so I've seen a lot of people who missed Ambrosius's long hair-- which, yeah no that would have been fabulous-- but i think i understand the choice hair choice (finally!!).

at first I thought, you know, he's young so he'll keep it short for the sake of convenience and such. BUT THEN!!! I realized:

Ambrosius is modeled after his voice actor, Eugene Lee Yang, who is Korean, so Ambrosius is obviously also is of some Korean descent as well. His hair is naturally black. But in order to keep up appearances, he dyes/bleaches it blonde. And I think that fits so perfectly with the model minority aspect of Nimona, because it's just another subtle reminder of how people are forced to change themselves to be accepted.

Keeping his hair short, while a bit less fabulous than his Rapunzel look, more clearly conveys the contrast. And maybe they could've just made his roots black (would have done the job well I think?), but the bluntness of the long wavy locks Gloreth once had against the close shave of black has a certain effect to it.

I like to think that, after all is well and they've had an enough months years to heal, Ambrosius would stop dyeing his hair, and grow it out. Let those long locks shine, baby.

(this is not to say that hair dyeing is bad, which i'm not sure this is implying but just in case. Ambrosius not dyeing his hair is for more Symbolic TM purposes than a stylistic choice, which I'm not sure he's gotten to make given gems been bleach blonde since he was young)
