90 fuckin' Years

HHHHHH I went straight to taking screenshots for this the day Kerry's birthday was confrimed on the 7th XD But cause life is chaotic and I have too many projects all at once it took me a while to finish it. But here we are now!! ;__; And I'm so happy with how it turned out and uuugghhh my feels I cry looking at some of these frames.

So like, the thing is, Kerry is obviously super happy with Vince, despite all the hardships and battles and whatnot. But also, he's still battling with depression, even the most harmonic, loving relationship and love can't fix that (even if it makes things easier sometimes). And the way I interpret Kerry from how he's depicted in game, I imagine especially around anniversaries of any sorts he probably always gets a bit more gloomy.

But the same way Vince is physically recovering here, Kerry is beginning to as well I'd like to imagine! pushing away the bad thoughts and being like "yeah, you know what, it's been a turbulent but a good life and I'm glad I'm still around to have this now". And they're both healing together and yeah ;___;

Making his eyes brown was a spontaneous decision, they're just Photoshopped real quick. But with his whole theme of embracing himself more again (and I also don't think the blue eyes were necessarily his first choice, but probably more a nice brand deal the label pushed on him and he was just like "whatever" in his depressed state of mind) I think he would eventually go back to his natural eye color.

Vince's scars are also photoshopped, although I hope one day when I have him as NPV I can make him a 2078 appearance that has them properly on the model uwu I really like how they turned out though, especially the one at the base of his skull!

But yeh ;__; happy belated birthday old man (who would only be 36 now, and just 5 years older than me shhh). To many more bad decisions that lead to good things in the long run!

Both of them latching onto you, maybe introducing themselves to you as normal human men even. Or you're a sweet thing, so naïve, you're not even scared of them. Maybe you even think you can save them, show them light and purity and compassion. (Nun!reader? 👀)

Them realising that you're completely untouched, might not even pleasure yourself because it's dirty or "you've been taught better" or "it's bad manners" and you're supposed to save yourself for your special someone, and immediately sharing a look that means they know exactly what they're going to do to you.

Touching you slowly, showing you how to kiss, how to touch, how to please them best, moulding you slowly into their perfect toy, their sweet little human who knows nothing except how to make them feel good. Taking you apart slowly, enjoying how you cry from the pain and pleasure, how easily they can overwhelm you with all these new sensations. Scratching you up, biting you, kissing up and down your neck and letting their fangs skim over your skin as you shudder. Binding you in place with their tails or pinning you with huge talons, leveraging their strength against you, slit pupils widening as you squirm and writhe and call their names in your sweet little voice.

Hey... remember that post I made about Kakania's siezen in chapter 6? As I rewatched and transcribed Kakania's speech in 6-24, I noticed that Kakania had switched to using du midway through her monologue and that's just... such a neat detail to me.

Kakania was no longer speaking under any guise or formality or professionalism, she's speaking to Isolde as the friend she thought they always were, as her true self, just as Isolde had been doing with her so long before this. But now that du no longer carries that same tone of comfort and safety, it carries weight, anger, and the despair of a person who has seemingly lost a friend that they have cared for for so long, someone they thought they had known but has now been estranged before their very eyes.

Isolde: Du hast alles gut gepackt (?).

Kakania: Ja. Der Spiegel macht mir Angst, nachdem was passiert ist. Er spiegelt wahrheitsgetrau mein hässliches Gesicht wider, meine abstoßende Seele.

Du hast versucht, die Verzweiflung abzukratzen und die Welt mit deinen mitfühlenden, mitleidigen Händen neu zu formen. Er schuf die Kunst, und du hast sie vervollständigt. Du und dein Bruder sind die Mitgestalter dieses Gemäldes aus Mitleid für diese Welt. Und deshalb war es das einzige Werk, das den Brand überstanden hat. Hab' ich Recht, Isolde?! Sag es mir!

Mit Heinrichs Hilfe habt ihr beiden den Anführer von Manus Vindictae getroffen, ihr habt das Wunder gesehen, euch wurde der Weg zur Rettung gezeigt. Aber der arme Theophil konnte nicht akzeptieren, was ihm gesagt wurde. Wie du, wurde er von seinem noblen, edlen Blut verflucht. Er hatte Mitleid für die Welt, hielt er aber noch an den Privilegien des Adels fest (?). Er wollte nicht mit dem Manus Vindictae arbeiten, aber er wollte auch keinen Krieg. Er hatte seine inneren Kämpfe. Als Begünstigter der Rettung war die Schreiben von Verzweiflung sein einziger Ausweg. Er musste sein Leben nehmen, um den Schmerz zu beenden. Und er wollte, dass du dich ihm anschließt, damit ihr beide gemeinsam von der Qual befreit werdet. Aber er übersah die Tatsache, dass du, im Gegensatz zu ihm, bereits in Verzweiflung lebtest. Alles, was ihm wichtig war, hatte dir nie gehört. Die Zerstörung dieser Welt bedeutete dir nichts.

Isolde: Mein Kopf tut wirklich weh.

Kakania: Also du hast ihm aus Mitleid den Abzug gedrückt.

Isolde: Ich kann nichts sehen. Könntest du bitte das Licht im Raum dimmen?

I...don't know how it's possible to capture the way a fic exists in my mind so perfectly it's like the artist reached into my soul, and yet that's what this feels like. This is one of the most beautiful artworks I've ever seen, and I can't believe it's from my fic, and this fic.

there's an essay jumbled up in my brain about dunmeshi's beginning and how clever and deceptive it is as a sleight-of-hand trick that distracts the audience from the depth and scope of the worldbuilding and foreshadowing that's being set up the entire time by dangling zany characters and wacky dishes and biology fun facts in front of us, and how that serves to catch invested viewers off guard when those elements come to the forefront, but also how it works against it with other viewers wanting "more" and not seeing it because the plot bait isn't laid out up front

how people getting frustrated with the characters "not taking things seriously" is mirrored and refuted in the confrontation between Laios and Shuro. how the characters' attitudes aren't just a result of shallow low-stakes "comedy rules" where nothing matters, but are an extension of their personalities (Laios's nonstandard expression of emotions being offputting even to people he knows) and the world and social environment (adventurers being desensitized to death and injury because resurrection magic is commonplace). the way the party refers to "saving Falin" instead of "retrieving Falin's corpse," indicating that they still see her with full personhood, and how that phrasing leads to some readers/viewers believing that Falin is alive in the dragon's stomach, conscious of being slowly digested while the party carelessly fucks around "wasting time." how the weird tonal dissonance makes sense in-universe and yet is deliberately challenged more and more the deeper the party goes

all the character building and pieces of lore slowly weaving together the shape of the larger world, laying the groundwork for the major themes that will surface later. so much is right there in the "low-stakes" early episodes if you know what you're looking for (or pass the perception checks).

it can be so satisfying to see new viewers/readers pick up on the clues even in the earliest "simple" episodes, or notice new things and make connections yourself....and it can also be frustrating to see people dismiss oddities and dissonance as shallow or bad writing because they don't expect a "cooking anime" to have depth like that. why try to question and understand and peel back the layers when you don't expect there to be any layers?

why can't laios take things seriously for once?
