#I'm so used to rick and morty seasons taking years to come out
Text
you can have your opinions about rick and morty and the horrible reputation the fandom has (which is kind of nonexistent on tumblr to begin with which is good actually probably) but I just watched the the cold open for episode 2 of s7 and I laughed so hard I cried

I drove to the mall today, only to find that...Spencer's is closing early! Noooo! Spencer's is the backbone of the merchandise roundups!
I caught a glimpse inside the store before they pulled down the gate, and they'd placed some old Rick and Morty merchandise in the front, but nothing like the display for season six last year. Come on, guys, let's get with the program.
Hot Topic and Rue 21 didn't have anything new, so I had one last option: the "nerdy" stores. I didn't expect much because they don't stock new Rick and Morty merchandise that often. But it turned out that one store had their own way of celebrating season seven--a huge pile of Funko Pops.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I tried taking pictures of all of them, but the shelves had way too many. I LOVE this portal gun replica:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I actually have this shirt! I bought it at an anime convention a couple of years ago.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the Funko Pops, these two guys dominated the exhibit:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You also had your choice of dozens of smaller ones. Since they ended up here, I guess they're no longer Hot Topic/Game Stop/convention exclusives.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Still too big? They had a few miniatures.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wonder if they just had these sitting around or if someone dropped off their whole collection. Gotta say, Funko Pops has a good racket going. They've gotten rich off characters that they don't even own!
Next stop: the other "nerdy" store. Adult Swim really will sign off on anything. Has anyone played Uno and thought "Man, I really wish these cards had Rick and Morty characters on them"? lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A couple of comics were waiting for me: one at the front of the shelf, the other at the back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Personally, I don't read the comics because I'm not interested in non-canon content. People say they are, but eh...if it's not in the show, I don't consider it canon.
Speaking of canon, we're getting the trailer tomorrow--and how much do you want to bet that we STILL won't hear the voices? Maybe the rest of the Smiths will have lines just to really drive us nuts.
I'm not even mad about it. I respect Adult Swim's commitment to trolling. It's what Rick would want!

Some Rick and Morty quotes that make me SOB
"I'm calling it...the adventure's over..."

*Rick sees a beaten Mr. Jellybean leave the bathroom and realizes what that sick fuck did to his grandson*
"Listen Morty...I just won a bunch of shmeckles...how about we use 25 of them to pay Slippery Stair here for a ride, then we'll give the rest of the shmeckles to the villagers, huh?"
"R-really?"
"Sure Morty, yeah, a good adventure needs a good ending."
....
"Oh heros! We'd like to introduce you to our beloved king so that he may thank you personally!"

"So let me get this straight...for the rest of your life no matter how much it hurts you, no matter how much it destroys our children's futures...we're going to do whatever Rick wants, whenever he wants?"

"I'll be ok...bye Morty."
"Rick...you're not leaving right?"
"Yes I am...to get ice cream."
"So you're coming back?"
"Morty, if you go to where there's a bunch of ice cream and don't come back, you haven't actually gotten ice cream, you just went to where ice cream is."
"Rick...I can handle it if you go...but you'll break Mom's heart...and I won't forgive you for that!"
"...Where's the car, Morty?"
....
"Look...I'm doing what's right for the galaxy by calling you...so...if I come back to Earth...can my family have a normal life?"
"We only want Sanchez sir, your family will be fine."

"Jesus Chirst it hurts!"
"Relax! Quit your bitching! You're gonna be fine! Grandpa's here."

~ Star Mort Rickturn of Jerri

"Ok...so what's the undercut?"
"You're not hearing me Morty, I will never be the same because of these two crows. So I need to leave with the crows and see what more they can teach me."
"Oh. ....Oh."
~ Forgetting Sarick Mortshall
"You can come with me if you want, don't blame me if you don't."
"Ugh..from where I sit Morty, that's the best deal on the table...I-I don't have a real plan."
~ Rickmurai Jack
"If you don't care if you die, why do you care if I die?"
"Knock it off get outta here! You did this last season! You're like a suicide bomber!"
"Takes one to know one!"
"Well you get it from him (Rick Prime) not me!"
"I don't know him! You're my grandpa Rick! Rick and Morty 100 years!"
~ Solaricks
"I MADE you! I showed you infinity! And what did you do with it? Hang out with MY grandson!? Raise echos of MY daughter?! What's your life without me?"
"Let's find out."
"Admit it, you would've been me! I just walked into your garage before you walked into mine! But eventually you did! YOU LIVED IN MY HOUSE!"
~ Unmortricken
"Come on, we'll get through this!"
"I-I'm staying here..."
"No we're Rick and Morty. I'm not leaving without you."
"....What did you just say?"
"I said I'm not leaving without you! C'mon! You're irreplaceable!"
(Echoing) "Irreplaceable...Irreplaceable...Irreplaceable..."
"Oh god...I know what I'm afraid of...I'm afraid you'd never say that in real life! I'm afraid that if I jumped into a hole you wouldn't even bother jumping in after me! This entire thing has been about me! YOU'RE NOT EVEN IN THE HOLE ARE YOU!?"
~ Fear No Mort

About Me: Favorite TV Shows
I'm gonna be honest with all of you: I'm not much of a TV show guy. I'm just typically not one who likes sinking a lot of time into something unless it's a video game with a lot to do in it. This is why I review movies; they're typically the perfect length for my easily-distracted ass to take in.
But still, there are plenty of shows that have broken that rule and managed to keep me engaged and coming back for more. Some of these are favorites from my childhood, while some of these are more recent shows I finally decided to watch. It's a nice mix, but the main thing here is that all of these shows are something truly special to me considering I took the time to watch them all.
There's a few honorable mentions to go over. The four biggest ones are The Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy, and Rick & Morty. I love all four of these shows... for the most part. My issue with all of them is that despite having stretches that are some of the greatest ever in TV history, they also have huge chunks of absolute dogshit to the point it is debated to this day at which point the shows fell off, or if they even managed to get back on. And sure, every show has bad stretches, but with most of these shows being long running programs and all of them being massive cultural phenomena, it sticks out a lot more. Rick & Morty in particular was hit really bad by this. The reason these shows don't get on while I have other long runners with bad stretches on the list is simple: When these shows are bad, they're offensively bad. Like the middle seasons of SpongeBob are bad, but at least they don't have his giant sperms come to life and impregnate his sister's egg to create a giant incest baby or have an overly long sequence in which he vomits after finding out he fucked a trans woman.
Other honorable mentions include: Batman Beyond, Chowder, Catscratch, Codename: Kids Next Door, Fraggle Rock, Good Omens, Malcolm in the Middle, Heroes, Cardcaptor Sakura, Invader Zim, Ben 10, Gargoyles, and The Mandalorian.
30. Captain Planet and the Planeteers
Tumblr media
I had to find a way to squeeze one "so bad it's good" show on the list, but how? Making a show that's pure camp is more difficult than making a movie like that... but they somehow found a way by giving us the adventures of racially diverse eco-warriors fighting against pollution with the held of an absolutely ripped planetary avatar with a green mullet who spouts an endless stream of cheesy puns and one-liners that would make even Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze take pause. Every time this show is on, you bet your ass I'm sitting down and watching; it's the most beautiful cheese there is.
29. Bluey
Tumblr media
My wife and I caught this on TV during a Disney vacation and we ended up loving it! This turned out to be a blessing, because a while later we had our first kid and she's obsessed with the show (she's going as Bingo for Halloween this year). It's such a cute, charming children's show with relatable messages for both kids and parents, as well as a shockingly good score. It genuinely is one of the best pieces of children's media out there, much better than shlock like Cailou or Peppa Pig (are those shows even still on?).
28. Jackie Chan Adventures
Tumblr media
Cartoons based on celebrities tend to suck balls, but maybe they were picking the wrong celebrities the whole time. Maybe instead of MC Hammer, they should have picked everyone's favorite homophobic, PETA-supporting Chinese nationalist action star, Jackie Chan! This show is literally the Saturday morning cartoon. It really had it all: Wild animated action, mystical artifacts acquired through Indiana Jones-esque adventures. all sorts of crazy monsters and supernatural entities, and memorable characters like my man Tohru, who walked so Prince Zuko could run.
27. Sailor Moon
Tumblr media
I think everyone remembers their first anime, and this was mine. My mom loved the show, so I ended up watching it a lot back when it was airing on the early iterations of Toonami, and it has made me a lifelong magical girl fan. Maybe Cardcaptor Sakura and PPMM did that whole thing better, but neither show had Sailor Mars, my first anime crush. All that aside, the cheesiness and the sheer earnest power of love and friendship that managed to solve every problem is just peak fiction... I just wish it was nearly as good as the manga.
26. Green Eggs and Ham
Tumblr media
If you told me way back when that someday there would be an adaptation of the Dr. Seuss book famous for containing a very limited number of words that expanded on the story, added drama, and threw in a villain who is a blatant spoof of former president and eternal idiot Donald Trump, I think I might have stared at you in utter confusion. And if you told me this show would actually be good, I'd be doubly confused. Thankfully, the show is really damn good, with an impressive cast and good humor that manages to capture the whimsy of the wubbulous world of Dr. Seuss perfectly.
25. Inhumanoids
Tumblr media
I think everyone has a soft spot for an 80s toy commercial, but where most would pick Transformers, My Little Pony, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, my favorite of the lot was this obscure gem of a show. It's such a fun introduction of horror and Lovecraftian abominations to a young audience, and a lot of it is still unsettling and dark to this day. D'Compose will eternally haunt my nightmares between that raspy voice and the gruesome transformations he inflicts on his victims. Good shit!
24. Danny Phantom
Tumblr media
Forget that stupid fairy show, this right here is the best thing Butch Hartman ever put his name on. It's a loving tribute to comic book superheroes in the same way Ben 10 was, but I think this show is ever-so-slightly better due to its blend of supernatural and sci-fi working really well (and also it doesn't retcon all magic as being alien energy or whatever the fuck they did with Gwen in the sequel series). The only thing holding it back from a higher spot is how hilariously bad the finale is and the rather scattershot quality of the final season in general. Too many loose plot threads hanging for my taste.
23. The Boys
Tumblr media
Seth Rogen has seemingly made it his mission in life to adapt all of Garth Ennis' work in a way that makes it not suck ass, and boy am I here for it. Adapting one of Garthy-boy's most repulsive and spiteful works and turning it into a genuinely great superhero show that satirizes celebrity culture instead of just taking a huge shit all over comic book superheroes was really the way to go, and watching Anthony Starr and Karl Urban command the screen every time they take center stage is a blast. Sure, it's still gory and lowbrow, but it's done in a way where it's honestly appealing as opposed to whatever the fuck Ennis was doing.
22. Mystery Science Theater 3000
Tumblr media
I mean, it should be pretty obvious that I love this series, right? If you ever had the misfortune of watching a movie at home with me, you'd know I just do not shut the fuck up and spend a lot of the runtime either pointing out trivia or cracking jokes, and it's mostly because of being inspired by this show. It's also partly because I'm annoying, but that's neither here nor there.
21. Batman: The Animated Series
Tumblr media
No fucking duh this is on the list. This is pretty much the definitive portrayal of Batman for a lot of people, one that truly encapsulates everything the character is all about. Kevin Conroy truly owned the titular role, as did his costar Mark Hamill when it came to the Joker, and as if that wasn't enough this is the show that spawned one of my favorite comic characters, Harley Quinn. There's no denying the impact this show has had on Batman as a franchise, but even beyond that it's just a damn good show with really good writing. I sure am glad one of the guys who made it never went and flushed all the good will he garnered from creating this by constantly having Bruce Wayne lust after one of his teenage proteges!
20. Courage the Cowardly Dog
Tumblr media
This show is pretty well-regarded for how it showcased some truly weird and fucked up imagery, but I don’t think any of that would be as resonant without the moments of tenderness and heartfelt emotion, the genuinely amusing slapstick, or the often clever writing. When it comes to episodic shows, variety is king, and this show has that in spades.
19. The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy
Tumblr media
This show seems to be an answer to a question no one asked: What if they made Family Guy for kids? The black comedy, the negative continuity, the numerous pop culture references, the grossout humor, the musical numbers… it probably wasn’t intentional, but it sure adds up. The biggest difference is that this show is way more consistent in quality and has Jeff the spider, making it the superior show by a mile.
18. Digimon Tamers
Tumblr media
What do you get when you cross the silly monster battles of Digimon with the writing of the man who brought us Serial Experiments Lain and a heaping helping of Lovecraft? You get this show, of course! It’s darker and more psychological than the goofier seasons before it, and while normally I’d balk at a series shifting tone like this, since this was my first ever Digimon cartoon I watched from start to finish I embraced it with open arms. Hell, this show is probably where my love of psychological and allegorical horror came from. And of course the show gave me yet another childhood crush, and if you’ve read the Rhine City stories I co-author you’ll know exactly which character it was.
17. The Twilight Zone
Tumblr media
The brilliance of this anthology series is just the incredibly wide range it has with the supernatural and sci-fi stories. Sometimes you’ll get a resonant and hard-hitting allegory on a social issue, and sometimes you’ll just get a cool, fucked up horror story where some evil little kid can warp reality and holds an entire town hostage to his maniacal whims. I’ve enjoyed every revival they’ve done over the years, but the Rod Serling original just can’t be beat.
16. Stranger Things
Tumblr media
I’ll admit that it’s really the first and fourth seasons carrying this show to #16; seasons 2 and 3 are wildly uneven, with 3 in particular veering close to the shark-jumping ramp with its cartoonish Red Scare stereotypes. But even in the show’s weakest moments, the characters and how they interact with each other have managed to keep me invested. How can I be too mad at season 3 when it gave my boy Steve (the best character) a new BFF, Robin (the other best character)?
15. Elfen Lied
Tumblr media
I think it’s easy to write this show off as overly gratuitous because, well, it is. Everything here is turned up to 11, from the gore and nudity to the drama and tragedy. I kind of feel the same way about this show as I do for V for Vendetta, where if they cut the crucial tragic backstory it would make the work as problematic as the haters say. But with Lucy’s heartbreaking backstory left intact, it definitely elevates the story into something greater. The manga is still (mostly) better, but I have to give the show credit for introducing it to me, and also cutting out the character who constantly pisses herself.
14. Smiling Friends
Tumblr media
Sure, the wacky shitpost humor and the black comedy are great, but can we just stop and marvel at how uncynical the show is? The core concept is a cheerful optimist and a bitter realist work together in a business that helps people be happy, and despite all the hijinks they get into they typically end up succeeding in one way or another. In a world where so many adult animated shows seem to revel in pessimistic nihilism (cough Rick & Morty cough), it’s nice to see a comedy with similar humor but a more optimistic outlook.
13. Ed, Edd n Eddy
Tumblr media
This is one of the absolute funniest shows ever, making great use of the cartoon world to pull off the most wacky slapstick you'll ever see. But I think what truly pushes this series this high is the absolutely fantastic sound effects and music it utilizes. Like, holy shit this show is on another level. It all goes a long way towards making up for the living sexual assault joke that is the Kanker sisters.
12. SpongeBob SqaurePants
Tumblr media
This show dropped almost nothing but bangers for three seasons, gave us one of the best show-to-film adaptations of all time, generated a near endless supply of memes, and was generally just really fucking funny. And sure, it dipped in quality a bit in its middle seasons, but I think the first three to three four seasons are good enough that they can fuck up as much as they want.
11. Invincible
Tumblr media
Gee Amazon, how come you get to have two of the best superhero shows around? Where The Boys is more of a straight deconstruction of superhero tropes, Invincible feels like something of a reconstruction. We still have an evil Superman and morally dubious good guys, but Invincible himself is utterly unyielding in his desire to be good to the point he manages to break down his evil father’s emotional walls and save the world (for the moment) simply by being a loving son. Unwavering goodness even in the face of genuine horror is badass as all hell.
10. Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Tumblr media
Not to be a stereotypical weeb, but this show is simply a masterpiece. Now I will admit, the first half of the show was honestly done way better in the original series, and that one also had some interesting takes on some of the characters once it started diverging from the manga. But this series has a much better finale with way better character moments, with stuff like Envy's final fate hitting harder than anything the original show could muster. There's a reason anime fans suck this show's dick so much; it genuinely is that good.
9. A Series of Unfortunate Events
Tumblr media
I’m sure I wasn’t the only one disappointed that the original movie never got a sequel, so my hopes were high going into the Netflix series. Needless to say, I ended up extremely impressed; considering how they managed to incorporate the VFD plotline from the very start instead of throwing it in later in the series, I might even go as far as to call it an improvement on the books. I think the most surprising thing here is that despite expecting NPH as Count Olaf to steal the show, it’s actually Patrick Warburton’s portrayal of Lemony Snicket himself that brings the whole show together.
8. Peacemaker
Tumblr media
youtube
I think this one speaks for itself.
7. Futurama
Tumblr media
I love all of Matt Groening's shows, from the loose family sitcom shenanigans of The Simpsons to the great overarching plotline of Disenchanted. But it's really not surprising that the middle ground between tightly-plotted continuity and great humor is my favorite of his works. The best part of the show is no matter how many times it ends, it always comes back and finds new ways to bust your gut and tug at your heartstrings.
6. Gravity Falls
Tumblr media
Disney has had many great TV shows in their time, but quite frankly nothing compares to this animated supernatural mystery series about a pair of twins having their summer vacation at a shitty scam shack. The episodes are mainly episodic with hints at the bigger lore, and it doesn't really ever feel like it's dragging its feet. It also didn't overstay its welcome, telling a fantastic story over the course of two seasons before gracefully bowing out while on top. Very few shows can say they ended in top form.
5. Jane the Virgin
Tumblr media
One fine day I came home from work to find my wife watching this on Netflix. Curious, I sat down and watched it, not expecting much... and then proceeded to become so emotionally invested in the show I spent the rest of the series shouting at the screen as if the characters could hear me. It's sweet, funny, and absolutely ridiculous, a loving tribute to the telenovelas that inspired it, and a blessing unto this world for giving us the gift of Rogelio.
4. Avatar: The Last Airbender
Tumblr media
Yeah, real bold and daring of me to say this is probably the best Western animated series ever, but it’s hard to deny that it’s true. With a rich world, excellent characters, and a strong story it’s to the point where the worst episode would be perfectly fine in any other show, and the best episode doesn’t even feature the titular Airbender at all. It’s just that good.
3. Breaking Bad
Tumblr media
You know me, I love character studies of awful people, and few fictional villains are as awful as the egotistical meth manufacturer Walter White. Watching his rise and fall, the numerous moments where he goes further beyond the pale than before, is endlessly gripping, and the fantastic cast of characters helps keep things just as good even if we aren’t following Walt. Mike, Jesse, Gus, Skyler, the Salamancas, Hank, Saul… all of them are fantastic in their own right and could easily carry their own show. Speaking of which, about that last guy...
2. Better Call Saul
Tumblr media
As much as I think Breaking Bad is objectively the greatest show ever, I prefer Better Call Saul. In hindsight, you can kind of tell Walter was bad from the start, but Jimmy “Saul Goodman” McGill? We watch him go from a morally dubious but ultimately well-intentioned man into the sleazy bastard he was in the original show, and it is genuinely heartbreaking. This show makes you truly dread the moment Jimmy fully becomes Saul, and considering how beloved the funny lawyer man was that is no small feat. The story of a good man falling from grace only to ultimately claw his way back to ultimately reclaim his humanity in the end… it’s beautiful.
1. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
Tumblr media
I don’t think I could possibly overstate the influence this series has had on me and my writing. The personalized superpowers, the meaningful names, the numerous musical references, the unashamed embracement of even the most ludicrous elements of the stories… If you read the Rhine City stuff you can clearly see where I’ve let the JJBA influence seep in. But even outside the influence, it’s just a damn good action/adventure series, with no part being truly bad (4 - 6 are my favorites, though). It’s never a dull moment watching what sort of insane feats the Joestar family and their allies will pull off against the increasingly deadly forces of evil; here’s hoping we get to see Steel Ball Run sooner than later.

I'm gonna need ur reaction and thoughts about the RaM finale once you've watched it
I only watched it yesterday so im not gonna have any hot and spicy new takes for yall but ya girl DID have some thoughts lets go (obviously spoiler warning)
thank you SO SO much for asking!! I’m honored that you want my takes<33
Listen I hate to say it but I KNEW IT WAS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!! GOD!!! 😭😭😭
I just need to come out here and say this but first of all I dont think Rick replacing himself was really a bad thing,,,, like at all LMAO especially knowing that it was Rick who made him I mean it was more than just a replacement he was made to be the grandpa he wants for morty but he just knows he can’t be right now.
I can fully understand how it would absolutely feel like a betrayal to Morty but looking at it as a viewer I mean Rick was fully spiraling, to me his intentions were completely pure. Also I thik im just grateful they gave us a time stamp for when the swap was made so we didnt have to wonder forever how much of Rick this season was Rick. He still did piss master, he still kept Jerry blissfully ignorant just out of good will, he STILL WILLINGLY WENT TO THERAPY. All these wouldve been out the window if theyd overlooked that detail.
Tumblr media
Him recognizing that he was starting to go off the deep end again and not only removing himself but having his familys best interest in mind ( “Im no good to anyone until I resolve this” ) while doing so AND literally while mad at Morty is still INSANE character growth from where we started but this way is REALISTIC character growth. It was WEIRD how black and white the difference between literally yhe last two episodes and even just the rest of the season (which has famously been Rick in his peak good grandpa career) was. At some points it felt like I was reading fanfiction.
Tumblr media
(Why do his knees look like that oh my god) Rick is fully capable of recognizing where he can be better, he always has been, he is not stupid *however* he is CLUTCHING onto the idea of being more logical than sentimental by the fucking neck rn. Men will literally build an anatomically flawless ai to be the perfectly calculated percentage nicer to their grandson and to be the man they wish they were before just going back to therapy.
Someone else mentioned this but ill also point out how much I appreciated just seeing Rick working? Like just in his space completely focused building shit with his brain and hands that hit the fucking spot. 9/10 times we only get the finished product and idk if its just me but I love when we SEE Rick living up to the Rick Sanchez tm reputation.
Tumblr media
And Morty... my sweet summer child. It is not at all a shiny new take to say oh he’s so done with ricks shit we all know that but I really really want to point out something that I’m not really sure what point I’m trying to make with but have we noticed almost a switch morty flips when on adventures? He cried because Christmas was ruined like not even a full 6 hours before he was fully ready to kill a man while looking him in the eyes. Maybe the two were cause and effect idk bht I think that’s definitely something present in other episodes too this sorta “just get it done” attitude.
Tumblr media
Also how much he sounded like rick this ep? That whole “don’t be too flattered he’s been actively trying to die” sounded EXACTLY like a Rick line I literally had to play it again. And the complete apathy for robo rick wanting to die until he ACTUALLY lunged himself into the void was also just textbook rick bullshit. Like grandfather like goddamn grandson.
Tumblr media
The ending to me was a little disappointing tbh I think I was hoping for a more,,, structured? Cliffhanger? Like we dk what’s gonna happen in this storyline instead of the introduction to a new storyline yk? MAYBEEE I’m just salty we have to wait another year for more you can’t prove anything.
Rick being borderline manic ab RP at the end was my favorite it’s nice to see him just rant ab anything really and like not make some bullshit elaborate Halloween house to take his anger out but just legit vent ab what this guys been doing to him for the past fucking 40 years. I didn’t even notice the ep was over when the credits rolled in my mind we were only like 10 minutes in and I lost my MIND when mr poopy butthole pulled up again good to see he’s thriving (kinda)
Tumblr media
On a final note when he called him Rick prime please let me know if I’m off but is that not an internet term for him? Like the fandom came up with it? Rick and morty writers are tumblerinas confirmed question mark?
And lastly: Neurotypical. Cooties.

RANT BLOG OF RICK AND MORTY SEASON 7 EPISODE 10
Spoilers under da cut or whateva
And a extreme horribly cringe rant, cringe but free from judgement I am embracing it😔
Jesus, CHRIST.
LITERALLY I SCREAMED, I just. Oh my God!? I WAS LIKE REALLY!? IS DIANE COMING BACK!? but no sadly no.. but the writers gave us something we wanted even tho it wasn't real. BUT HOLY SHIT MORTY ☹️
When his fear was having rick die, I think it was more of a momental fear where it was just more of a concern than fear? But then it turned out to be him not being accepted, I think, THEN it turned out he feared that he'd be replaced ☹️ I think after all this time seeing other versions of morty's dying left and right he'd eventually be replaced too, I mean tell me about it. Rick doesn't need him anymore to kill rick prime right? So maybe post event morty felt less valuable to him that he probably start fearing that one day he'd just die and rick wouldn't care and it's just so sad :( I mean rick is probably morty's first ever friend and someone he can actually trust. And it's just so heartwarming to see both morty's and Rick's development as a duo and as themselves,
Season 1 started off as Rick with one set on goal, to kill rick prime. And concidering morty back then he obviously was so new to all of Rick's antics and so as morty grew up during the seasons he grew more confident and independent from rick
I MEAN HE LITERALLY TOOK A FLYING BIKE TO GO BACK TO DENNYS TO CONFRONT THE GUY would season 1 morty do that!? No! And thats the point
He changed! well he's obviously the same but something about him makes him more confident on himself to actually take lead. He's always the side kick to rick the batman and joker type of duo. But now it's slowly grown to a side kick to an actual equal
And I am just so happy for him (ㅠ︿ㅠ), it's like seeing a best friend grow with you. I mean cmon I've watched rick and morty since I was A TODDLER my cousin introduced it to me once and I've never thought few years later when I'm ACTUALLY morty's age TODAY?, I see him genuinly grow through the years.
BUT THE FACT THAT HE'S SCARED OF NOT BEING ACCEPT KILLS ME, even tho it's not his greatest fear it's still considered as one since the realm responded to it. But still oh my God this showwwwww killlsss meeeee insiiiideee.
AND THE FACT the fact that he's probably a people pleasure to people at school so he'd try his best to comply to other people
Tumblr media
ME RIGHT FUCKING NOW ON MY BED,
AND DO NOT FORGET ABOUT RICK THE END—THE END PART IS WHAT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT MORE.
The fact that morty told rick about Diane and he ran back to the hole to look at it, instead to place morty's picture? HES FREE FROM DESPAIR AND GRIEF AND HE PROBABLY ALREADY ACCEPTED HES NOT GETTING DIANE BACK AND LETTING HER GO AND OH MY GOD I LIVE FOR DIANE AND RICK MOMENTS THEYRE JUST SO SWEET 😭💗 ITS GIVING RIGHT PERSON WRONG TIME AND IT MAKES ME BARF OUT FO SADNESS RICK DESERVES SO MUCH BETTER RAHH
AND WE GET TO SEE MORE OF WHO DIANE WAS AS A PERSON AND GOD STRIKE ME DOWN THE WE NEED MORE DIANE CONTENT.
LIKE ITS GIVING STRONG INDEPENDENT WOMAN X COLD CALCULATED PERSON
AND DIANE PROBABLY WON RICKS RESPECT BY BEING HERSELF AND GOD IM SO IM NOT OKAY THIS ISNT HYPERFIXATION THIS IS JUST PURE OBSESSION
Tumblr media
AND MORTY, HOLY FUCK MAN THIS POOR BOY NEEDS A FRIEND LIKE PLEASE I CAN TREAT HIM BETTER THAN ANYONE COULD THE ABSOLUTE BALLS I WOULD GIVE TO ATLEAST MAKE HIM HAPPY AND LIVE A LIFE HE WANTED WE COULD GO BINGE WATCH MOVIES, SKIP THROUGHT HE CREEKS AND FIND COOL STUFF IN THE FOREST, SNEAK TEST ANSWERS TO EACH OTHER, SHARE MEALS, TALK ABOUT WHAT TYPE OF GIRLS WERE ATTRACTED TOO, WEAR EACH OTHERS CLOTHES CUZ WED FORGET IT IN EACH OTHERS HOUSE, PLAY HORROR GAMES AND TRY SEEING WHICH ONE WOULD PUSSY OUT FIRST BUT MORTY WOULD JUST BE THE TYPE TO DISCONNECT FROM THE GAME CUZ HIS WIFI WOULDVE BEEN SHIT,
Man, I'm really living the life of pure dream scenarios, should probably make more fanfics from that whole rant. ANYWAYS GOT MORE IDEAS SO HERES THE HORRIFINGLY CRINGE RANT BYEEE

I get what youre saying about it coming off too non b n bh like. I think it's cause it's all beavis no butthead, and having like a talking fire, and having a flashback all in one ep. Those are just things the og show didn't really do/do often? But I don't think every ep is gonna be like that, feels like an odd choice for them give us that as a preview.
I think so too! And Imma keep real with you, chief: I feel like the fire bit kinda ran its course.
Like, I get it, Beavis was literally banned from saying that bc of a kid burning down his house and killing his two year old sister and the media blamed it on B&BH (even though it turned out the kid never watched the show and his mom called the news first instead of calling the fire department LMAO) and MTV panicked and did just that. Sure, it was mentioned a few times in the 2011 season and Do the Universe, and Mike Judge seemed really happy about the ban finally being lifted, but the difference between that and the new episode was that in the former media, it was used sparingly. Having a whole episode dedicated to Beavis' obsession with fire seems like it's taking the bit a little too far, and honestly looks like something out of a Rick and Morty episode or something (though I will admit, the flashback of Beavis as a kid is really cute ♥️). Like the episode kind of gives me the vibes of "hey, we know Beavis wasn't allowed to say that back then, but now he can, so what if we did that in a whole episode, wouldn't that be fun?" it just felt like whoever wrote that episode was going too far and stretching it out for what it's worth. Like it's funny, but does it really need a whole episode? Not really, and I don't know why they chose that to showcase at the Comic Con panel yesterday, but I digress. I'm p sure Butthead might appear in that episode (my guess is that in the beginning of the ep, the two of them get into an argument and Beavis heads off his own way, and the whole fire thing is a hallucination of his), but again, as much as I love Beavis, Butthead deserves some recognition too, ya know?
It also kinda reminds me of the 2011 episode, Holy Cornholio, where it takes the whole Cornholio bit, which works better in a 5 minute episode like Vaya Con Cornholio or Buttniks or even a lil bit in both the movies, but not in a 22 minute long episode (aside from the Halloween special, which even that did better than Holy Cornholio). And hell, even THAT was showcased at the 2011 Comic Con panel, it's kind of a funny coincidence, lol.
I'm definitely NOT saying that the reboot is bad by any means. I'm still very much looking forward to it (and some of the episodes shown in the trailer look fun and still give me B&BH vibes!), and I know the first look isn't all that it is, but for now, the first look left me kind of mixed, and I know for sure that when it comes out, I'm gonna have a hard time sitting through this ep ndkfngn

I started watching rick and morty in April and waiting those couple of months for season 5 was bad enough but now I have to wait for at least a year?? After that finale, I'm just itching to watch the next season. Do you have any hopes/predictions for the future seasons?
Oh no!! Thats sucks anon, ;-;. I started watching back when s2 was still airing lol (the break between s2 and s3 was definitely the worst... not only was it the most intense cliffhanger out of all the seasons.... 2 years, dear anon... 2 years ;-;)
Waiting for the next season of ANYTHING always sucks tbh. Hopefully the fics and fanart will tide us over till then :"D
Hopes and predictions huh? Well, this is kind of lame, but uh- I hope Mr Poopybutthole gets back into a better place :"D. I've grown attatched to him and his life after all those post-credits scenes, what can I say?
Ok seriously, though. Well, the little guy who stole the show, Eyepatch Morty, I'd like to see more of him! Whether it be a glimpse into what he's doing, or whether he comes back For Real^TM. I don't mind if this is where his book closes (for us, anyway, it's just beginning for him) though! I was pretty satisfied with how he went out (all those RaMs tho ;-; RIP). I love how he turned out to be not quite so "evil" after all. I do wonder about where he went, what he'll do now. Imagine if we all expect him to go on crazy sci-fi adventures of his own, and he just... settles down in a nice little village with a little cottage and a flower garden lol. Not that I'd blame him after all that ;-;
I have to wonder though, if this means we'll get to see /actual/ alternate versions of the characters. Like a super scientist Beth, or Summer, or Jerry, or even Diane! I doubt it tho lol, but I wonder...
Ooh, for the next season specifically, I'd LOVE to see Rick and Morty getting home. I just think it'd be super interesting for it to be a full-series adventure. Individual episodes with their own plots and senarios, but with an overarching goal. I don't think the show has done that before, so it'd be interesting to see. The portal gun has been used as an easy get-out for the whole series, and episodes where it can be found usually take place on their home Earth (or at least the same dimensions), it'd be interesting to see how they navigate that problem. Although, knowing Rick, he'll have probably found them a way back by the end of the first episode lol. ;-;
We've definitely seen a MAJOR shift in the relationship between our RaM, and I'm excited to see how that goes!! We've been seeing a slow change in their relationship over the course of the series, but this is like *woah*. It feels like two puzzle pieces finally slotting into place. Of course, I don't think it'll be quite so clean haha, I'm sure we'll see the challenges and conflicts that arise with the two becoming a proper partnership.
Honestly, other than that? I can't think of anything I particularly want to see or would expect upcoming! Maybe some more Beth + Summer action haha. (Also I need another Rick and Jerry episode, I love their dynamic lol). I guess I'm just excited to see what tropes and concepts (turned on their head lol) the writers have in store.
If you have any ideas or hopeful expectations of your own, let me know! I'd love to hear them :D

(for whenever you watch the rnm premiere, no pressure) TAKES! WHAT ARE YOUR TAKES? :D i always look forward for your rnm analysis and i came here immediately after watching the episode to see what you think! :)

Ahh, thank you! 💖 I'm glad that you enjoy them that much. That's so flattering.
Anyway, I felt like this episode was a sweeter version of the season 3 premiere. Both episodes featured the citadel, went back to the Earth that Rick destroyed, wrapped up a cliffhanger, hopped around multiple dimensions and involved family dynamics. But the season 3 premiere was all about showing what a horrific monster Rick could be (OK, he was lying when he said he didn't care about Morty and Summer in that episode, but still.)
Conversely, the season 6 premiere is about showing a gentler, more affectionate Rick. He goes back for Morty and doesn't make up a bullshit (and mean) "explanation" like he did in season 3. He and Morty show each other genuine affection, although Rick still pulls back a little. We also get a protective Rick moment when he shields Morty with his body.
Even when he tries, yet again, to claim that he doesn't care about the family, Jerry dismisses him. They all know he's lying. He doesn't try to fight it, either.

Some other stuff I noticed:
Feral Jerry looked like Dan Harmon, lol. I wonder if that was intentional.
I liked how Beth and Space Beth argued, but it didn't come across as "lolz women are so catty and hate each other." They just had personality conflicts and got over it in the end.
Seeing Beth, Space Beth and Summer fighting together was awesome. Girls kicking ass.
One thing I disliked was how the episode wrapped up the season 5 cliffhanger in two minutes. I also had that problem with the season 3 premiere--the aliens (the Federation? I can't remember now) invading Earth left, and that was the end of it. I know this isn't a serialized show, but they could've done a lot with that.
I love the details of Rick pulling back when Morty tries to hug him and tensing when Summer hugs him. He does NOT like being touched. Makes sense for an autistic man (and he's obviously reserved in general.)
Feral Jerry was awful to Morty. Although I guess this is the same guy who basically agreed when Beth said she was happy that Morty and Rick were gone, so no surprise there. But damn, why did he yell at Morty? What happened was Rick's fault, not Morty's. He's a 14-year-old kid. This family really loves taking their shit out on him.
I did NOT expect so many trailer scenes to come from this episode. Totally thought the "cute" thing at the end was from something else, like the Rick and Jerry episode. I also thought that Rick fighting the robots would show up later this season. So we saw even less in the trailer than we thought we did.
What are they hiding from us? Damn. I love how we know nothing about this season.
Also, I guess it's canon now that Rick likes kawaii things, lol. He flat-out says that he picked it up because it was cute. Lolita dress! I want to see him in a lolita dress immediately.
This episode did a great job of showing while the family's learning to be a little nicer, they've still got a lot of issues and resent one another. Beth clearly isn't still thrilled about having kids.
Boy, I did NOT expect Murder Rick (or whatever we're calling him) to be "our" Morty's original Rick. I feel like I might've seen people theorize about that, though? It also makes it kind of strange that Rick destroyed Earth and hopped to another dimension, but maybe he was like "Eh, fuck it, he's not coming back."
I want to wrap this up by saying that I loved how this episode focused on Rick and Morty's dynamic while including the whole family. I was worried that the show was starting to lose sight of Rick and Morty, but their relationship was the heart of the episode.
Rick is still a hot mess, but he's healing and growing and I love him so much 💓

Hoo boy...that episode was a lot. I think I'd have to rewatch it a few times to catch everything, but these were my main takeaways:
I'm kind of disappointed that Rick and Summer went on their first adventure (besides that godawful Gazorpazop episode) just because Rick wanted to make Morty jealous and not because he actually wanted to hang out with her. They had a nice moment together at the end, though. Rick and Summer have a great dynamic, I wish they'd interact more often.
I'm glad to see that the family dynamic is starting to come back into focus. Beth and Morty had great interactions, and we saw the return of Beth using wine to cope. Beth also stopped being nice to Jerry for a second there--maybe the old antagonism is returning.
Man, this show keeps getting opportunity after opportunity to explicitly show Rick's pansexuality, and the writers won't take it. I'm not saying he can't have a preference for women, but come on.
Morty's turning into more and more of a monster. He's standing up for himself, but he's also straight-up killing people without blinking an eye. One day, he's going to kill someone without even trying to justify it to himself.
This show is ramping up the explicit sexual jokes, huh? It's not necessarily a new thing (look at the second episode of the first season), but it's gotten so graphic that they have to straight-up blur the character's expressions and facial gestures, which is...not something I've ever seen in a cartoon before.
I was happy to see Summer have a wholesome moment with Rick that was healthy, genuine and not borne from a weird obsession with him, like the one she had at the beginning of season three.
Interesting that Rick has no problem graphically talking about sex acts in front of his granddaughter, but when Summer says she loves him, he thinks it's "weird." (OK, he was probably just being a hard-ass.)
This might be the first time that Beth's acted motherly toward Morty because she cared about him, not just because she wanted to piss off her father. I guess it took 14 years for her to realize that she wants to have a relationship with her son?
I see that Jerry isn't eating what the rest of the family is eating in that screenshot I used. Instead, he's got toast and a soft-boiled egg. Just a random observation.
Aaaaand my main takeaway from all of this: Rick dragged Summer on an impromptu adventure, went on a drunken, self-destructive bender and rambled on about how love is bullshit just because Morty went on a date with a girl. This also pretty much proves my theory that Rick abandoned the family in "The Vat of Acid Episode" because he couldn't stand the fact that Morty had an important, healthy relationship in his life. Jesus, this guy has issues.
