Ask game for Oliver Queen, I have been curious about your thoughts on him for ages! 2, 5, 14, 20
I do have a lot of thoughts on Ollie, actually. He sort of falls into the same category as Arthur for me, where I find him incredibly infuriating at times but I do like him and his setting.
2. When I think I truly started to like them (or dislike them, if you've sent me a character I don't like)
The thing is, I go back and forth on my feelings about Ollie all the time. I've read some absolute terrible behaviour from him, because he's exactly the sort of socialist-leaning white guy who tends to frame everything through his own viewpoint and is oblivious to intersectional issues until someone challenges him on them and makes them unavoidable for Ollie to consider. He is so very often written as the sort of dinosaur from the labour movement I know so well who is fully committed to its ideals but doesn't think of his own at home hypocrisies.
But by god, how he tries. If there is one ultimate redeemable aspect to Ollie it's when he's challenged on an issue and he realises he's been wrong about it, he makes an effort.
It's actually what I think drives a lot of the good dad/bad dad narrative over Ollie, because he is fundamentally bad at being a parent and makes so many mistakes over the years. But he also loves his kids deeply and works on his problems (once he realises he has them). He tries again. And it's in his willingness to make that effort and try again that the relationships improve, and why people see him as a good parent.
Now if he would at any point aim that self-reflection at his relationship with Dinah properly I would be extremely grateful. It's been decades and he takes her for granted far too much.
5. My favorite ship of them
...probably Ollie/Shado, actually, because it's interestingly toxic. They have issues. It's ridiculously complex given the layers of nonsense built into it by various reboots. I desperately want Robert and Emiko to exist in the same continuity because it's just hilarious to me in terms of the drama it would cause.
I also like it because nobody tries to pretend they're perfect for each other.
14. Best storyline they had
This is where I have to say I do need to sit down and read larger chunks of Ollie's runs. Because I've read a bunch of his stuff from various sections of the timeline between COIE and the present, but mostly in single arcs here and there.
I might be basic and say I did very much enjoy Quiver. It's famous for a reason, plus it did absolutely bizarre things to Stanley and his Monster for no reason at all, which amuses me in terms of how complex it made the lore and also depresses me as it means people overlook earlier versions of their story.
20. A weird headcanon
A weird headcanon for Ollie? hmmm. Given everything around his history and backstory as a character, in terms of being a Batman expy from creation, he does actually feel like he's in a constant competition with Bruce, a competition where he thinks he's losing on so many metrics. It means that he centres himself in the aspects where he thinks he has an edge on Bruce and puffs up them, and denigrates all the ways he feels inferior to Bruce.
It's what drives so much of his relationship with Bruce over the years, on so many teams, and he would actually really have an easier time if their kids weren't such good friends. Because. He cannot escape the comparisons.
I also have this elaborate backstory for how Bruce specifically asked Ollie to look out for and care for Cass on her very first 'adult' team during Justice League Elite, and he looked at her and saw how she was hiding so much of herself to play Kasumi that he felt protective of her.
Which is why he pivoted so hard in Batman & the Outsiders to mistrusting her after the evil arc, because all he heard about it were the community gossip, so he thought she had been playing him in JLE and he missed finding out that the issue had been that she'd been drugged by Slade. And Cass can tell that he no longer trusts her and wants to look out for her, and reacts to that.

Oooh, saw your tags and now I'm curious! What are the differences between my thoughts on Never Again and yours? Always open to hearing other opinions-- helps me clarify my own or add to them. :DDDDD
okay like i told you this is just going to be funny now. first because where i diverge really seems kind of insignificant to me, because it doesn't change any of your points or the ~outcome of how i think about never again as a whole. or really, t's about the evolution of scully's position, so it isn't different? second, because i literally need to shout about one specific part. it's so real. so anyway, onward.
the referenced post. most important part quoted below, but read the whole post bc it's good!! (and i really don't know much about the bts or writers but it's cool to learn about!!)
so specifically this is what you say in the context of never again. you lay it out simply and perfectly.
As much as Scully denies her actions aren't "about you" to Mulder, Never Again isn't solely about daddy issues or feeling trapped-- it's feeling trapped by being second best. Romance was explicitly written into the dna of this episode: she takes the rose from the grave-- someone's lasting legacy on their loved one's life-- extrapolates meaning from it behind Mulder's desk, and deflates when Mulder runs off to his vacation that even he rates as secondary to his quest (Mulder missed her entire point: needing his reassurance and reinforcement, needing his speech in the FTF hallway; and Scully missed that he missed it.) When she meets Jerse, she's flattered by his sole focus on her, takes his card, but still plans to leave; Mulder has been calling, but when he reconnects and hides the fact he missed her behind "how's the quest going?", it kicks Scully in the shins and she decides to change plans and meet up with Ed. "The tattoo you deserve" and one night stand with Ed drags down Scully's view of herself, in hindsight-- how did she not see that he was psychotic?-- and the final scene in the basement is tinted with second guesses of her own character: more specifically, what Scully thinks she has the right to ask from Mulder, doubting her own judgment (a theme she continually struggles with throughout the series.) If she sits and remains in the basement, Scully has to accept that Mulder won't move them forward; and she does, choosing to be Starbuck to this (in her perspective) doomed (relation)ship because at least Mulder needs her... which is why The End and Fight the Future hit her so hard, convincing her she has no use in his life, period.
obviously we agree that mulder doesn't get it from the start. you nail what hurts scully perfectly, what she needs from him. i truly think scully could wait forever as long as she knows they're on the same page. and here, she isn't.
but specifically, the part i want to shout about: the bit about scully's judgment, and what she can ask of mulder. like YES. i just don't think i've seen anyone say this and you're just right. you're so right. how often do we see scully struggle with her judgment? i think she does when diana shows up and it's part of the reason she needs mulder to trust her judgment in those circumstances. there are so few times that scully is SO sure about what's happening. she tries so hard to be rational, the voice of reason. but it's like her desire scares her, and i think that's a lot of what's happening in never again. because what can she ask of mulder? especially when it looks to her like he doesn't want her, doesn't need her, doesn't trust her with the x files. why is she there at all?
now, me being nitpicky? idk really. "it's feeling trapped by being second best." i think this is right. it's just that. at first, she was okay with this. because they were partners, the x files are his life. she thought she understood this and accepted it. at the beginning in season one, of course she did! they didn't have a personal relationship yet. everything was all about the work, and in never again, it's all about them with the work shrouding their relationship. scully definitely thinks they have something and she thinks they might be on the same page, but he seems to confirm the opposite. it's just work and there isn't really room for her, or a personal relationship. so she is absolutely reconciling if she can keep on this way. if the work and following mulder and being what he needs is enough...if she even has a choice. and she does, and reconciling her choice to stay with what she wants is the struggle.
so really?? i don't disagree. i just wanted to talk about how being second best became a concern the longer she was on the x files, the more her feelings grew (or maybe the more she recognized them), her feelings scaring her and what they mean for mulder & the x files & her life, etc etc.
SO all of that to say, i actually agree with you. i just love the slow evolution and consistency of their characters & relationship <3 now please share your thoughts on my nonsense!!

ok it feels a little odd to self promote in your asks, but i haven't seen you in my notes in a bit and wanted to let you know if you missed it that i started a new ODAAT fic project last month! another, longer, alvareider AU up on AO3. ouran OT3 would be fun but needs to wait until penelope & schneider get their happy ending, or i'll never finish anything lol
i'm happy for you to self promote and i'm happy to promote on your behalf: hey everyone, threegee is writing a really good alvareider au and if you like odaat at all you should read it!!!
i've been rotating your earlier reply in my head since i got it, the one about alvareider and the cross-cultural, cross-class aspect of their relationship, and the power they have over each other that they don't abuse, and the way penelope punches up at schneider a lot and figures he can take it.
then it cross-pollinated with your thoughts about ouran host club, and i started thinking about how any fic shipping haruhi with any of the hosts that goes beyond a fluffy one-shot is going to eventually bump up against the power and class dynamic. it doesn't need to be a huge focus, but it's definitely there around the edges all her interactions.
that would be especially true with tamaki, who has the most direct power over her because of her debt but seems unaware of it; and kyoya, who's extremely aware of the financial leverage he's got, and presses on that in pointed ways, but also comes to truly respect haruhi. they're not her landlords and can't literally kick her out of her home, but that's still one hell of a relationship factor! (plus there's everything about the beach episode, but that's more than i'm willing to grapple with if i tried to write this ot3, at least at first)
thinking also about how the hitachiin twins initially think that tamaki is just collecting his richest and most influential classmates, but he genuinely just wants to be friends with all of them, and how he sort of does the same thing with haruhi and is then very upset when he considers that he may have been demanding too much of her time.
...now i just want to rewatch ohshc.
#friendship is great!#glintglimmergleam#one day at a time#odaat#ouran high school host club#ouran host club#while That Scene was very upsetting i do have to admire how deftly it set the foundation for the overall tone of the show to shift later on#most of the episodes remained light and silly but the fact that they'd already opened questions of gender and power and vulnerability#meant you could see those factors more clearly even when it wasn't the focus; iirc the zuka club was introduced in the very next ep

Reasons why I ship LawLight
It's been a year since I last watched Death Note and up to this day, it still remains on my TOP 5 FAVORITE ANIME (alongside Attack on Titan, Daiya no Ace, Gintama, and the Inazuma Eleven franchise).
Be as it is, the ship between L and Light holds a special place here in my heart. And today I want to talk about the reason why I am head over heels for this painstakingly beautiful ship.
For a quick heads-up. "LawLight" is a non-canon ship pair from Death Note. The two person involved are Yagami Light also known as "Kira" and the Great Detective L otherwise known as Ryuuzaki. I believe that their trope belongs to the enemies to lovers. They are also the most famous ship for the said fandom.
I admit that I am a certified fujoshi. So when scenes like walking together under falling sakura leaves, going to a cafe for their date to confirm their suspicions about each other's identity, and was even CHAINED 24/7 were shown, I can't help but ship them despite the fact that they are LITERALLY TRYING TO KILL AND CATCH EACH OTHER.
Actually for me, what makes this ship so appealing is their cat and mouse chase. A criminal and a detective. The spark and sexual tension apparent in their battle of wits. Who shall fall first? Who shall emerge victorious? And I firmly think that this dynamic between them is also one of the biggest factors why this anime/manga became such a success.
In the eyes of a shipper, some of their interactions are seen as a potential fuel to lit a burning flame called romance. Another thing, they also complement each other.
Why? Well, let's look at Yagami Light first.
Light used the notebook to alleviate his boring mundane life. Because of his high IQ, normal things don't ellicit excitement for him. Also, always hearing about everyday crimes, his strong sense of justice tells him to rid the world of this disgusting humans who continue to cause chaos for the world. So, immediately grabbing the death note as an opportunity to make his ideals a reality, KIRA IS BORN.
Of course, no matter how good the intention is. Taking lives is still a murder. And the fact that Light wanted to take advantage of the situation to become GOD OF THE NEW WORLD, it's true essence is slowly turning into selfishness. Just like any ordinary case, the police have taken interest, no, it's more accurate to say that they were FORCED to take interest. With no more cards to play, the worldwide police decided to ask help from their trump card. Yes, the world's greatest detective L.
Hiding in a single gothic letter and synthetic voice, Light had found his other half. The yin to his yang. Why you ask?
It's simple. L is the only person who can match his intelligence. Who can see through his barrage of lies and alibis. He was the only one who doubted him, the only one who almost sent him to his doom.
He was the ultimate obstacle Light needed to overcome. Because of this thrill, of this danger, Light found true challenge. Other than the joy of killing criminals for his dream, battling with L brought an unexpected bliss deep within his soul. Because of L, his once dull world had been painted with complicated colors. L is the only one who can understand Light.
He is his enemy.
He is his Equal.
He is his captor.
The same goes for L.
Being the number 1 detective in the world, I bet that cases has become repetitive for him. With his astounding deduction skills, he could immediately solve a case while eating his favorite sweets. Thus the appearance of Kira is a mystery for him.
A highly difficult game for him to solve and win. As he said himself, he is childish and he hates to lose. So in order to win, he's given away his identity. He steps out of his shadows and approached Kira himself. Maybe it's a call for responsibility, a call for justice, or a call for his pride, whatever his reason is, he's willing to risk his life.
When he made contact with Light, he had realized that Light is the only other person who can see through him. His trials, his tests. Light never fails to amaze and surprise L. He had even considered him his successor, even though he only used it to test Light, with the latter quickly grasping the subtle accusation.
He is his enemy.
He is his captee.
He is Equal.
No one knows if their relationship had gone beyond detective and a criminal. If they ever had a genuine conversation. One without lies and hidden intention.
A talk as L and Light.
Looking at a watcher's perspective. A single particular scene showed a glimpse of their relationship. The rooftop and foot massage scene who fueled a lot of LawLight shippers.
"The bells are unusually loud today." - L
At the rooftop, L had asked Light if he had ever uttered a truth once in his life. With Light regaining his memories, L knows that this attempt is futile, yet he still tries. And maybe, even held a little hope that Light would surrender himself.
Light on the other hand, as expected caught the meaning of his question, within that short silence, he contemplated his answer even if it's just for mere seconds. But because Light had already steeled his resolve, he chose to lie.
He had already made a choice.
And that is to kill L.
And L himself knows it.
At the stairs, an intimate scene between them is shared. Both are drenched in the rain, then L suddenly offered a foot massage to Light. For non-shippers, they say that it's a Bible reference.
But for people like me, it's simply nothing but a bittersweet moment where for once, emotions are stirred and shared.
The atmosphere, their longing stares.
Light drying L's hair.
The exchange of words.
It truly is a very painful and touching picture.
"It will be lonely isn't it? You and I will be parting ways soon".
L is known for not showing his true emotions. Yet in here, he bares everything. From the way he looks at Light and that slight curve on his mouth, like he's very regretful of something. Maybe it's because he wasn't able to personally give him the verdict or it can also be what ifs and what would they have become if they didn't meet in this kind of circumstances.
On Light, he looked shock and somewhat sad. They say it was an act, but the knowledge of his arch-nemesis soon dying, the one who has been with him since this "chase" started, the one being who gave him thrill and pushed him to his limits, the one who for months, was chained with him 24/7, the only one who could stand as his equal, the one who made him feel, losing that person will surely give you mixed emotions, and I believe that the sadness there is genuine, even though it had been overshadowed by his delight for victory.
It was only a for a short moment but for once, they've dropped all facades as they face each other as L and Light, not Ryuuzaki and Kira.
After L's death, Light is shown to have lose some of his sanity. I've read in a site before telling that L was the one who's holding his ground. And with him gone, with the thrill of danger gone, Light suddenly found himself at loss. He spent months trying to rid of his enemy. His disappearance had caused a void in his heart.
I remember a certain scene where Light imagined L sitting at his usual chair. His eyes were dead and devoid of color. That's where he also started to lower his guard down. For him, L is his only formidable opponent, his other half. He is his equal. It proves with the appearance of Near, where Light says that he's far inferior to L. That he doesn't deserve to wear his mask.
Light had come to respect L.
In Light's final moments, he sees L. A hallucination some says. But they're missing a point here.
The fact that L showed up, either his soul or an imagination, means that he had become an important figure to Light. Maybe he was thinking what L said during the times that they are wearing the chains.
"As long as we are wearing this chains. You and I are bound to share the same fate. If you die, I die." - L Lawliet
Yes, the chains are gone, physically. But because Light had allowed L to become an important piece of his life, he had secured the chain for L to held him captive for as long as he's alive...and if you let your imagination wild, even after death.
This are the reasons why I fell in love with this ship.
They're both broken.
One is blinded by power.
One had secluded himself from the outside world.
Their chase will never be forgotten. A game that only the two of them understood knowing from the beginning that they will never achieve a happy ending. This painful and bittersweet ship will go down in history.

Hi! I was looking for a LotR match up and dating headcanons please! I'm typically just interested in humans, but if you'd want to consider elves as well that's fine, too!
My name is Taylor, I'm 26, asexual and nonbinary (they/she/him), with a stronger preference for men tbh
I'm tall, 6'1-2, blonde, with green eyes (if it helps, I have a few selfies tagged on my blog under "my face")
I'm the epitome of an INTP if that helps, I'm typically very aloof and stuck inside of my head
I'm also type five on the enneagram, the investigator, I'm very cerebral
I studied English and psychology in college and am looking to get a master's in English literature, with a focus on either medieval literature or Elizabethean theater
I am a writer and, while I make it a point to master my control of my language, it doesn't always show when I speak and I can sometimes feel and be very awkward around people, especially newer people
I have diagnosed anxiety and depression which honestly hampers my day-to-day life, sometimes situations will throw me off and I just don't have the confidence to make it through
I am incredibly creative and thrive in an intellectual environment, especially with people who can fuel my imagination or who are willing to ask me questions
As I am so often stuck in my head, sometimes I miss important things. I'm observant in most cases, but I'm also forgetful. Sometimes I can seem uncaring I think, but if I really truly care for someone, I make it a point to let them know that I'm thinking about them
I don't keep a lot of friends, I'm not very social, but I'm incredibly loyal to those that I love. My friends feel like my family
I have a sharp, witty sense of humor, filled with sarcasm
I love to read, write and draw, of course, I'm big into video games and film, but I also enjoy being outdoors when I can. I love to hike, and I have a sharp eye for photography, so I'll often stop for pictures
I'm not an incredibly sporty person, but I do fence and know my way around a sword. I'm also into archery and have a bow of my own. I used to hunt, but I haven't in a while. I'm trying to get myself back into ballet
I feel like I have a tough exterior, or that I'm prone to put up walls so that I can hide behind a polite veneer, so I feel as though it takes someone with patience and warmth to crack through to the heart of me and see what's underneath
Okay, I think that's everything. I hope this is helpful, I hope I've encapsulated myself well enough, lol. Sorry for the length! Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you so much!
Sorry this took so long! I had to work all day, but I’m here now! Thank you for your request❤️
I ship you with Boromir!
• He might not understand the whole concept of gender, but it does not mean he’s not willing to learn. He will want you to explain every little detail to him so he knows he refers to you in a correct way.
• Size, weight, shapes...It never really bothered him. He’s a very respectful person and will always appreciate another. Even better, he admires those who look different from the “society’s epitome of beauty”. For example, you height? It’s a total yes for him. He loves it. Immediately. It’s one of the things that drew him to you.
• He’s not a writer himself, so seeing you put these words and sentences onto paper, makes him feel so proud. Not necessarily for the fact that you know how to write, but the fact that he has a S/O who is so talented in words.
• Whenever moments get to overwhelming for you, whether anxiety or depression, he’ll be there for you. He’ll talk to you, hold you, offer you something...whatever helps you calm down. He’ll try to get you out of these situations, but sometimes it’s just impossible. He tries really hard though, so his effort is always a great source of comfort to you.
• He knows what it’s like to be loyal to a small group of people and he loves it that you do too. In his eyes, loyalty is not easy to divide over a great group of others, so he only keeps those close who really mean a lot to him. Lucky you, you’re one of them. He will definitely throw hands with someone if you ask him to. It’s that easy.
• Gondor is a beautiful kingdom, so he’ll take you to the prettiest places. Whether it’s a view from up top, or a small village build between the walls, he’ll show you everything. While traveling, he’ll let yo decide when and where to stop as you always seem to have a keen eye for those kind of things.
• He knows how to hunt, so he’ll always go with you. For one, to keep you safe and for two, he loves spending times like these with you. It shows a different side of you that makes him fall in love with you even more every time.
• He himself has a reasonably hard wall to cover him, but just as you, he’s a really soft person inside. He’s a great person to be around in general and he is great at cracking jokes or cheering you up. He’s so loveable, it’s just adorable.
I hope you liked it! Stay safe during these times please❤️

1) Hi, recently I've been reading a lot of posts about how the most important thing for Mofftiss was to be "clever and surprise the audience", sometimes at expense of character developement and plot, and I think this is the reason why they killed off Moriarty so early in the show (unless he's actually alive, as I obviously hope). Moriarty is the main villain in almost every Holmes adaptation, so they wanted to do something different, write a totally new, better villain,
2) which, on a theoretical level, can be a good thing, but in the end they utterly failed. They wrote Moriarty as one of the best and most compelling villain ever, while Eurus, the new, better villain they wanted, is so unconvincing and flat I’m not at all surprised the episode was so strongly disliked by many fans. I think if they didn’t want so much to be cleverer than anyone else, they would’ve realized what a great character Moriarty was3) and they would’ve gone with him as the ultimate villain in the end, instead of writing the least fascinating villain of the series and just putting Moriarty in a flashback as an afterthought. What do you think?
I mostly agree with both you and all these posts. I think Moftiss dreamed to achieve a paradox: create a version that would offer a brand new, hopefully shocking and unexpected insight in Sherlock Holmes’ character but without alienating their version from the canon to the point of having some people accusing them of taking too many liberties.
As long as they had the convenience of the open, developing story arc, they were as innovative as possible. Sherlock and John were in love (IMO, dunno if you ship it), Moriarty had a much stronger presence, complex and layered character as well as a completely daring relationship with Sherlock which basically resembled a lover’s jealousy much more than a nemesis, Mrs Hudson was much cooler, Lestrade closer to Sherlock, Mary had an interesting twist as a person of AT LEAST very dubious allegiances etc
But when they had to wrap up the story, they abandoned any innovative thread they once created. Were Sherlock and John in love? Well, who knows, the thing is they remained friends living seperately like in ACDc. What about Mary’s character and motives? Well, who knows, she ended up the good wife who had an undeserved death like in ACDc. What about Moriarty? Why did he do everything? Did he have a much more personal reason? Well, who knows, he died in the middle of the stories but kept haunting Sherlock for a while like in ACDc. Lestrade, Mrs Hudson, Molly - nobody had a fully developed story arc like the previous series suggested because that was the case in ACDc too, let alone that Molly didn’t even exist.Moftiss chose to be truly creative only when it came to an issue Doyle never addressed: how Sherlock Holmes became Sherlock Holmes. There they felt completely free and unafraid to add to the story because they thought nobody could blame them they violated the canon (or created a version worse than the original or many others). So they decided to add as much shock and surprise to their solely own part of the story: Sherlock’s past and Eurus. The problem is that when you abandon, one by one, all your plot threads, and give your everything to a risky idea that has no reference, hint or at least familiarity to the canon and you hope to enthrall the crowds with that shaky idea distributed in ONE SINGLE EPISODE, it’s really unwise to believe you ‘ll actually succeed.
In short, I think they truly wanted to hint that Moriarty had a very personal problem with Sherlock, that Sherlock and John were in love, that Mary might have been a double agent, that… that… that… But their point was just to hint because they weren’t confident enough to make the subtext text. For everything they would add, it would still always be 1895. Like a loop of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson and Jim Moriarty always having the same fate through time, despite the changes coming with each era. I don’t know, they might even think it’s a good idea. I would perhaps like it too, had it not been so poorly executed in the end.
While completely afraid to vastly and irreversibly change the canon, they still tried to up their game as much as possible, aware what people wanted. More Johnlock? Have it! More Moriarty despite being dead? Have him! They did an awful lot of fan service. For instance, they kept mentioning Irene Adler for no reason. They kept Molly stuck to her feelings despite previously hinting that she moves on. They brought Moriarty back because they thought his fans just missed the swagger. All this fan service that made the story end up incredibly shallow.
So, they knew they created a fantastic Moriarty, much better than the original, that’s why they kept mentioning him constantly and bringing him back in any way that seemed possible. But they did not dare or want to actually bring him back and be accused of butchering the canon. They eventually tried to belittle Moriarty for the sake of their own Eurus, by making Eurus smarter, more dangerous, crazier, I don’t fucking know what else. They gave Eurus unrealistic qualities to hopefully beat Moriarty in the fans’ mind. They made them relying on each other mutually so that would keep both the Moriarty fans and everyone expecting something fresh happy. They made Moriarty be in awe of her and partially work with her. But they also gave Moriarty some swagger ( that in fact didn’t feel like him) just so they wouldn’t overdo it. They tried all this in one episode. They tried to surpass with their own one-episode story the hype they had knowilngly created all these years with their not definite yet important improvements on the canon. They tried so desperately to achieve this in such a short time that the result was quaint and delirious. Their Eurus very reasonably failed.
They simply tried to please everyone who appreciated the hype they had created in the middle of the show without altering the ACD canon except in the only way they felt they would not be criticized at all for potentially worsening somebody else’s work: in Sherlock’s past which ACD hadn’t mentioned at all. It’s ironic how that’s why they got the most criticism in the end.
Anyway, this is the only way I can remotely interpret the reason behind their choices. They wanted to be innovative in the most undaring way possible - that’s not how it works.
Having said all this, MORIARTY LIVES
