     rey groans, tilting her head back so that it bumps into thor's shoulder. "please," she sighs. her eyelashes flutter with exhaustion and fondness in equal measure. "you're doing MORE than enough. you've done so much already."

for a moment, she simply enjoys the feel of him behind her. thor's arms encircle her waist, solid and strong. the soft light of dawn streams in through the kitchen window, and miraculously, somehow, there are a few BRIEF seconds where all feels peaceful.

then she remembers the threat that looms over them. the war that's sure to kick off in earnest any day now. they are no closer to understanding palpatine's plans than when they first uncovered them. of course the burden on rey's shoulders is HEAVY. so many are counting on her -- not just on hyperkarn, but across the entire galaxy.

"i couldn't possibly let you take on anything else. not that it will stop you." rey knows her husband better than that. for years, it's as if he has the ability to read her mind and do what needs to be done without being ASKED. since this all began he has been so lovely -- somehow even more considerate than before.

thor has taken care of certain duties around the house so that rey's time might be free for meditating or researching. he has allowed her to be with leia as much as she needs, even when it disrupts the schedule they've worked so hard to set her on. he has offered her emotional support in difficult conversations with finn or poe or ben.

he has owned the responsibility of speaking with their allies, of breaking the terrible news, of asking for aid. and he has brainstormed into the night with her, spending hours talking through any number of disturbing POSSIBILITIES. through all of it, even the moments that were surely not her best, he has loved her, still. rey turns to face him, finally, a gentle smile on her lips. she lifts one hand to cup his cheek, a look of love in her eyes. that he even thinks to make this offer to her is so incredible.

"and even though i know those big shoulders could easily carry it ALL... you don't have to. we're going to get through this together. neither of us bears the load alone anymore. you made sure of that for me long ago."
