I FINISHED SEASON 2 OF WOLF359 AND I HAVE SO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS (or my reaction to Episodes 27-28 of Wolf359).

It's more understandable and accessible for people with learning and intellectual disabilities. Hilbert I hope you're taking notes on this. If you want a redemption arc, you're going to have to earn it.

"Minor deviations" Yeah, they bring that up a LOT. Every other episode: "nothing from the star, just a few minor deviations". I bet they thought I wouldn't notice, but I did. And lo and behold. It just goes to show you kids. Notice something mildly strange? It's 100% a conspiracy or scientific phenomena. Well, not really, I was wrong about the empty man, BUT if you take that approach to everything, one day you are gonna be very right about something. Eventually. And now here comes my sweet sweet payoff.

Episode 28: Who's There?

"That's not me" ... It might be a recording. The radio was from...I think they said the 20's. This is more recent.

I hope the aliens were able to translate his messages correctly. Because Doug uses a LOT of pop culture references, metaphors, exaggeration, and hyperbole. That don't translate well at all.

Mini rant incoming, but um...just to illustrate how bad this could get even from a few simple phrase. For example, the phrase "it's raining cats and dogs" in English or at least among some older people in America, means "it is raining very hard" or "it is raining a lot". Now if you speak, say a difference type of English, you might from context be able to infer what I'm talking about. Like if a British person says they pushed a trolley in the grocery store, I can infer they are talking about a shopping cart, not a street car they drove through a storefront like a maniac. However, someone who doesn't speak English and is not familiar with metaphor can't use context clues as easily and may conclude from my earlier phrase (best case scenario) that it is either literally raining cats and dogs, that I'm an insane person that believe that to be true, or (worse case scenario), if the word "raining" is also used in their language to mean "splattering" or "pouring" in regards to wounds, they might think I'm talking about torturing animals.

Again, showing the importance of the simple and plain language thing I suggested earlier. Not that I'm one to talk, as I, like Doug, greatly enjoy the use of hyperbole and exaggeration, which in this case, is very very bad. I can see why they gave him this character trait now.

Hopefully the aliens draw a good conclusion from it, and Doug hasn't inadvertently doomed the human race.

"We have no voice of our own, so we're borrowing yours. To communicate"

So the aliens mastered AI voice stealing. I suppose in their case it might be necessary. But why can they talk on their own? They seem to have a sense of hearing and can pick up sound waves, so wouldn't they have a way to utilize that for communication? Unless of course they're translating it into something they CAN perceive.

So...these are the listeners?

I don't think they even know what that means! They don't seem to understand that dear is a term of affection or another word for "to", because they don't seem to be adopting either meaning and are just using it as a part of their name.

I hope there is a way to translate "We don't want harm, we just want to go home. We are a peaceful people, expect this one dude name Cutter. He's evil. You can have him. Thank you!"

Final Thoughts:

Actually, you know what, I'm not too concerned about Doug. He still didn't tell us about his family, which means he has to come back and share his secrets. I'm sure he'll be fine.

Although..."deep space"... that is where he was sending the messages...which is where the aliens live...and he's going faster and faster...oh dear...

I think things are about to get a whole lot worse for Doug before they get better. IF they get better.

Many questions about Lovelace. Also starting to wonder about Cutter. Wolf359 is one of the nearest stars to the sun, so on one hand, it makes sense to send a space mission there. On the other hand? How did Cutter know to send a mission there specifically? That's very precise. And for a man who loves space so much, he seems to have a lot of suspicious side projects that have nothing to do with space and doesn't seem inclined to see the stars himself.

Then we have the self-appointed "Dear Listeners" aka "Mr. Wolf" himself, (if there's another name, please let me know). Would bringing them into the star actually save them? Did the boxes that feel into the star actually get to them? Were the boxes designed to teach the aliens about human culture? If so, that seems like an odd and strange way to do it. Do the aliens hate humans, love them, want to experiment on them, it's unclear. Were they influencing human brain waves on purpose? Testing biological warfare? Or was that an unintended consequence? Are they aware that their actions were endangering the humans, or is this nothing for them?

Of course, I also need to know about Blessie. How has he been holding up through all this?

MR question: Has your favorite character from the canon books changed since you first read them? Or conversely, was there a character you weren’t a fan of but now find more interesting, even if it’s just conceptually?

From the flock, my favorite character has remained Iggy, though the reasoning behind it has changed drastically— I first read the books in elementary school, when most of my peers were just starting to become interested in relationships and developing fictional crushes, and I wanted so badly to be allosexual that I plopped Iggy on the "fictional crush pedestal" and declared him my favorite.

Now, I feel that my love towards Iggy is a lot more in line about how he contrasts from the rest of the flock as someone who's calculating instead of reactionary (he jumps to bombs and traps, meaning that his violence is pre-meditated instead of purely in the moment), and the intersection between devotion/familial piety and ruthlessness that he displays in the first couple of books.

That being said, looking at the books in general, my favorite character is now Mike, due to his baffling recurrence throughout the series despite all logic saying he shouldn't keep showing up, and how strong and unapologetic his character intro was. Like, he was one of the few characters in the series that was never thrown by the flock's attitude, and responded with a bluntness that speaks of someone who has given up pretenses of shame. Mike from the subways/Michael Rivers from the Bronx/Grey/Maze/Gr3yHav3n is my certified blorbo and I love him, and I'm declaring all of his nicknames as canon.

As for other characters that I don't remember liking but now rotate in my brain more than I have any right to:

I was not originally a fan of Nudge, because I was not immune to sexism. However, she is so important to me now. The person who can talk, the person who strives to be human, the person who is so lonely in being the only member of the flock to consider herself human. She deserves so much. I love her.

I originally hated all of Fang's gang, and I still have mixed feelings about how they were used in-canon, but at least they acted like they liked each other and enjoyed each other's company, which is better than how the flock treated each other by the time of the late series.

Devin, because he showed up, monologued to an empty room, nearly assassinated Max, and promptly blew up. What a fucking legend. 10/10 best antagonist.

Are you familiar with the concepts of ship and let ship? Don’t yuck my yum? Don’t kinkshame? It’s okay to vehemently disagree with other fandom pairings/scenarios/etc., but posting screen shots that openly shame other users for their preferences is very unkind.

The little screencap was served not against its OP, but to the sentiments that it incurred in the comments. Violent stalking/murdering someone else's boyfriend is acceptable to that person, and that's just rank.

I've posted before that I cannot stand Wyler. Fuck That Monster is my 'vehement disagreement' with that, and I am open to that story... I'm not open towards shitty comments about murdering Joel just because Wednesday was dating him. I would love to read that stalker story for justified comeuppance, but I can't say that's what it'll be about given the comments. The real diff there is that my hope as a reader is for real justice to happen while there are people like the 🗑️ poster who hope, as a reader, for INjustice to happen (since there's a real injustice towards two characters being happy only to have one other be gross, inappropriate, and threatening to their happiness). I would have said that poster was 🗑️ regardless of their chosen ship for having posted comments like that, but so far I haven't seen anyone in the popular ships who post 🗑️ like that...because they don't tend to be 🗑️.

Thick skins only grow in the face of adversity. This fandom is full of the thinnest skins imaginable because somewhere along the line, people got the idea that no one's ideas or comments are open to any criticism; that 'staying in a lane' is the way to drive, even though we're seriously all on the highway to Hell here together (especially in this fandom, let's not sugarcoat that). Why do you think that I don't give a flying 💩 about what anyone says about Wenovan and can defend it (maybe not to everyone's liking since they cannot conceive of AB Wednesday having such strong agency at her age/regurgitate whatever the moral line is atm)? Because I've been through that war before. It's nothing new to me.

if we're being honest folks, I just can't resist an incredibly smart, competent, dangerous, powerful character. I can't resist the charm and the arrogance and the skill. we love an underdog and all that and people don't have to be good at anything to be valuable blah blah blah but I'm a simple man alright. wei wuxian is an incredibly talented, charming, attractive, and intelligent fictional man and I am not above admitting that the whole thing, predictably, has worked on me in real life. he's just good at everything, and I'm madly in love with him. he's perfect. he could kill me. he could kill anyone. he's so smart. he's talented. he's the love of my life. have I mentioned that he's perfect? I am not immune to falling for the dangerous prodigy genius who is unmatched in his skill and could charm the birds from the sky

wei wuxian is so human. oh wei wuxian is So human. I know that I just said he's perfect but he's so human and flawed and complex and I love it. it's so easy to like. hurt and laugh and cry and grieve and be angry along with him. there are so many moments in cql that instigate catharsis because he is a Character I Relate To tm, but I don't think any other character in the story or in media in general makes me feel Angry for them like wei wuxian does. at the peak of the post sunshot campaign arc when everyone is slandering him all the time, I always feel So mad about it, like someone is insulting my friend. because wei wuxian just feels so human. so much of his character works so well As A Character - a moving piece within the machine of a story, there to do its job and represent something meaningful and important, a function of the bigger picture meant to communicate something to the viewer and drive the narrative home. but he is also so human. so delightfully human and lived in and breathing, and it makes it so easy to adore him, because he feels like a real person that you love

I love wei wuxians arrogance honestly, his unfaltering belief in his own abilities and powers and actions. both in a gay hiiiii yiling laozu twirls my hair way and in a just like. it's very satisfying to watch way. him standing up to wen chao, shooting those arrows blindfolded without ever faltering, walking into jinlintai and demanding to know where wen ning is. it fucks. but more than just the confidence I love that he uses it to uplift others, never stepping on anyone's neck to boost his own ego. like moment I fell in love w him moment I Knew he'd be my little guy was when he recited the lan sect rules at the wen indoctrination camp. not only was he being cocky and arrogant and standing up to wen chao, he was also using the opportunity to show solidarity w lan wangji and the lan sect. and not to sound cheesy and lame and cringe but wei wuxians utter sureness in himself, his confidence and lack of shame, inspires me to be a more confident person in real life. I love you little wei wuxian that lives in the back of my head and encourages me when I feel embarrassed or out of place or awkward or silly

I love that, above all else, wei wuxian is kind. he is not always nice or soft or civil, but he is almost always kind, to the people who deserve it. I know that he killed like thousands of ppl in a moment of utter insanity and tortured wen soldiers with such ruthless, unabashed bloodlust that it even freaked jiang cheng out a little bit, but that's sort of the best part of it? that wei wuxian was pushed to do so many unspeakable things and yet still he is fiercely, defiantly kind. always. like it would be so easy for him to turn out bitter and cruel and resentful (like someone else we know 🤨) but he still manages to move through life with nearly ceaseless joy and kindness for others. even after he's resurrected and he wakes up with such exhaustion and discontent and indifference towards life and the world, he is immediately kind to the juniors, to the girl who lost her mind to the fairy statue, like its second nature to him. wei wuxian has suffered and he has killed and he has lost his mind and he has died and still he is kind to the girl people call crazy and her mother, without a second thought

this almost ties into confidence but it is not quite the same thing - I adore the fact wei wuxian is never anybody but himself. he likes to show off sometimes, he can manipulate people into seeing what he wants them to see, and he is, unfortunately, very good at hiding his hurt and his pain. but he is always, unapologetically, wei wuxian. he never falters or changes for anyone, ever. he lies, and he manipulates, and he puts on a show, but he never makes himself anyone he's not in order to get people to like or respect or love him. of course he's keeping the massive secret of his missing core, and you could argue that he's doing that to protect his image, but even at the face of that lie he is still always himself. and wildly he has this crazy aversion to vulnerability and openness, so good at deflecting from his sorrow, but somehow it is never contradictory to the honesty with which he carries himself. I don't know how else to describe it, he is just always, no matter what, wei wuxian, even when he is refusing to let someone see him cry. he just doesn't tuck parts of himself away in exchange for anything, never lets anyone beat him into being someone else. and I think that it is very brave an admirable from a person standpoint, and very unique and engaging from a character standpoint. I find that a lot of "confident" characters in fiction are always secretly insecure or putting up a front or hiding who they really are, that they're hiding some other version of themselves away in order to earn approval, and that can be great too, but I love that wei wuxian is Truly confident, truly sure and earnest and himself. and the little wei wuxian that lives in the back of my head who is only ever himself, encourages me to only ever be myself, too

Physical description:

A chubby fellow in a 1950's style noir trenchcoat and hat, some would even say he looks like he jumped right out of a noir comic book and into reality. He has brown hair and green eyes, a cowboy mustache, and a pointed beard like some kind of comic book supervillain genius.

He often acts confidently and even a bit egotistical when in places he's recognized and famous in, however in newer places he often seems distant and shys away from almost all contact.

Noone knows where his vision is, but they know he has one because of the cold aura that surrounds him.

At night he'll often trade his outfit for one more reminiscent of demons or vampires.

Abilities:

Weapon type: Catalyst

Basic attack-truth: uses his catalyst to shoot a short burst of up to 3 ice shards, can attack in fast succession.

"Truth hurts, especially in bursts"

Charged attack-Bifrost: Alexander quickly makes an ice clone behind the enemy and fires 6 shots, this can increase to 3 clones if charged enough(times: 1 for 1 second, 2 for 2 seconds, and 3 for 2.5 seconds)

"I hate crowds, best company has always been myself"

Elemental ability-ice wall: creates an aura of sheer cold around himself that will damage enemies the more they stay in it, and apply the normal sheer cold to them. Does not affect party.

"My therapist said I put up walls because of trauma, but I couldn't hear them through the wall I had just built"

Elemental burst-a story to be told: Alexander takes out his book and opens to a random page, then randomly summons ice sculptures of one of 8 beings:

"Aster": this summon looks like the flatwoods monster, it surrounds the party in a swirl of ice blades that deal 2X damage as the character for 10 seconds.

"Who needs brawn, when you got brain"

"Ultimate foe": a demonic, pointy being of shadow. Will independently deal 25000 damage to three random foes.

"Meet my penultimate friend"

"Beethoven": a sculpture reminiscent of a ww1 zombie general, calls down a barrage of ice bombs that deal 5000 damage to enemies hit for 7 seconds.

"Good scifi doesn't predict, it prevents"

"Sorrows Joy": an angelic, faceless, robot like humanoid that spawns 25 angel shaped traps that freeze enemies around the character.

"With any luck, you're the only real one I've made"

"Death rider and the magic prince": two statues, one of a mummy like Schneznayan mystic of ancient barbarian times and the other an elven cavalry knight from the myths of mondstadt. The knight gives the party a 45% boost to speed and attack while moving, and the Schneznayan gives +10% damage bonus to elemental skills and +55% damage bonus to Catalyst.

"Feel the wrath of honor long passed"

"Zero point and Lion queen": a knightly man of spiked armor and a golden ottoman warrior woman whose golden chain completely obscures her head. Your enemies become inflicted with pyro and you are surrounded by thorn bushes that deal continuous damage of 1000 for 10 seconds.

"Walk down the way on a moonlit day"

The traveler: a child in a red straight jacket, his binds become undone after 4 seconds at which point all enemies take 10,000 X Alexander's level of damage.

"I uh,wont have to pay any copyrights will I?"

"Giota": a child in pyjamas who looks ready to sleep, this summon is very rare. It fully restores all party members and gives a 200% boost to both defense and damage of your characters.

"This fella's been with me since I was a kid"

"If it is a soldier's duty to escape the confines of a prison, is it not every person's duty to escape reality if even for a moment? A wise man said that, pray that I may one day be like him."

Story

Abandoning a dream

As a kid, Alexander was always put down when he said he wanted to write fiction, "there's no money in it" they all said.

He couldn't get into any art schools without support so he focused his mind elsewhere, a place he could hopefully use his writing to do just as much good: the first newspaper in Schneznaya.

Horrible truth

He didn't start as a trouble maker, but the more he sought out the truth the more he couldn't stand back and watch. He published numerous papers about the Tsarista's wrongdoings and the crimes of the fatui, how they would harass merchants in other nations, the unfair taxes many shipping businesses had to keep quiet about, all the way up to the war crimes the Tsarista had done in direct contradiction to her own laws.

Sadly, not many believed him even with evidence, but some got his message.

Those who fight

One day Alexander was approached by a man who claimed to have formed a resistance against the fatui. Alexander had inspired many people to disrupt the organization, and have even begun working with those outside Schneznaya.

With their help he didn't just publish some crimes, he published them all, he even got information that turned the general public against the fatui even if just a little.

In a way h had achieved his dream of helping others with his writing, even if it wasn't how he wanted.

Stop the presses

When the Tsarista started her big move of taking gnosis, she brought the hammer down on dissent like a boulder on a ten year old's wrist. One day a squad of thirty fatui stormed Alexander's home and business to silence him, and while they shut down his business they couldn't catch him.

Alexander fled into the wastelands of ice and snow and wasn't seen for several weeks.

Deus ex Vodka

One day Alexander showed up in Inazuma, a nation that had been oppressed for some time now and had recently reached it's height, yet no resistance had formed.

That was until Alexander came along.

Alexander published numerous books, spreading them throughout Inazuma. All of them spoke of freedom, of bravery, of rising up to achieve your ambitions.

And with those stories he inspired countless to take up arms, and in turn inspired countless to join the resistance.

And with mere fiction he had brought about hope,

And with mere fiction he shall do it again, in every form, and in every nation.

Vision: cold hearted

While wondering the waste Alexander fell down and looked to the skies.

He did not ask celestia why, he did not grieve or blame that he did not do more, instead Alexander did something he hadn't done in a long time:

He imagined.

And after he imagined he took out his notebook and wrote. In the freezing cold for seventeen days he wrote stories of hope and freedom.

For seventeen days the cold did not so much as cause him to flinch as he wrote tales of bravery.

For seventeen days Alexander Vodka lived how he wanted to live.

And at the end, he lied down to die.

Then a light shown, and when he opened his eyes to look he saw that the storm parted around him, and in his hand was an ice blue gem.

But Alexander was too paranoid from years of abuse from his peers as a child to wear it loosely, and far to extra to just get a lock. So instead Alexander shouted to celestia "if I shall have this Vision for my art, then it shall not kill me no matter what I do!"

He then shoved the vision into his heart and fell down.

Before he could bleed out however, a woman appeared.

"Hey Tsari, how ya doin." Alexander said as blood poured out his mouth.

"You dramatic fool," the Tsarista sighed as she put a hand on his chest, "you have my element, do you know how bad it'll look for me if you die by shoving your vision into your heart?"

"Why do you care? We hate eachother, in case you forgot."

The archon sighed, "you're just rebelling against what you see as unjust, just as I am. To be honest I feel a sort of rivalry with you, so it'd be a shame if you just died. Also," she painfully shoved the vision all the way in, painfully, "if your going to die it better be because of me, got it?"

Then Alexander sat up, and the god was gone. Along with the hole in his chest.

"Rival of a god eh?" He sat up, putting his gat back on his head, "I like the sound of that."

How is this an insert?

Well his story can't be the exact same as mine, so I took my life and goals and made predictions, then fictionalized those predictions and expanded.

His appearance is pretty close to how I'll likely look based on my current appearance, and his dramatic attitude is exactly how I wanna act.

Him being shy in new places with strangers is me exactly as I am now really, however I do believe I'd act confidently if I were famous so he does as well.

Him being Catalyst is because I'm not athletic at all, and I figured a dps Catalyst would be cool. His main ability and resistance/immunity to sheer cold is based on how I wrap up in warm blankets when it's cold, and his ultimate is made up of characters I've made.
