Little man's first encounter with the Na'vi

Something I'm still very undecided about is the name of the indie band of my three young sharks from a retro universe. It's such a simple thing, but it's perplexing me, perhaps because I want something very specific. In this case, a marine element + a cosmic element. 🦈✨

I wish you could all help me with this creative insight! At the moment I have these ideas, do you like them, do any of them sound cool?

🎵 Dreaming Sharks, Dream Divers, Dream Shiver, Astral Dreamers.

These names would be more ideas for songs they would make:

🎶 Pastel Summer, Reef Dreams, Stranded Song, Wreck Echoes, Ocean Wish, Astral Sailors, Stargazing Sharks, Sharks also Dream, Whispering Waves, Emotional Frenzy, The Rainbow After the Storm.

What I do know is that their essence is about chasing dreams with a cosmic touch, magical ocean and optimism. I created these three characters inspired by the triple idea of the tarot: Sun, Moon and Star.

☀️ Sun as ruler of Tiago/Tyson the tiger shark, someone warm, who inspires courage and determination.

🌙 Moon as ruler of Roberto/Rocky the great hammerhead shark, someone mysterious, who inspires feeling and empathy.

⭐ And the Star as ruler of Arielle/Aria the zebra shark, someone dreamy, who inspires imagination and faith.

Someone once told me that imagining a scene with my characters could help me understand the essence that could lead me to the ideal band name. So I remembered what I had imagined:

"Previously, it was just Roberto and Tiago, but they were looking for a voice for their songs. One starry night on the beach, Roberto witnessed a strange shooting star that didn't reflect his image in the sea. Despite this, he was inspired to make a wish.

The event reminded him of his van, which he affectionately calls "Starfall". After going for a drive with Tiago, a synchronicity event led them to Arielle, whom they found singing alone at a local karaoke bar. Since then, Roberto likes to call her "Lucky Star", the one who inspires them to hope in the face of adversity.

And one day, when Roberto and Tiago were undecided about how to name the band, Arie surprised them with an ideal name idea!"

The problem is that I don't know what idea Arie had! haha

When Yn left to pursue her dream she had barely reached the age of twenty-one. The world was fairly new to her and there were so many things to experience and discover.

Ten years later she felt like she had seen a bit of everything. She was aware that there were infinite possibilities of things to see around, but at that point, she wanted to settle for a bit. She was tired of traveling non-stop and all the different languages she had to use. She missed feeling when speaking, and how one word would bring a thousand memories, because speaking in English, German, or Spanish, would be it: just speaking. But speaking in Portuguese would always be communicating exactly everything she felt and wanted others to feel. Speaking in Portuguese was using the word "Saudade" and remembering how it felt to whisper that to her grandmother every weekend as if they were apart for years when in reality they hadn't seen each other for only five days. Speaking in Portuguese was asking for "Cafuné" and getting her hair messed by her mom, who would look down at her lying on the sofa, and caress her shoulders, somehow getting a bit of the weight for her too. Sharing the pain of missing someone they used to see every weekend. Speaking in Portuguese, more than just speaking was going back to the past in a homesick way that would make you feel warm and cared for. It was feeling whole, and right now, Yn felt in pieces.

"What's up, honey?" Lewis asked, sitting beside Yn and handing her a hot cocoa mug.

She grabbed the mug using both hands and shook her head staring at the foam, but they had been together for over three years and Lewis knew exactly when she was lying or dodging a conversation, so he made himself comfortable on the couch and brought Yn closer, kissing the top of her head. The warmth of his body and clothes made her tears finally spill.

"I'm cold," she choked, and he furrowed his brows. "I'm cold and I'm never this cold when I spend Christmas in Brazil. And it's playing Michael Bubblé, but my grandma would always listen to Roberto Carlos," the tears were freely drifting down her face, smudging her makeup and blurring her vision.

"We can spend Christmas there next year, babe, it's n-"

"I wanna spend every day there, Lewis!" She got up, dropping the small blanket that was on top of her legs. She cried harder looking around the empty house. His family would show up any minute, and some friends would probably do too, but her mom and her dad wouldn't. Her childhood friends wouldn't. Nothing that reminded her of home would. "I'm tired of flying nonstop, working from my computer, and having all my coworkers be online colleagues. I'm tired of the taste of the food everywhere we go because none of them tastes like the food my dad would do... I think I saw enough of the world, I wanna settle down, and...I wanna the safety of home." She blurted out.

Lewis listened to everything from his spot and he almost heard his own heartbreaking when she spoke about home as if her hometown was her home and not him. Because to him, she was her home.

“But- I’m not even close to retiring, I still have so much in me,” he mumbled, eyes cast down. He knew they could make it work with her living in a different country, but it would be exhausting. It wouldn't be giving their love the chance it deserved, but rather turning it into heartbreak.

“I know,” she nodded, feeling her heart clench even more. When their eyes met they knew exactly what it meant. They silently agreed to step back.

For Yn, speaking about “Christmas” would never be like whispering "feliz natal" while Roberto Carlos played in the background of the house. And now, for Lewis, speaking about Christmas would always be remembering how heartbreak felt like after you thought you found home.

The Only Time I Feel Safe Part 2

After the bandit incident, you've been more careful during your travels with the group. Just like Vash, you had to keep a low profile wherever you went. Thankfully, learning to be a spy all your life had its perks. You were able to snag some clothes and items to obscure yourself in public. Hell, you even adjusted your voice to different pitches thanks to your training. On your visit to the next city, you insisted to the group that you would make it up to them by getting a hotel for them to stay the night.

"Listen Y/n, you don't have to," Meryl looked at you at through her rear view mirror.

"I know, but I want to. Just give me until sunrise to get you money for a hotel," you pleaded.

"Look, newbie just let 'em. I doubt you can change their mind," Roberto butted in.

Meryl sighed as she looked at the endless sand again.

"Fine, but just be careful. At least have Vash or Wolfwood accompany you," she gave in. You looked at Wolfwood who raised his eyebrow at you. Then you looked at Vash who gave you small smile.

"I can keep a look out for you, while keeping some distance," Vash offered as you felt relieved that he was willing to join you.

"Then it's settled. We'll split up again. Roberto and I will be at a local diner waiting for you. But you need to be back before sunrise," Meryl reminded you as you agreed to her terms.

Once you arrived at the next town, you handed Vash a cloak to keep himself hidden. He was already too well known with the wanted posters you kept seeing in every town. Plus his face and red jacket were a dead giveaway to anyone. Once he got changed, you told him your plan of going around the city for awhile to see if you can find some good info. Before you could walk, you felt nervous looking at the crowd. Your mind kept drifting back to what happened before. Your heart was starting to quicken as you thought about those people who were after your bounty. You couldn't afford to mess up now.

"Hey, everything okay?"

You looked at Vash as he snapped you out of your thoughts. He was looking at you with those blue worried eyes of his.

"Yeah, why do you ask?" you tried to convince him.

"Then why are you so tense?" he pointed to your hands. You didn't realize they were turning white from balling them up into fists. This was one of your bad habits you developed. You unclenched your hands and took a deep breathe.

"Okay, I'm a little nervous," you admitted.

"Hey, don't forget that I'm going to be right with you. I'll protect you no matter what. That's a promise," he reassured you.

"You're right, how could I forget?" you said showing him a small smile. He then offered his hand to you. You looked at him wondering what he was doing.

"I can lead the way, if you want. Just in case we need to avoid certain people or areas," he explained. You looked at his hand and figured he had a point. You hesitantly reached your hand to his. Once your finger tips made contact with his, you gently grabbed his hand. You felt your nerves wash away from the warmth of his hand. Despite the traumatic experiences you had with physical contact before, you felt surprised with how comfortable you were with him being this close.

"Lead the way," you told him.

Once you started walking, you kept your ears peeled within a crowd of people or by any buildings you passed. For the most part, you would hear local baseless gossip or mindless small talk. At some point, Vash noticed some of the military police up ahead and would either lead you another way or hide in a corner until they left. But after a good hour, you finally heard what you were looking for. Some people finally brought up topics about the Windmill Village, Jeneora, or some areas that you recently encountered. You pulled Vash back from walking as he turned around to look at you.

"I found what I'm looking for. I'll be around the corner. I'll whistle for you if I need anything," you told him.

"Okay, I'll hang around here waiting for you. Be careful," he replied as he put his hand on your shoulder. You nodded before walking back to where you came from. You approached the people you heard earlier and talked in a lower pitch.

"I have answers to those questions. Meet me at the corner," you whispered to these people as you passed them by.

The sun was about to set and Meryl was getting impatient. Roberto was having another drink while Wolfwood was smoking his next cigarette. Before Meryl could get up from her seat, the doors of the diner opened. She turned around to see you and Vash. You walked to her table and put down a good amount of double dollars in front of her.

"This should be enough to cover our stay right?" you asked with a small smirk. Meryl looked at you in shock as she went to go book the hotel rooms. You sat down at one of the tables while Vash joined you.

"I can't believe you were able to make that much money off of sharing information," Vash pointed out as you sighed from how tired you were walking in your disguise.

"I know it's not the best way to make a living, but sometimes information is vital. People will pay for valuable information. I know I would," you commented.

"It's true, people will pay what they can to find the whereabouts of people or events. Take the wanted posters for example," Roberto pointed out.

Meryl then came back with the hotel keys in her hands.

"Good news, I got us rooms. Two rooms with double beds and one single room," she explained.

"Finally, I can take off this disguise," you commented.

"I'm staying with Roberto, no buts," Wolfwood said as he didn't look at Vash. Roberto sighed as he followed behind him.

"Guess it's you and me Y/n. Vash, here's your key. Our rooms are pretty close together and on the same floor in case we need anything. The guys are right across from us," Meryl said as she led you to your rooms.

After removing your disguise and taking a nice shower, you felt much better to be in your normal attire. You got comfortable on your bed as Meryl was giddy with joy knowing that she wasn't going to sleep in a dune for once.

"Finally we don't have to sleep in the cold!" she cheered.

"I told you I'd make up for it," you laughed at her.

"You know, you've changed a bit," Meryl pointed out.

"In what way?" you asked while turning to her.

"Well you were very reserved, especially with the no touch rule. But after traveling some time, you've been more open. Especially with you know who," she explained as your eyes widened.

"Come on Y/n, I'm a reporter. You think I don't know who you're more comfortable with?" she added while raising an eyebrow.

"I don't know what you're talking about. Also I'm comfortable with you," you argued.

"Yeah but you never gave me a hug," she reasoned as you felt your face turning red.

"You saw me hug Vash?!" you asked.

"I never said who," she smirked as you buried your face on the pillow. Before you could say anything else, your stomach growled. You didn't realize you haven't eaten since you arrived in town.

"I'm going to eat dinner down at the lobby. Do you want anything?" you asked as you started putting on part of your disguise.

"Nah, I already ate earlier. I'm going to sleep after driving for so long," she replied as she turned around.

Once you reached the lobby you grabbed a plate of food and enjoyed some peace and quiet. You thought about what Meryl said earlier on how you treated Vash over the past. After taking your last bite, you headed back to your room. You were about to enter your room until you realized something. You then walked over to the room across and knocked. Vash opened the door and was surprised to see you.

"Hey Y/n, what's wrong?" he asked

"Hey Vash...can I spend the night with you? I forgot my room key and Meryl is already asleep. And I feel bad for waking her up after she drove us for so long," you asked feeling embarrassed on forgetting a crucial item.

"Oh sure come on in," he replied opening the door for you. You walked in and changed out of your disguise in the bathroom. Thankfully the bed was big enough to fit two of you or else you would have been arguing who gets the bed and who sleeps on the chair.

"Hey, thanks for letting me stay here," you told him as you sat on your side of the bed.

"No problem, thanks for getting us a place to stay in the hotel rooms," he thanked.

"It's the least I can do. But I should be thanking you, my nerves would have gotten the best of me if you weren't there," you admitted shyly.

"I'm always happy to help if you need it," he smiled at you. His smile was so contagious that you couldn't help but smile back at him.

"You know, it's funny how when we first met, you were very closed off. Now here you are being this close without sending me death glares. What changed?" Vash asked.

"Well, to be honest...when I first met you I treated you like how I treated everyone. Growing up, I've been hurt many times physically by my mentor and other people. I kinda saw everyone as a threat, but after seeing how much you did for the people at Jeneora that changed. I've never met someone who is always willing to help others no matter the circumstances. Even when they were hunting you down, you still helped. I think that's when I started slowly trusting you," you started. You noticed Vash was staring at you and felt that you might as well tell him everything. You took a deep breathe before continuing.

"But I think I started getting comfortable with the sand worm incident. That's what separates you from the people who've constantly hurt me. You cared so much that you come back for us. You constantly put your life on the line for us when you could have just ran off any time. Plus, you were always kind towards me. You always asked for permission before making contact with me. Whenever we touch, it always felt nice. You never once hurt me. You’ve kept me protected even when I was aloof towards you, especially with those bandits. What I'm trying to say is, I like being with you. The only time I feel safe is when I'm with you," you admitted as you looked at him. You could feel yourself blushing from what you just told him.

"You feel that way about me?" he asked as you nodded.

"Even though I'm one of the most wanted outlaw in Noman's Land? You've heard what people call me. 'The Humanoid Typhoon,' No matter where I go, danger follows. You can never have a peaceful life," he continued.

"I know what they say, and I still feel safer with you than other people. Also have you forgotten what I grew up with? Your lifestyle is nothing compared to the amount of torture and danger I used to face every day with my mentor," you pointed out. You then grabbed both of his hands and gave them a small squeeze before looking him in the eyes.

"I would gladly travel with you, get cops off your back, and live this lifestyle if it means being by your side. I'm with you until the end Vash," you pointed out and didn’t break eye contact. He needed to know even if it put you in a vulnerable spot. Vash’s lip started quivering as he looked at you fondly with his beautiful eyes.

“Y/n, can I hold you for a bit?” He asked. You smiled and nodded as you felt his prosthetic hand rest on the small of your back, while his human arm held your head. He brought you close to him as your chin landed on his shoulder. That’s when you felt him tightly embrace you. He was so warm that you didn’t want to let go. You hugged him back as he began to talk.

“Thank you Y/n, that’s the sweetest thing someone’s ever told me. Thank you for always being there for me. I promise to keep you safe no matter where we go. I want to be there for you the same way you've been there for me after the Jeneora incident," he told you.

"Of course, I'll always be there for you if you let me. I'm glad we met," you told him as you felt him nuzzle your neck.

"Hey Y/n? Can I do something else with you?" he asked.

"You don't have to ask for permission anymore to touch me Vash. You're the only exception," you reassured. You knew he wouldn't hurt you and you felt more than comfortable with him at this point. You then felt him look at your face as he smiled at you. He then leaned forward and placed a soft kiss on your forehead. You immediately turned red as that caught you off guard.

"You kissed me?" you asked.

"Sorry was that too much?" he asked looking concerned. You then grabbed his face gently and placed a small kiss on his lips. You heard a sharp inhale, but soon he relaxed as you smiled into it.

"No, that just means I can kiss you as much as I want now," you smiled more as your cheeks were pink. Vash's eyes widened as he pulled you to his side of the bed for another hug as he started giving you butterfly kisses all over your face.

"I'm happy you forgot your room key so we could spend the night together," he told you as you laughed.

"Yeah, next time we stay at a hotel I'll gladly room with you over Meryl," you replied as you gave him another peck on the lips as he nuzzled your neck.

#tristampparty day 3, episode 3: bright light, shine through the darkness

DAY 3 OF @tristampparty!! this episode was the one that hooked me lol, LET'S GOOOOO

the radio dj here is vash's jp seiyuu, masaya onosaka!! the voice of the humanoid typhoon talking about an approaching storm... but it's knives who's the storm...

also i LOVE how knives just saunters slowly towards the city. we barely know anything about him but it immediately sets him up as an imposing presence.

once again roberto is quick on the uptake. like he not only knows exactly who's responsible for all this but he's got him fuckin PROFILED. truly a senior reporter.

also is it just me or is eg the mine the most forgettable gung-ho gun. i keep calling him MC Bomber (<- that's an ace attorney reference)

he just prepared this ahead of time i guess...? for dramatic effect i guess??? and it happened to be in the right spot, where everyone was watching??? this is what the ghg's budget goes to???

the plants are pretty goddamn resilient, aren't they? like obviously it would be a bad idea to contain them in glass that could easily break, but this poor plant has been through so much today, and there isn't so much as a crack.

i love how roberto puts his whole pussy into meryl's plan. he's always chiding her for her reckless behavior but he goes all in on this.

this scene reminds me of that one scene... yknow the one where the guy is like, "this guy killed my daughter" and vash is like, "don't kill him!" and... oh, it was the scene after vash sings his total slaughter song!! yeah!!

did knives actually not know he was coming or is he being sarcastic LOL. also because he says "good timing" like did he not expect them to be there?! why did they all arrive at different times. are the ghg just that disorganized.

also i'm so concerned for rosa in these episodes LOL she's getting tossed around so much while pregnant... is the baby okay?!?!

So I watched all of the 98 show in less than 24 hours and adored it so I went into Stampede cautious and yknow I liked it just a tiny bit (as I am writing this I am on my 4th rewatch, I watched it for the first time 3 days ago, I adore it). And in the 1998 version the situation is much more ambigous cause Vash is talking to the "kid" but he hasn't turned back at all yet and Wolfwood shoots

so it's more unclear who is right in that situation while in this you can see Rolo is sorta just frozen there and thinking so you're inclined to Vash's side more

The group had encountered an unsavory group of bandits in what was a ghost town. They were dead set on showing little mercy to everyone, thus a gunfight ensued. Vash was able to get Meryl and Roberto to safety, so that left you to the undertaker. His attention left you for a moment to peer out from behind the safety of the building he threw himself in, eyes taking note of how many enemies he could visibly see.

Vash frowned as he sat in between you and Nicholas. You had your arms folded and eyes closed while the undertaker simply stared out the window. Everyone could feel the tension, despite the event that caused it having passed. "You can't ignore each other forever."

"I wouldn't be ignoring he whose name shall not be said if he wasn't a drama queen," you said. Wolfwood exhaled through his nose and grumbled. "It wasn't even that big of a deal."

The raven-haired man clicked his tongue in annoyance as he continued to stare out the backseat window. "You may not think it was, but Wolfwood doesn't see it that way," Vash said. You sighed and opened your eyes to look at the blond.

"It was an accident, I swear," you told him, "it's not my fault he got in my way." Your eyes left Vash as Wolfwood turned and placed his attention on you, causing you to avert your gaze.

"Accident?" He questioned. "An accident and it was my fault?" You only let out a sigh as you refused to look at him. "You almost shot me."

"Keyword being almost, Wolfy, almost."

The man inhaled through his nose as he grumbled some more. He hated it when you called him that, but he would also be lying if he said he didn't like the little nickname. "If you weren't so careless--"

"If you didn't jump in front of me--"

"I was trying to move you from the line of fire."

Vash softly sighed as he leaned his head back, allowing the two of you to see one another. You glared at Nicholas and he mimicked the expression, yet soon frowned and turned away from you. "I don't need the help."

"Fine," he said, not making eye contact with you, "next time I won't pull you to safety."

"Good," you replied, "maybe then I won't accidentally shoot you and you won't act so dramatic about it."

Wolfwood glanced at you, brows furrowed as his lips formed a tight line. You knew how to push his buttons, but he secretly enjoyed it. "You're so stubborn." But adorable. "Can't even muster up an apology." Not that he could ever be truly angry with you.

"Fine, I'm sorry," you told him. He cocked a brow at you. "I'm sorry you acted like such an idiot and got in the way of my shot."

He huffed and gave his eyes a small roll. "I'll take what I can get." His lips curled into a soft smile as he turned his gaze back out the window. "Even if it is a half-assed apology, like your shooting."

"Excuse me?" You whipped your head around and raised a brow at him, watching as he chuckled softly. "My shooting is just fine. At least I don't carry around such a big gun. I suppose you're compensating for something, aren't you, Wolfy?"

Nicholas looked at your sneering face and frowned. "I can tell you that I'm not, but if you want proof--"

"Okay, we believe you," Vash cut in, chuckling rather awkwardly. He then glanced at you before doing the same to the man beside him. "You're both talking to one another, so it's all water under the bridge, right?"

"As soon as I get a better apology," Nicholas said, lips curling into a slight smirk.

"Not going to happen, Wolfy," you told him, your lips mimicking the same little smirk on his face.

nico's job is so funny because to keep vash safe he has to get into mega epic fights, but also remind that idiot to eat and take care of wounds. again, vashwood duo feels more like the original now, after the sandsteamer. I think nico actualy started caring about vash since he saved the orphanage, it's great to see him conflicted with his mission

also policemen from ep 1 and the guy who shot vash are like... second best side characters in stampede and this is not a compliment. the best ones are nomads who ate worms btw

oh meryl, she's gonna girlboss so hard now... woe to all the haters and naysayers, she's getting character development and faces the same conflict as vash and nico thus gaining more narrative significance!! don't get me wrong, manga and 98' anime meryl was a crucial character, but she's getting much more freedom in stampede to develop and get into action

the moment where she gets up during wolfwood voiceover is when we start to see the "iron lady" and I'm so here for it! now we just have to wait for her designated therapy dog girlfriend to appear and when I can be at peace

Okay, here are my thoughts.

I do not think MC or Marshall will appear in the postcards going back to the villa. I think it's going to be just as much of a surprise for them when we walk back in as when Marshall does. HOWEVER, it could be interesting to see what Ozzy does if they show Marshall but not MC. Like he would know for sure that Marshall's going to be cracking on with Grace, just to spite him. So he's probably going to end up doing something drastic to compensate. But for MC, I think it's way too dramatic to have the look on your LI's face when you walk back into the villa. Like {LI}'s jaw drops when he sees you "MC?!?! You're here?!?!" Suddenly, a hunk of a woman emerges from behind him. [End of episode, wait a week to find out anything else]. NO I'm just kidding but they're definitely doing that.

All of them. No joke. I think every single one of the girls will switch. I feel like none of them have any reason not to. -- Grace obviously likes Ozzy, but they're basically done. He's broken up with her. His hot twin brother is in the villa, so I think she'll definitely lean towards him, but if MC wants Marshall, I think Hamish might be coded for her. -- Bella/Chloe's dialogue says that twisting is the safer option (She says if you want to be with her, you'll have to twist to stay in the villa). -- The only wildcard for me is Amelia. Uhhh general observations first. Animation in this episode was very cool as always. Background music was noticeable, but felt intentional in that.

On the symbolic stuff this episode, idk if I have enough knowledge to really speak to any of it? Bluesummer's emotions shtick seems like a personal rather than organizational thing, for one. I think Michael is an archangel, and other media I've seen them in has had them either as an authority figure or as like a high-ranking fighter. Those portrayals were also definitely taking a lot of liberties, so that further muddies the water.

No idea if "child of blessing" has symbolic meaning, but it kind of reminds me of Rollo from last episode? In the sense that they kind of undergo the same thing and also that results in a 'blessing' they don't get to experience/enjoy, potentially through their doom or demise.

I feel like I don't really have a lot to speculate on in this episode, particularly in comparison to the last. I'm surprised that Wolfwood is getting this much focus so early, let alone a two-parter mostly about him. With the reappearance of the neon desert raiders, I was expecting Meryl and Roberto to also return, but I could be wrong or it could be the next episode lol.

I don't want to get caught up in evaluating whether the old show is better than the new show, but I've been thinking lately about how wildly different the Trigun animes are.

The new show characterizes everyone very differently than the old one did. In the old version, Vash has this facade that he's carrying, a jokester silly man act to hide how fucked up things have been for him and how sad he really is. He also gets the chance to save some people now and then, and that's important, because it's what keeps him holding on. If he never saved anyone, the despair would be overwhelming and he might stop trying.

In the newer show, it's all out in the open. He starts as a sad boy, and he doesn't really save anyone. Some people survive, but it's not the same thing, there's little or no catharsis for his character. His experience is so bleak and his sorrow so obvious that I found it jarring when he was silly.

Meryl is different too. In the old version, she's a badass who has a shit ton of derringer pistols in her cloak because she knows the world is dangerous. She's savvy and prepared for anyone and everyone to try to fuck her over. She literally lives in a world so dangerous that following Vash the stampede to keep her job is worth it to her, and she keeps Vash at arms length for a long time because of all that.

In the new version she's basically Lois Lane. Other people fight and die for her as she naively follows Vash because she...thinks he's newsworthy? I found it hard to understand her motivation. She's also no longer the leader or the senior in her coworking relationship.

And then there's Milly from the old version. I loved her simply on big girl rules, so I'm definitely biased, but that said, she also brought an important humanity to the team. Milly was there to remind you that even though the world of the story is mean and desperate, there are still nice people who can treat others kindly. Talk softly, carry a big gun.

So how does Roberto De Niro (yeah, they really named him after the actor) stand up to Milly? He's mostly looking out for himself, but I guess he has fatherly feelings for Meryl, or he wouldn't keep shlupping along with her. I don't know, I found him and his motivations mysterious and eye-rolling. Is he a hard ass that is only doing a job, or someone who actually cares about all this?

But it's not just the characters, I'd argue the very plot is characterized differently. The first anime is all about characterization and spends a lot of time with the characters before getting to the broody sci-fi stuff, which only happens toward the very end. A lot of people who watched it when it came out won't even remember the darker sci-fi stuff because it was aired on old school tv and they just missed an episode here or there.

The new one is almost entirely concerned with the darker sci-fi plot, which is really interesting, but their characterization suffers for it. The action scenes are more impressive, but perhaps less fun. There isn't a lot of mystery to Vash's past in the newer version, but it definitely does a better job of telling the sci-fi part of the story than the first one did.

I haven't read the manga, this is just what I got from watching both animes recently. I find I like them both for different reasons, but it does make me want to read the manga to see how each compares to the original concept. It's easy to get tied down to the first way you meet a fictional character, but it's important to remember that they aren't real people and they change based on who is writing them. If I say I like Batman, am I talking about Adam West's version or Frank Miller's?

Roberto had to jump a bit

He was sure a little bit of whiskey dripped onto his shirt. He had been taking a sip from his flask from the last revelation the group had come across. Perhaps another experiment commissioned by the Eye of Michael.

He looked over his shoulder and sure enough, Livio was there leaning against a pillar.

He let out a chuckle. "Merry alright," he said, wryly. He was not sure what to say it had been a long journey towards July, and with each step they took the party grew tenser. Especially, the other two men. They seemed to know what was in July. Something big would happen the old man was sure about it.

He replaced the cap on his flask and pocketed it.

"They're well," he said, a little louder. "Tense as we move closer to July." He nodded in agreement. It had been a while since Livio checked on them. Each time the assassin made sure to report there had been some attempts on the group's lives, specifically Vash's. Roberto and Meryl had grown used to the chaos but were able to stay out of sight.

Each time Meryl tried to shout or state her concern towards the pacifist and Undertaker, Roberto had to remind her they were just observing. Nothing more. It had been the usual song and dance, but he was also growing used to and fond of the pacifist and Undertaker himself. Not to Meryl's degree, but enough to also show concern for their safety.

"What about you, Livio? How have you been?" he asked.

Livio was good at what he did. Quiet and never heard, a cat on the prowl in a sea of howling wolves. Silent like the reaper most of his targets met. He didn't seem phase when he accidently spooked the old man.

He had a knack of being too-quiet when he wasn't trying to be mysterious. After all in this little group of trouble-makers, the old man was the soul person he made the effort to let know of his presence. Thankfully so far, the group was none the wiser that they were being shadowed by the silver haired assassin and thanks to Roberto, he was keeping it that way.

He waited for the Reporter to get his baring before nodding in greeting and listening to what he had to say. It brought him some relief they were fine atleast for the moment. July was a few days away now and hearing they grew tenser with each step caused the Eye member to squint knowingly but he said nothing in return besides a slow nod.

"Good. I'm glad to hear.:"

"As for myself, I'm fine. I've cleared your paths for the day ahead. You lot shouldn't have a problem passing through the valley." Topaz eyes would flicker away then. "The closer we get the less likely I will be able to talk to you as I do now. July isn't somewhere you want to be and especially with the likes of me on your tail." "My headquarters lies in the center of the city, but our gaze is everywhere even now I am weary...take heed and try to stay close to eachother.''

"When things go bad...and they will. I want you and that girl to skip town. This isn't your fight.''

Meryl looks up at the one who's speaking to her, a scowl on her face. Daniel. Or Danny as the others call him.

She just calls him Daniel, but whenever she says his name, it's without any camaraderie or warmth. He's teased her since the beginning of this expedition, the others doing nothing to intervene as they believe it's all harmless fun.

Being sent so far from base, or any semblance of a commune at all, can be quite taxing, as they had been reminded time and time again over the Bernardelli news feed. Meryl truly wonders how there's any signal out here that can catch said station without dissolving into pure static. It's really not her department, of course.

Roberto is in charge of communications, making sure that their equipment is functional and operational in such extreme circumstances. He calls her Newbie and it grates on her nerves as much as Daniel's teasing, but at least Roberto is honest.

"It'll do fine," she snaps and she can tell that Daniel has got a retort at the ready.

"Why'd they send a journalist out here is beyond me," he says with an upturn of his upper lip. And there it is.

"The Bernardelli's wish for transparency concerning this expedition and want the public to know what is going on considering this location, as far as it may be from any human settlement, remains a mystery. You could even say, given my role in this expedition, that I'm the eyes and ears and mouth of this group—it's my job to report back any findings while out here. So, to sum up, this is why they sent a journalist."

She can hear snickering behind them, and when she looks beyond Daniel, she can see the rest of their team trying to hold in their laughter but failing miserably. Meryl thinks she catches a smirk on Roberto's lips.

She just knew that Daniel would find a way to get back at her. Even if this was all purely coincidental, just some fluke, it makes her feel a little better placing the blame on him. She never liked him to begin with and the feeling has always seemed mutual.

"Very funny, Daniel!" Her voice echoes throughout the ice-covered cave, but there's a sharpness to it as her voice bounces off the walls before disappearing further and further into the depths. There's no response back and Meryl feels unsettled with each step she takes.

She thinks about retracing her steps, thinks she can remember where they came from, but something stops her dead in her tracks. A sharp gasp leaves her as she raises her camera and starts clicking away, pressing the button and rewinding the film after each click.

Meryl had not noticed them before, she'd been too panicked to even have a proper look, but once she saw the organic markings from within the ice, markings that were etched with such precision upon the rock formation underneath, she knew she had found what the others had missed.

"They're real...," her voice is but a breath, air leaving her lips with each word spoken as she takes a step closer to one of the ice pillars so she can get a better look.

From the corner of her eye, she notices...something.

Maybe a trick of the light, since the cave isn't completely enclosed, and whatever light from the dual suns overhead has managed to filter its way into here, but it moves with purpose as opposed to anything gradual. When she turns, it disappears. And when she looks back at the markings, she can see it from the corner of her eye again.

It toys with her, like whoever, or whatever, this light belongs to knows she's there. It senses her presence.

#tristampparty day 6, episode 6: once upon a time in hopeland

THE HALFWAY POINT OF @tristampparty BABY!!! this is another episode i've watched multiple times on its own so... LET'S GOOOOO

and we start right out the gate with

"disposal," though... we know all about the last run, but what else does disposal entail. like what do they do with the. um. the corpse? and the word "disposal"... yeesh...

so they say, even though it's obvious bullshit. but i do wonder. conrad is in charge of july, EoM's base is in july, etc etc... but how many people actually know what's going on? who does "the july government" consist of besides conrad? what about the civilians living in the city? EoM's cover is flimsy at best, they're suspicious as hell, so how deep and how far does the propaganda machine reach that this can just... keep going on?

all this planet has is radio and newspapers, no TV, no internet, and everyone is struggling just to survive... we saw just last ep how EoM had a grip on one village to the point where it was normalized to sacrifice children... just how good are they at controlling information? jeez. roberto and meryl's job as reporters is more important than ever.

we see that part of wolfwood's designated role is to go after deserters and traitors, so that's another way of controlling information, but. he's just one guy. so they probably have more assassins than just him. maybe the rest of the ghg that we haven't seen yet? there's livio, too, but... how long has he been with EoM at this point? the timeline's so unclear on this, i don't know... we know it took "months" between wolfwood being taken by them and his escape attempt + livio(/razlo) joining, but we don't know how long ago that was either... presumably it would also take "months" for the experiments to be done on livio, or maybe even less time? uhhhhh (steam comes out of my ears from thinking too hard)

......i'm less than 3 minutes into the episode. let's continue.

no idea why the orphanage would be highlighted on the map except for foreshadowing purposes, but it looks like the steamer stops at... uh... *squints* taradiddlescoast... deucedump?!... orange bazoo... who tf is naming these places?!

we already know that the sandsteamer route passes by the orphanage. so i like that there's a sandsteamer visible in the distance. very nice subtle attention to detail here

i feel like people are always quick to point out that livio and wolfwood being siblings is specific to stampede only but i DON'T care, this is my FAVORITE interpretation of their relationship, i really love it so much and think it enhances the narrative and nicely contrasts the relationship between vash and knives. orange was SO big brained for this and i'm not kidding. they're brothers in the manga too, to me.

the dub line here is "stop, livio! he's not who hurt you!" which just tears me into a million pieces, thanks!

...if i remember correctly... the "great sand ocean" is called as such because things just sink into it, right? (hmm... wonder how many crashed ships sank into the sand ocean...) hence the boat-like vehicles that are used to cross it. as we can see, the bad lads gang uses what look like windsurfers. and yet wheeled vehicles seem to fare just fine...?!

we never see what the test is. huh... i'm reminded of the promised neverland all of a sudden

nicholas gets selected and the bell rings... can i point something out? the bell's presence in scenes... what the bell represents... it has the EoM logo on it. well, so does the building. but notably, we see the bell in the scene with livio and wolfwood on the roof at night and also in the scene of them cuddling which i posted above. they're bonding and they love each other but the eye of michael is quite literally looming over them... and over the orphanage as a whole...

i've already talked about this in my bookclub posts but i want to talk about the orphanage's relationship with EoM again. it's literally run by them... there's NO cover story here, they're CLEARLY suspicious as hell. in the manga, chapel came by himself to pick wolfwood up and the cover story was that they would be repairing churches, right? and everyone genuinely believed he was going off to live a better life. here it's just. a bunch of guys in suits and masks. obviously suspicious. they run the place, so i guess there's no need for a cover story...? but iirc in the manga EoM was also using the orphanage as a "source" for soldiers, right? like i think chapel says something like that, doesn't he? am i misremembering?

i have so many questions. there's no confetti. what does that mean. this is a lot more lowkey than wolfwood's departure in the manga. no cheering, no invitation to come back/saying this is always his home, just... polite waves. and melanie looks... unhappy. how much does she know? how much of a choice does she have here? ...huh. i'm reminded of the promised neverland again.

what does this mean for... y'know. The Scene. like. the confetti is important. the kids loving nicholas so much and cheering while saying goodbye is important. why did orange take those out what are they planning what does it MEAN!!!!

wolfwood is "test subject HL1-06" and i have no idea what that means and we can't determine from this how many kids came before him either.

see this gets the gears turning in my head regarding the timeline again. legato says this, and we see some flashforwards (i guess in this context that's what they are) to wolfwood killing people, including the guy from the beginning of this episode and monev from the last episode... (over which legato calls him a loser, lol?! even though that's very much not the reason why wolfwood killed him, and we know it) so how long was wolfwood working for EoM before he was given the job to "babysit" vash?

i already talked about this in one of my bookclub posts but there's the change in livio's motivations, too... he's chasing after wolfwood... as opposed to (razlo) wanting to be needed... what does it mean. man, i really hope orange doesn't do razlo dirty whenever he shows up for real.

THIS CLEARLY ISN'T STRINGS. WHY IS LEGATO'S POWER DIFFERENT IN EVERY VERSION OF TRIGUN I SWEAR TO GOD like it's telekinesis, right?! what does this mean for legato?! and his backstory?! strings are so fitting for him thematically, so i don't know what they could be planning here!!
