The choreo is just genius. It's the story in and of itself. It's art. Bodies used as instruments.

It's about the way they use their hands during the whole song. So much is expressed through hands. My favourite is when they lift their fists up and open them finger by finger once Jimin sings his first "Set me free". Anther favourite is this little shake of the hand Jimin does before the running part.

It's also a contrast between fast and slow, very contained (isolations, tense muscles) and relaxed. You can see the contrast between the beginning and the second half where first Jimin's moves are very tense, very concise isolations, but when he sings the line about it being his prime time, his moves are more loose and relaxed.

The butterfly move is just... again the contrast between fluid and sharp.

And the ending with Jimin being circled and then lifted, all I can say is it's genius. Everything about this choreo is my favourite part and I'm scared of what Like crazy will be like if this is the starting point.

"She is just so- argh!" I said while pacing back and forth frustratedly. Ling and Audrey just watched me with amused expressions.

"Why not just give her a chance? She's already showing a consistent effort towards you." Ling said, and Audrey agreed with Kirsten's statement.

"The word 'no' is not in her vocabulary!" I exclaimed. Just then a knock is heard, Audrey opens the door revealing Tatter.

"Hi Y/n unnie! Bada unnie said to give you this." She handed me a jacket with a number '22' in it.

"What is she planning now?" I asked Tatter but she just shrugged her shoulders.

"Just tell her I said thank you." Tatter nodded and left the room.

"See? Consistent." Ling said after Audrey closed the door.

"I call it obsession. She copied some of my poses on my Instagram posts, when I post a story she will post the same thing, she will even copy my captions?!" I said angrily.

"Shouldn't you be feeling lucky? Everybody has their eyes on her but her eyes are set on you." Audrey said making me sigh. Kirsten comes in, looks like their done.

"How was it?" I asked.

"Yeah, we're doing Bada's." Kirsten said and looked at me with a teasing face.

"Stop that."

"You lose your bet." Kirsten said while chuckling.

"Come on! Just one date?" Bada said while watching me practice with arms crossed.

"I told you, I'm busy throughout the week." I said and stopped dancing. I grabbed my water which is beside Bada and drank it.

"Aren't you mean enough towards me? Just one date and done." Bada said while staring at me.

"Alright then..." I said making Bada surprised that she straightened her back.

"On one condition..." I turned towards Bada and smirked.

"I will agree to be on a date with you if your choreography gets picked and you got selected as the main dancer." Bada smirked while shaking her head. She cupped my chin and her other hand on my waist. This woman knows my weaknesses.

"You underestimated me, babe." Bada said.

"Is it already starting?" I said indicating the main dancer competition for the leaders.

"I think, yeah." Ling said.

"I'll follow you there." Ling nodded and went ahead. I was about to close the door when my eyes landed on the jacket that was given by Bada. I sighed, grabbed the jacket and put it on. The jacket even has a 'Lee' on it at the back above the '22'.

I went to the set and saw the leaders warming up. I saw Tatter pointing towards me with her eyes at Bada, Bada turned her head and smiled at me as I went down the stairs.

I sat beside Latrice and she smirked while analyzing the jacket.

"Nice jacket." I rolled my eyes and slapped her shoulders.

"It's a gift." I said.

"I know, I can tell from the surname at the back." Latrice chuckled at my flustered state. I covered my face and leaned down.

"Who's choreography has been chosen?" Shownu asked through the mic.

"It's mine, Bada." Bada's students cheered making me smile in admiration.

"As the leader, I wanted to show our physical strength and aura. The powerful side of us. I considered what I think is the most important, which is the dance you want to try. There's a move of lightning a lighter. I tried to put those kinds of things in the choreography." Bada said with a lot of confidence.

"And Kirsten, was there anything hard during the practice?" I looked at my leader in curiosity.

"Dance, again, is the universal language. There weren't any difficulties, I think." I clapped lightly, satisfied with her answer.

The showdown begins and as expected from the leaders, all of them are good. My eyes somehow always come back at Bada's figure, her body control screams ownership of her choreography. Part of me wants Kirsten to steal it but at the same time, it sucks when someone stole the choreo you worked hard for, right?

The time came where Kirsten and Bada. The judges chose Bada and she immediately turned towards me and smirked. Kirsten and Bada hugged and even kissed Kirsten's cheeks which surprised me. Some of the dancers glanced at me as they know that Bada is pursuing me.

"Alexa, play 'jealous' by Nick Jonas." I nudge Latrice's shoulders. Bada's members went to hug her to congratulate her. Me and the rest also went Kirsten and hugged her tightly.

"It's alright Leader, you still slayed." I winked at her and Kirsten chuckled.

"Yah! Y/n L/n!" I turned towards where the voice came from and saw that it's Bada.

"You still owe me a date!" All of the people in the room began to scream, including the judges. Bada's members and mine make us go forward to be close at each other. Bada opened her arms for me but I got a little hesitant. Emma pushes me instead, making me crash at Bada. Bada gives Emma a thumbs up while laughing.

"Why bother announcing it when you know I have no choice?" I looked up and our eyes met.

"Just in case you forgot about it." She said and pecked my cheeks. The crowd went wild again, some even jumped. I cover my face with my hands and bury my face on Bada's chest. Bada just lets me, enjoying the situation I'm in.

The Rose (k-rock)

i love them. They are super funny on social media, and their music is incredible. Screaming this song at the top of my lungs fixes me a little every time. Woosung is also a soloist and he's amazing.

i know i already talked about them a little bit, but i have to do it again because i love them. just a bunch of insanely talented, stupidly hot weirdos. i love that they're all nerds who make legos together and that everyone but hongjoong and jongho have zero concept of personal space. wooyoung and san are medalists in the kiss your homie olympics. (woo is also bffs with changbin and also yeonjun from txt)

i'm still obsessed with this song and this MV. the ateez lore is very intricate and this is basically cinema.

i am obsessed with OOO. they are incredible. they do most of their own choreo, they committed to making their MVs queer af and include messages of acceptance and support for the lgbtq community in the notes for all their videos. they paired themselves up and talk about kissing each other casually.

and they back it all up with high concept MVs, insane choreo, and great music that will absolutley get stuck in your head. picking a song was hard, but this choreo is too iconic

i am obsessed with her. she is also in mamamoo, who are great, but i am currently absolutely obsessed with her cover of lunch. but this song which is a pretty direct call out of the rampant body shaming in the industry is so much fun.

KARD

kard is the only mixed gender kpop group i know of, and we need more.

they are all adults, and their music and MVs are, too. killer dancey tracks. their friendship is a lot of fun.

BM is also a soloist, and has some very explicit horny songs that don't bother with the (barely) innuendo that kard plays with. he's also hilarious on SM, and on the daebak show

First Note Of Love: First Thoughts

Episodes 1 & 2 dropped on GagaOOLala and Viki today and oh man this is even better than I'd hoped. I am a sucker for a music BL, and I love so much of this cast (Charles from History 4; Michael from My Tooth Your Love; and I didn't realize this but Liu Min Ting from Guardian is in this?!!!).

This series is beautifully produced so far; I was impressed by the camera work and background music (I always love when a BL is scored rather than relying on preset background music--no shade, but a custom score always elevates a show) as well as the characterization and plot; everything this show is doing it does well.

The story is starting in a heartbreaking place (@lurkingshan made an excellent summary post here), and the show is so, so good at grounding us in the character's trauma and emotional pain even as Neil mostly acts defiant and lackadasical. His depression feels real, and I love that we're starting the main timeline of the show enough years later that it's realistic Neil is ready to move on (6 years from his brother Matt's death) and that there are external drivers for why he has to move on now, but also that it's not a sudden and instant fix.

I also love that Sea was a fan of Magnet (Neil and Matt's band) and his so hurt by his first interaction with Neil as a musician was palpable. This show seems to really understand trauma, and it also really understands music, and fandom, and the way music heals and forms connections and also encourages parasocial relationships and can be massive pressure. The relationship that both of these characters have with music is complicated, and I'm excited to see that play out as they build a relationship with each other.

And even though these emotions are complex, the show is moving pretty quick, and is fun. We are grounded in Neil's trauma but are also continually pulled out into lighter moments that keep reminding us this show is about hope and healing. it's not a heavy watch, even though there are heavy subjects. It's doing a good job of maintaining a balance without feeling like it's not taking these heavy subjects seriously. I was impressed!

I'm also obsessed with Mei and her excellent styling and hair choreo, I hope we get to see more of her.

Finally, the music is really good and I'm so excited to have another set of music BL OSTs to obsess over!

The Killa Choreography: Commentary and Analysis

So, the day has arrived where we finally know what The Killa looks like on stage! It was Yeonjun and Soobin's first time performing this unit song, and we all knew it would be something sexy when it was released last month. If you don't know the song, well, you don't even need to take a glance at the lyrics to catch the vibe. But in case you're curious, there's lines like "tame me and fill me up with you" and "you're dominating me" so…you can imagine what sort of attention this track got and the anticipatory hype leading up to the concert. It seemed every fan had one question on their mind, namely What would this performance look like? 

What I find interesting about this stage is that it easily could have been a track paired with sensual choreography for the audience - you know, your standard kpop fan service platter full of the Sexy Boyfriend fantasy where fans are meant to believe their idols are singing about wanting them. And yet it took a surprisingly creative direction by yes, clearly having a sensual dance with your typical kpop fan service elements, but (contrary to my expectations!) communicating first and foremost a sensual story through the choreography. Let's take a look.

The choreo starts with Soobin and Yeonjun approaching each other from opposite ends of the stage, wearing opposite colored clothing (black and white). More on that in a moment. First, I'd like to direct your attention to the screen behind them, which depicts large mirrors encasing their walk on the stage.

The utilization of mirrors as a visual design feature is really cool for a track containing this much lust because mirrors, while symbolically serving many purposes, tend to represent the duality of self: we check the mirror to assure that who we see in the reflection is an acceptable version of us who we can present to the world; that nothing noticeably flawed or unsatisfactory comes beneath the surface. As such, mirrors force us to acknowledge our duality and assuage our two opposing sides (light and dark). There's a quote I really love by Michelle Arch that captures this sentiment well: "Through mirrors we see our cognizant, social, 'better' self and the natural world in which we live, while also glimpsing, and sometimes succumbing to, the darker, depraved image of our subconscious 'second' self and the frightening, otherworldly realm in which it resides". 

Given that this song relies heavily on communicating lust and our narrator's obsessive desire to be controlled - what one would consider the dark and depraved subconcious - the use of mirrors alongside the clothing color contrast was an excellent creative choice! While color theory suggests that white is a typical color for innocence, and black is characteristic for, well, all things dark and corrupt, I think this color choice was used more strongly to represent the opposite push and pull energy we're about to witness between them, as well as the aforementioned duality they exhibit.

Once they reach each other on stage, Soobin gently reaches out and rests his hand below Yeonjun's chin. Then, in sync with the beat, he gracefully glides his hand away while singing "Tame me, please", as Yeonjun's gaze follows his hand.

This moment intrigued me not just because it's that typical txt homoeroticism coming through lol but because it sets up a story. A fan on Twitter made an exciting point, namely that Yeonjun, by hypnotically following Soobin's hand, is the character in this performance who is initially being tamed. And so starts a cat and mouse chase of each character confessing their desire and tantalizingly pushing and pulling away from each other.

They break away from each other but Yeonjun keeps his eyes on Soobin as his body is sliding away. He sings: "I'm craving it more and more, you know I want you bad, show me mercy"

Right before we transition to Soobin's part, they point at each other and say "The moment that we found each other in our eyes".

I thought the pointing at each other was significant because this easily could have been turned into a kpop fan service thing where they point at the audience while saying those lines, but instead this motion acknowledges that they're referring to each other, further emphasizing that this is a performance between two impassioned characters who are seeking each other. Soobin says right after this "Want you to tame me now [...] I'll serve you." It's clear now that this is a conversation.

They slowly move towards one another and I absoluteoy love the detail of Yeonjun grabbing the hem of his shirt as if he's being involuntarily pulled towards Soobin.

When they are within reach of each other, Yeonjun glides his hand across Soobin's chest and they both delve into the chorus choreography.

The chorus part feels more fan servicey to me because rather than facing each other, they are side by side hip thrusting while facing the audience. Perhaps it would've gotten a touch too erotic if they went there lol (after all wasn't the age requirement for his conert 9 and up or something??).

They transition out of the chorus by circling one another and sizing each other up.

Then they whip out the finger guns at each other once again while the lyrics center again on wanting to be dominated and it's "only you". If that weren't enough, they point at each other AGAIN repeatedly during the series of "you, you, you"s playing in the song.

I'm also a little in love with the detail of Soobin placing his hand on Yeonjun's shoulder as Yeonjun sings "Yes, I belong to you". I'm reaching my image limit so I'm just going to include a nice mirroring detail towards the end where Yeonjun rests his hand on Soobin's shoulder, an apparent callback to earlier. Perhaps a confirmation that these characters affirm they now belong to each other?

In conclusion, this performance surprised me more than I expected (and I know they'll get a bit more bold for this stage once they hit their US tour stops). I know that some could argue that placing two members into a sensual choreography with each other is a form of fan service and I agree to an extent, but I'd also counter by saying that that perspective disregards the creativity and craft put into the choreography. This isn't sexy for the sake of being sexy. It's sexy because it's intertwining the song's overt sensuality with characters embodying that lust.

Overall, I'd say the choreography has shifted my perspective of the song. I used to see it as one voice communicating wanting one abstract idea of a person but now I see Soobin and Yeonjun's verses as two separate conversations that their characters are having with each other. Everyone thank our little freak Taehyun for contributing to the songwriting on this. Gonna have to find out who to thank for the choregraphy. In the meantime, did you notice anything in the performance that I didn't touch on that you wated to discuss? How about screaming into the void with me? Modern AU Headcanons

For all 7 of my ocs!! :3

all of their ethnicities/nationalities are canon to the ALNST universe too, but theyre just more applicable in a modern au.

The artwork I did for each of them isnt fully colored like how i originally planned, simply because this took FUCKING FOREVER. (17 hours??? all 7 ocs just to this basic color with 17 hours and 25k strokes??? according to procreate???) and i was so ready to be done with it, ive been talking about this for like ages and i knew that if i didnt finish this before Blink Gone dropped,,,, itd never get finished.

i also have other stuff i need/want to work on in regards to my ocs SO. if the art looks half-assed, im calling it a design choice 🎀

Toki (Redone):

He'd be a dancer that runs a choreography channel on youtube and tiktok. A really popular/famous content creator.

He's Asian! (South Korean)

Fluent in English/Korean.

Would probably face a lot of controversy for making strange jokes about cannibalism, but he never stays down when cancelled. (hes so schlatt core)

He's not a horrible person in a modern au. He's relatively normal, if not for the fact that he is still an orphan and still clinically mentally ill. He's just not toxic. He still has his cunt and freak but... he just doesn't manipulate, mansplain, and manslaughter anymore.

He's only toxic and awful as hell in ALNST because of the dystopian circumstances. His toxicity is seasoning to the tragedy that is ALNST.

He is still an orphan and his first memories would be in the orphanage where he was pretty much alone. People thought he was strange.

I'd like to believe he was selectively mute for quite a long time, which was another reason why people called him strange.

Still has the habit of studying peoples behaviors and learning them entirely for his own benefit. He wouldn't use it against someone unless absolutely necessary in a modern au.

He gets adopted when he's 13 by a kind, older man. He homeschools Toki and puts him in sports and recreational activities of his choice.

Toki chooses gymnastics and dance, contorting and moving his body at his will gives him a sense of control that he always felt he was never privileged to.

He didn't start talking until he was 16. His first words were, "Thank you, dad."

As an adult, as I said above, Toki runs a choreo channel on tiktok and youtube that gets a lot of traction. He enjoys having fans because it makes him feel less alone.

He's still possessive over Inna, but it's only because Toki struggles with feeling a sense of belonging and a home to come back to, and Inna becomes that home for him.

He has a streetwear aesthetic!

Of course, Toki still has his obsessive and possessive personality, that will never go away. It ends up rearing his head towards Inna, but I'm pretty sure Inna likes it anyway, the 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴.

Didn't go to college because his socmed took off before he graduated, sustaining him really well financially.

Friends with Ichor! Travels to Korea with him sometimes, but usually prefers to stay in America since that's where he was taken to when he was adopted.

He is Latino! (Dominican/Caribbean)

His right eye is a lazy eye and he wears glasses. They're silver round frames that he sometimes puts a neck chain on.

His hair is dyed the same, but the dark brown is really short and cut to be fluffy/messy while keeping his long sides/short bangs!

He has a dark academia aesthetic mixed with a little bit of cottagecore. He's a lot more comfortable in his skin in regards to his gender so he wears skirts and dresses sometimes.

Spends his time at the library a lot, enjoys library dates with Aster (and also coffee shop dates).

He is fluent in Spanish and English.

He only has his ear lobes pierced and keeps small silver studs in them at all times.

Still trans, of course! He gets top surgery and a hysterectomy in a modern au (projecting what I personally want lmao)

All of his siblings are alive, and are still all named after flowers!

His upbringing was really peaceful, if not for having a very alive and loud household with 6 kids, him included.

His parents and siblings are all incredibly accepting and they all helped pitch in to get his top surgery done for his birthday one year <3

He inherited his parents flower shop and runs it now! His parents own the parent company to the flower shop, so all 6 children own one of said shops around the state!

He majored in Biology in college.

A lot of the neglect and trauma he faced in ALNST/ANAKT was only specific to the universe. He would lead a relatively normal and peaceful life, otherwise :)

Horizon:

He is American!

Horizon is incredibly smart and is an astrophysicist! He took it in college and has been hyperfixated on space since he was a kid.

Is the most visibly/recognizably autistic OC out of all of my OCs. All of my OCs are neurodivergent in some way because of my own neurodivergency, but Horizon takes the cake because his modern au mother (based on Scorpius) is also autistic. She raised him to not be forced into a mask.

Scorpius is a single mom and loves space as well, teaching Horizon all about it when he was a kid. Over time she grew more distant and would only connect with her son when its about his interest in space, or in regards to what happens at NASA.

Horizon is aware of his mothers distance and neglect and wishes things could go back to when he was a kid and she wasn't so distant.

He is still a narcolept, but is medicated and in physical therapy to help combat it.

He works at NASA! He makes good money and has discovered a lot of new stars!

He's more vocal in a modern au! He'd still go nonverbal a lot, but he'd also open up more and be less distant.

He still yaps about stars and space as much as possible.

He does not have stars in his eyes. I kinda feel like that goes without saying, but he does have dark grey-blue eyes.

Fond of Seraph and likes to study it. Fully aware something is wrong with it and that it definitely does not belong in his world, but finds it intriguing all the same.

Does not have a set dress style, he mostly dresses for comfort. He does have a lot of NASA merchandise and space/galaxy themed clothing, though. (would 100% have that blue and pink galaxy wolf hoodie at one point)

Seraph:

Still not human, and I will not elaborate as to why!

Also still uses He/Hy/It (Hy/Hymn).

It's a lot creepier in a modern au, actually. This is because the dystopian setting of ALNST makes it a bit more... usual and acceptable for Seraph to be uncanny? However, in a modern au... that's not the case.

People do NOT vibe with it more often than not.

Hy is British.

He is still albino with void-like eyes.

It majors in psychology and went to the same college as Horizon. This is related to his special talent,,, but that isn't released yet. :)

Still horribly enamored with Horizon and follows him around and studies him.

Horizon doesn't mind hymn and honestly knows somethings not right with Seraph, but he doesn't really care and actually likes to study Seraph back. (and seraph couldnt be happier about it, tbh)

Not a lot changes about Seraph, in all honesty. Hy doesn't really belong in the ALNST universe, what makes you think hy'd belong in the modern universe?

The things that do change, like it's echoing voice and it's staticky/distorted laugh, are gone because it personally stopped using them.

It's style is... elegant goth with some... cyber goth? Kinda strange and hard to describe but he does understand the morals and values of goth culture and music and upholds those values.

Lowkey an anarchist but you didn't hear that from me.

He is Horizon's roommate.

Seraph likes to believe their mutual studying of each other is what a romantic relationship entails.

Horizon spoils Seraph a lot... he has to do something with the money he gets from NASA.

He still does not like animals or Ichor.

Ichor:

He is still a catboy. He's not even like... a kemonomimi. He's just a fucking catboy.

If not an actual catboy, he would be a therian and/or kemonomimi. (kemonomimi directly translates to animal ears i believe? kemonomimis are just people who enjoy wearing animal ears/tails.)

He is also Asian! (South Korean)

Has a lot of mixed aesthetics, but enjoys crossdressing (in a cute way) and ouji fashion/lolita.

Autistic with selective mutism and is nonverbal more often than not. He is fluent in both ASL and KSL as well as spoken English/Korean. This is canon to the ALNST universe, but he is fully mute in canon.

Would probably be a professional gymnast. I'm talking like Olympics... professional.

Takes the fame from being a professional gymnast and becomes a content creator to show off his impeccable fashion sense.

100% dating and smitten with Briar. I'm assuming Briar would be a doctor in a modern au (akane, you can correct me if I'm wrong), and if that's the case, then Ichor would make a bunch of "woe is me, I need a doctor" jokes to Briar.

He'd immediately go to Briar if he gets hurt during performances.

Would actually be friends with Toki!! Both as a content creator and as a gymnast. They would get along very well due to overlapping interests, even more so when Ichor learns that Toki was mute for a long time.

Sometimes takes up gigs/jobs as a Sign Translator for both KSL and ASL.

All of his hair is naturally white! He was based off of a white Turkish Angora cat, and since his hair was dyed against his will in ALNST, that wouldn't be the case in the MAU. He's only pink in his art because that's his color <3

She is Creole and born and raised in Louisiana!

Fluent in both Cajun French and normal French. She was a French immersion kid! (as in she learned french as she learned english in school growing up)

An amazing cook and loves to cook for her family and friends.

Has a brother and a sister, but she is the oldest. She loves her family and is very protective over them, same with her friends.

A big party-goer and social butterfly, she is the life and light of the party. She stays humble about it, but she can't deny how nice it makes her feel that people like her so much.

Dominates karaoke like it's no ones business. She loves singing and was in the church choir growing up.

She grew up Catholic, but is currently Agnostic.

Still a lesbian, and is very open about it. She is a strong advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and goes to as many Pride Parades as possible during pride month.

Her favorite way to wear her hair is super long box braids with bright colored weave, usually orange or red, but she's done the whole rainbow before!

Is really good friends with Clove! She knows him through Everest, who had befriended him in overlapping college courses. Clove approached Everest and became friends with him before she introduced Clove to Lys. They all like to hang out together :]

Still feels 60% femme and 40% masc with very little in between. Doesn't mind being referred to as androgyne, but prefers either or, rather than in between.

She is sapphic and horribly in love with her girlfriend, Lys.

Is a lot less morally grey in a modern au and is a lot more like Luna Lovegood, one of her inspirations.

His morality in ALNST comes from the dystopian setting, being used as a toy for the segyein after winning, and being a pet in general. Since that doesn't happen in the modern day, he doesn't have that trauma to influence him.

She takes second place on most visibly autistic. (Ichor takes third)

Majored in Chemistry and wants to be a chemist.

Comes from a pretty wealthy family and was raised prim and proper. Her parents believed she'd be better off presenting as a boy, but once she realized her autonomy, she refused it entirely and told her parents that she will live how she wants and that her body is hers to dictate.

Her parents don't like that she switches back and forth between masc and femme, but she could not give less of a fuck and honestly does it a little bit out of spite.

He still loves his parents... kinda. He has the mentality of "they gave me life and raised me, I should be grateful andlove them all the same." He just wishes they weren't so bitchy over his body and what he does with it. They can't say anything either considering he plans on being a chemist, and they're both very fond of the idea that their child is smart and will bring in more money.

They're also lowkey homophobic and only give Lys a pass because they see Everest as a boy more often than not. They still don't quite like Lys because she is a full lesbian/sapphic and sees Ever as femme.

Enjoys travelling a lot!!

Has a socmed presence through Lys and appears as a duo with her a lot. People love them together and give them a lot of the stereo contrasting ship types (fire/ice, blue/red, black/white, etc)

It not famous on her own! I don't think she would actively seek out a socmed presence of her own and would be content with being featured on Lys' socmed. He was only famous in ALNST for winning s36, he did not ask for that.
