a bit ago. Love playing my imoti deck on arena cause like all ramp and big guys is so good, like what is good deck building and removal and shit nah boss, just cheat out ulamog and win or anything else sometimes you dont even need a wincon drawing 15 and having 100 damage on board is enough for most people to scoop but like thats not fun let me take my extra turn. also listening to a mix of slut emo and faggot music. why did life have to get good as the world is ending? like i barely got a chance to live before we started to die. being to young and shit for the era of fucking around and being an adult at the start of the finding out era is a bitch and a half like god damn but that depressing. my chest hurts. i should stretch. god damn are my girlfriends the most cute and perfect girls in the world i love them so much so very much.
