Titan will LITERALLY become "the middle earth".
Like, once the Sun becomes a red giant, Saturn will not only be the middle planet of the system, but his orbit will be in the new goldilocks zone. That means Titan's orbit will also be in said zone, which sounds GREAT until you think about it.
Because what if humanity is still around by that time? I severely doubt that after billions of years they still haven't tried colonizing Titan. Once the Sun becomes big enough, even terraformed Mars would be EXTREMELY close to the star and the heat would most likely force the earthlings to abandon Mars's surface entirely. Unless they came up with some insane, sci-fi technology, but let's assume that even if they do, the heat would be unbearable. Plus, by that point Mars could have already been polluted to hell and back, so the earthlings would have to look for a new home either way.
I don't think the earthlings would see Titan as their only option. Jupiter's orbit would also be in the goldilocks zone, even if it was on the warmer side, so Ganymede and Europa could also be good options. Other moons could also become habitable, who knows! But I feel like Titan would be THE earthling colony.
And I don't think Titan would like that.
He wouldn't push the earthlings away, of course not. They're in need of a shelter (AKA a celestial body) in order to survive and Titan is their best option. Plus, Titan might even have a bit of a soft spot for humanity at that point in time, since they're Earth's life and Earth isn't around anymore. Plus, it was an earthling astronaut that discovered life on Titan's surface, even if said astronaut was forced to do it. Titan has to lend them his surface, it's the right thing to do.
But Titan has life too, doesn't he? And a few billion years is more than enough time for it to evolve, become sentient, even! But Titan won't be able to see it grow and shape it's own identity. The earthlings will be there, and they will leave their mark deeply. Sure, maybe Titan's life will develop it's own languages, cultures, holidays, even religions. But in the end, the similarities with the earthling culture would be so obvious that Titan's natives might as well be an earthling country, and not a whole other species. He will become "the middle earth" even to the creatures that crawled out of his oceans. It would be hard not to feel bitter.
To celestial objects, he was Saturn's favorite moon. To the life forms, he's a replacement for Earth. He's always in someone's shadow, nothing is his.
And I feel like he wants something that is his. I think that's why he wanted to start the moon strike in the first place. He wanted to show that he's more than the people around him, that he is strong and kind and compassionate. So people think about him as the leader of the moon revolution, the president of the moon club, the first moon to develop life. So people look up to him.
He constatly acts like he's the morally superior one that does no wrong, it's why he villainizes Ganymede and Europa in the moon club arc. Now that people are looking at him and not his titles, he wants them to see him as his best self. He's not pretending to be a good person, either! He genuinly wants to help people because that's the right thing to do.
But maybe, when millions, if not billions of earthlings are crammed on his surface like sardines, drilling and exploiting and ripping him open, Titan would wonder if it was all worth it.
#thanks for listening to me ramble <3#im making the earthlings sound like. super evil here lol#but that last part + Mars being super polluted are just worst-case-scenario stuff#i like to imagine that Computer and/or SAR will still be around since they could technically be immortal if they replaced their old bodies#and Computer is just really into being eco-friendly and preventing as much harm to Titan's surface as possible#in Astrodude's honor🥹#and do not get me STARTED on SAR i have so many thoughts on how this robot would deal with all of this and i cannot articulate any of them#i would need to beam the vibes straight into your brain#solarballs#solarballs titan#solarballs earthlings#actually is the word “earthlings” or “earthling” supposed to be capitalized or not#idk so i'm not capitalizing it#it looks correct™#raspberry stash

Books of 2024: September Wrap-Up.
Delighted to report I am VERY far behind on my NaNo prep reading goals, and now September is gone (oops). However! This month I did manage to carve nine (9) pages out of a behemoth scene, write a newsletter article for the nonprofit I volunteer at, and alpha/hype read a friend's manuscript, so I still had a fairly wordy month (I say, as if all of my months are not Wordy™).
Photos/reviews linked below:
THE HAUNTED BOOKSTORE, Vol. 1 & 2 - ★★★½ These were cute! I liked them enough that I went ahead and ordered the next two volumes, and I'm glad I did--turns out there are only four manga in the series, so I'll have the whole thing :) I plan on returning to these after November/as part of Driscoll prep again, because they match the vibe I'm trying to channel really well.
CITY OF SAINTS AND MADMEN - ★★★½ (rating subject to change upon series completion) So on my shelf, this book doesn't LOOK like a brick, but it's 704 pages (according to Goodreads, because the pages in the back half of the book are not numbered sequentially lmaooo). It's told in several novellas strung together and then An Appendix full of all sorts of (sneakily?) relevant bits and pieces--fascinating anthology of a book, very meta-textual. It grew on me! If you can get through the first story, it's worth sticking with, and the whole series is turning into a puzzle box. And speaking of...
SHRIEK: AN AFTERWORD - 135/451 pages read; will report back later. I definitely had to dual wield CITY and SHRIEK last night to compare passages that are, in fact, duplicated across books, and I feel like the calculus meme about it. This one is structured interestingly, too: It's written by a sister (first person) about her brother, but the brother is annotating her manuscript in his own first person (in parentheticals wedged into or tacked onto paragraphs, also first person). I'm very excited to finish this, and equally excited to see what's going on with FINCH after that, so. Back to reading I go!!
Under the Cut: A Note About ~*★Stars★*~
Historically, I have been Very Bad™ about assigning things Star Ratings, because it's so Vibes Heavy for me and therefore Contingent Upon my Whims. I am refining this as I figure out my wrap up posts (epiphany of last month: I don't like that stars are Odd, because that makes three the midpoint and things are rarely so truly mid for me)(I have hacked my way around this with a ½). Here is, generally, how I conceptualize stars:
★ - This was Bad. I would actively recommend that you do NOT read this one, no redeeming qualities whatsoever, not worth the slog. Save Yourself, It's Too Late For Me. Book goes in the garbage (donate bin).
★★ - This was Not Good. I would not recommend it, but it wasn't a total waste or wash--something in here held my interest/kept my attention/sparked some joy. I will not be rereading this ever. Save Yourself (Or Join Me In Suffering, That Seems Like A Cool Bonding Activity).
★★★ - This was Good/Fine/Okay/Meh. I don't care about this enough to recommend it one way or another. Perfectly serviceable book, held my interest, I probably enjoyed myself (or at least didn't actively loathe the reading). I don't have especially strong feelings. You probably don't need to save yourself from this one--if it sounds like your jam, give it a shot! Just didn't resonate with me particularly powerfully. I probably won't reread this unless I'm after something in particular.
★★★½ - I liked this! I'll probably recommend it if I know it matches someone's vibes or specific requests, but I didn't commit to a star rating on Goodreads. More likely to reread, but not guaranteed.
★★★★ - I really enjoyed this!! I would recommend it (sometimes with caveats about content warnings or such--I tend to like weird fucked up funny shit, and I don't have many hard readerly NO's). Not a perfect book for me by any means, but Very Good. This is something I would reread! Join me!!
★★★★★ - I LOVED THE SHIT OUT OF THIS, IT REWIRED MY BRAIN, WILL RECOMMEND TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE AT THE SLIGHTEST PROVOCATION (content warning caveats still apply--see 4-star disclaimer). Excellent book, I'll reread it regularly, I'll buy copies for all my friends, I'll try to convince all of Booklr to read it, PLEASE join me!!

i have so much unwritten ria angst but this is okiria in the hypothetical spinoff that exists in my beautiful mind palace. peace and love
#i've said before that ria actively chooses her optimistic mindset but i want her to kind of crack tbh.#i really love gintama bc it is a story about traumatized people and how they can just be normal every day people#they can be silly and goofy but that doesn't mean they aren't traumatized too#and the main reason i haven't written anything officially is a) it feels so indulgent and b) i haven't decided EXACTLY what makes her break#but tbh all the mizu5 posting on twitter has me thinking about the silly happy characters that mask their sadness just full on shattering#and i'm like damn. i gotta let ria have that moment#⚔️ show your fangs#🐈⬛ nice to meet you earthling

20 or 27 for Hensper? Your choice, or maybe you can include both? Up to you! Thanks!
It's only fair, after all of the hard work that Henry does in a day, that he deserves to sleep. Jasper doesn't even mind that he's chosen to pass out with his head in his lap. He lay down about a half hour ago when he came into the Man Cave, and told him he wasn't going to sleep, he just had a sore head and needed to rest his eyes.
He's been dropping in and out since then. He keeps mumbling that he's awake and tells Jasper to pick up the conversation where he dropped it when he noticed his eyelids going.
'Why don't you just go home?' Jasper asks. 'You know, to get some real sleep? In your bed?'
Henry scrunches up his face and shakes his head. He reaches up like he's trying to literally swat him away but instead just sort of ends up... caressing his face.
'No, no... 'm fine,' he murmurs. His thumb somehow ends up on Jasper's bottom lip. 'I'm just... resting. What... what were you saying? The, uh... the thing... about the thing...'
To his credit, he tries to keep his eyes open. His hand flops onto his forehead with a thlup. He groans quietly.
Jasper chuckles and gently moves his hand from his forehead to his chest. 'You're so cute when you're half asleep like this.' He doesn't let go of his hand, smoothing each of his fingers out at the knuckles. 'Actually, you're always cute. But especially like this.'
It's probably a good thing there's no one else here to hear this. Charlotte's looking after the shop up above for him on his break, Ray is sleeping off the day's work in his room, and Schwoz is taking his sister back to the airport.
There's no one else here. Henry's probably way too tired to actually take in anything being said to him right now. It's probably like a vivid dream.
Even so, Henry smiles sleepily, his brows furrowing as he murmurs, 'You think I'm cute?'
Jasper nods. 'Of course I do. You're adorable.'
It's not like he doesn't say it at least five times a day. It's still worth it to see his reaction, the way he sort of rolls his head toward Jasper and spreads his fingers between his own.
Jasper closes his fingers to be properly holding his hand. It draws a slight murmur out of Henry, as well as that sleepy smile once again.
'Do you remember when we weren't, you know?' He lightly motions their hands. 'Like this?'
Henry's eyebrows do their little dance again. 'Secret superheroes?'
'No,' Jasper says. 'Like this. You and me. Together.'
'Oh,' Henry murmurs, then shakes his head. 'Not really. It always just felt like...' he takes a deep sigh and shrugs lazily, '...we were more than friends. You know?'
'Yeah, I think I do,' Jasper agrees sincerely. 'You know, I remember practising how to ask you out in the mirror.'
Henry laughs lightly and, finally, his eyes flutter back open to look up at him, waking up a little. 'Seriously?'
'Mhm. When we were... thirteen. Then you started talking about Kid Danger all the time, and I started to think you had a crush on him, so I kind of backed away.'
'Oh.' Henry reaches up and purposefully finds his face this time, stroking his cheek fondly, his gaze half-lidded. 'You're so cute. For the record, I'd definitely pick you over Kid Danger.'
Jasper smiles then stops. 'Wait, but you're Kid Danger.'
'Exactly,' Henry says. 'I'd still pick you, Jasp. Always.'
He's still a little bit confused, but he chalks it down to Henry's exhausted state for his slight incoherence. He kisses his forehead, making him go cross-eyed.
'You're a dork,' he tells him fondly.

This is the...twelfth? Twelfth year now where I've done a new painting of David Bowie to celebrate his birthday. It's 77 years ago now since the day he first arrived from the stars to our planet.
This year I'm paying tribute to the 1997 music video for "I'm Afraid of Americans", which is a very particular particular favorite entry in the canon of Bowie's work.

Main cast profiles :3
Sorry if they are hard to read or are confusing in someway, I'm bad at explaining.
Bea: A con artist who mostly sells garbage for high prices by overselling it. This has led to some conflict in the past and making him a target for those who feel betrayed by him. Often hopping planets by sneaking onto cargo for outgoing ships, he’s managed to mostly avoid injury. He goes by “Bea” but pronounces it like “bay”. Unwillingly he’s come along with Miss Shika and Fria.
Found Mushi a couple of years ago and has cared for him as his son. Mushi is a mushroom-like alien and is actually venomous but Bea wasn’t aware of this fact as he’s never been bitten.
He talks very sparingly of his past and where he came from, partially because he doesn't really remember it and doesn’t want to.
Chez: After the murder of his younger brother, Charlie at first had no idea what to do with his life. Hearing rumors of a mysterious item known as the “Faceless Orb” that could grant any wish they holder made, he made it his goal to retrieve it and bring his brother back to life with a “rebirth”. Left Earth and managed to become a bounty hunter in the hopes of finding clues and to maintain an income. After 13 years he still hasn’t found it, but has desperately been asking for help for a long time. Coming across Miss Shika and company he learned they too were looking for the same thing and so he joined them.
He’s not the most sound of mind so it’s probably best to be on his good side.
Fria: Fria’s mother died suddenly when she was young, leaving her to fend for herself. She took after her mother and very quickly became a high ranking royal guard for the royalty of Oonia. This status allowed her to live on land in a much more lavish lifestyle than before. She is very proud of her accomplishments and takes her job very seriously. Received the job to guard Miss Shika as she traveled the stars and so goes everywhere she does. Even still she’s a bit of a party animal at times and is willing to mess around when offered.
Miss Shika: The ‘Princess’ of Oonia, she currently has one goal in mind: to find a mysterious human who is said to be able to end the ongoing war between the Vin and the Faceless. Shika seems to believe she has. After coming across Bea on Pikol she forced him to come along with her, and intends to find the Faceless orb before escorting him to Oonia.
She is overly interested in Humans, Earth, and Human cultures, often trying to learn as much as she can, though the two humans she’s dragging along don’t seem to know a lot about any of that, much to her surprise. Shika is rather naïve and foolish, but seems to still be very capable of combat.
#my art#Light of the Faceless#Barle Berg#Mushi Berg#Charlie Berg#Fria Vinia#Shika Oonvinia#I'm fully aware of what Fria's name mean lmao that's kinda why I made it that#also the 'Earthling' tag on Charlie's section is because Humans at this point have long been in space#and due to conditions and environments of planets many humans have since adapted or evolved to handle those places and space#but he never left Earth until he was able to and he's a descendent of humans who have only lived on Earth

tw animal cruelty
i know i saw and heard about way too much horrible stuff done to animals when i was way too young, i genuinely think it traumatized me in a way. i quickly stopped engaging with content like that (ppl showing what animal agriculture really is like) very fast bc it was making me suicidal but these things just stick with you. one journalist broke into a dairy farm a few years ago and when he opened a dumpster there was a calf stuffed in there and it lifted its head bc I WAS STILL ALIVE. if you eat dairy you support this. another time i read the report of a veterinary student who had to do a slaughterhouse internship (its mandatory here) and she wasnt even vegetarian back then i think and she described the pigs she saw looking up at her terrified with their innocent eyes and how she later saw these same eyes lying on the floor, cut out of their bodies. how a male cow woke up from the previous stunning while he was hung up from his back hooves and had his throat cut and how he was screaming. this happens a lot, this is not an excpetional case. and this took place in a renommated "organic only" """humane""" slaughterhouse. i stopped reading at that point. that was years ago and it still haunts me. i saw tons of videos of activists stopping trucks with animals in front of slaughterhouses to give these terrified and thirsty beings, who probably were just seeing the sun and smelling fresh air for the first and last time in their lives the only act of kindness they probably ever received by giving them water. they were all so thirsty.
you all love your dogs and cats and refuse to give even the tiniest of shits about other living SENTIENT beings who have their own personalities just like your pet, who like cuddles, who want to run around and play and be free but you just like "your" fucking steak. that's just more important than their lives and it justifies torture. because these animals are not individuals to you but simply pieces of flesh. they don't have names, instead they just have have a number. i push these thoughts away 24/7 bc i wouldnt be able to function otherwise, which is also why i almost never post about it here. even the otherwise kindest ppl you know lose their ethics when it comes to this and you cant make a big deal out of it or youre annoying. the second i properly realized that the meat on my plate was actually the flesh cut out from an animals carcass i went vegetarian straight away despite no one in my family being veg and despite my father and brother mocking me for it. AND I WAS FUCKING SEVEN YEARS OLD. i dont get how there are ppl out there who are 18+ who just never thought about it and/or dont care. i fucking hate this world so much.
#there are billions yes BILLIONS of land animals and TRILLIONS of sea animals tortured and killed every fucking year and every single one of#them is an individual who feels pain and has a unique personality#the extent of suffering is unimaginable and it just. keeps. going.#i literally bawled my eyes out writing this im gonna kill myself now lmao#personal#i volunteered for anonymous for the voiceless when i was 17 a few times but i truly cant engage with this topic anymore im too sensitive#im glad there are ppl out there like earthling ed who are capable of activism#but i dont have much hope#i feel so guilty on behalf of humanity like i'm so so fucking sorry dear animals i cannot help you im so fucking sorry#vegan

Books of 2023: WALKING PRACTICE by Dolki Min. So far this has been fucked up and weird and hilarious, and intermittently heartbreaking and poignant and hugely relatable (not about the eating people or the sex, but, like. about the Body Woes and Gender and Loneliness Of It All). It also does some neat stuff with kerning and text layout and POV, and I’m having a great time!!
#books of 2023#dolki min#walking practice#victoria caudle#it's also a very approachable translations which is. nice. coming off EARTHLINGS lol#don't get me wrong there is a LOT of graphic sex lol#and there's equally a lot of graphic Eating Of People (goes into all the gory details)#and. yknow like. i'm pretty sure all the POV character's alien people died probably. so :(#but if you don't mind the sex or the Eating give it a shot!!#i'm enjoying it a lot so far it's quite a trip!!#the first forty pages i didn't even notice zipping by#the chunk i read yesterday was. a little slower.#i've seen some reviews complaining about the length/pacing which. might be real.#TBD i'll keep y'all posted#books#book photography
