IIT Joint Admission Test (JAM) is one of the national-level entrance exams. It is conducted for the admission of students for postgraduate courses at the top level institutes. Every year many students appear for the examination also many have doubts about the examination. So, here are all the things you need to know about IIT JAM.

What is the IIT JAM?

IIT JAM is an entrance exam which is conducted for admitting candidates with BSc and science degree to postgraduation courses in IITs, NITs, IISc among other top institutes. After clearing IIT JAM you can get admission to master’s degree courses like MSc, Ph.D., MSc-PhD dual degree. 

Eligibility

For IIT JAM registration you should have a bachelor’s degree in science or applied science with a score of at least 55%. Engineering students can also apply for this exam but the eligibility depends on the engineering branch of the student.

Papers and Pattern

IIT JAM has paper for seven subjects which are Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematical Statistics, Geology, Biological Science, and Biotechnology. IIT JAM exams score are only valid for one year. The paper is conducted online and dividend into three sections. There will be 60 questions for 100 marks. The first section contains MCQs, the second section contains MSQ and the third section contains numerical questions. Negative marking applied for the first section only.

Tips for preparation

The registration for IIT JAM will start from 5 September 2019 and the date for the examination is 9 February 2020. You will have a 6-7 month for preparation. So, analyze your syllabus and make a proper study plan by which you can cover the syllabus in the time period. Also, give some time for revision. Take make test and solver previous year question paper to analyze self-performance.
