just found out about the hdg and I definitely don't vibe with it. It almost captures my interest but the hard stance opposition towards exploring the implications that come with a self designated benevolent empire that can solve the inherent problems that come from cultures who are supposedly inferior in some way by nature really like, both rubs me the wrong way and feels like a disservice to the setting itself.

idk just looking at every empire in history it's like, that's literally what they all say and how they justify colonizing others. It's kinda really fucking hard to just take at face value. If imperialist colonizers who just happen to be legimately nicies to the people they colonize is like, ur thing then absolutely jack off to it I'm not here to judge that, just like, own that I guess? But if your argument for them is just that narratively speaking it's just true then my interest in your setting, horny or otherwise just does not exist.

The contradiction of the setting also bothers me, 25-45% of any given species will be domesticated on average but the space between that and rebellion just doesn't seem to be accounted for in the wiki, what is the life of someone not opposed to the empire but also who doesn't volunteer for domestication? How much of their own cultures are retained within the empire? It really seems like the only option for any autonomy in the setting is rebellion but that's also only ever seen as a bad thing.

I just get caught on the whole "affini are imperial" and "affini are benevolent" thing in the axioms section of the hdg wiki. My mixed race ass cannot really look at an invading empire calling itself the good guys without my own personal baggage about it weighing in, ya'feel?

there's a light by your bedside, one that flickers when its loose wire finds itself tangled around the leg of your bed frame. it doesn't happen all the time, but it's always bothered touya, ever since you were kids.

"fuyumi says that when lights go on and off like that they can go boom," he mimics an explosion with his hands, not quite knowing the term for it yet at 5.

(when you recall the memory, you realize that he must have meant a spark, not the flickering of lights.)

it bothers him so much that he figures out a way to fix it by age 10. he uses a small claw clip, a translucent gray plastic you've seen on his mother many times before. he clips the wire to your bed frame that way, keeping it in place.

it's a bandaid solution, because time creates cracks on the plastic, the metal spring falling apart despite being fused at the hinges.

(and again, looking back, you should have noticed that time had left its mark on touya the same way.)

the light flickers again.

"you'll have shitty eyes if you don't change it," he moves the wire aside until it stops. at 15, touya's become jaded. what once was a twinkling set of aquamarine is now a dull pair of teal, staring straight at you as he speaks.

you know it has something to do with his family, but you don't ask unless he talks about it.

(in hindsight, maybe you should've. because when touya runs away from home the following year, you only catch glimpses of him in the next ten years.)

he visits you at 17, taller and dressed darker than what you're used to. his hair is dyed a jet black, a few cuts and bruises scattering the expanse of his arms. he sees that your light is still flickering and fixes it like muscle memory, not once acknowledging the fact that it's been two years since he's seen you last.

"you can stay with me," you offer him, desperately.

he gives you a wry smile, "can i?"

and you know it's not really a question. you'll be heading off to college soon; there's no real place where you can keep him.

when you move into your dorm in the first year of uni, you leave your lamp behind but find that the lights in your shared bathroom flicker just as bad. it makes you think of him, in the lonely hours especially.

you're surprised when you bump into him at age 20, near campus, barely recognizing him at all. for a brief moment, you see the same shock mirrored on his face, but it disappears when you blink, and when you say his name, "touya—"

"dabi," he corrects you.

it's at 22, when you move into your own apartment and bring the same light from your childhood bedroom, that you find your thoughts floating back to him once more.

you offered right before graduating, the last time you saw him―told him you'd be moving into a new place and he could stay with you there. no one would know about it, no one would bother him.

but touya is a flight risk, appearing in and out of your life like the flickering of your bedside light. you outstretch your hand and he bats it away instinctively, withdrawing from you until he feels like you won't bring it up again.

you do though, every time. the next year, the year after that, when you're both 25. you look for him more consciously now, finding that he's always somehow nearby―by the potted flowers on your windowsill that remain alive despite week-long work trips; by paid for cups of coffee in cafes, the doors whooshing shut as you look for who it could possibly be from.

you've known touya for almost all of your life, and giving up on him isn't an option at all. your heart can't take it, the same way you can't bring yourself to fix your bedside light, its flickering an odd source of hope that he might one day be so fed up, he'll have to come and fix it himself.

and then he'd have to stay―to keep the flickering at bay. to keep the light working. one day.

would you mind sharing ur process of how you come up with so many npcs for your units 👉👈 like what you prioritize first about them or some ways you know what traits might fit best to contrast/compliment the main cast w/o overshadowing them too much?

Silly answer: they posses my family and then hold me on the gunpoint until I write them into the story

Serious answer: I mainly go out of the what role I want someone to fill in the story (so no role - no side character necessary), and if that role can be filled by any other main character or already existing npc, I don't bother coming up with anything new.

I'm an adherent to "every word should move the plot" motto in a non-pretentious way, so while creating more ocs is always very fun (regardless of pc/npc character categories in pjsk ocs, they're still all ocs at the end of the day), there are a lot of them I know will never be important or make the cut to appear at all.

More under the cut because I go on a tirade;

In general even just explaining how I do it is kind of difficult because my mind is a dumpster fire of ideas, but I try to follow at least some rules that I think can be handy, so here:

1. Less is more. This is re: how to not make npcs overshadow your main characters. I will say that... it'll likely happen anyway because readers have favourite tropes and clichés that your main characters will not necessarily always click with. It's not a bad thing. But in general in order for readers to like both of the characters the amount you're aiming to, don't reveal too many details or too much backstory for the NPC. Make their story noticeable and important enough, but don't lean into it too much. Readers feel closer to the character because of the detail and nuance they know about them, their history; this level of attachment will probably not happen to npcs that don't reveal much about themselves. Instead it creates some level of freedom to hc and projection lol.

I'm going to say you yourself should probably not get too into writing an npc, but that's a difficult task.

Also sometimes you want readers to get attached and the npcs to outshine the pc (or at least be at the same level) for story purposes. E.g: Nagi Kosaki. Just evaluate what is it you want.

2. Don't oversaturate your cast. In the spirit of previous advice, if a role in the story can be filled with already existing character, don't go ahead and make a new one, especially if they're just gonna leave after two scenes. Forging closer bonds with the characters we're already familiar with > new cool toy. It's also hard to keep up with huge casts of characters (as much as I love them).

3. Don't be afraid to make them too similar. By all means give even your narrative foils mannerisms and things that set them apart, but if your reader can at a glance say "ooh they're narrative foils" and be correct, that's a good thing. Pat the character on the head. Narrative context that's immediately apparent to some category of readers that purposely put effort into looking for that sort of thing is as good a sign as any. You're not being a high-fiction writer here (unless you are and I'm the absolute wrong person to give advice for that), embrace the inherent simplicity of visual novel-like storytelling and relish in it. I've seen people backtrack in making characters because "it's too obvious" and it's kinda sad.

I think this is all I can say in terms ot general advice. I think the need to create NPCs, and their amount, varies too much on the stories for me to go and say "do this when you need to achieve this, but don't do y unless you need to do x". See: WxS story will not be as effective without their huge supporting cast, but we barely even have any npcs for N25 story, usually only 2 per character or so, and they're fine. They don't need a huge supporting cast because of what their story and character development is. Hell, Suzuka's parents literally don't even have personalities because they're not important to her story.

But overall I think the distinction between pc/npc in like, our specific genre, is kind of scary. You should still enjoy the process of making and writing those characters, even if they're a one-off appearance. Treat them as people of their own who just happened to brush shoulders with the Important character on their both ways to growth, I think is the gist of it.

just read shin devilman and i'm about to be so annoying what the FUCK WAS THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (both /pos and /neg but frankly /baffled. what the fuck. anyway thoughts below)

ok so i knew sd (i'm just gonna call it sd) was gonna be weird right. it has TOS style gratuitous funny time travel plots and TOS style homoeroticism it's like. it's mostly there to see ryo and akira hang out in a variety of Historical Events/Settings/Clothes and that's fine. in theory.

chapter one fucking. i. okay i had this foreboding sense right like oh... they're in vienna in 1913 and my first thought was "do i google when hitler was born + is this a "do we kill baby hitler" time travel theoretical??" and i was like no no he would've been older. anyway it's gotta be a coincidence right hitler's not going to be in this. and then we meet this painter. his name is adolf. oh god. he hates jewish people. oh no. but everybody was antisemetic back then it like,, it might be a hitler symptom but this could still be another unaffiliated adolf. oh but his hair's greasy. but he doesn't have the mustache so maybe it cancels out? and as it goes on im like seeing okay his jewish.. art dealer(?) is selling this portrait of his unrequited love to another jewish man and i'm like oh god Please don't do what i think you're going to do with this but also debating whether or not i want this to be hitler because on one hand it would be an awful narrative choice. like politics aside (we'll get there) it's just so goddamn tacky. but on the other hand my fear and increasing belief that go nagai is about to reveal this guy to be THE adolf hitler is building up pressure for a fit of hysterical laughter that i Know is likely coming. god it would be so baffling and so so funny and

i howled. is my point.

like i cannot express to you how fucking mind melting this was to me. for the next couple hours of reading i would just stop and (unprompted) whisper adolf..! adolf hitler...!! to myself like. god what a fucking. just look at it god i don't have to explain LOOK AT THIS SHIT. LOOK AT IT. he animorphs into evil older hitler. it's in Such poor taste and it has Such fucking. dumb implications. we'll get there.

what else. oh i love how nagai doesn't even bother with explaining them adjusting to places most of the time. next chapter BOOM they're in armor on a boat ready for battle. did they just pop out of the dimensional rift like that? in historically appropriate roles/clothing? that doesn't always happen though bc ryo has to get them clothes for versailles next chapter. but we meet them with the cheyenne and it looks like they've been there a while so. idk it's goofy to me. he really said i am not putting all that effort into a drabble.

pivot but i like how dumb yaoi-coded a lot of sd is. i read it for The Scene (the "akira im not into women i um. i. uh" scene) but it still kind of surprised me sometimes. i would be chastising myself for looking at akira diving overboard to save ryo (in full armor) bc it's not Really gay to save his best friend's life right and then that's Immediately followed by this

im fucking losing my mind. kyaa don't take off my armor (baka). what am i doing. what was HE doing writing this. etc.

^^i didn't even gather everything gay i saw because eventually it started feeling about as enlightening as pointing out the gay bits in a ryokira doujin. but those are some highlights i guess. you think they encountered homosexuality in the ancient grecian military? surely not...... unless..............? (also they're bound by fate..... look i know they're almost The most literal iteration of that dynamic but. i know what you are)

i love this bit. zero stakes. "yeah greece kinda ate shit" "lol exactly like--" "SHUT THE FUCK UP AND WALK!!!!!!!!!"

like the joan chapter is largely sweet? i guess? it's supposed to be a happy ending and it's like aww (though. i don't think joan would be like "an angel in the form of a demon... :)" but whatever) and then it's like Yeah Well She WAS Tried For Being A Witch. By Humans. And Was Burned Alive. it's super jarring and then the little bighorn one is like "sometimes they put this in movies!" as if we didn't just see people get massacred???

actually that brings me back to the hitler thing. i'm kinda new to devilman so take this with a grain of salt but part of what i appreciated about How devilman's apocalypse happens is that like.. demons weren't Really in control of humanity's governments or anything. they inspired paranoia that exacerbated preexisting prejudice and selfishness and led people to view the marginalized as the most dangerous For their past oppression, and humanity tore itself apart. and when there was a little compilation of the groups targeted in this, jewish people (specifically in the context of the holocaust) and native americans were both brought up, and i respected that as well. devilman takes place in our world, so discussing these atrocities and ongoing bigotries is like,, relevant and important for what it's trying to do, i feel. it wasn't focused on much, but it stuck out to me, and i think it shows a degree of care about those genocides on the part of nagai.

but i think mentioning them in passing and from a contemporary perspective was a bit safer. you have to be a lot more careful doing historical fiction/time travel misadventures about Very Real atrocities for your Very Unreal Fantasy Romp. and i think that because nagai feels moved by these atrocities and because they're kind of important to devilman and what it's saying about humanity, he felt it would fit to have them in a devilman story that includes time travel (or perhaps he was just inclined due to artistic preferences. either way). i think it also makes sense to explore, in theory. yet any time you insert your fantasy bullshit as a cause for/major factor in An Actual Irl Genocide/Etc you kind of trivialize it. not quite the same, but the closest other example i could think of was how motherfucker supreme jk row.ling took the witch burnings and was like haha that was witches playing pranks on stupid idiot muggles. they were laughing btw. real actual irl people were murdered!! i'm not saying you can never joke about it or mess with it but when you're treating them as serious events And Also going "well actually it was my Dumb Fantasy Thing that caused that" you like.. make it about your dumb fantasy thing instead. the dead are reduced to props.

ch 1's depiction of hitler was of one who already hated jewish people before watching his beloved be burned alive by a jewish(?) demon (a demon masquerading as a jewish person? yeah), but who decided to dedicate his life to jewish extermination Because of that event. and i think the decisions to have him hate jewish people before this AND to not make him a demon are good. this could've been worse. but it still kind of makes the holocaust about demons, y'know? hitler was a person, one influenced by the world in which he lived. countless surrounding factors led to his hatred of jewish people, his attraction to fascism, and his genocidal project. the same is true for everyone involved in perpetuating or tolerating the holocaust. there is no inciting incident, really, for that hatred existing. not for most people. devilman is fundamentally concerned with the nature of group hatred, fear, bigotry, and violence. i would argue they're within its central bundle of inextricable themes (no matter how many adaptations try to, y'know. extricate it). exploring historical instances of that makes sense. but disregarding all of that nuance in favor of "demons tricked him" is in bafflingly poor taste. it's one thing to place demons in a contemporary/future-set story manipulating governments and encouraging violence, but it's another to make the murders of millions of Actual Real Not-Props-For-Your-Spinoff people retroactively caused by demonic influences. because it kind of decreases the agency of the Actual Real murderers. in sd they were tormented, deceived, manipulated by higher forces. in reality they were manipulated, maybe, but by humans. the same is true for the little bighorn chapter. admittedly, i'm less familiar with this event, but it seems... vaguely accurate? to my memory? regardless, taking a massacre that was part of a genocidal effort spanning centuries and going "custer had demons in his heart >:(" is like. revolting to me! and i don't think it's even a like,, metaphorical demon in the hearts of him and his men because we see a very literal demon in marie antoinette's heart the chapter prior. i think it's supposed to be the same thing. symbolic, maybe, but in-story there is in fact a literal demonic possession causing this. as opposed to the propaganda, violence, willful ignorance, greed, callousness, etc which actually caused it. it's like.. anti-relevance. anti-poignance. even if the demons are symbolic of like. humanity's base instincts or whatever i still don't like it. it's stupid and it sucks. and you've got like. tiana getting raped. and because of the context she's a sort of stand-in for everyone who experienced sexual violence as part of this genocide. and it's got the go nagai depictions of sexual violence funk on it (i need to finish devilman lady but Oh Boy) so it's like yucky and that makes the depiction of the genocide broadly yucky because it's again a snapshot of an actual THING that HAPPENED to REAL PEOPLE and it still has the horny funk and. god am i making sense?? whatever it's like. bad to me. i'm not saying you can't like shin devilman or whatever but this part was gross and as hard as the hitler twist made me laugh it was simply not worth it. the toybox approach to historical fiction is Not Good when you start putting in real atrocities and real people, imo. you can't blame hitler's antisemitism on demons bc that primes people to dismiss others as Just Evil it encourages an ignorance that perpetuates genocide and also it's just kind of bad for your story's like.. social commentary. devilman feels like an indictment of humanity but sd almost feels like it's excusing humanity for the same actions bc of the retroactive thing. it's like devilman's demons weren't manipulating humans who independently had a pattern of mass violence for xyz reasons but instead were the secret cause of every cycle of mass violence humans did. it blows!! genuinely open to differing views on the fucking political commentary in shin devilman but idk i just uh. don't think it was good. as someone who's fresh off a first read.

idk. um. i thought shy ryo was interesting.

tbh it doesn't seem like,, in line with my image of ryo from the original series? but i kind of like it when characters are unexpectedly shy, so it's cute to me. i have to wonder when in the process of writing devilman nagai decided ryo was 1) in love with akira and 2) intersex (something ryo if not nagai himself explicitly ties into his interest in men), because the whole thing feels... different than devilman irt that dynamic. i mean, i've been talking about how gay sd is, but i genuinely think a lot of that comes from a desire to depict their relationship with those things in mind, both for the audience and (again, potentially) the author. making ryo more shy in like.. a kind of effeminate way? (idk man idk) feels like the sort of not-quite-retcon that'd stem from that.

actually i kind of liked his relationship with tiana, brief as it was, and what it highlighted about ryo. he blushes when he realizes she's into him, and while he sort of rebuffs her flirting, it's clear that he still cares about her. he's flustered by the situation because it puts him in an awkward spot, not being able to say why he's not interested (and who he's actually interested in). it's a less-discussed and honestly very relatable part of being gay and closeted that was like,, pleasantly surprising to see. hell yeah. and that bit about ryo being unable to kill animals where she says he has a gentle heart is so cute to me

they're friends!! :> and that rules. i think there's a tendency to depict queer characters who don't (and are unable to) reciprocate the feelings of a straight character as being cold to them. and i think it would be really easy to take this gay sort-of-villain in ryo and make him disregard tiana (or women broadly)'s feelings (the gay misogynist trope). but ryo is tiana's friend. her crush isn't going to change that, because the friendship is genuine and comes first, and i like that. and i think in the context of sd we're supposed to read ryo's feelings for akira as ultimately unrequited. he loves akira, and akira loves miki. but that's not why they're not friends in the end. i see ryo/tiana and ryo/akira as parallel relationships. that in a world where ryo confesses and akira doesn't reciprocate, they would still be friends (something especially powerful with a gay character, who're treated as if they perverted a perfectly normal friendship). it's kind of sweet and hopeful, even if you know their relationship's going to end for other reasons soon enough. and he cries when he sees her dead!! i know that feels like a no-brainer to have characters cry when they see people massacred (people who took care of them for weeks) but it's not a given!! and again it shows that he cared for her rather than being like pshuh. women. which again a lot of people inject into their gay guy characters. like i'm glad that one of the adjustments made to ryo's character Was Not That (phew) but instead something that kind of made him more similar to tiana, made him relate to her even though her crush made him feel a bit awkward. like. there's room for exploration there, with him projecting his own awkwardness onto akira and stuff. anyway. yeah i wish she was a more developed character bc she is very much a brown girl there to fall in love with a foreign stranger, highlight elements of his character, and then die horribly but that doesn't mean i don't like what was there, i guess, so much as what wasn't.

okay, i may or may not commit to a Real Reboot (i made the blog but it's not flowing). but here is what i am definitely committing to:

i am no longer going to remove laura from twin peaks (canon, not necessarily town). i WILL write something up that will make this less potentially daunting to newcomers.

i am only going to focus on a few verses. other than the specific 'laura survives her injuries and goes on to Live A Life' timeline --- which is still our main priority --- they will all be canon-centric.

unless i am writing her as carrie page (which i enjoy greatly btw), she will probably still be a teenager. not definitely --- there are some storylines with other canons i still Want Here, and they may or may not end up being easier for the rest of you, too --- but i am wary of straying too far from The Narrative and my actual intentions with this blog. my main priority has always been, like, making laura Accessible To Everybody, but it just doesn't... work. like that.

I think it's a little obvious that bkdk kind of takes a lot of precedent for me... But krbk is literally right on its heels, followed by kacchako. Those are my big three.

Realistically, I'm a shipper of Katsuki with happiness.

What are you willing to RP when it comes to shipping?

Barring my hard nos in my rules... Well, my strong preference lays in exploring the dynamic specific to two characters - I also THRIVE in re-exploring that dynamic in AUs, seeing how it might change in the absence or inclusion of certain factors. I love delving into the complexity of a bond and seeing how it fares against personal trials between two characters. I also love anything resulting in angst. Not at all contradicting my Katsuki + happiness thing...

How large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable?

For Katsuki, anything outside of a year on each side irks me. That's because I focus very heavily on his high school years... In a Pro Hero setting, I'm not too inclined to alter that, even though I actually don't mind age gaps in general - I just ain't fucking with it when it comes to Katsuki.

Are you selective when shipping?

Honestly, yeah, quite a bit. I've admittedly explored multiple romantic dynamics of the same characters with different muns, and I found that I click better with some than others, and the way I envision a bond will be with a specific rendition. Like with Charlie's Kirishima! I have been shipping krbk with Charlie for so long and their Kiri is the only one that I can see writing a ship with. (Nothing against other Kiris ofc! I absolutely adore them - I'm just very attached to what Charlie and I have developed over the past few years on-and-off.)

Then bkdk is a special case in which I have two partners; Bella with her Izuku is deeply rooted in my main verse (and we've written bkdk since 2021, so it's a very fleshed out dynamic), while what I have with Pon's Izuku is specifically an AU that's been invested into with like... A 10+ year timeline attached to it.

Even if my partners aren't super active on Tumblr (which, lol, neither am I sometimes, so I'm not too bothered), I almost always have our ships in my mind. My selectivity is not because I don't want a specific ship - because I'm a multishipper and rarepair connoisseur, where I have recently discovered a small following for RodyBaku - but because I'm very established in some of the ships I have.

Most of the ships I have down are more like, "oh, this would be a cute dynamic", but generally (very quickly) removed from canon context. They're also mostly ones I wouldn't think too hard about unless discussed with someone who is interested in exploring that specifically. Again, I'm just here for Katsuki having happiness.

You can't just ask me that maaaaaaan, I'm such a strong multishipper and therefore can't pick just ONE. Besides, my ships with my friends matter most to me.

In terms of final fantasy, I've only really played XIV and XVI recently. I played X and VIII when I was young. I don't have any interest in KH and don't want to rp it.

I am very disinterested in hazbin hotel / helluva boss. I liked the first season of the latter. But I'm not interested in it at all lol. I'd prefer to blacklist stuff regarding it.

Hello peoples, I'm Space, welcome to my semi-selective multimuse blog! My rules are listed below, PLEASE make sure to read them before interacting! UPDATED: 12/29/2024 (will change with time; check on them periodically if you wish!).

GENERAL:

Age: I am a legal adult (23) and only RP with people whom are 18+ due to dark themes that may be explored directly/indirectly on this blog. I will block you if you have no age in your bio/blog, or if you're underage.

"Personal" Blogs: aka regular blogs on Tumblr. I will block regardless if you like or interact with my content (unless you have RP side blogs and explicitly say so). This blog is a RP blog, which is different than a fan blog/fiction blog. I have nothing against you, RP blogs are simply different and likes and such clutter my notifications.

General: This blog is semi-selective, with a lean towards "mutuals" (we both follow each other) and to those I know. We don't have to be mutuals to write together, but I take them as a sort of 'priority'. I have to right to not accept every RP. I may take some time to follow back and/or reach out, especially if you follow first. I also do have a life outside of this blog (shocker I know /lh) and a part-time job, so I will oftentimes be burnt out or have little motivation to be on here. Please know this. It's not you, it's not your blog, you aren't a bother to me (unless I explicitly tell you). Please reblog memes/gif sets/etc. from the source (or where I reblogged it from) instead of me; I don't practice "reblog karma".

OOC Communication: I consider OOC/"mun" communication to be extremely important, no matter what we are talking about. I check in to see if threads want to be continued, to plot, or just to gush about our interactions. You don't have to be buddy-buddy with me if you don't wish to, but I'm relatively chill. All I ask is that you be upfront and honest with me about things. My Discord is available to mutuals upon request. I do take time to message back, either because I don't have the "spoons" to do so or I genuinely didn't see your message(s).

Turning Asks Into Threads: When it comes to asks I receive in my inbox, I copy the ask into a new post and @ the person who sent it in. I also (sometimes) put in statement that says: "Thank you for the ask! Please ask me before continuing it into a thread." with each posted ask. This is to not overwhelm myself; I would prefer if you ask me first before continuing it into a thread (especially if we have 3+ ongoing threads). I'm absolutely fine with things turning into threads (and encourage it), but I prefer you ask first regardless.

Reply Speed: My reply speed is slow (varying from a few weeks to a few months depending on the muse I have for a character). Most of my posts are set in a queue system, ranging from 2-4 a day. Please note that I may not be writing a muse you wish to write with at any point in time. If it has been 3+ weeks since I've responded, please pop into my IMs or Discord to remind me! Just don't hound me consistently or guilt trip, and we should be good!

Tags: I rely heavily on the tag system (or "tags") to navigate through people's RP blogs. I have tags myself to sort out characters, verses, RP memes, etc., and I expect you to have the same. At the very least, tag my username "spxcemuses" so I can find our threads/interactions easier! I track the tag "spxcemuses". May not interact if you do not have tags.

Drama/Callouts: I do not tolerate OOC/IRL bigotry/drama on this blog and will hard-block if situations come up. I am also anti-callout (unless there's solid evidence, and even then I will make my own decisions/judgement). Do not 'warn' me of people unless they are a legitimate threat. Anon hate will not be tolerated; having anonymous is a privilege, not a right. I will turn it off if things persist and I will block the sender(s) of hate.

ROLEPLAYING/INTERACTIONS:

Muse ≠ Mun: I am not my characters/muses; the majority of them are antagonists or villains with bad and/or questionable morals. I do not support or condone their actions in any way IRL. I will not "water them down" for you. If you have a problem with seeing a certain character on your dash, block the main tag of that character (they'll be "muse; [character name]"). I will not be doing "character tw" tags anymore.

"Bullying" Muses: In addition to "hating" on characters, I don't want people bullying/hating them just because they hate them in real-life. I am not the blog for you to project hate upon. It is ok for muses (once in a while) to bully a character (especially if the character deserves it or has a reason to be bullied), but remind yourselves how serious a muse can be towards yours, especially if mine are powerful or are in powerful positions. In short: my muses will not be your punching bags. It's kind of nitpicky for me tbh, but please understand this.

Triggers: There will be potentially triggering topics written on this blog; I am 18+ for that reason. I will tag things accordingly with "trigger tw" or "trigger mention tw". I also have fandom-based tags you may block. The list is HERE.

"Mains"/"Exclusives": I don't do mains or exclusives. I do have a few people I gravitate towards/want to write with more, yes, but I feel that singling people out feels clique-y to me. May do "affiliates" in the future, heavy maybe.

Writing: With my writing, I write 1-3 (wordy) paragraphs in third person tense, but can go longer if motivation calls for it. You absolutely don't have to "match length", but do not give me one-liners or just dialog if I've written more; it's simply not fair. I will likely drop a thread immediately if this happens (unless it's short from the start).

Post/Thread Formatting: I use X-Kit Rewritten to 'trim' my threads. I no longer use the "Legacy" editor for threads (unless they're super old but even then, I would have trouble using it). I turn all asks I receive into new posts and continue asks that I've sent to others into new posts. I italicize my writing and bold quotations/certain words; if you do not wish for formatting, please tell me and I can make an exception.

Interactions: This blog is crossover friendly (within circumstances), AU friendly, duplicate friendly, and OC friendly! I don't RP in Tumblr IMs nor with personal blogs. My ask box is always open, so feel free to send things in! I prefer to break the ice with ask/RP memes, but anything can be doable!

Dropping Threads: If you at any time want to drop a thread, feel free to but IM/message me first so I can remove it from RPThreadTracker and plan new interactions. I will likely extend the same courtesy to you.

Plotting/Winging It: When it comes to RPs, I usually like to have light plotting/a general sense on where a thread will go; I don’t really “wing” things too often unless they're short interactions.

Relationships (general): Do not assume our muses have a relationship in your canon/etc. (unless they've interacted in canon). If you want pre-established relationships, please talk to me about it first. This is especially for OCs that are written in that universe/show, or self-inserts. My interpretation of a character may not align with how you see them.

Romantic Relationships/"Shipping": I am indeed "multiship", but I am going to be selective with it. It is not a priority for this blog. I would prefer to have several threads explore muses' chemistry rather than insta-shipping. Some muses may not be applicable for romantic shipping either. I am multi-verse multiship, which means if I ship with "Partner A" and "Partner B", they take place in separate verses (unless A/B are ok with being in the same verse otherwise.) Do NOT use me purely for shipping material/force ships with me. I do not ship: incest, adult/minor ships, or with duplicates of the same muse ("self-cest").

Smut/NSFW: I have a sideblog that is very selective and low-activity; I write spicy stuff there. I expect our muses to have interacted at least once before writing NSFW content (unless it's one-night stands). I don't write smut with underaged characters (even if they're aged up) or muns. Okay so first, take this FWIW, which is, you know. Possibly not a lot!

I think of tumblr as kind of like a mosaic where the borders bleed into each other, so fandoms overlap. There are many different tumblrs.

Probably the most important thing to remember (IMO) is that you are 1000% in control of your own experience here, so curate the fuck out of it.

I think it depends a bit on what you're looking to get. If you're looking for community (fandom based, I guess I'm assuming), it's important to interact. Reblog stuff, that's how we get a rich ecosystem. I personally LOVE when people reblog with tag commentary! Don't forget that unless you're a girlie porn bot, there are real people on the other end of these URLs.

Here's how I do it. When I get something stuck in my head, I tend to search out some blogs to follow. My bar to following is exceedingly low but, and this is key, so is my bar to unfollowing (and blocking). I'll mass follow and start weeding out as I go. I also make VERY VERY liberal use of filtering both tags and content (on desktop, click the lil person top right, then settings and scroll down and it will have a list of what you've got filtered and you can add things there - just know that it's very literal. So for example. I've filtered the word 'cum' but that ends up filtering every post that talks about, say, a documentary - there's probably a fix for that? I just haven't bothered to work it out).

Learning to let shitty takes scroll by is an important skill here. I cannot tell you how many things I see that make me roll my eyes. But, I also do not engage with content that I don't like, which is a personal philosophy as I do not have time, like on the cosmic scale, to hate-read and hate-interact. If I see things I really don't like or make me uncomfortable, I unfollow, and maybe block. Filter the word or tag. I'm all about letting people follow their hearts, this isn't about judgement, but it's my job to take care of myself

tumblr search sucks horribly, but you can directly search for things tagged in a specific way. So like, say I want to find posts tagged as "my writing" - I put in this URL (on desktop): https://www.tumblr.com/tagged/my%20writing (you can just type the tag with a space and tumblr will put the space formatting in) and then you can sort by latest or top. I've never had luck clicking on a tag - like I've literally posted something, clicked on a tag and tumblr's been, like, WUT NEVER HEARD OF THAT BRO TOO BAD SO SAD.

At the end of the day, for me anyway, this is about having fun and choosing where I spend my recreational time. Not to say it's not real life, I've learned a ton here and made some of my closest friends in the world here, but also. Fandoms are just that, fandoms. You're in control of your experience here!

For the things that make me happy...

Cats ! I really like them, little fluffballs of pure joy and cuddles. I often go to a cat cafe when I visit my brother and I have the luck to live in an area with lots of cats around. Most recognize me on sight now, since I've been here since the beginning of last summer. I can approach them to pet them without them running away ! My favorites are a pretty black and white cat with golden eyes, who oscillates between slaloming between the posts and perched on the low wall and who is very talkative every time he sees me. The other is an adorable gray and cream tortoiseshell, all small and thin and very cuddly, who likes to slalom between my legs and follow me when I walk.

Cardigans ! It's my favorite type of clothing and every time I thrift, it's what I look at first. It's a cliché librarian's item of clothing for a reason: it keeps you warm when standing still at a reception station, and it can be easily removed to avoid overheating when switching to mobile storage tasks. My favorite at the moment is a big white wool cardigan with a wide knit, with slightly puffed sleeves, 4 large buttons at the front and a little oversized. It's very comfy and I love snuggling up in it when I'm reading on the couch.

Perfumes ! I think my ridiculously long post about which perfumes I own and which one I was obsessed with (which I own now, as an early birthday present to myself) wasn't clear enough. My mother and I both have a fairly sensitive sense of smell, Mom more so than me. She tends to avoid strong smells while, as with sounds, I tend to use smells as a "shield" to deal with social anxiety. And also, the outside world tends to stink quite a bit (public transport and dirty streets, I despise you) so being able to bury my nose in a scarf that smells good helps.

Fanfics ! I enjoy writing them as much as reading them to be honest (looks at my 4k bookmarks) well maaaaybe more reading them lmao. My mental energy can be quite limited and I often don't have what it takes to tackle new novels/series. With fanfics, since I already have prior knowledge of the fandom, character, settings and other things, it's simpler.

Libraries ! Yes, it's because I'm a librarian and I fucking love my job. And also because libraries are one of the best inventions of humanity ? Access to more books than you'll ever own unless you kill a millionaire to get their money ? Activities for all ages on lots of different subjects, to open you up to the culture and the world around you ? As great a place for working as for spending leisure time ? Also it's fucking FREE ???? In this economy ???? Go to your libraries for the love of Gods up there, because there is nothing more tragic than a library that closes because there are no users.

Why do you not use Y/N in your fics?

To put it shortly, Y/N makes me cringe a little. It limits me as a writer because it really makes it too vague on who I want the reader to be in the story. I have no issue with you self inserting yourself into the story- that is the whole point of my fics!

I just feel that a placeholder name works better for my writing, and for the plot overall.

Isn't that an OC, then?

No, I don't think so. I don't create an original character with their own physical description, I just give a name to the reader in the story. You can feel free to insert your own name there, as you would do with Y/N. There's no difference. Your name isn't Y/N, anyways.

And more on that- Y/N is a distinct character in every single fic I've read, because it's fiction. And there's no rules to fanfiction. I would say there's no such thing as a true self insert fic because you were not really there, it didn't really happen, and you are essentially reading about a personality that you probably don't possess. Y/N could be considered an OC too.

Also, most OC fics I have read usually use first or third person. Like "I went to the supermarket to talk to him." or "She went to the supermarket to talk to him." I would think in a x reader fic, since it is meant to insert you into a story, we all use second person, right? Like "You went to the supermarket to talk to him."

That is what I do, so I don't consider it an OC fic. It's not a separate character, it's a self insert for you that just happens to have a name. Truly, this is subjective, but that's how I see it, and no one who writes fanfic follows the same set of rules anyways.

Tag your fic as x OC!

For the reasons mentioned above, no. I choose how to tag my stuff how I want, and I always mention the reader's name in the description. If that bothers you, feel free not to read it.

Do not send me multiple asks or comments, as several people have done so far, telling me how I should tag my fics. I tell you in the description how it is, and if you can't read, then that's on you.

You will be blocked if you keep doubling down on this or trying your best to make it sound like "advice." I know what I'm doing and I don't need your input.

okaaay so i went on create-a-character and i don't see a definition... since this was so long ago i think it's safe to assume this was an older feature 😭 so what i'll do instead is give you run-down on how i fill each category regularly for my characters !!

character name ! - honestly i'm not too consistent with this part because sometimes there's the character has a trait which makes them different to the rest. for example, my most recent bot, bodyguard sylus.

or another one, captain kaizo. he's more easily recognised with the captain honourific, so it makes him stand out more across other bots !!

i add in their profession before their name because it makes them stand out. also, if i have multiple different bots of the same character/idol, it becomes hard to differentiate, so adding a little extra information in the name makes it much easier.

tagline ! - because the limit of this is so short, my tagline format is usually just an emoji which represents the character, maybe a cute little symbol and then a very brief sentence. some examples --

description ! - i'm gna be so real i never do anything for the description its just so much work 💀 the description is there to assist your ai in how the character's personality should be and also the scenario. if you really wanted to, i'd suggest putting your greeting into chatgpt and just asking for a summary HAHAAHAH

greeting ! - this is the first message so there's not really a lot i can help you with because every scenario is unique. however, a format i like to use a lot is a backstory of the relationship between the character and the user, followed by one line of dialogue from the character. this helps the bot interpret how the character should speak and also will set up the chat super well. i used my most popular bot for example [pls i hate this bot sm it was one of my very first ones i have NO IDEA why it almost has 1m chats]

as you can see, it follows the format !!

some tips i can give you are ; - don't speak for the user in the greeting unless you absolutely have to. only have the bot say the character's dialogue - not all bots have to be super duper detailed!! if you look through some of my bots, you'll see that some of them have such a long greeting that it's a few words away from the limit, while others are only short paragraphs. both are fine :) - give a backstory ! help both the bot and the user understand where they are and why they're there.
