dick was, resolutely, not 'excited'. first: he's a leader, and it would be irresponsible to be anything but FOCUSED in the middle of a battle --- particularly one as precarious as this one. two: he's a professional. he's met people who can fly, time travel, shapeshift, move objects with their mind --- he's met aliens from distant planets and fought, more than once, with enemies whose ties to humanity is vague, at best. dick's seasoned, and NOT a giddy little school boy anxiously nudging at the police tape to get superman's autograph (never mind the superman autograph he's got stashed in his bedroom). but he'd be lying if he said there wasn't a certain thrill. the titans were a strong team, and robin wouldn't call in titans east unless they really needed the extra hand, but a part of him was, simply put, intrigued. he hadn't seen speedy or aqualad since the tournament from hell, and he'd heard good things about bumblebee that had him itching to put all their combined skills to the test. but what he was REALLY interested in --- dick threw a punch, tightening his core and expecting to absorb the pressure when instead his hand met air. cleaved gracefully through an open spot where dick swore, SWORE an enemy had just been. in a battle, every second counted, and he brushed it off and moved to kick at the guy on his left --- knowing the one approaching from behind him would think he had the jump with just enough reach for dick to use him as a vaulting pole AND a bettering ram. his boot moved, hands going back to grab in the same movement and --- NOTHING. same as before, like smoke through fingertips, dick's moves met air. and for one brief, hard-stopping second his brain supplied: DEATHSTROKE. he was losing his grip on sanity, again. he was just about to make the call to cyborg --- hand over control of the battlefield, take himself out before slade had the chance to activate whatever his plan was when he looked over to find a similarly confused starfire. hands glowing a vibrant green, one singular orange eyebrow raised at the lack of enemies surrounding her. mass hallucination, then? but no, dick turns once more to find beast boy's current elephant shape encircled by a dizzying swirl of red and yellow. dick's shoulders slumped in relief. yeah, maybe help wasn't so bad. with the sound of skidding shoes on pavement, dick gets his first real look at KID FLASH. a shock of orange hair sticking out of his suit, wide, pleasant blue eyes and a presence that even at standstill, still seemed to VIBRATE with energy. robin rests his staff on his shoulder, smirk pulling at the edges of his lips.
