when this barbarity one day ends—and it will. it will—i don't want to hear one fucking word about antisemitism within the arab community. i don't want to hear one word about the human rights those countries lack. i don't want to hear it. i don't want to fucking hear it.

w/out fail every time i see an anti US military post on the dash there are ppl in the notes going "the people who voluntarily enlisted are victims too"
dont fucking do that lmao. you are saying this on posts made by people from countries that the US has targeted for years while intentionally and systematically dehumanizing everyone living in those countries to make them easier targets. it's ridiculously distasteful and ignorant!!!!
like for most muslims and/or arabs in the US (for example!) even just briefly existing in the same space as someone wearing military fatigues is uncomfortable. the most obvious indication you can get that this is someone who does not see you as equal to them because they bought into the narrative that shipping off to Your Part Of The World to murder people like you is Justified.

and i must say that though my professor is deeply crazy, i respect that he has not backed down in the face of one of my old teammates hounding him about palestine lmfao since all of my professors will AT MOST give “condolences” about the “situation in the middle east,” as if that means anything to anyone

there are certain levels of ignorance im able to put up with on the dash esp from fellow americans whom I really don’t expect a lot from in terms of their political views. like ok person I follow I can grit my teeth thru your regular v*teblueisms if your tone isn’t too malicious or mocking of subjects that you yourself don’t understand. however I draw the line at you immediately taking any excuse to totally disengage from these issues because they make you uncomfortable, and spreading misinformation to all your followers in the process.

#no wait listen to me. listen to me#im south asian. my grandparents were muslim. my great aunt and uncle and their children and my parents siblings are all muslim#my parents aren't. they raised us without any religion. without even our national cultural ceremonies tied to islam#dont let yourself believe for a fucking second that has nothing to do 9/11 happening two years before i was born. two years before we moved#im south asian. my dad's first name is mohammed. when we catch a flight we get to the airport two hours earlier-#to account for the time it'll take my dad to be 'routinely stopped and searched' by airport security#routinely is right lmfao. it happens every time we fly#last time i was on an american airlines flight our checked luggage ended up across the continent and took two days to get to us#(my 12yo cousin gifted us an alarm clock that made an ominous ticking noise and we couldn't shut it the fuck up-#the luggage was labeled mohammed and coming from south asia. my sibling jokes it's a wonder we got it back)#im canadian. i cried my ass off to cfa tonight bc of how touching the story of a small town coming together to help a group of strangers is#(can't help thinking that never would've happened in a bigger city? but thereby lies another tale)#and god normally i hate 9/11 stories bc it feels like two sides of my identity being pitted against each other and it makes me so uncomfy#like as a canadian i should be sympathetic towards the states and at the same time im viscerally aware of the lasting prejudiced impacts#but cfa did it so beautifully#will never get over the 'thorough search' scene. 'you will never understand'.#the lump in my throat i get every time I watch my normally distinguished and tough and coolheaded father be pushed through airport security#how resigned he is to it. how he tries to stay dignified. how scared my mom gets every time. how rough they are with him#when he usually commands respect#and yet also the pride and the lump in my throat i got today knowing it was a little canadian town that made a difference#sigh enough out of me i just have a lot of feelings#come from away#team screams

serious question for non-native english speakers who have any sort of religious beliefs (or people who have a language they speak for liturgical reasons and not in their day to day life, ie praying in arabic or hebrew)
when you say "god" in colloquial english, does it feel like you're saying a word that actually means your deity that you actually believe in or pray to in whatever degree?
personally: nope, unless i'm specifically trying to talk about mine, in which case I usually use the hebrew term i'm used to (hashem, translates to "the name") or "g-d" (written as such for religious purposes) but "god" as used in english to me is sort of just like "the christian god" and it's off to the side. de-religion'd and de-importance'd for me. hence the question, because it makes me curious

happy thanksgiving to all who are celebrating!! i hope you get to spend time with people you love today & find joy in even the smallest things to be thankful for. one of those things for me has been coming back to this community after such a hard time in my life and finding (& re-finding in some cases) such lovely people with not just beautiful writing & characterization, but such warm & kindhearted energy. i really feel welcome here & i’m having a lot of fun with both of my muses (even though giorno just got here lol, shhh) 🤧 i hope to write with all of you even more & to get to know you, too! 🤎🦃
